Sometimes, those big box superstores just aren't worth the hassle of having to drive there, fight for parking in their narrowly-striped parking lot and trudging all that way in the fog only to find that a helpful hardware man is nowhere to be found inside those cavernous aisles. Enter Duke's Hardware. This seemingly small hardware store tucked in between a phalanx of Chinese restaurants on Noriega will usually have just what you need without having to make that big drive out of town to Daly City or Colma. The aisles are stocked HIGH into the ceiling with tools, light bulbs and other essentials, with a bonus second story alcove with plenty of basic plumbing supplies and tools tucked way in the back. Yes, you do pay a buck or two more per item here vs. the big box stores, but it saves me time and hassle in those busy busy days where you just need to fix something right NOW. PRO TIP: Get here before 9am for easy effortless FREE angle parking right out in front. Accessible by MUNI bus line too right out in front. Verdict: This little hardware store punches well beyond its weight in getting you what you need. Yes, they do keys here too. Friendly folks you will find here right as you come in! read more

My local go-to hardware store. Which is a few blocks away, they have things I need, and the people are friendly. They have the selection that I need for most of my home projects. If they don't have it, they will actually tell you where you can buy that item. Prices are reasonable if you break them down this way for the item I need. Is it worth it to drive to Lowe's or Home Depot, given the time and gas wasted? Whereas locally, I pop in, grab, and go. read more

Friendly atmosphere, fast service & pleasant people to work with. The store is a little deceiving from the front entrance, it looks small however when you enter it's easy to see it's well stocked with everything you might need from a hardware . I needed a battery for my motorcycle clock, sometimes hard to find because of its size, extremely small. Dukes has them! Parking can be a little troublesome but I was lucky enough to park in front of the store. For diy Dukes is very convenient, hopefully you can find what you need, quality products at a reasonable price read more

The staff at Duke's are constantly helpful, knowledgeable and friendly. I can always be guaranteed to find or to be guided to what I need. So wonderful to have a reliable hardware store in the neighborhood and not have to depend on a big box store nightmare. read more

I needed some keys duplicated, and I usually go to a family owned hardware store on Irving St., but remembered how fun parking is there, I had to seek other options. Luckily, I recalled passing by this store. It's only a few minutes away from where I was, I came, found parking right in front and had the coolest people greet me and help me with my needs. This store has the vibe of a neighborhood business, with a friendly staff, a plethora of household items and good prices on duplicated keys. I went by a couple of more times for more keys and to pick up small items for a remodeling project, and each time the service was consistently good. It's stores likes this that make me feel good about supporting the small local stores. For me, it's easily a 4.5. read more

Duke's Hardware - Hardware Stores Near Me - San Francisco, California

had to stop into Dukes Hardware today to get a cane I ordered cut down an inch. Dukes is our go to hardware store here in the Outer Sunset largely because the Staff @ Dukes always goes above and beyond to help us with all of our hardware needs. Dukes is the best hardware store I have used these past many years here in San Francisco. If you need anything from a hardware store I'd highly recommend that you stop in and visit the folks at Dukes. You will not be disappointed. read more

Love this hardware store so much! Cary and Angela we're extremely helpful and kind. They are knowledgeable and feels like the perfect neighborhood hardware shop. Thank you and I'll be back soon! read more

The best neighborhood hardware store ever! Came in needing a car key fob replacement, staff was super helpful and walked me through the options they had. We ended up being able to snap off a tough plastic piece and swap the key into a new case, saving me $200-300. Staff barely wanted to charge me anything, just was super happy to help out a customer. Definitely want to bring more of my business here! read more

Great hardware store with exceptional service. My kitchen sink was leaking last week due to a broken part so I came here for help. I brought the broken pipe with me and the gentleman working there was extremely patient and helped me figure out which parts to get and even cleaned the nasty pipe for me. I was really impressed by the level service and was very thankful for the help as I have zero knowledge of these things. read more

Always excellent service. Much friendlier than the the place on the other side of Sunset. Even though I live closer to that one, I prefer to travel a litttle farther to Duke's. Extensive selection. Everything you want in a neighborhood hardware store. read more

Owners were helpful and pleasant and had just what I needed. PLUS they love dogs, complete with treats!

