This was my first haircut with a new girl (couldn't go to my old gal anymore since we moved) in 4 years. Safe to say I was a little nervous! I called on a Tuesday with an excited bug to get short hair. Tina had an appointment for the very next day! When I got to the salon, it reminded me a relaxing cabin in nature. There were a few different rooms - check in, hair cutting, and then the shampooing room. While washing my hair, Tina gave the best head massage. OH my goodness! I've never been one to utterly relax while getting my hair cut/worked on, but here I did. And I can't wait to come back! When she cut my hair, we started light with just a couple inches off. She asked how I liked the length, and I asked if there's any way she could take another inch off (I hate to be THAT person, I was just so excited to have shoulder length hair again). She was so nice about it! She cut more, then I loved it, then she dried/styled it and I was on my merry way. Here's a pic of my shocked and happy face at how much I loved my hair. Tina and Lynn are AWESOME! I came in at the end of September for my first haircut since 2019, and to get some new, bright colors added for fall. It turned out PERFECTLY, and I couldn't be happier! Tina took the time to talk with me about how we could best layer the fun colors for maximum effect, and both she and Lynn checked in regularly to make sure the bleaching and coloring were coming along like we wanted. It's been about 6 weeks now, and my colors are still vibrant and gorgeous and giving me a happy thrill whenever I look at them :) The stylists at Salon 21 are friendly and skillful, and the salon itself is SO cozy and peaceful; you can chat with Lynn and Tina and other clients, or just admire the trees through the windows and listen to the blow-driers--no pressure either way. I was SO excited to have my hair professionally colored for the first time in four years. I chose this salon because of the amazing 5 star reviews. The I wanted simple- dark tips, kind of a reverse ombré. I asked for a trim and a thin. The trim went fine, but now that I'm home and brushing my hair the next day, I'm truly seeing how sad the dye job is. I thought it was questionable the first day but decided to sleep on it. A simple part, or half up, or side braid leaves me with spots. :( I'm really sad about it, and after 3+ hours there I thought it would look great. I can't say I would recommend them right now, even though the stylists were so very nice. Giving them 3/5 for atmosphere and a decent trim. Wish I had $150 to blow on myself regularly. This was meant to be an amazing treat. I'm just supremely sad that with so many good reviews my color looks so splotchy and uneven. I have not contacted the salon yet, but I honestly think it looks bad enough to warrant fixing. read more

So since I don't get the same stylist every time I cannot expect the same level of quality every time. I get it. But when I showed my stylist a photo showing her what I wanted I still got a completely different color. The subsequent touch ups haven't covered all the grey. And the last time I went just before a vacation the cut I received left me with a chunk missing on the left side. It was very embarrassing to be in Vegas with a cheap looking cut that wasn't cheap. Also, check the prices before you get a service done as the prices on the website don't always match what they mean to charge you. read more

I decided to go from brunette to blonde but was a little nervous since I was looking for a new stylist. I wanted to keep my hair as healthy as possible in the process so I wanted to do it over several appointments. Toni truly was the sweetest and worked her magic! I just moved into the area and needed a cut/color desperately. After reading many reviews on yelp I settled on 21 because of its great reviews. I was able to get in quickly, 2 days after I called( sometimes that is not always a good sign). Pros, The salon was clean, nicely decorated and in a good location. Stylist were friendly and there was an adorable little dog running around. Cons, prices were much higher than what was on their "vague pricelist" stated on line and when I booked nobody informed me that the stylist I chose/given was at the highest end of the stated vague range. Then I was charged extra because she used a toner after my color and I was not informed that it would be an extra charge until given the bill. Most salons I have been to if a toner was needed, it was included. Which I would expect at a higher priced salon. There was also a kid literally running around the salon while his sister was getting a cut, mom in the corner oblivious, bit distracting and very unprofessional. Color was just ok (not quite the golden color I asked for), cut was just ok(quick and my hair was still damp when I left). Start to finish less than 2 hrs. Will I go back? Probably not. read more

I moved to Raleigh about 6 months ago and had been putting off getting my hair cut as long as possible. I knew it would be difficult to find someone to cut my hair - it always is when you move to a new city. I read some reviews on some other websites (yelp had very few reviews to offer). Talia was the girl I went with. Upon arrival I was greeted by another stylist who was very friendly. Talia and I had a little conference before my shampoo to discuss what I wanted. After a great shampoo I got great conversation and a great haircut. Note, that by the time I had my haircut it was in need of a complete style makeover after having waited 6 months to get it cut. I still like the style 3 weeks later and it's still holding its shape nicely. Talia is very nice and did a great job cutting my hair. I am looking forward to going back to her. So I came in the other day to get my hair colored and I had the most wonderful experience ever. Ryan welcomed me with open arms and made me feel right at home. Then Lilah came out. Just had an amazing haircut by Beccah and I left the salon feeling refreshed and beautiful! I have thick, curly hair and have had my fair share of disastrous hair cuts. My last haircut was so bad that it has been two years since I have let a stylist cut my hair-and Beccah has restored my faith! She walked me through everything she did and even gave me samples of the products that she was using (with no feelings of pressure to buy). I had an appointment with Talia and it could not have gone better. I have pretty thick hair and usually I end up not so happy with my cut, as it gets pretty poofy if not cut well. I'd gone to Carmen Carmen! at Belk for the previous year, but no longer work there (thank god) so needed something convenient to State. Salon 21 had a 5pm opening, and offered 20% off first-time services, so that sold me! It's a very nice, comfortable atmosphere, and not too "salon-ish," which is great. Justine was my "hair artist," and she was spectacular. I felt bad for her, having to deal with my mop of hair upon my head, but she handled it wonderfully. A shampoo (and rinse after the cut) is included in the price, which is another nice touch. A men's cut with Justine was $25 ($20 after the discount!), and well worth it. She was able to match and fix my hair color. She helped me find a new style and took the time to show me how to achieve it at home. Ask for Andrea! I've been going to Andrea for over a year and even though I'm relocating PT, I will make sure to come to Raleigh when I need a retouch. I initially wanted to go super-blonde and Andrea worked with me to pick a shade that would work with my skin and eyebrows. I loved the look but recently decided to change to a darker blonde; Andrea made sure I had a seamless transition and I am SUPER happy with it. Andrea really cares about making sure you're happy with your hair, not because she wants the $$$ (although she deserves generous gratuity), but rather she wants you to love your look. She even trimmed my clip-in hair extensions to blend perfectly with my natural hair. She'll work you into a busy schedule (she even now cuts my boyfriend's hair) and always remembers you, your hair, and your interests. She's the best of everything: fun, friendly, and skilled. I found Salon 21 on yelp after looking for a salon to fix a bad haircut I'd received earlier that day. I knew the odds of getting an appointment that day were slim, but after calls to 8 different salons in Raleigh, Andrea at Salon 21 said she could fit me in since another appointment of hers had just cancelled. I asked for her suggestions on dyeing my hair darker (while still looking natural) and she made a gorgeous custom color for me with light brown, dark brown, and red undertones. The color looked great, and she fixed my botched haircut after washing out the dye. She cut my hair a little above my shoulders (which was a little scary for me since I've never cut my hair that short) and I absolutely LOVED the cut. It was even better than what I'd imagined, and that combined with the gorgeous dye job made me ecstatic. The prices were also great considering the rates of other salons in the area.
