I absolutely loved my initial experience with Twisted Scizzors! They have a email option on their website, and someone either calls or emails you back within like 15 minutes! When I called to select a new stylist, they explained all about their salon, and the levels and pricing and worked to match me with a stylist. Jessica was fantastic, really listening to me, and giving me exactly what I asked for with my short haircut. It was the best shampoo of my life, with fragrance free shampoo, and the best, most thorough haircut, where she shaped and cleaned up a recent haircut. I was going to this salon for a simple haircut, with the same stylist for over 11 years. When they were allowed to open after the Covid pandemic, they forced everyone to wear masks during their haircuts. I struggle with masks as I have asthma and I feel like I am suffocating while wearing one. I asked my stylist why we had to wear masks when just about every other business was wide open and mask-free. I was told "to make our customers FEEL safe." Personally, I found the mask wearing extremely uncomfortable. That being said, I typically would joke around my stylist but the mask wearing made me more of a quiet person. She asked me if all was ok, to which I replied yes...All is cool, but the mask made me feel like I was suffocating. After about the 6th haircut since reopening. I was told by the stylist (who is also general manager) not to worry about paying and took me outside to discuss how she felt uncomfortable that I was less talkative and what we're going to do about it. I sternly told her to just cancel all my future appointments (I was scheduled for every three weeks for years down the road). I was so pissed that now I needed to worry about her feelings, when she needed to simply cut my hair....That's it. So, this is how I was treated when she had cut my hair for so long. Believe me, she is obviously a liberal mind set and here she was telling me how to act to make her comfortable with me. The whole place is a liberal bastion...The owner is also very liberal. This business is a liberal shit hole. And on top of that, my stylist was not very good and very inconsistent....Often I would ask her to fix something that was wrong with my cut and it was very expensive for a men's haircut. I would not recommend this place, at all, to anyone. I now get my hair cut at a Great Clips down the road from my house for half the price and the lady that I always get is very good and very consistent. This was an opportunity for this salon to redeem themselves after the terrible experience I had over a year ago. FAIL. I asked for an Italian bob. Showed photos. It's all one length with tiny amount of texture. I had tons of hair. Mostly naturally curly. She took off more than preferred, but it wasn't until I got home that I saw just how bad it was. There's now a hole in my hair on the back of my head. It's been chopped to bits, is NOT all one length. The hair on the crown of my head has been butchered. I don't know what is up with Cary and nobody knowing basic haircuts. It's ridiculous. I called the salon and they offered to "fix" it. Cutting off more hair is NOT FIXING IT. That's making a bigger mess. The other thing- if you're a hair stylist and your nose is running? Don't wipe snot on your hands and then handle people's hair. Go blow your nose. That's nasty and unprofessional. Every stylist at every salon show be able to successfully cut bob, pixie, and shag haircuts. BASIC, classic styles. I had so much fun at my appointment with Lexi! I got highlights and a haircut. My hair is pretty long so the appointment took a few hours but I barely even noticed the time because Lexi's so sweet and incredibly gracious. I came in with brassy hair and grown out roots and left with soft, flowing, buttery locks. I already booked my next appointment! They even called the next day to make sure I was happy with my hair. First off I have to issue an apology because I have taken so long to post this review but, like the old saying goes- "Better late than never!" I had such an amazing experience at Twisted Scizzors!! I was so impressed with each and every staff member that I came into contact with, starting with the woman, Amanda, who I believe was the owner/manager who was the person I set up my appointment with initially. She had posted on a group on Facebook that they needed a model for partial highlights and a cut on a client that hadn't done any at-home box color in over a year (I believe). I responded and was chosen even though I warned that my hair may be challenging when I submitted my photo. When I entered the salon I was very impressed by the layout and decor. It was totally my kind of vibe and I was greeted with a warm welcome. I was extremely impressed by the consultation that began as soon as I walked in the door when I was handed a thorough questionnaire asking about my hair care routine, concerns, expectations from the appointment, etc. Then, that's when the magic began! If you saw me before and then ran in to me as I left the salon that day, you probably wouldn't recognize me! I was so happy with the results and extremely impressed with the way the stylists there that day worked as a team and how willing the more experienced stylists jumped in to help and assist the stylist who was working on me by showing her new ways and techniques of doing the kind of color that was being applied to my hair. Ok so 2nd visit! I went back today to get my old highlights (from a different out of town salon) fixed by Linsey and she didn't fail me! On my first visit we just did a shampoo/blowout and we had a conversation about my jacked up highlights and I told her I really wanted to break up the odd chunks of dark and spots in the back and to blend out the hard line in my front highlights. Just left the salon with my 15 year old son and we are not happy. He has or should we say had one of those disheveled messy hair styles that are pretty popular these days. Instructed Matt, the stylist, that we just wanted it cleaned/shaped up a bit but to keep the length. He did a decent job on the top and sides but easily took off inches from the back and when your hair is only a few inches long to begin with that's a lot! No flys away whisps, looks like a clean collar cut which is not what was asked for. Need less to say that it will probably take at least 3 months of hair growth to get back to normal and we will not be back. Also was initially overcharged at checkout. I was quoted $34 when I booked the appointment but was charged $48 at checkout. When I questioned the difference they did correct it and I was charged what was originally quoted. read more