I hardly do a review on a hardware store, but this one is over the top that I need to do it since I worked at Nordstrom for quite a few years and know about customer service. I went to this hardware store because I wasn't able to use my paper gift certificate that I purchase through online and went to the one on 3rd Avenue and Clement which was a lot closer to my house because I do not drive. Even though I asked the sales person in the cashier area and even requested for a manager to help me with this gift certificate but they still couldn't do it. Even though the Noriega store is out of the way. I found the most wonderful person name JP. I even met the store manager today and told him that he should be a All-Star or assistant manager when he is not around. I came in on the weekend and noticed JP wasn't there so I got three gate keys to be done. I went back home and tried the keys and it did not work so the next Saturday I went back again to the store and JP wasn't there. It turned out to be the same guy that did my keys the first time. I told him maybe you need to do a new set of keys and he looked and looked again. He said I don't think there should be a problem. Let me just change a little bit and let's see if it works. I said it loud and maybe I should come tomorrow on Sunday and he said I'm working. Unfortunately, when I went home, it did not work again. OK this is the guy. I don't wanna deal with. I told my daughter I need to go back to Ace again because the keys did not work. Can you drive me during the weekday so that maybe that guy is not working and turns out he wasn't working again. It turned out to be JP working and I was overjoyed , he really look at the keys and actually he made all new keys He gave me a Ziploc,of the bad keys and any ziplock of the new keys so I will know which keys to try out. He went over and beyond and offer the store phone number and told me to call him when I get home to try the keys. If it didn't work, he would give me a refund so I don't have to come back there again to redo the keys. It turned out perfect, that's what you call customer service read more

The workers here are very helpful. Really good customer service. They will help you find what you are looking for and they offer helpful feedback for what you are trying to find. When I seek good service the first factor for consideration is quality employees. I'm not a regular at Duke's and based upon my experience today can't believe their ratings. Yesterday I called to confirm that they had what I needed. Before heading over today I called again to be sure they had not sold out their inventory and was told they had none. I won't detail my mad rush and agonizing hours in search of something that the employee cavalierly told me was out of stock when it was there all along. A real bummer; getting stuck in crazy crazy traffic, lost with the loss of navigation, and incredible frustration of wasting my valuable time because of one lazy guy who chose poor service as his default. I hope you have better luck should you choose to shop at Dukes's!!! inquire about a pr read more

Do not get keys cut from this place! I asked for 9 copies of my key and the guy filed down my key before making the copies. Now I have 10 useless keys and $25 less. Who does that to the template key?! read more

The store needs to improve on customer service time and first come first serve. Great service from the store clerk. Price is better than the chain store on certain merchandise. read more

My go to place for pretty much anything, with helpful and kind workers. Have been here countless times.

Found what I was looking for so I am happy. Staff was polite and I was in and out quickly.

Came here shopping for paint for my window since it's a neighborhood store and walking distance from my house. Also because of my past positive experiences shopping here. It's a small hardware store that is well organized, fully packed and has everything I ever shop for. Just like before, the staff was friendly, patient, professional, most of all so helpful. It's wonderful to have a store like this in our neighborhood. I walked away a happy customer and ready to tackle the DIY at home! Thank you! read more

Almost 2 years to the date I found myself needing help from a hardware store expert. My first instinct was to return to Duke's for help. Tim helped me this time. My 5-star rating is in tact. If you're looking for an LED light bulb replacement and you can't find the same model number even on the manufacturer's website, come here. At the very least bring the light bulb that burned out. read more

This store always has good service. I went there today to have my car key cut due to the master key was broken. I spoke to the staff JP last week regarding this issue and he was very nice, he said he will try to help me, so, I went there today, he was just as nice in person as on the phone, very friendly, helpful and very knowledgeable. After he cut my key and also walked me to my car to make sure the key is working. what a service! Thanks JP ! read more

