I hardly do a review on a hardware store, but this one is over the top that I need to do it since I worked at Nordstrom for quite a few years and know about customer service. I went to this hardware store because I wasn't able to use my paper gift certificate that I purchase through online and went to the one on 3rd Avenue and Clement which was a lot closer to my house because I do not drive. Even though I asked the sales person in the cashier area and even requested for a manager to help me with this gift certificate but they still couldn't do it. Even though the Noriega store is out of the way. I found the most wonderful person name JP. I even met the store manager today and told him that he should be a All-Star or assistant manager when he is not around. I came in on the weekend and noticed JP wasn't there so I got three gate keys to be done. I went back home and tried the keys and it did not work so the next Saturday I went back again to the store and JP wasn't there. It turned out to be the same guy that did my keys the first time. I told him maybe you need to do a new set of keys and he looked and looked again. He said I don't think there should be a problem. Let me just change a little bit and let's see if it works. I said it loud and maybe I should come tomorrow on Sunday and he said I'm working. Unfortunately, when I went home, it did not work again. OK this is the guy. I don't wanna deal with. I told my daughter I need to go back to Ace again because the keys did not work. Can you drive me during the weekday so that maybe that guy is not working and turns out he wasn't working again. It turned out to be JP working and I was overjoyed , he really look at the keys and actually he made all new keys He gave me a Ziploc,of the bad keys and any ziplock of the new keys so I will know which keys to try out. He went over and beyond and offer the store phone number and told me to call him when I get home to try the keys. If it didn't work, he would give me a refund so I don't have to come back there again to redo the keys. It turned out perfect, that's what you call customer service read more

Yesterday I called to confirm that they had what I needed. Before heading over today I called again to be sure they had not sold out their inventory and was told they had none. I won't detail my mad rush and agonizing hours in search of something that the employee cavalierly told me was out of stock when it was there all along. My girlfriend and I were in the store a week ago, and she went up to one of the staff to ask a question. She politely pointed out that his mask was exposing his nose, he then took it off and said something to the degree of "well, it's all just a hoax anyway, these masks don't help anybody. My g/f has autoimmune and pulmonary issues, and she came back to the store after a pleasant visit a month ago where the staff at that tie helped her out with every question she and I had, all fully masked at the time. This is the friendliest hardware store. I live a 5-minute drive away but only found out about Duke's when I needed to copy a Honda Pilot key. The plastic holding the remote broke and the remote stopped working. Most locksmiths charge $135 to $200 to make a copy, which is too much money for an 13 year old car. I purchased the key online for $10, and searched for stores close by that can cut the Honda key. My key has the remote and chip. I can transfer the chip myself from the broken key and on my car I can program the remote myself using instructions available online for older Hondas, but needed the new key cut. I found Duke's on Yelp. It took several attempts to get the cut perfectly so that it fits correctly in the ignition and will turn. Angel cut the key, and was persistent in working on it until he got it right. I also love the meter parking spaces in front of the store. Yes, it costs a few quarters (or you can use a credit card), but there's parking right out front. Very convenient. They also have propane tanks! Great service, friendly people. I only wished that I found out about them sooner. I just don't normally drive up Noriega. read more

I was shocked to find an Ace Hardware located here. I thought it was a $1 thrift store!!!! I guess I should open up my eyes a bit wider! We needed to make some duplicate keys. They were able to do it for us within 5 minutes! SUPER FAST!!!! They have keys here that have Disney characters, Playboy bunny character, etc. A great way to distinguish between your keys. I thought it was pretty cool. I'm going to have to come back to make more duplicate keys. They have a lot of DIY items/tools that you would find at Home Depot. Let's start by saying we that I didn't have my receipt because I go there frequently. I tried to get a refund for an item that didn't work out and it was unopened. The sales rep was very kind for going through all the trouble. However the MANAGER Mr Hung on the other hand was VERY rude. Dude seriously, I know $1.62 isn't a lot of money, but it's still my money. He made it very obvious that he didn't want to help because I didn't have my receipt. He even asked if I bought the item elsewhere but the packaging clear says ace hardware. My wife found my receipt last minute in her purse and Mr Hung rudely says "Too late" and then takes another 5 minutes to give me a cash refund without the need of a receipt. So basically, they are able to give refund/store credit without giving their customers a hard time but Mr Hung just doesn't want to do it and ultimately wants to give customers a hard time? The other sales reps are incredibly nice and helpful. For a neighborhood hardware store, I'm happy to know they are there to help. Only takes one person to ruin the experience. read more
