I made my second visit to Blo today. This time for color. I couldn't be more happy with the outcome! The cost seem pretty standard for color. I have read complaints regarding cost, but I find Blo's prices to be normal, when compared to other salons of their caliber. Again, I must say how impressed I am with Bonnie. We worked together to find a color and style that was the right balance for my facial features, skin tone and eye color. This girl knows her stuff! Bonnie did an excellent job communicating with me the various steps that we would need to take to achieve the color/style I had requested. I liked that as we moved from one step to the next she let me know what we were doing, and made sure I was ok with it. I have been exceedingly happy with the quality of service I have received this far. I have already booked appointment number three. Ladies and gents if you're on the market for a stylist. I'm new to Raleigh. I called Blo, got an appointment quickly and was happy with my haircut. A month later I called to book a trim and a root touchup. I was told I absolutely would not be given an appointment unless I emailed a picture of my hair today and a picture of how I wanted my hair to look. This was news to me. I didn't have to send pictures for my first appointment. The Blo website even says walk-in clients are welcome. I reiterated that I wanted my same hairstyle, only trimmed a little, and my roots touched up. Could I make an appointment now and then send some pictures as soon as I showered (just exercised and my hair was icky)? Blo's answer: No!! My feelings: Absolute amazement. I was in North Carolina for some time, and I needed a place where I could get my hair done. I googled hair cut places and saw that Blo was the best, so I went in looking for a haircut.... What I got was a beautiful environment full of kind and amiable people who not only cared about your hair but also cared about you. Not only were the stylists so talented but they were so personable and that allows them to be able to understand you and hair needs. As a result, they always give you what you desire. I was nervous about dying my hair to blonde once, but when i went in for my consultation, they helped me pick the perfect style and assured things would go well. When I went in for my appointment with Sarah, everything absolutely did. From then on, I constantly went to Blo for cuts, colorings, and stylings and often went to Olivia, Sarah, or Kim, and all three never disappointed with their skills as well as their amazing personalities. This salon is fantastic! It's clean, fresh and the staff is awesome. They really make an effort to tell you what is going on with your hair and what they think would work for you. They always make me feel like they are listening to my concerns, as I have had some really awful hair cuts. Absolutely love this salon! I haven't gotten a hair cut in over a year and the last color I had was red. Ali was amazing and was able to take out all the traces of red and bring me back to my natural blond tones! Everyone there is super friendly. Not to mention they serve wine and beer as well. It is a little pricy but well worth it. I'm so bad with maintaining my color but what I have now shouldn't be a problem and could last me a good while. Amazing job. This was my first time at Blo since I moved to Raleigh recently. The whole experience was fantastic. Bonnie, my stylist, was among the best I've ever had. I've been to lots of hair places in small towns and several big cities, and my hair was dry, fine, over-processed from repeated color, graying, and just in pretty bad shape overall. Bonnie had already looked at the pictures I submitted, she knew what I wanted, and she consulted with me first about options to make it happen. Bonnie was direct, friendly, professional, extremely knowledgeable, and efficient. She always used my name and she talked as much as I wanted. In two hours, I had semi-permanent color at my roots, permanent color to cover up old highlights at the bottom, highlights throughout, two different color glazes on the top and bottom to make my color continuous, an outstanding haircut with which I'm thrilled, and then she styled it in two different ways to show me how to replicate what she had done. This was the first time I've ever scheduled a follow-up appointment before leaving the salon. The environment was nice-- lively and friendly, and the staff at the front desk were courteous, helpful, and also efficient. I'd highly recommend Blo to anyone, Update: I've been to Bonnie three times now and my hair is in so much better shape than it was 5 months ago. I love that Bonnie remembers me every time, she knows the plan we made for my hair, yet every time she checks with me to see if I still want the same thing. I have had a couple of haircuts here, both with "blossom" level stylists. I have thick, curly, hair. I have never had a haircut like the one I had here. After the first time, I thought to myself that it is a high rated stylist, maybe it was just that one