I really enjoyed my time in the stylists chair as she was very nice and super communicable. I'm not one to speak out because I don't want to hurt feelings and I'm not good with confrontation but this cut was awful... I paid almost $400 (over that if you include tip) to have my hair cut and a get a full balayage to blonde. That didn't happen. There must have been a misunderstanding, because the price was way higher than I expected and the outcome was still brown hair. The haircut wasn't short enough, but when my stylist asked about the length and I said it looked too long, she said "I took off length, you can check the ground if you want." She then said it would be shorter dry...it was not. I called them a couple days later to ask about it. But they were very defensive and not very nice. read more

Booked this place with perfect timing so that I could have my hair cut before my wedding hair test run. They called me 25 minutes before my appointment when I was on my way, to tell me my hair stylist was too busy with another appointment to see me. I explained that I am leaving in two days and need my hair cut for the trip (I am getting married in Mexico City). She informed me there is nothing she can do, there is no one to cut my hair. She told me that they had tried to call to confirm my appointment earlier in the week. This may be true but I have no record of it. I have a reminder text from yesterday with no option to confirm. I have not had much experience w/ Joule Salon. I went here 2 or 3 times and had good experiences, unfortunately, this is my last visit due to poor business practices and dependability. I booked an appointment for my daughter for a cut and balayage for her first school dance. She was super excited and had her first date for the dance. I had the appointment scheduled for about 2-3 weeks and on the DAY OF her appointment the salon owner, Lisa called me to advise that due to an error on their part, the appointment was booked incorrectly and they needed to cancel it. Her dance was in 3 days, which I explained to the owner. The owner, Lisa offered a few options which entailed, the availability of a haircut only before the dance or I could pay more for someone else to do what I scheduled before the dance or she could have the full service on Monday for the price point agreed upon, which was after the dance. I feel the best business practice would have been to honor the price being they had the availability of a stylist to perform what was scheduled before the dance at the price agreed upon. That would have been the right thing to do. I understand businesses make mistakes, but they did not make this right because what was offered was not going to resolve the mistake that they made. They left me calling tons of salons at the last minute trying to get an appointment for the services I promised my daughter before her dance. Of course, I couldn't get anything on such short notice and had to subject myself to requesting the opening with Joule Salon with the higher-level stylist they had available to obtain the services my daughter desired before the dance. I couldn't even go with her because I was so irritated at this place of business for what they did. Joule Salon wronged me and profited off it! To add insult to injury, her hair did not turn out as she requested. She came home very disappointed. Now I have to pay again to fix their mess. Imagine if this was my daughter's PROM and they did this. I would be livid. I would never trust Joule Salon with any special events or give them my business ever again. I have been going to Joule Salon for 5 years now and have never been disappointed! Overall, I love the interior set up, style, and music, it really sets the atmosphere! Lisa the owner is SUPER sweet and accommodating wherever she can be. All the other girls are really genuine and welcoming every time I come in for an appointment. Sam is my go-to stylist and she is AWESOME! She has a lot of patience and understanding when I ask questions about certain products to maintenance my blond highlights. She always provides great suggestions on how to care for my hair and how often to use certain products in order to protect the color and health. LERA did my hair- I give 1 star for the stylist!! So sad to see this when you expected to walk out with your roots touched up blonde and you get this... when I booked this I clearly asked for someone experienced in blondes. I didn't care how long I had to wait just wanted someone with experience. I was booked with, what I come to find out a new stylist. I showed her my hair styles I've had in the past two years wanting to keep dimensions and my blonde. She seemed to understand. But walks away asking for advice from fellow stylists. I became incredibly concerned & I even called the front desk lady to ask if she knows how to do blonde hair. She reassured me she did. Throughout the whole process the stylist continued to ask for advice from her peers. Not once though did a stylist come over to see my