I had stripped bolt on the stem of my bicycle where the handlebars are attached. I needed a tap to cut threads in the stem to accept a slightly larger bolt. The kind lady who runs the store found me the correct tap and handle to secure the tap and turn it. Without asking, she instructed me on how to cut the threads, telling me to use WD-40 and cut a little at a time, back it out and spray WD-40 into the bolt hole to clean out the metal shavings. Had a major emergency at work and needed a blind bearing puller. The one I had wasn't working. Rushed over to TM on my day off. Paul who working the counter was great in showing me different options and even loaning me a set of vernier calipers so I could measure the pieces to see what would work for me. Comprehensive selection of common and uncommon hand and small power tools. There have been multiple occasions when I've needed a specific bit or tool for a basic car repair and all of my local big box and auto parts stores have not carried the part. On every occasion tool mart has had the tool in stock AND has had them at very fair prices. If you use tools regularly, this place should be on your radar, it is the best small tool shop In the area by far. Don't hesitate to ask the folks at the counter where to find something, not only do they know more about the tool you seek than you do, but there is so much inventory in such a small space it can be hard to find it. You will however find plenty of tools you didn't know you needed as you search for what you came for. But online had only xl sizes. So ï walked in the pouring rain to get said gloves. Got there about 10, 15 minutes no gloves. All XL and nothing for 9.99. I do not understand why someone would misinform you over the phone. Her co workers are worthless; all they could say was the do not know what transpired but they are not allowed to hold stuff. Its first come first serve. All the gloves there was 14.99 gloves in XL and dishwashing gloves. I guess she took them or brought them herself. I think ï will not patronize this store anymore. Most importantly they have every socket/wrench/allen/torx size and obscure tool and the people working at the front are human (emphasis HUMAN - nice people) computers who seem to know the complete stock and location in the store and act with millisecond speed. Updating the 5-star status for 2010! I read the great reviews, and had to see Tool Mart for myself. Not only did they have every obscure thing that I was looking for, but the shopkeeper knew where each item was in the store, like her brain was a database with all 10,000+ items in it. FYI the store is packed floor to ceiling with stuff, so browsing on your own is fun, but not necessarily productive. Most of the things I asked for, she had multiple options. There were other options she could special order. She knew the right questions to ask to find out what I wanted. It was tool heaven. Street parking is metered, but a quarter buys you many minutes (sorry i forget the amount but way better than SF)! I plan to bring all my gearhead friends there! read more

I've been dealing with Katherine and her brother Paul for over 35 years. I never warranty tools that I buy from her. About 2 1/2 weeks ago I wanted them to replace a#2 Philips S&k screwdriver I bought about 6 years back. Paul as usual could care less to do anything. He said his sister Katherine would be back from China a week later. I left screwdriver, talked to her on Monday. She said check with her in about a week. Two weeks later, she said she sent it out. I said 2 weeks is long enough, she started yelling at me saying theirs nothing she could do. I suggested let me buy one of the Snap on screwdrivers she had on wall, and pay difference. She snapped no way! I've spent huge amounts over 35 years, but she could care less. I showed her a picture of same screwdriver for $16.00 she ripped $15.00 from cash register, and yelled go away. I went yesterday (Saturday) and was helped by the owners brother who said he worked weekends only. He was very helpful, friendly, etc. We had a nice conversation regarding the future of small privately owned businesses such as tool Mart which unfortunately are becoming more rare. He gave me the tools I was looking for that that unfortunate place up the street (O'Reilly auto parts) had but in used condition, yes you read that correctly, someone bought and used the tool then returned it. I obviously wasn't going to buy the used tool from O'Reilly auto parts for full price since they didn't want to give me a significant price reduction on a used tool. That being said I was happy to support local small business such as tool Mart. They literally have almost any specialty tool which is great if you really need the tool and can't wait for shipping or whatever. Support local small business, they need us and are a dieing breed.
