I had stripped bolt on the stem of my bicycle where the handlebars are attached. I needed a tap to cut threads in the stem to accept a slightly larger bolt. The kind lady who runs the store found me the correct tap and handle to secure the tap and turn it. Without asking, she instructed me on how to cut the threads, telling me to use WD-40 and cut a little at a time, back it out and spray WD-40 into the bolt hole to clean out the metal shavings. The project was a complete success all because this kind lady didn't just sell me tools she told me how to use them. If you need tools and expertise Tool Mart is the place to go. read more

Had a major emergency at work and needed a blind bearing puller. The one I had wasn't working. Rushed over to TM on my day off. Paul who working the counter was great in showing me different options and even loaning me a set of vernier calipers so I could measure the pieces to see what would work for me. After returning to work with the puller I had the bearings out in under 5 minutes! Thank you again Paul you rock! read more

amazing place but expensive she can get you what ever tools you need................... 8~}

Outstanding store - when you are in need of "that" tool - they probably have it - no waiting for the Amazon truck - just get on down to DC and pick it up. The lady is super knowledgeable and helpful - parking is super easy and its right off of 1280 - no excuses! read more

I like this place. Very knowledgeable and helpful. Good local business worth supporting.

Comprehensive selection of common and uncommon hand and small power tools. There have been multiple occasions when I've needed a specific bit or tool for a basic car repair and all of my local big box and auto parts stores have not carried the part. On every occasion tool mart has had the tool in stock AND has had them at very fair prices. If you use tools regularly, this place should be on your radar, it is the best small tool shop In the area by far. Don't hesitate to ask the folks at the counter where to find something, not only do they know more about the tool you seek than you do, but there is so much inventory in such a small space it can be hard to find it. You will however find plenty of tools you didn't know you needed as you search for what you came for. This is a prime example of how small business can do it better than the big box stores. read more

Never walk in this place and ask the employees if they happen to have a specific item because 3 times already say "oh no sorry" and the third time she said it as I stared at the exact item on a shelf in the store. Something must be wrong with these people cuz they always turn my business away read more

I've been visiting Kathryn and her brother for over 20 years. They have always been able to provide me with basic to specialty tools almost all the time and at a competitive price! Most recent visit was for them to help me put a shop tool cart/tools together which they had ready for pick up the following day!! Highly recommend Tool Mart!!! read more

These guys have a great selection of hard to find specialty tools, they had exactly what I needed.

Incredible selection of power tools, replacement parts, pvc, piping. Drills, electrical supplies, lightning.. you name it. Plus it was just a lot of fun to walk around the store which is overflowing with unique items and discover tools I never knew I needed! Help support the smaller businesses like this, so HD and Lowe's don't just dominate the world. A friendly and knowledgeable older guy (owner) greeted me and was very helpful. Definitely a place to check out if you are in the area and in need of some specific tool (in my case it was some marine electrical wire and heat shrink). Wish I had taken a photo of the inside! Highly recommend! read more

It was necessary for me to do in job and I was looking for set of tools for this. Only in this shop I have received professional advice and purchased the set what I need. Very happy. Recommend the shop. read more

I needed a 1993 General Motor brass elbow fitting for the cooling system that I was unable able to get it from Autozone, Oreilly's, Napa, HomeDepot, Lowe's, Orchard's Supply and online was hard to match with so many different ones but Tool Mart had several, I bought two for both of my 1993 GM cars since there are so hard to find. read more

Special tools and some rare odd tools ... if your a mechanic or just looking for quality tools for your project, Tool Mart is definitely the place. This small business has been here for years and has helped many many mechanics like myself get the tools we need. The knowledgeable store owners can get mostly any hand tool you are looking for. read more

I called this store at exactly 3:49 ï talked with Tina about vinyl gloves. She informed me they had one size fits all nitrile gloves, count50 for 9.99. I told her ï would just order online. But online had only xl sizes. So ï walked in the pouring rain to get said gloves. Got there about 10, 15 minutes no gloves. All XL and nothing for 9.99. I do not understand why someone would misinform you over the phone. Her co workers are worthless; all they could say was the do not know what transpired but they are not allowed to hold stuff. Its first come first serve. All the gloves there was 14.99 gloves in XL and dishwashing gloves. I guess she took them or brought them herself. I think ï will not patronize this store anymore. One minute you have something the next minute you do not, very shitty business. read more

Awesome place, been going there for over 25 years. Always has what you need. If not they will get it. The lady that works there is very knowledgeable. That's right it's a lady. She's been there forever. Special tools for every automotive need. Price is great as well. Back in the day you can even kind of bargain. read more

My visit to O'Reilly ended up with a San Francisco native's recommendation for Tool Mart. I didn't need to look any further than Tool Mart and I'm appreciative to Mike for looping me in. Furthermore, I really appreciated the down-to-business attitude of the employee/owner who worked there yesterday afternoon. You can tell that she was of mechanic quality because it didn't take her long to find the perfect, obscurely-sized Allen wrench socket bit I couldn't find anywhere else. Online, even. Everyone was saying how hard it was to find. Thanks guys, keep it up. Native San Francisco stores like this should be supported in any way possible not just because of their authentic, high-quality, down-to-earth service but because this is what makes San Francisco, well, San Francisco. read more