hair & realize how porous it is. My stylist said "you had too high of expectations"... really? Well tell me that before you start & ruin my hair. I regret tipping her but I know the beauty industry has been closed for sometime. So it was out of ch I'm already loosing my hair post pregnancy and now I have to go back to get this ugly what looks like box color fixed and loose more hair along the way. I give 4 stars to the owner who jumped in and helped me through my emotional breakdown. But I know "beauty is from within". I left with no advice on how to care for it-I left in a state of shock. Update: in the end, I went to a different salon to have it corrected as much as they could. She had to use a clarifying soap cap to remove the horrible toner that was put in which removed my Brazilian blowout that I had done at a previous salon. I made a last second reservation here for a cut and color after my husband surprised me with a birthday "spa day" that included getting my hair done. I found this place based off of yelp recommendations and it did not disappoint! The salon is in a nice area in Cary, and is very well-kept and nice to be in. I had Lauren, and she was fabulous. Very friendly and welcoming and was very smart and knowledgeable with what I wanted to do with my hair. She color matched me perfectly and was able to dye my hair, cover my stubborn grays, and give me a perfect long bob. I was very happy with the Covid procedures they have in place and the distancing and safety. I just received the worst haircut of my life from Kelly. My wedding is in 5 months and she just chopped off all my hair. The salon offers very inexpensive haircuts, which is nice, but it's not worth the rushed job they will do. I booked appointments for myself and my husband online for the same day. My husband's appointment was at 12:45 and mine was at 1:00pm. Kelly did not like that and felt that it was not enough time. I said that I would be happy to come back later if she felt we didn't have enough time. However, she said that she could just do us both at the same time. This was the first red flag, and I wish I had just left then. Please note we did arrive early and she started the appointment at 12:25, instead of 12:45 so I do not understand the mad rush she was in. I've never had such an unprofessional experience at a hair salon. Kelly in her frantic state was asking what I wanted whilst attending to my husband. Again, very strange. Why can't we just go one at a time so we could have her full focus. I told her that I needed 2-3 inches trimmed off, since I haven't had a haircut in 3 months due to my move from London to the states. In mid-sentence she just chopped off my hair in one fell swoop, dry! I was stunned. Most hairdressers show you what they plan to cut off, and get you to confirm it's OK before cutting. Not Kelly, she clearly did not have time for that. After chopping off whatever length she felt like (4-5 inches?), she then had me go back to the waiting area. So that was a jarring experience in itself. Once she was ready for me again, I went back to her chair and told her very politely this was too short, so please do not take any more length off. I went in just wanting a few inches cut off and my layers tidied up. Instead she gave me the Rachel haircut from the 90's! I didn't want to be rude or make a scene, so I paid my bill and even gave a tip, but I have to warn others. I wish I had received the same warning. This is not a high-end salon. This is like one of those places where you walk-in to get a quick haircut without an appointment. It's cheap and quick, but that was not the experience I was looking for. I am still in disbelief with what happened. I am looking at the picture I showed her and I have no idea how she got this haircut from that image? She could have even just done a trim based on my current cut if she felt confused.  I am absolutely devastated that she ruined my hair - I can't even get it in a bun anymore. I had no idea Kelly would do such a rushed, sloppy job, and absolutely not listen to what I asked for. If I could give them less than one star I would. Luckily hair grows back, and I hope mine does, very quickly. I learned a hard lesson, and I hope I am able to help others not repeat my mistake. read more