so I went back. The second time, it was a haircut they called a haircut still in "reconstruction phases" from the first time they messed it up. I asked for volume to be removed from my hair and they used thinning shears and cut out way too much so now I am stuck with flyaways and very short pieces inside my hair that I can actually feel. I have had thinning shears used on my hair before and never have had such problems. The first time I went there, my hair was long and the stylist cut it unevenly to the point where my husband could tell it was longer on one side and shorter on the other. I had to go back and one of their senior stylists "fixed it" but I no longer had my long hair I had been growing out with such difficulty. My hair was mid-back but now it is slightly above my shoulder. The reason for review is to warn those who are getting it cut by a blossom level stylist. They are all really nice people but I am not sure of their level of expertise with scissors. In terms of a high end salon, I would recommend Salon Blu which is also in Brier Creek. read more

Like a home away from home for my hair. Yes I'm a dude, but I love going here. I found Blo because I really needed a haircut on Sunday and most everyone else was closed. Once I had my hair cut here, I've never wanted to go anywhere else. It's the first time I've seen someone really take the time to mold my hair to what I wanted, and around the shape of my head in a perfect way. Everyone treats you like gold here, from front desk to hair. You can tell the attention to detail and heart that's put into everyone as soon as you walk in. I had seen Lindsay for a couple years, by far the greatest haircut stylist as well as a great blow out. I was looking to change things up and went to Jay and was just as impressed with his techniques and listening skills. Jay has colored my hair a few times now and he does a thorough, awesome job!! Always ensuring I am happy along the way. I admit there was a time I wasn't that happy with color and I left thinking, "Oh I just need to get used to perhaps." For my own silly reasons I held back from calling immediately, but after remembering Jay stressing that he wants to make his customers happy (and the fact I kept telling myself I work too hard to not be happy & enjoy such luxuries nowadays!) I called and was graciously welcomed back for a redo!! I was really impressed. The front desk is always helpful and typically knows me by name! I included photos they speak the truth. I don't care if the owner and staff got their feelings hurt. I don't care they refunded the last amount I paid the last time. I spent hundreds at their salon. I care about how horrible my hair looked. I care about how little they took my feelings into consideration. I care about the fact that all Bryan "the owner" did was defend all the horrible things that happened. I feel it is important to let people know what they are paying for. I had gone here several years ago and loved one stylist. She ended up leaving and I had to find another place to attend. I went here last summer and got a quick color before leaving town, which turned out bad, and had to get it fixed once I returned. To my amazement, the management staff JUMPED on my hair and it took a few times but they fixed it and had offered to give me a refund. I trusted them to do so, and they DIDN'T disappoint me. I also went here a week ago for a shampoo blow out and style, as us ladies need to do every now and then to feel good and pampered. I was given a quick appointment, went in and greeted with AMAZING care by Rachel and Lindsay(Head cheese of stylist). Both rocked my hair out and also gave them my bad reviews from last year. They quickly gave me options and also went over hair color reviews with me for a later date. Leaving my current stylist is hard, having moved, but BLO is close to my home now and I can ASSURE them I will become a quick further client again!!! I've been so impressed with the precautions for COVID that Blo has taken from the start. They opened only after the owner was certain staff could be protected and clients could be safely served. I've been to the salon several times since it's reopened and they continue to have all measures in place including temperature taking, reduced capacity, hand sanitizer everywhere, and cleaning the stations and chairs as soon as you step away after service. It's clearly safe and of course, the staff are as delightful as always. Always a great experience! read more

Be wary, this salon offers discounts for "positive reviews" I just received an email asking me to leave a POSITIVE review for my *upcoming* appointment on google for a $5 off coupon. Unfortunately my appointment was cancelled because I didn't email in pictures of my hair before my appointment. I work 40-60 hrs a week with a deployed spouse and two kids so I don't have a lot of time for myself, or to email photos of my hair for a consultation. Pictures are misleading, and without the right lighting how would you know the level or tone of my hair anyway? Unfortunately I won't be returning so I won't need to leave you a fake review. Here are some possible suggestions: block out enough time for an in person consultation before the appointment. I have been there before and paid well over $300, so canceling appointments is a little extreme unless it's a new client. read more

