After having 2 other locksmiths try to change our locks, we called Art's Peninsula Locksmith. The only reason I called the other 2 was because they were available immediately and we needed the work done immediately. We had to go one day without locks on our door because of the first two locksmiths. Art's has been in business for many years and we have used them on several occasions but when they could not do our locks that day, we felt we had no choice but to call another locksmith company. We did not pay the first 2; called Art's, they came out to check what the other 2 did, temporarily repaired their sloppy work, came back the next day and completed the removal/installation of our new locks. Needed a spare key for my '00 Toyota Celica, so I turned to Yelp for help! The first option that came to mind was Lowe's, however, after some additional research, I was able to find Art's. While the prices are a tad more expensive, I wanted to support a local spot and the quality is much better, since this is their specialty! Chatted with "Art" upon entry who gave us a brief history of the shop. They are family/woman owned and have been in business for decades! In addition to making copies of keys, they have an extensive collection of doorknobs, locks, doorbells and more! The key was made within minutes--I was able to pay cash, and it was $10 out the door. They are located right on El Camino, and have a dedicated parking area so you don't have to worry about parking on the main street, if you don't want to. Went to have a couple house keys made. The heavy set person who I think was the owner told me that the keys I wanted to duplicate were possible janitor keys. Janitor keys!!! I do not know what that means. He then told it would be $15 each to cut this key. I walked out and went to ACE Hardware in Burlingame who charged me $5 per key. I would avoid Arts Lock. read more

My initial phone contact was fine. I told him we needed locks changed on a apartment building. I even told him I wanted brushed nickel hardware. I was not there for the service, but he only changed the tumblers and these were pretty old locks. my daughter was kind of overseeing this job, he was nasty with her because I needed the job done at 4. I was not aware of him not changing the hardware until a month later when one of the locks broke. He charged over 2k, so I thought he had done as I asked. I had a hyper-specific situation with my locks that needed local expertise (peninsula moisture leading to premature seizure of outdoor locks that I purchased online regardless of price quality or materials used). The few other locksmiths in the near vicinity with high ratings on Yelp that I went to were all dumbfounded, uninterested with my issue, or offered no specific, actionable advice. Art's was the only one who showed any care for my problem and demonstrated strong subject-matter expertise by explaining things in detail to me. I believe it was Art's son who recommended me a product for my issue, which has worked without fail to this day, when all other products I'd gotten had failed by now. I won't lie, they're pricier than the competition and what you can find at other locksmiths or e-retailers. However, I prioritize excellent customer service and quality products that actually work, both of which Art's delivers, and when you factor those in, their price is justified and a better value in the longer run than these other places. For me to get the job done once and not have to go back to it later or worry about it in the future, I'd absolutely go back to Art's without hesitation. The owner of this shop is super friendly and helpful! It was my first time coming into a locksmith shop for a spare key and he was very informative. My car is quite old (1993 collector's sports car), the original key to the vehicle had shown clear signs of wear and tear after being regularly used over the years. Of course, it's normal but having only one key is a risk because it can break on me at any given moment. Hence, why I decided to come in for a spare. I brought in my own key and the owner was able to perfectly match the cut of my original key. After creating my spare key, the owner decides it's best to double check his own work. He goes the extra mile by leaving his shop and walking a block down to my vehicle to check the quality of his work. As soon as he was able to confirm that there was no problems with the newly cut key, he thanks me for business and makes his way back to his shop. Having so many years of experience in the locksmith industry, he thought it was important to explain the common problems of creating newly cut keys for such an old car. The owner explained that the newly cut key I requested could have possibly taken shape of my worn out original key. Another possibility being that my ignition switch might have needed replacing which is why he wanted to check everything was okay. Overall, my experience here was great! Quick and easy! On 12/17/2018, I walked into the shop. The man in the shop asked me not to put my hands into my pocket. I just want to buy a brass padlock and go. So, I don't care what he said. I bought half a dozen of padlocks there when I lived in San Bruno. I picked a Best padlock and tried to pay. He said 180 dollars. I can buy the same padlock on Ebay for 15. I said, What? He raised the price. This padlock is $200, You picked the most expensive padlock. I put down the padlock. He was still talking something like, Not everyone can afford a padlock. Today walking up to work I had a problem with our front door being jammed. After contacting my boss to reach out to a locksmith I was given these guys number. They were very fast to answer the phone and when given the estimated time of arrival I asked if they could be here sooner they said no problem and arrived 10 mins before the time I was given. Didn't work for me. They don't seem to know what they are doing. Waste of time and money. Fortunately they didn't fleece me for very much money and I had my bank refund me the money that they did manage to get from me. I see all these great reviews on here, and don't know what to make of them. I ended up going to Bill's Lock Shop a few blocks south of these guys and he solved my issue nice and easy. The lady here was really nice on the phone, but when I went in she was suuuper rude and unprofessional. She acted like I was inconveniencing her with my presence, and kept saying things like, "you probably have Covid right now" and, "why don't you have any cash, next time bring cash" when I pulled out my debit card to pay with. Man, I'm never going to this place again, they seriously suck, I wouldn't of really minded all the rudeness and unprofessionalism all that much if they'd of done a legit job with the key that I needed made, but unfortunately, the key was a dud. This was my experience with them, maybe yours will be totally different, but I'd stay away after reading something like this from another reviewer on here or on Yelp, you never know, you might be the one that gets the service and treatment that I got. They had masters for a variety of keys we needed for our little RV and it's storage, water tank etc. I didn't see an Art's sign outside and they are blended with a shop that sells nobs, drawer pulls etc (like Belmont Hardware). I called another place in Millbrae and they charge $60 to replace a lock on a mailbox. Art's was the second place I called and they charged $65 to have someone come out. I asked if they price matched and they did for $60. After having the lock changed, I asked to match keys for other locks and they charged another $60 just for that. This place is good and fast. They came out within a half an hour from my call. But a little pricey; hence, a 4-star rating. Otherwise, I would recommend this place. read more