This is not a Deva Cut salon. I went in to get a Deva cut on my long hair with Ashley. I asked that I get less than an inch trim, a little shaping in the mid-section of my hair a some fringe and I have a 00's piecey bob now. The stylist was clearly not using the Deva Cut system, she pulled my hair straight in large sections and cut away. It's taken me two years to grow out an equally bad hair cut and now I'm in for it again. Do not go to this salon if you want a Deva Cut. read more

The make stylist messed it up so bad it was called a granny mohawk when I got it fixed. I waited at least 20 minutes at that appointment to even get seen by the stylist who was just buzzing and shooting the breeze with a prior client instead of keeping on schedule. Cut to tonight. Front desk hosts were super rude and on their phones the entire time. I wired over half an hour past stylist appointment time andleft because I had plans that weren't going super over schedule. A friend of mine referred me to Twisted Scizzors, because we both have 11-year old daughters and my daughter needed a haircut. She mentioned to me that when you get referred you get $20 off your first haircut. She also mentioned that she was also referred to TSS and for her daughter's haircut for $5. I made an appointment on Saturday (5/25) based on this representation. However, the salon charged my 11-year old daughter for a WOMEN's haircut (she literally got her ends cut). When I asked my I wasn't charged for a kids cut like my friend, I was told that it's up to the stylist's discretion. What a shame, because I won't be returning based on this experience. I'll take my business back to Joule, where they offer discounts for teen haircuts. Also, a salon should offer uniform deals across the board. read more

I felt like she listened to my hair needs. I wasn't sure what I wanted but she knew exactly what to do. She gave awesome hair advice and understood my hair troubles. I hadn't cut my hair in a year since the pandemic started and I'm pretty low maintenance. We cut off the dried out ends and she styled it how my hair naturally falls. First off, I am SUPER picky with my haircuts. I went here because my regular place was closed due to COVID. I got put with Mark. I feel like they just gave me him because he didn't have any other clients (I say this because when I looked for reviews on him there were barely any). The haircut was very overpriced for what I got. The haircut was $53 with tip, even though I got a level 1 hair cut, with no styling. My other places charges almost half the price, for a way better cut that is actually styled. It was my first time coming here so I didn't really know what to expect especially while wearing a mask and the protocols due to COVID. Mark did a great job cutting around my mask etc, but unfortunately I will not be coming back here, as I was not super plased with the service as well as the price. read more