My girlfriend and I were in the store a week ago, and she went up to one of the staff to ask a question. She politely pointed out that his mask was exposing his nose, he then took it off and said something to the degree of "well, it's all just a hoax anyway, these masks don't help anybody. I never actually wear it." My g/f has autoimmune and pulmonary issues, and she came back to the store after a pleasant visit a month ago where the staff at that tie helped her out with every question she and I had, all fully masked at the time. Some of you think this pandemic is b.s. laden hoax. If you do, then this is the store for you; staff who, like you, think this is all some ruse. If you mask up every time you go out in public and hope to only encounter people who feel this situation requires extra attention and care, Stay. Away. From. Duke's. read more

This is the friendliest hardware store. I live a 5-minute drive away but only found out about Duke's when I needed to copy a Honda Pilot key. The plastic holding the remote broke and the remote stopped working. Most locksmiths charge $135 to $200 to make a copy, which is too much money for an 13 year old car. I purchased the key online for $10, and searched for stores close by that can cut the Honda key. My key has the remote and chip. I can transfer the chip myself from the broken key and on my car I can program the remote myself using instructions available online for older Hondas, but needed the new key cut. I found Duke's on Yelp. It took several attempts to get the cut perfectly so that it fits correctly in the ignition and will turn. Angel cut the key, and was persistent in working on it until he got it right. I also love the meter parking spaces in front of the store. Yes, it costs a few quarters (or you can use a credit card), but there's parking right out front. Very convenient. They also have propane tanks! Great service, friendly people. I only wished that I found out about them sooner. I just don't normally drive up Noriega. read more

Tim (or was it Tom) was super helpful running around the store with a sense of urgency that I absolutely, positively love, admire, and appreciate. My first time there, and I will be back, Young man at the register who attends SF State and was recently made store manager was also super professional. I liked when I asked him his age that he asked mine back. ;) Smart kid. read more

This hardware store is close to my house. Super handy and very friendly. Love this store! So glad it's in the neighborhood!

Great hardware store. They have all the things I needed for my home improvement projects.

Smiley and a knowledgeable/skilled staff. They carry a surprisingly respectable selection of products considering the small size of the store. Lots of useful items here for real estate agents who need supplies for an Open House. Carpet protectors, shoe covers, and lock boxes to name a few. On a recent visit I discovered that they can duplicate car keys. I have a late model SUV with a chipped laser-cut key. They had me in and out in less than 10 minutes! read more

The customer service is beyond excellent. It's rare to be greeted when entering a store anymore but here it's consistent. Super-helpful and friendly staff. I wish more stores in SF were managed like this one. The staff actually seem happy and enjoy their job!!! read more

I was shocked to find an Ace Hardware located here. I thought it was a $1 thrift store!!!! I guess I should open up my eyes a bit wider! We needed to make some duplicate keys. They were able to do it for us within 5 minutes! SUPER FAST!!!! They have keys here that have Disney characters, Playboy bunny character, etc. A great way to distinguish between your keys. I thought it was pretty cool. I'm going to have to come back to make more duplicate keys. They have a lot of DIY items/tools that you would find at Home Depot. The workers here speak both English and Cantonese. Its a small store that packs a lot! read more

Let's start by saying we that I didn't have my receipt because I go there frequently. I tried to get a refund for an item that didn't work out and it was unopened. The sales rep was very kind for going through all the trouble. However the MANAGER Mr Hung on the other hand was VERY rude. Dude seriously, I know $1.62 isn't a lot of money, but it's still my money. He made it very obvious that he didn't want to help because I didn't have my receipt. He even asked if I bought the item elsewhere but the packaging clear says ace hardware. My wife found my receipt last minute in her purse and Mr Hung rudely says "Too late" and then takes another 5 minutes to give me a cash refund without the need of a receipt. So basically, they are able to give refund/store credit without giving their customers a hard time but Mr Hung just doesn't want to do it and ultimately wants to give customers a hard time? The other sales reps are incredibly nice and helpful. For a neighborhood hardware store, I'm happy to know they are there to help. Only takes one person to ruin the experience. read more
