These Guys Are Great! Yeah, they are a bit more expensive then going to a Home Depot or a Longs Drugs to get a key made, but their service is EXCELLENT. I found these guys because Home Depot couldn't copy a certain mailbox key for me and these guys could. Plenty of street parking. I used Millbrae Lock to make a house call and for changing locks after making an court-ordered eviction of an occupant in a South San Francisco property. They serve the greater peninsular area. I forgot the gentleman's name, but he was very helpful and patient. He is familiar with eviction processes and even knows the sheriffs who came. He charges extra for a longer wait, and advised me of what locks needs changing and which ones doesn't. I find that their fee is very fair for service provided. Thank you Millbrae Lock!!! This past weekend my wife accidentally locked herself out of our house while I was away. I called all around town trying to find a trustworthy locksmith (trust me you need the best in this profession). I had heard this horror story on NPR awhile back (http://www.npr.org/2011/07/20/138480822/when-you-call-a-locksmith-will-a-con-man-answer) about fake locksmiths conning people out of money. I called around town trying to find a locksmith; knowing a little bit about picking I asked a few basic questions to the other companies (none of which I really felt comfortable with), not to mention they said it would be HOURS before they could be there. I finally came across Millbrae Lock who could be there within 10 minutes and seemed very knowledgeable. So I agreed to let them come rescue my wife for a reasonable fee (it was a holiday so the charge was a bit more than usual). My wife called me within 5 minutes to let me know they arrived, and she kept me up to date with his progress. Within a few minutes he had successfully picked the lock with no damage to the lock or door. The gentleman (sorry forgot his name) who came out was extremely knowledgeable, friendly, and talented (my wife had nothing but great things to say about him). I've had several keys made at Millbrae lock, including a few difficult ones that I wouldn't have trusted with less reputable, experienced establishments. Customer service is usually pretty good, though not overly friendly. Only reason that I don't give them more stars is that I purchased a key ring that turned out to be cheap and broke down after about a month. I took the key ring back with a key I had made. Though I did not ask for a refund, I would have expected them to be a little more sympathetic, perhaps offering me a little discount. But, nothing. Not even "sorry about that" read more

I went to my in-law's house to try and lubricate a stiff deadbolt lock, only to find that I could not get it to work freely. So, I removed it from the door and brought it to Millbrae Lock to see if I could buy just the portion that was stiff. I did not need a whole new lock. These guys deserve your business, you will definitely be very happy! I had a bit of a unique situation where I was victim to the various scammers out there who use 1 key to make multiple locks. The guy came out, took 3 hours, kept a copy of my keys and had me make a check out to himself for $700, and in an effort to get a shifty guy out of my house with little kids at 10 pm at night I paid it but followed up the next day on the situation. There is much more to this story ... but this is about Millbrae Lock. I spoke to Doug here, explained to him my concern that I was victim of a scam and wanted to see if he could help me out asap. About an hour later I had a technician at my house who's name escapes me at the point of this review but one I will follow up on. If you need a key made this should be your first stop. We needed an extra key made for a door lock from the early 1950's. Ilco brand key 1001EB. Kiosk at Millbrae Safeway couldn't make the the key. Ace Hardware in Pacifica could not make the key. It is a special order key for them. Millbrae Lock has a virtual library of old style keys and all the new style too. Highly recommended! The lock in my doorknob broke and I was locked out of my apartment at 8:30 PM. My 14 month old daughter was inside sleeping. I told them on the phone that my baby was inside and the guy arrived in about 15 minutes. My doorknob is old and it took about half an hour for him to get my door open. The whole time, he kept me updated and talked with me just enough to keep me from panicking. When he was finished and I asked how much it cost he told me, "We don't charge when there is a child in the house." Wow! He was great, got me back in with my baby, and did it as a courtesy. I normally rate Millbrae Lock 5* but my recent experience was rated 1* instead. Vern and his staff were always professional, courteous and do good work. I visited the store yesterday and was served by "Doug", a new guy. "Doug" was very rude, quick to anger and yelled at me for asking a question. Today, I told Vern this bad experience. I told Vern his worker "Doug" is in the wrong job - locksmith is in the service and retail business. I will continue to use Millbrae Lock but will make sure they don't send "Doug" to my place. Highly recommended for all of your key needs. I came in with a few blanks for my motorcycle to get copies made. They did not charge more (as many other shops i had tried) for bringing in my own blanks. It turned out my blanks were not correct (too short). They were able to find the correct blanks and get them cut. Since I didnt have my bike with me, they said if it did not work, bring them back and they would replace. It is a bit out of the way for me but it is my new spot to get all of my key needs taken care of. read more

Asked them to install a front door handle set and they gave me a bid. Vern (the owner) came out and raised the cost by $100. Didn't give a good reason, just said "that's what it cost". I felt the business, and certainly the owner, should have honored their estimate. Cost $433 to install a lockset that cost about half of that. Too much. read more

Called around my area and found that most locksmiths are working mobile only now. I had tried numerous large hardware stores ( Lowes, Ace, Home Depot and Orchard )only to be told that, they could not make the key I had for one reason or another. I found Millbrae Lock via Yelp and called after hours. I spoke with the employee that was on after hours on-call and since it was for a car key, he suggested that I come by the shop and bring the vehicle with me if possible. I arrived the following day and was acknowledge immediately from the prior call I made and was give 5 Star service !! I realize that my purchase was very small but was given the same treatment as if I had spent several hundred dollars at their shop. Being locked out of your house on a Sunday is not fun -- when you call a locksmith, you're likely to get an answering machine. If you are lucky enough to get a person, you're likely to get an outrageous quote. I chose Millbrae Lock today (Sunday) because: 1. They answered their phone immediately and we're available to help 2. They had the lowest rate In addition to that, the gentleman on the phone said that he would arrive in 20-45 minutes and...guess what? He did! And it was closer to 20 minutes! Perhaps it was a slow day, but on a Sunday that's just plain impressive. Thanks Millbrae Lock!!! Note: The ONLY reason I didn't give 5 stars was because of the rate. While it was the lowest, it was still pretty high.