Have been coming to this salon for about six months...wanted to share last night's experience. I only get my roots done and as you can see from pic they let me leave without acknowledging that a spot right up front was missed. The stylist missed it - the girl that washed my hair missed it. Not sure how it could've happened since the spot was right up front. Ok no problem I call today to explain and have it fixed. Schedule conflicts on both sides would have me waiting 3 days before I can get in...but the reason this salon has lost my business is when I asked how can both the stylist and the washer could let me leave like this without acknowledging the oops - I was told that's an "assumption" on my part that they saw it. When the salon I had been taking my daughter to for the past several years started charging $65 to have her hair cut following her 12th birthday, I searched for a new salon! It seemed crazy to spend the same amount on my kid's haircut that I would spend on my own hair. They care more about money than their pregnant customers. The night before my 8am appointment for a full balayage, I found out that I am 5 weeks PREGNANT. I called and left a message letting them know and called first thing in the morning before they opened to reschedule to a later date when it's considered safer during the pregnancy. Everything seemed fine and I was told the $100 deposit would transfer to my new appointment. FOUR hours later, I get a call from the owner. She tells me they are keeping the deposit because I cancelled in less than 48 hours. At first, I was annoyed, but said it's ok since that's the rule and they told me from the beginning. After some thought, I realized that was pretty horrible of them since it's medically recommended that pregnant women not dye their hair during the 1st trimester. I wasn't going to risk the safety of my baby and by keeping the $100 deposit, that tells me they care more about money than their customers and customers' well-being. I cancelled my appointment and won't be returning. Do they keep $100 deposits if a customer found out they had COVID and had to cancel in less than 48 hours? I would hope not because I would think they would want to keep their staff and other customers safe... but what about their pregnant customers? I would've thought they'd have more understanding and sympathy as women for a fellow woman. EDIT: Lisa, out of 3 appointments in the past year, this was my first and only cancellation. When you called back, you told me you were keeping the deposit, not transferring it to my new appointment. read more

I moved here from New Jersey to North Carolina 2 years ago and finding a great hairdresser for my hair is very tough considering I have thick coarse long hair. Im glad I finally found an awesome place. I had Alex Phillips and I will forever go to her as long as I live in North Carolina. Alex Phillips is not most hairdressers. She spent 20 minutes listening and giving me advise as what to do with my hair! She did a partial balayage and I couldn't be more happy with my hair. I love Joule. After 2 years searching, I finally found a hairdresser I loved while living in Florida, and then she moved and I had to replace her. I lucked out and found another hairdresser I loved, and then my husband and I moved to NC. I was super nervous to start over with a hairdresser again, and had already gone to two hairdressers in NC I was unhappy with when I found Joule. My hairdresser is Meredith and I really enjoy going to get my hair done with her. She is super friendly and listens to what you want. She has taken great care of my hair and I feel comfortable taking her advice/suggestions when I need them. I wanted to love this salon. Somehow, I could not make it work for me. I saw Meredith several times for color (gray hair coverage) and haircuts. Meredith seemed to have almost an attitude of "blaming". No matter how I tried to communicate with her, I felt like I had to metaphorically "arm wrestle" with her to work well with me. I should NOT have returned to her after the first time. (My "bad".) The third or 4th time, Meredith burned my head with the blow dryer and was not particularly apologetic. It HURT! A lot. SO, I went to see "Madison" next. I show up ON TIME, and the owner comes to the front door to tell me that Madison had car trouble and was not even there. I would like to know: Why did they not bother to call me and inform me? Like most women, I actually DO have numerous things to do (always!!). The owner seems nice, but I do not feel she is in any way truly interested in accommodating my needs as a client). Sadly, I will not be returning to this salon. Too many stylists just don't take men's hair seriously, and don't listen to what I want but just dive in and barber (butcher) it up. Over time, I have been under a lot of scissors, and now have been going to Joule for several months. Sarah cuts my hair and she takes men's hair seriously. And, she listens attentively to try to figure out what I am babbling about when I am trying to tell her what I want. Pricing is very fair. I had Lauren as a stylist. Did not talk much, was very dry. I paid $125 for a "fill in" and all over cover. No hair cut, no blow dry and style. I was able to schedule a same-day appointment for a cut with a wonderful stylist named Julia. Sadly, she is leaving the area, but because of the fabulous service she provided I just have to leave a review. She perfectly duplicated a photo of a previous haircut I loved and not only did she hit it right on the nail, but she was so sweet and a genuinely wonderful stylist to spend time with. We chatted easily throughout my appointment and I felt very comfortable with her. The two receptionists I spoke with were also very kind.