My favorite tool store. Never let's me down. Good prices and better service. Kathryn is a wealth of knowledge and has saved me lots of money. I own a Scooter repair shop and tools are very important to me. read more

This place is nuts. I don't know if the woman at the counter owns the place, but I think so. Definitely knows more about tools than I do and she knew exactly where everything is in the store without even coming out from behind the counter. Funny thing is: Three little girls were playing Playstation in the corner. I started to ask where a file set was and one of the little girls got up and showed me. Then she said, "Be careful, these are really brittle and break easily. But they work well in tight spaces." What the hell is that all about? Even the 13 year-old girl knows her shit. read more

The BEST tool shop in the city by far. Life saver for me at least three times. If you wrench on bikes or cars, GO HERE. Most importantly they have every socket/wrench/allen/torx size and obscure tool and the people working at the front are human (emphasis HUMAN - nice people) computers who seem to know the complete stock and location in the store and act with millisecond speed. It's places like this that make me realize that not everything should be bought from Wal-Mart or ordered online. Support local businesses like Tool Mart so that our options aren't just Autozone or O'Reilly where the selection of cherry scented chrome bling take up more aisles than actual tools or parts. read more

These guys are the best. Always know what tools I am talking about. Like other people said they almost everything in stock and if they don't, they get it quick. I have never been let done. Let's talk about today. Called Jack at 5:30PM and he doens't have it on the truck, but says he'll call me right back. Call back at 5:45PM and found out they had it at the store. He is delivering it to me tomorrow. Special delivery for just one part. That is customer service. read more

If they don't have what you're looking for, then you are blind. Look harder. Tons of auto repair related tools here. But if you still can't find what you need, then it can be ordered for you and be available within afew days. Excellent customer service here too. Oh the deals to be had! The list of tools I've purchased from here over the years goes on and on......Thanks much guys(and gal)! read more

Updating the 5-star status for 2010! I read the great reviews, and had to see Tool Mart for myself. Not only did they have every obscure thing that I was looking for, but the shopkeeper knew where each item was in the store, like her brain was a database with all 10,000+ items in it. FYI the store is packed floor to ceiling with stuff, so browsing on your own is fun, but not necessarily productive. Most of the things I asked for, she had multiple options. There were other options she could special order. She knew the right questions to ask to find out what I wanted. It was tool heaven. Street parking is metered, but a quarter buys you many minutes (sorry i forget the amount but way better than SF)! I plan to bring all my gearhead friends there! read more

I've been going here to get various tools for years now. I am usually not let down. Once in a while they don't have the tool I need, but They will comb Heaven and Earth to find it! AND!!!!!...They are open on Sundays too! That is PRETTY DAMN OKAY!...and not to bad either! I live in San Jose now, and still make the drive up when it's necessary. Thanks guys! I'll be back... read more

Holy smokes. A life saver when you need a quality but odd-ball tool. Recommended by my mechanic, Cliff at Bay Motor Works. I needed a 12mm hex wrench for a 3/8ths socket. They had one!!! Yes! I love Tool Mart! A friend of mine is an auto mechanic and he knows the owners so he takes me there to get tools. It's alot of fun in there. It's like the Toys R Us of tool shops. They have everything you want if you're a professional or use tools daily. read more

I got the job done that day with tool mart helping my back. Thanks Tool Mart and the lady working there is Hellas cool. read more

I've been dealing with Katherine and her brother Paul for over 35 years. I never warranty tools that I buy from her. About 2 1/2 weeks ago I wanted them to replace a#2 Philips S&k screwdriver I bought about 6 years back. Paul as usual could care less to do anything. He said his sister Katherine would be back from China a week later. I left screwdriver, talked to her on Monday. She said check with her in about a week. Two weeks later, she said she sent it out. I said 2 weeks is long enough, she started yelling at me saying theirs nothing she could do. I suggested let me buy one of the Snap on screwdrivers she had on wall, and pay difference. She snapped no way! I've spent huge amounts over 35 years, but she could care less. I showed her a picture of same screwdriver for $16.00 she ripped $15.00 from cash register, and yelled go away. Pretty sad huh. Do yourself a favor stay away from Tool Mart! Go to Sears, ace hardware, K119. She's typical Chinese, screams when they have to refund 1 dime! read more

The only game in town for specialty automotive tools. The owner is super friendly and helpful. They're open when you need them. I went yesterday (Saturday) and was helped by the owners brother who said he worked weekends only. He was very helpful, friendly, etc. We had a nice conversation regarding the future of small privately owned businesses such as tool Mart which unfortunately are becoming more rare. He gave me the tools I was looking for that that unfortunate place up the street (O'Reilly auto parts) had but in used condition, yes you read that correctly, someone bought and used the tool then returned it. I obviously wasn't going to buy the used tool from O'Reilly auto parts for full price since they didn't want to give me a significant price reduction on a used tool. That being said I was happy to support local small business such as tool Mart. They literally have almost any specialty tool which is great if you really need the tool and can't wait for shipping or whatever. Support local small business, they need us and are a dieing breed. No other place has the same quantity of quality made in USA tools or great friendly customer service as tool Mart. Thank you once again Tool Mart! read more
