I see they have great reviews online and based on that we called them to help with our garage door remote that was not working and a bathroom door handle- they are nice and friendly, but gave me very expensive quote, I paid them $200 but ended up just ordering the remote for $20 on amazon and installing myself as they gave a follow up quote of another $150. So something I got done in $20 was $350 from them. Also they said they will call me to fix the bathroom door lock which was not an emergency, it has been three months no call back to me. The person who picks phone when you call back said to call them back at 9 am or 5 pm when Mr Vern is there, why cannot he tell Mr Vern to call me back? Poor service and would not use again and would not recommend. read more

I needed to make 20 copies of a key and called around. Millbrae Lock said they could get it done in just 5 minutes for all 20, which was incredibly efficient! I know if I had gone to Home Depot or Lowe's, it would've taken much longer with their self-service machines. That said, it was a bit pricier compared to the self-serve options, but I feel like I paid for the convenience and time saved. The owner was friendly and helpful. They initially tried to walk us through fixing our door lock over the phone. Then they nicely offered to help us out if we brought the part in. My husband went in and they helped him. The guy that works here is racist and hostile. Went in because my key broke in my engine, I waited in line and finally came up to the front desk. When me and my boyfriend let him know what was going on and asked if we could borrow pliers/tools, he insisted he had the tools but we don't know how to use them and he can't leave the store. I thought he was joking but he was aggressive and hostile. My boyfriend assured him we knew how to use the tools and he continued to engage in a way that made me feel unsafe. It's difficult to think that in this day and age and community we would experience blatant racism, but his behavior cannot be explained in any other way. Had a problem with a stuck door key. I brought the lock cylinder with the stuck key to the gentleman at the counter. He looked at it, and aligned the stuck key with the cylinder and pull it out effortlessly. He then lubricated the cylinder with a special and costly lubricant. I was so pleasantly pleased, and ask him how much I owe him. He scooted me out the door with no charge. Can't ask for better and generous service. Needed a copy of a key for my safe deposit box. Banks no longer do it for you. My was an old key so it was hard to find a lock smith that had proper key to make the copy. That good I went to Millbrae Lock, they have a lot of different keys and more. After I had a copy made took it too the bank to make sure it would work. It was able open the safe deposit box, but wasn't able to close it. Took it back to Millbrae Lock and they apologized and made some adjustments. Gave the copy another test and still didn't work. Millbrae Lock decided to make a new copy. Took new copy to bank to test and it works perfect. I expected an additional charge for all the time Millbrae Lock spent on it, but no additional charge. Lock not working. Old Schlage. Called to see if they could come out and they advised I bring the lock in. It would be less expensive that only if I was comfortable bringing it in. Got at their shop. Had to wait five minutes or so. He took a look, took it apart and relaxed the springs and pins. That took ten minutes. Out in fifteen. Outstanding service. Contacted them to rekey a lock. Staff was friendly and informative. Only thing I thought was weird is that I had an appointment set with them between 4 -5 PM. At 4:45 I missed their call and they left me a voicemail saying to call back ASAP to confirm my appointment, otherwise they weren't coming. Other than that, it was a great experience. read more

I called Millbrae Lock at the suggestion of a contractor to fix my front door handle & lock. The Owner was incredibly rude and hung up the phone on me for no reason!! I told him I needed work on my front door lock assembly, and sight unseen, he kept telling me that parts are impossible to get if it is from Europe, and wouldn't listen to my attempts to tell him that I don't need any keys but need to have the door handle repaired which came off. I also told him that he needs to looks at it to decide if he can fix it or not. To clarify, I told him that I don't want any keys, but need someone here, 3 miles away to fix it. When he hung up the phone on me, retorted that he didn't have time to argue since he was very busy, while I was trying to explain to him that I don't need a key. Bottomline, I believe he is a misogynist and if I were a man's voice on the phone, he would have listened to him, and arrange an appointment to actually look at the handle to decide if he could fix it or not. read more

Vern, the owner is such a stand up guy. The staff is also very friendly. I was able to get an appointment for our doors to be re-keyed within a few days and Vern was on time and extremely professional. Our front door was a little sticky to begin with but it was rekeying made it a little worse. I stopped by the shop and Vern came out shortly after and helped fix the issue (including any pre-existing ones).. my husband was so impressed he kept saying "it's smooth like butter!" all day and our guests have commented. Get your keys made here (way more reliable key copies than Osh or Ace). Consistent, reliable service for our agency throughout the years; Excellent customer service. They also sell lock-boxes, key wallets, key chains, etc. A great local neighborhood shop. The kind of place that makes you feel all warm and fuzzy supporting local small businesses. These guys really know what they're doing. You'll leave trying to figure out an excuse to support them again. read more

3.5 stars. I came here to make 2 copies of all the keys for our new place. Service was fast, though not particularly friendly. A couple of other (regular?) customers were there, and the staff kept chatting with them, even while taking my order/request, which I kinda didn't like. It actually took quite awhile, too--15 minutes for 8 keys? Hmm... Also, it's expensive--over $2 per key (even private, non-chain places in Berkeley and the Sunset don't charge more than $1.50, in my experience). The keys all worked, though, and the guy had sorted the copies and put each set of copies on a separate little keyring with the original, which was a very nice touch. I'd probably come back here, though I wouldn't stick around and wait. read more

My BFF had a broken apartment lock emergency with herself outside the apt and her 14-month old toddler (& my goddaughter) inside. Rescued by Milbrae Lock and unnoticed by the napping girlie, everything worked out but for the brush with panic. Cost? 0$ --because they have no-charge policy for such calls when a little one is locked indoors.