I needed to get my hair and makeup done for my maternity photo shoot and was able to secure an appointment the week of. The front desk was very professional and courteous. They got me a glass of water while I waited for my stylist Tessa. When coming to my appointment, I didn't know what hair style or how I wanted my makeup done but Tessa worked with me and offered some great suggestions including doing a wave in my hair. For my makeup, she did a great job and really enhanced my eyes. Overall my makeup and hair came out great and my sneak peek maternity photos were fantastic. This place is amazing. Everyone is beautiful, kind, and extremely knowledgeable. I explained that I want a haircut that I don't have to do anything to in the mornings as I have a 2 year old and no time. This is the first salon that I've been to in the Triangle area and I am beyond pleased with my experience. I had been growing out my hair for about a year, leaving it long, thick, but with no dimension. I longed for great bangs and more movement in my hair, so I gave Blo a try. I was lucky enough to get in with Theresa, a master stylist, at the last minute because she had a cancellation. When I walked in, the staff was super friendly, offered me a beverage, and what I thought was great is that when my stylist was running a few minutes behind schedule, another associate came up to advise me of this. I'm used to waiting in hair salons and I just see it as typical, but to have someone take the time out to make sure I was aware she would be right with me was a welcomed change. Theresa was amazing. She listened well to my ideas of how I wanted to change my hair, and assured me that it was a good idea to cut bangs and stated why (face shape, hair type, etc). She took the time to actually explain to me why the hairstyle would work, and I feel that she would have informed me if it wouldn't have as well and offered other solutions. My haircut turned out perfectly, and I'm very impressed with the quality of service that I was able to get there. So happy that I didn't have to hunt for a stylist after moving to Raleigh! read more

I just called as a first-time client to make an appointment for a cut and color. Cut would just be a trim, not changing the style at all. Color would just be going over greys with a color that matches my current color which is also my natural color. I was told if I wanted to have my hair done there I would either have to come in for a separate "consultation" (which would of course cost an extra fee) or I'd have to take several pictures of myself and send them to them and they'd "get back to me" to schedule an appointment. I specified that I wasn't looking to do any drastic change, and yet they still said I'd either have to come in (to give them more money) or send them my info and they'd get back to me. I asked if the email process was a separate charge and didn't get a straight answer. I also didn't get a straight answer on how long/if they would get back to me after sending them pics to determine if they felt like I was worth giving them my money. If you have unlimited time and resources and want to feel like you have to pass some sort of test for the privilege of giving them lots of your money, go for it. As for me, I think I'll stick to salons that don't make you jump through hoops to be a client and have people answering the phone who aren't rude and act like they're doing you a favor by allowing you the privilege of being one of their clients. read more

First of all: my hair is a mess, it's a fried bunch of dead cells attached somehow to my head. I decided to look around and the closest salon to my house was Blo in Brier Creek. Making an appointment was easy, you can book it on-line and I found a spot for the next morning (Saturday). Katie, a "new talent" took care of me. She was nice and honest, which I really liked. She gave me exactly what I wanted and she gave me a really nice hair cut.The prices are fair. It looks like around here an haircut is $40 up, exactly like here. The whole experience was very good for me, it was easy, painless and i came out with a smile. I'm taking away 1 star because: -the name is stupid. -this place really tries way to hard to be cool, if you go, you'll know what i mean -most of the hair stylists(not all of them, some of them were very very nice) have their "fight-face" on.. they don't really smile and you can tell that most of them think that they are the hottest piece of meat on the menu.. I guess i like nice people, people that smile at you, specially if you are paying for a service. On the other end, they all had amazing hair, so they are all living proof that they are probably good at what they do. read more