Went here about a month ago to get my KeyBlades cut for my KeyPort. The locksmith I went to in SSF for my last keyport, had closed or retired. I was so happy when I found this place. Always prefer a mom and pop store locksmith compared to Home Depot or Lowes. My keys are not normal and I was surprised when they recognized what it was and that he had cut several of these before. After replacing my front door, I brought the original mortise lock set to Art's Peninsula Locksmith / Designer's Brass. Boy was I surprised at how nice both gentlemen who helped me were. Not only did I find out that the lock was still in good shape, I was shown how to re-install it the correct way. I set up an appointment to have the mortise cut. Hike, the technician, was right on time ( a huge plus in my book). Unfortunately my original door handle was to wide for the new door (not this shops fault I must add). I had to buy a new handle, which I also purchased from them. Hike came back to the house & installed a temporary cylinder so I would be able to lock the door while the stain was drying and he could come back in a few days to install my new door handle etc. Bottom line I would most definitely go back & recommend to my friends and family. read more

My Scion TC car keys broke and I had purchased a blank key online as Toyota was going to charge me $300 for a new key. Reason for the steep price is because the keys have a transponder in them. After getting a blank key online for $6 I moved the old keys transponder and keyless buttons over to the blanks and took it to Home Depot who refused to cut the key as it was not purchased there and they didn't want to take a chance of messing it up. I then took it to this place and within minutes for $6 I was out the door with a key that works in my car. Very happy with this place. read more

What a pleasurable experience! This company deserves more credit on yelp. With the chaos that goes into moving, I am happy to find Art's shop to help with our keying problems. Long story short, we went there to get a new lock plus set of keys but after talking to Art, he explained to us that we do not need to change the whole lock; just need to be re-key because our current lock has a special mechanism for multiple entry purposes. That saved us over $250. On top of that, he could do the project in the next 15 minutes and knew exactly where we lived. He was amazingly quick and knowledgeable. I also realize we needed an extra key for the main door and he offered to make us a spare in his truck where he kept the tools. How awesome and convenient! Although he was a bit pricier than the other places I've called, I would not take my business elsewhere. He is the best in his field. read more

They are an amazing family business and just alerted me to a scam from a locksmith who represented themselves as taking the overflow from local locksmiths. My house was robbed and I looked up Art's locksmith on my phone, up came this number I wasn't familiar with. I was in a hurry and when they said they were affiliated with Art's I told them I needed a new dead bolt. Some seedy dude shows up changes my lock, I paid with my credit card. A few days later I went down to Art's for some more keys and they said they had no knowledge of anyone changing my lock. So they volunteered to change my lock at no charge and gave me new keys. Im new to the area but I had a fantastic experience (once again) at Art's locksmith. This time I was there to install a dead bolt and the founder's daughter helped me out with a new lock and gave my daughter a lollipop. She re-keyed the lock so I can have one key across all our locks. I came back here because about 6 months ago, the founders son (art jr I believe) helped me with a very old Baldwin lockset that I thought would need replacing. Instead he convinced me to keep it since "they don't make them like they used to" and helped me refurbish it. He saved me a bunch of coin in the process.