This was the only recommendation on the local mom page for a salon that is ASD friendly. Our experience was just awful. When I called to make the appointment I could not have been more clear about my son's issues with haircuts and they assured me that multiple members of their staff were well suited for the task. No and no. I also asked if the time slot we selected would be busy and was assured it wouldn't be. It was pretty busy and people were staring rudely and so obviously that my older son got upset because they were staring at his brother. The stylist didn't even finish the haircut but made sure to charge me full price. I had to straighten out the crooked bangs and sides myself at home. What a horrible experience. Never again. Both times I've been to this salon, they've pulled the 'bait and switch' on me. When I called to get pricing for a perm, I told them in detail what I was looking for, exactly how long my hair was and that I wanted just the dead ends trimmed off after the perm. Once I got it done, suddenly the price became $40+ more than what I was told. The perm was crappy and fell out within 2 days, after I specifically told the stylist that I needed a well-wrapped perm, tight and needed the solution left on at least 10 minutes longer than normal. He seemed to be in a hurry the whole time and wrapped my hair in record time, mainly because he took the easy way out and gave me a piggy back wrap instead of doing it properly. My hair has looked really bad since, with the results of this perm being more like an attempt at dreadlocks. To the point that I decided to get it cut off and eat the exorbitant cost. A different stylist was recommended to me there, so I thought I'd try again, mainly because this salon is the closest to my house. Today I went there and showed at least 3 different pictures to the stylist of how I wanted the wedge 'stacked' cut and platinum blonde color. She informed me that she thought I'd need at least 3 appointments to get the color I want but assured me "it will be blond today". She then colored just the top layer of my hair, when I specifically said I wanted pricing for all over color, and did the wedge cut in like 10 minutes. When she showed me the back, I asked her to bring the stacked part up at least another inch. We'd discussed this cut at length and I expressed to her how I "really like the high stacks in the back". So I was surprised that it looked much more like a bob than a wedge. I was trying to remain calm although at this point, my color was simply highlighted blonde, just on the very top layer of hair and the cut wasn't what I'd showed her, so I'm thinking 'why is this $190???' after I was specifically told on the phone it would be $60 to $70 less than this. I was in a hurry to get home since I was also paying the babysitter to watch my 9 month old, so I just paid it. Then felt bad because I didn't feel I could leave the tip I normally would because the price was so much more than what I was told. AND they tried to charge me 200 when I got up to the desk. I asked to speak to the owner and politely told her I didn't appreciate that both times I've patronized her salon my bill ends up considerably more than what I was quoted. At which point she starts arguing with me telling me that they 'always say the price starts at', then the girl at the desk pipes up with attitude and says she is the one who made my appointment and that is what she said. Except my husband was witness to the call since it was on bluetooth in my car and also heard them tell me 'it would be 120 and no more than 140 for hair my length' AND I was taking notes as the girl told me the pricing which I wrote right next to the appt. I can understand a ballpark within $20-30 even, but the $50-70 hikes I've been taken for once I'm already in the chair and paying for childcare is ridiculous. If they think for a second it may be that much of a range, then they need to be offering free consults before the actual appointment to give customers the correct cost. I told them I'd be writing this review to hopefully save others from their shady pricing not to mention crummy results. Which I really don't appreciate since we have a baby and are trying to buy a house within the next 3 months. That is why I shopped around and asked specific questions about how high the cost might go. The owner didn't even bother to call me and offer me a refund for the difference. What great customer service. Professional they are not. It's obvious you are just a number at this place, and a very big$ one at that. The results I have I could've had from one of the chain salons at 1/4 the cost. On top of all that, I got home, looked at the cut in bright light and realized the entire back left side is totally cut wrong. It looks like she forgot to blend the wedge into the side, so there's this 'corner' angle to the back edge that looks ridiculous. Now I have to go to a friend of a friend to get this fixed today. At least she was super nice and said she'd do it for free (which I won't let her but nice of her to offer) because she always feels bad when people get 'gouged' as she put it. And for $200 with tip, boy do I feel gouged! Bad cut, totally unprofessional people that have no clue what good customer service is. We own a business and never would consider raising our prices 50-70 more than what we quoted. I've already told all my friends and sent pics of the butchered cut and will be spreading the word about this overrated place. Buyer bewared, go elsewhere! read more

After dealing with my daughter's unmanageable locks all summer and fighting with her each morning to only get the brush caught in her tangles, I called Twisted Scizzors out of desperation. The receptionist must have sensed my urgency as she booked my daughter with Clay for the same evening. Earlier in the day, I'd tried a nasty oily treatment on my daughters hair in an attempt to get the tangles out. Instead, it just turned into greasy tangles...and I was afraid Clay would be totally grossed out by her greasy hair. Instead, he just laughed and as he took her into the back, he assured me that he'd wash it before cutting it. Clay was awesome with my daughter as he cut her hair and after he'd been working for a few minutes, I could see the miracle transforming before my eyes. He turned the bird's nest on top of my kid's head into beautiful, flowing soft locks of actual hair...that I could actually comb my fingers through. Her hair is now so silky and smooth...not to mention the cut is great too. He informed me that she had a build up of chlorine from swimming all summer and that's something they were able to take care of. Good to know! Guess who we'll be visiting each summer?!?! Kids cut came to $25 plus a tip. I'd been to two other salons and they acted like they were scared to cut her long hair. We left those salons with the same terrible hair we went in with. Clay's pricing was very reasonable, especially considering he performed nothing less than a miracle. The salon itself isn't overly impressive or fancy. In a strip mall next to a grocery store...but if you're looking for a great cut, this is the place to go. I'm pretty sure we've found our new go-to hair dresser! Thanks, Clay! I got my hair cut by Lindsay several months ago. I have curly hair but opted for a regular (not diva) cut because I wear my hair straight a few times during the month. The haircut looked good, not great, when styled straight. When I wore it curly, I looked like a bell. I fixed it myself but decided to give the salon another chance so I made another appointment several months later. I called today because I was considering adding color and keratin services. It was understandable that Lindsay didn't have the time slot available and I was willing to change my appointment with her to allow for more time. This was my first time with Keratin so I had lots of questions regarding price and products used. I felt so rushed by Stacey, the receptionist that I called back and canceled the appointment altogether. I live in Durham and let me tell you, the drive to Cary is WORTH it. Morgan listened to what I currently do with my hair and my hair goals. She transformed my hair from a pile of curls on my head to an actual style (I have short hair). She didn't push a bunch of products on me when I told her I use very little in my hair and gave me recommendations based on what I currently do and how much time I currently spend. I had an issue with how my hair turned out one time (seeing a stylist who is no longer there anymore) and I was extremely upset but Ashley R., the manager, and owner were all there to help me figure out how to fix it. Gave me attention to detail service and she was very friendly and accommodating, since it was my first time she educated me what other services they offer.
