After reading all the great reviews on Yelp, I visited Salon 21. The salon is clean and quaint, the staff is very nice! I made an appointment with Andrea for a Pravana Perfection Smoothing treatment and a trim. Andrea did a great job on the smoothing treatment! My hair was thicker, straighter, and smoother. When cutting my hair, Andrea made my bangs look amazing! The cut is great, my hair looks so full of health and body! Long-locked girls, be careful, though---an inch easily turned into three. Next time, I will be very careful to tell Andrea to just "dust the ends," so I don't lose so much length, but she is a great stylist and a wonderful person. I hadn't gotten a haircut in well over a year after moving to Raleigh and not knowing where to go for a good haircut. After seeing the great reviews Salon 21 had I thought I would give it a chance. I made an appointment with Chloe and she did an amazing job! She greeted me as soon as I came in and started asking me questions about my hair and what I wanted for my haircut. I described it as well as showed her photos. She did exactly what I wanted and exceeded my expectations. Its one of the best haircuts I have ever gotten. My hair which felt damaged and brittle before feels and looks beautiful and healthy now. I am thrilled! I will absolutely be returning and using Chloe in the future. I loved the location as well. Second time at the salon. Got my hair cut today by Lynn. Hands down the best cut I've ever had. I'm I love with my hair. I've never felt so cute. Lynn is so easy to talk to and I normally have a lot of anxiety when chatting with people I've never met before. I felt like I was talking to a friend. The salon itself is adorable and feels like being home. All of the staff was super friendly and easy to talk to and they have a precious little Spaniel at the salon. I was a loyal client here with Heidi. When she moved, I booked an appointment with the gal she recommended. They ended up cancelling my appointment and couldn't re-book me until the next week (ladies, you know how that can ruin a weekend!). When I (as politely as possible) expressed my frustration, they offered no solutions and no apology other than "well, mistakes happen." I called ahead for prices because I've been jacked before on Glenwood. Not only was I quoted a low price, I recieved a wonderful trim and style from Andrea. She was not only personable, but understanding that I was in desperate need for a hair fix and couldn't spend a lot. She took her time explaining how she would doctor my mane after I showed her a photo of what I wanted, spent a gracious amount of time shampooing and conditioning (mm. head massage.) and gave a wonderful straightening blow-out. The salon itself is cute and chic. You feel pampered and welcome. Great music on their pandora playlist. When the time came to pay, it was UNDER what she'd initially said! I've been getting my hair highlighted since I was 13 and I've had bad jobs before. But it was never something that stressed me out, until I got engaged. I live in Charlotte and I could not find someone that could get me light enough without my hair being streaky. Finally, 3 months before my wedding I tried a new salon in my hometown of Winston Salem. It was a disaster. My hair was super brassy and brown. I cried as soon as she turned the chair around. In a desperate attempt to find someone to fix my hair, I went to Yelp and found Andrea at Salon 21 in Raleigh. What salon has 5/5 stars and she was repeatedly mentioned by name in the reviews. I called her and told her my story. Instead of giving me false promises and offering to dye my hair immediately, she suggested we meet for a consultation and told me she may no be able to fix my hair for 3 weeks because she didn't want to damage it. I immediately appreciated her approach. She was realistic and straightforward and cared about the integrity of my hair. During our consultation, we talked for an hour about what I wanted. I showed her pictures and I could tell she really wanted to get a firm idea of what I wanted. At my appointment 3 weeks later, she put more foils in my hair than I had ever had in the past. She took her time and was meticulous about which pieces she highlighted. In one session, she got me to my perfect shade of blonde. I couldn't believe it!! Some people may think it's crazy to drive 3 hours to get your hair done, but it was 1000% worth it for my big day. Trust me, if you're a blonde see Andrea. She just gets it. read more

This is really a great salon... You will pay a little more than those other places that rent out spaces to stylists, but this place stands behind their stylists. Cleo has been cutting my hair for a year now. She spends a lot of time perfecting the cut when it's wet, and then re cuts it while its dry. I always leave there feeling fabulous. I don't go as often as I should because I just don't have the money but to treat myself every other month. So for dealing with these locks.... She is truly a stylist. read more

I just got my hair cut at Salon 21 by Andrea and it's PERFECT! I have really long thick hair that had been thinned out too much over the course of my last 2 yrs in WA and my hair looked like a 5 yr old got to it. Andrea listened to all of my wishes and concerns, but most impressively she walked me through everything she could do to correct it and make it healthy. She didn't do anything without discussing it with me. She was also really awesome to chat with, hilarious actually. The salon itself is in a cute area with good food nearby. The vibe inside is really cool also, chic with purple accents but not too over the top. I liked the fact the building allowed for a ton of natural light versus all the mood lighting when there's not windows. There's also plenty of product on the shelves, and staff were very friendly. Salon 21 is great! I came in after visiting another salon where the stylist messed up my hair. Cleo was my stylist and did everything she could to fix the other salon's mistakes, but we both agreed something more needed to be done to get it right. She recommended changing the hair style a bit, from longer to shorter, which I had thought about previously. I was a bit nervous, but ultimately decided to cut it shorter. She didn't pressure me into the decision at all. She told me why she thought it might work and then gave me some time to decide. I am so glad I did it! It's the best haircut I have had in years. Cleo did such a good job and I would recommend her to anyone. I went in once more for a trim. Unfortunately, I moved away from Raleigh, so I won't be able to come to this salon anymore. It's got a nice, quiet yet chic atmosphere. I always felt relaxed when I went in, and the staff were super friendly. Looked for a new downtown Raleigh stylist and, after reading the reviews in Yelp, I decided to go to Talia at Salon 21. I am SO glad that I did. I had brought a picture in of a style that I wanted and told her she had artistic license to alter as required. She consulted with me for a few minutes to find out what I was and was not looking for and then told me what my hair would and would not do. We agreed on a style and she went to work. I could not be happier with the outcome. I have very fine, very straight, very limp hair which is difficult to find a style and get a good cut. My hair was hardly a challenge to Talia. I also found making the reservation of great ease and was greeted with warmth when I arrived and throughout my appointment. I have found my new stylist!!! She's quite disagreeable when your not happy, and to add insult to injury she hangs up on you! The shop itself is alright,and the receptionist and Andrea were quite pleasant but if you really want to be sure that you will leave happy the best idea is to go else where. Attended the Marine Corps Birthday Ball in downtown Raleigh. Had my hair done at a place in the mall that totally screwed it up. In a panic I contacted the hotel concierge who located this place with the only opening left to "fix" my hair. Showed up and Talia fixed the mess that she was given. She done a GREAT job with what she had to work with. There was no time to re-wash and the other place had put what felt like a whole can of aqua net on my hair. She was on her way out the door when she got the call to see if they had an opening and she stayed. She was my "hair angel" that day! I was set up with Heidi who gave me the look I exactly asked for, she was kind, pleasant to talk to without being overly chatty. The salon was clean and very comfortable! I went to this salon recently solely on the strength of the yelp reviews. Cleo was not available so I took an appointment with Heidi. I can truly say that the reviews are well earned and deserved. Heidi did a wonderful job on my thin and stringy hair. She even recommended a side bang which added some style and neatness. She also had a couple of suggestions for what to do when I come in next time, if this style turns out to be difficult to maintain. A very good haircut, as good as anything that I got at Elizabeth Arden in New York and DC. The salon itself is very clean and roomy. It was a fun experience. Cleo is amazing! I always get tons of compliments on my haircuts. She might be a little too good because my cuts last a long time! I can go a few months before I have to go back, which is great for my budget and busy schedule.