Wow. After going to Blo for 2 years, I took a two year hiatus since I was having a baby and trying to cut expenses. So, I wanted to now start going again. I called to make an appointment and they insisted I must first come in for a consultation. I understand they want to see my hair and want to prepare for my services but I explained there is no way I can come unless it's right before my appointment. I have a 2 year old and 2 other kids, my husband works and I stay home. The only time I can even squeeze in a hair cut is a Sunday (which is why I wanted to come back to Blo). THEY REFUSED TO SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT WITH ME! I told the receptionist that my hair is the same as it was 2 years ago....she checked with the stylist and called me back to say, "No, Sorry, we can't take you". I'm in shock! I have been going to Blo for about 3 years now; I have had two stylists Melanie (who moved away) and now Lindsay. My hair has never looked better. It's more than healthy looking even with color processing. If you don't like up to the minute and continually trained stylist this is NOT the place for you. They spend time with you each visit checking your hair and making sure what you want (same no problem..something new no problem). Being from NY originally its about time there is a salon with a good vibe, openess and beautiful decor ..not to mention the music is not boring and dull. I just finally convinced my two friends to try it both who have had no luck in 5 years finding a stylist they love. It is a refreshing change of pace from the humdrum hair salons that are a dime a dozen around here. It has taken a long time for me to write this review but I still feel as strongly about the experience as when it first happened. I went there two years ago after growing my long thick wavy hair out on purpose in hopes to getting a great cut at the appointed time. As soon as I sat in the chair the stylist started making these really snide comments about how thick and wavy my hair is (like I didn't know) but her comments made me feel criticized and unwelcome as a patron. She ended up giving me a soccer mom bob for someone with a hair texture and lifestyle completely different from mine. In retrospect I realized that she was extremely reluctant to style my hair, at the moment I was so happy to give them a try that I overlooked her hints. I wish that she just would have referred me to someone else rather than ruin my hair. Needless to say, I have not been back and I would NEVER recommend anyone to go there. No follow ups or confirmation/reminders. The day of the appt - ladies at reception weren't that welcoming/ chilly, not friendly and low energy, really bummed about that. Stylist was awesome though. Love the attention to training, cool website and really appreciate what the company stands for but turned off by chilly reception/first impression but maybe will give it another shot, hoping to get a I'll get a warm hello or offered a drink. I am not in the habit of posting reviews, but I felt it necessary in this instance. I have to agree with one of the most recent reviews on here, which picked up on the owner Bryan's inability to accept constructive criticism. I was one of his customers who had seen two different stylists (because my hair is long, and I don't get it cut often). My first cut was a pleasant experience. During my series of visits with the second stylist, I was prepping for a special event and trying to get my color just right (I had not previously used color services here). The color experience was a fiasco from start to finish. I never was able to achieve the desired shade, despite several attempts. Also, when my stylist supposedly did a few highlights during the last "multidimensional" service, I could see that the result was very uneven once I was able to style my hair on my own. I agree with other comments that the pricing is very arbitrary, as services were added during my visit (at the shampoo bowl during the color session) that inflated my final price at checkout, which were not requested by me originally. I communicated with the owner on two occasions, speaking with him by phone and by email. I was left with the impression that the stylists know best, and that the customer should spend as much on their hair as the stylist thinks (in their opinion) they should (because after all, they are the experts). The lack of clarity and quality were my two main issues. This may be the "cool" place to go in Raleigh, and some people voted for it as the best, but the vibe is not right for me. It was not real enough for me to build a relationship with them, and they will no longer receive my business. I have already found another salon and stylist with much better communication and clearer pricing that works for me... By the way, when I tried to post the review on their Facebook page, they deleted it, and used the block feature from allowing me to post it again. They also blocked my daughter's comments as well (it was her wedding that we were