I'm giving 2 stars because the 1st cut I had from Carly was great. The 2nd left A LOT to be desired. The 1st time I went, I came in with my hair straightened and Carly decided to do a dry cut (since it was straight) and then wash and style. The 2nd time I went, Carly decided to wash before the cut/style and, while I couldn't tell initially after styling, my hair was terribly uneven when I left. Like in a serious way - pictures attached. I will say that when I texted Carly a photo, she confirmed that was not her intention and offered to try to correct the error. I do appreciate this. I went back in and she was able to "even" it out as best she could given the condition. It wasn't ideal, but I get it. Mistakes happen. I'm now considering going back for a 3rd go, but I am a bit hesitant given my experience. I will update my review if I do return. read more

I went to Carly after i read all the good reviews and checked out the instagram page . If your a first time client getting your hair colored or highlighted , just know that you are required to make an appointment for a consultation . I was actually really happy to do this because it gave me a good idea of what to expect for my appointment and what the overall vibe of the salon was . Carly took a look at all of my pictures of the type of hair that i liked , and booked my appointment for a few weeks out . She gave me a cost estimate at the consultation which i am really grateful for because I've experienced "sticker shock " before at hair appointments , expecting to pay one thing and getting a much higher bill at the end of the service . I will say that the prices listed on the website are very much " starting prices " . My hair service ended up being a corrective color and did take several hours , however Carly explained to me that i will be able to go for several months in between my highlighting services so in my opinion, it was well worth the money and time ! I've been going to Soapbox exclusively since it was first recommended to me about two years ago. I absolutely love the atmosphere- it's comfy, friendly, and they always have drinks available if you choose. Dena is the absolute best! She is easy to talk to, friendly, knowledgeable, and endlessly patient. She has probably answered a hundred hair related questions from me at this point, and my hair has never looked so good in my entire life! I have been going to Liz for cut and color for several years now, and I would (and have) follow her anywhere!!! She is a natural at balayage...my hair is naturally dark brown, and she has given me multidimensional caramel and blond highlights to die for. I literally get compliments weekly! She is also the ONLY one I trust for long layers and any cut for my hair. She is CONSISTENTLY amazing! I was so impressed by the soapbox salon. It's in a quaint area behind Peace College that I very rarely explore. I had never been here. I loved that they had coffee and drinks available. I had an appointment for a haircut with Dena. I have never had a better cut in my life! My hair is extremely long and had quite a few split ends (I'm an impatient brusher :) ). Dena not only got rid of the split ends, but gave the ends the perfect shape. I truly cannot be any more pleased with my experience!! read more

I love the look of this salon and everyone was very friendly. I payed $100, but website says it's $75 for bridal trial. This is alittle confusing to customers! I went ahead and payed the $100 and thinking my makeup will look amazing. My makeup looked great in the studio, but in natural light, it was way too much caked foundation. The powder wasn't even smooth looking around my eyes. I had to wipe most of it off. Also, my fake eye lashes fell off an hour later. I'm sorry, but I won't be back to have makeup done for wedding. I'm glad I had a trial makeup done before my wedding. read more

My 5 yr old wanted 2 single strips of hair dyed for her birthday. Took her over to this new salon and was charged 75 for this service. She guaranteed the color would last atleast a few weeks and it did not. She should have explained the cost before she started. Ripoff. It took her all of 20 mins. She must get 225 per hour at this salon. read more

I have been going to Liz for four years now. I saw a girl in line at Brueggers four years ago and she had such a great cut/color I had to ask her who her hair stylist was. She gave me Liz's name. Liz is great at what she does. She has given me perfect color with really nice dimension, and great long layers at different length/shape depending on the season or when I have been looking for a change. I can always count on Liz for great advice and great cuts/color without fail. She not only listens to what I want but also provides great suggestions that always turn out great. Carly encouraged me to get a keratin treatment, and it has been life changing. My hair has never, ever been so manageable and shiny...and I haven't had to flat iron it in nearly a year. Before keratin, I was blow drying and flat ironing EVERY morning. I cannot say enough about this salon! It has the best and most comfortable atmosphere- it feels trendy and cutting edge with out being over the top! The array of refreshments and good music playing makes you feel so welcomed! My stylist is Liz Gray and I have followed her with every move she's made in the last 10+ years of doing my hair! I was introduced to Carly by a friend that could not say enough about her as to her skills. My friend was absolutely right. Carly was amazing and more. She took the time to listen to me and then gave me an abundance of advice based off of my situation.I have never done well with styling my own hair and never have I loved my haircut. I just moved to Raleigh from New Jersey. Over the years I had a few bad stylists and finally had found someone I loved and trusted in New Jersey. We recently cut my hair very short and I loved the cut so when I knew I was moving I started looking online at reviews for salons in the Raleigh area, worrying what it would be like to find a new stylist. Soapbox Salon stuck out and I started watching the photos of short styles on Facebook and Instagram. I was in the neighborhood yesterday and stopped in and got lucky, Molly, who's short haircut photos I had been admiring, had a spot open. First, everyone at the Salon were very welcoming and I felt comfortable right away. The salon is beautiful, clean, comfortable, very relaxing and in a beautiful neighborhood. MOLLY ROCKS! She discussed my hair and what she thought we should do and was spot on with everything I was hoping for and more. The new style/cut and color, better than ever and I couldn't be happier.