preparing for, as Bryan commented on below). Her hair experience was also terrible here, but I thought I would let her speak for herself. Since he broached the subject, she was the bride, and had to go to another salon (as did I, in addition to all of the other details that needed attention) and spend additional money, in order to get her hair colored to her satisfaction for her walk down the aisle. I am writing this updated review because I was contacted by the owner with a very sincerely apologetic email about what happened during my visit (bad customer service and overcharging without my consent). They credited the overcharges back to my card, which was more than I had hoped for and made me feel a little better about Blo. I'm not sure if I will return, but I definitely feel less bitter thanks to the owner's efforts. It's good to see a business trying to make unhappy customers feel like their voices matter. read more

From the front desk's hospitality to the massage chairs (so many likes) to the stylists who consistently work wonders with neglected bangs, it's a positive experience from start to finish. I brought my boyfriend along the last time I went in, and he got a super nice beard and hair trim that only took a few minutes. Took my little girl, 8, to get a hair cut after school. First let me explain that this girl has some crazy hair. It is super curly on the bottom and straight on the top, and to top it all off, it has got to be the thickest head of hair you will see. And then if that all weren't cruel enough, she is super SUPER tender headed. So we all head into Blo right after school ready for a change. My little one is nervous about the cut because: a.) she "doesn't want to look like a boy" and b.) she hates getting her hair washed at most places because the sink hurts her neck. I am a little nervous about being a walk-in and getting in because it is 4:30. They get us right in, no problem!! After a 10 minute wait (again at 4:30 so the torture could have been way worse), this sweet lady, whose name has escaped me, comes to get Kyra, my girl,and introduces herself. She takes her to her station and finds out what we want and need and even asks Kyra about her opinion and worries. After reassuring Kyra that the sink will not only be painless but she will also get a massage, they head to the sink for the wash. Kyra was nothing but smiles. Now for the cut...she was so gentle with Kyra, who I remind you is the most tender headed 8 year old you will ever meet, and after cutting section after section after section..after section, a little tag team blow drying, and more cutting Kyra came out with a smile on her face, saying "thank you!! I feel like a new girl!!" As we walk out to the car, she runs her tiny fingers through her hair saying, "we can only come here from now on". So thank you to the ladies at Blo. Recently I trusted Blo with my first ever hair dye. I wanted an ombre style and the receptionist recommended Ariel. She gave me the best cut and color ever! I have gotten so many compliments in the last few days! I've spent a long time looking for a hair designer to work with my quirky hair and I have found her! Bonnie at Blo is an Artist with hair! I'm growing out my gray and I love the color but it's taking forever and it's not pretty, so I went to see Bonnie after seeing some amazing pictures of her clients on Instagram. And where others have either fried my hair or left the color flat and dull, each a problem when you want some of your hair to be white...Bonnie did her magic and achieved a look I love on our first appointment! The transition will take several appointments, which she explained at our consultation. She worked with my time frame and budget...very important to me. I received a really unflattering haircut at Blo. My stylist struck me as sweet, well-intentioned, and young. The haircut she gave me ("shaping" in the salon's lingo) simply didn't work for my face. I have thin, fine hair, and a proportionally large nose for my face: I look best in haircuts that provide volume on the sides of my face, and balance my nose. The haircut I received, in contrast, clung to the sides of my face in a curiously flat, two-dimensional way. It also had really sharp, visible layers that didn't blend in with the rest of my hair. By way of illustrating how unflattering this cut was on me: my husband, in trying to say something positive about my haircut, was reduced to assuring me that I'm beautiful to him, "no matter what [my] hair looks like." Blo is in an interesting, albeit somewhat unwelcoming, space. Vaguely reminiscent of a warehouse, it has cement floors and exposed girders on the ceiling. Loud techno music was playing when I visited. My haircut and the ambiance were pretty unpleasant - I'm giving the salon 2 stars because my stylist really seemed to want to make things right after it became clear that the haircut wasn't what I'd wanted. She offered to have me come back (at no charge) to see if she could fix my hair. I just didn't trust her to do it. read more
