The security/bouncer was really rude to people walking by. As we were about to go in the pub, the bouncers made ridiculously smart remarks toward me and both of the girls that were with me. GO for the rooftop bar/dance floor, no cover, $3.50 well drinks, a DJ who manages to throw down some cool hip-hop, 90's and house music. DON'T GO if you don't like skanks high on E in their cut-off shorts and t-shirt rags humping the stage, humping every male patron in plain view (even the occasional businessman in town for a convention) and even stripteasing the DJ! now you know what kinda crowd this bar attracts (but I'm sure it's not like THAT all the time, right?) you can decide if you want to stay and see what happens. Hello Austin! Dive Bar Diva is back! Wow, The Blind Pig Pub is categorized as a dive bar? Heehaw, I'm all over this one. My SW trip over Halloween weekend seems so long ago, and I'm having withdrawals. How do I best cope with those feelings? Write a Yelp, of course - my first Austin one, in fact. This is the first dive bar with a rooftop that I've ever been to, and you know what? It's also my favorite. Yup, it most certainly is. My girl, JZ, and I loved BPP so much that we went not once, but twice in the same weekend. There's no cover charge, digalicious beats by the DJ, and by golly, cheap arse drinks! Did I mention cheap? Two vodka drinks under $10!! Oh Mylanta! As if it couldn't get any better, the drinks were served by hottie hot bartenders! Awyah baby! HOT! I overheard someone telling a hottie bartender, "You're beautiful, you know that?" Fabulous people watching to be done here especially on the roof with the BPP crowd, and even looking down below at the revelers on 6th Street. It was absolute mayhem on Halloween night as the two private school girls (ahem ahem) made their presence known. Gotta love making friends with the University students from Spain, Doctors from Miami, Football players from San Antonio, and Jesus (but isn't he a friend to all, anyway)? Dirty 6th how I loathe and like you all at the same time. I have been to the Blind Pig Pub many times throughout my bar crawls of 6th. It's a solid place to stop for a drink. I should forewarn this post by saying 6th street is only fun during the week. Otherwise the dirty 6th is a bad version of Bourbon St that doesn't make you wanna walk in anywhere. However, on slow nights the bartenders at Blind Pig play a game with the boys over at chugging monkey. If you're a good looking, good tipping, out of towner you may be lucky enough to get the pickle of the night. The pickle will probably get you a few free shots and discounts at the other bar & make for a great conversation starter. If you find yourself on Dirty Sixth Street you're likely there for a reason. If that reason is live music and drinks, you found the right spot. Blind Pig is spacious - the big reason I give it four stars. Even on a weekend evening it never felt overly crowded. There are tons of places to hang out, multiple bars, and the best part - a rooftop complete with views of Sixth Street. The rooftop is great for watching the madness below. Drinks are basic bar drinks. Nothing fancy. But the bartenders were always nice and kind. When a group of rude and rowdy college guys cut in front of me at the bar the bartender was nice enough to ask them to step aside and acknowledge me. Needless to say, he got a nice tip. Live music was nice. We danced, hung out, and just overall enjoyed ourselves. Great spot! read more

We love the pig! We love that they welcome West Virginia in with open arms when we travel for the football game. It feels like home away from home. The bar is nothing fancy or crazy but has everything anyone needs...alcohol and great bartenders. I love the open air to it. Bathrooms in the basement and one on first floor are janky as fuck but they're bar bathrooms so just piss & shut up. Everyone who works there were so nice to me and my group of girl friends. This is an Unfair Review. I visited Blind Pig Pub on a rainy Monday night. * * * Anything Sixth Street on a rainy Monday night is going to be a forlorn affair. Anyone with an ounce of sense (or with a job) is home. The only people out are: a subset of tourists, a handful of drifters, and a couple of party-hearty boys who would be hearty-partying even in the middle of Zombie Apocalypse. * * * When you are on Sixth Street, one of the ways you judge bars is the crowd. On a normal night, who would be next to you having a good time? Are you surrounded by sexy alt-cool lesbians in leather? At 11:30, did you get swarmed by the sorority crowd in their black cocktail dresses? Has your luck run out and you've pulled all conventioneers? Or are you looking at the dregs of the male gender looking to lick a shot off a working girl's belly button? * * * Or maybe you have found a better place. Does everyone around you seem really artistic? Are they friends of the band - working on their solo projects at home? How cool you think the crowd is determines how much you can relax and unwind in a place. I can really cut loose on Red River. I am often creeped out on West Sixth Street. * * * Well, I can't tell you what the crowd is like at Blind Pig - although rumor has it - it is a frat crowd not unlike that at the Bat Bar. But I CAN tell you about the facilities. The facilities are pretty nice ... nicer in fact than a lot of competing places on the block. The place is huge, with a middle sized downstairs and a massive open air upstairs. Upstairs is where the action is at. Everything is covered by a huge roof. The place is kept cool by fans bigger than you would use to test jet wings in a aerodynamic wind tunnel. On the rainy night I was there, the fans kept things freezing. But make it a 95 degree night and fill the place with 30,000 undergraduates, and those fans would be damn welcome. There are multiple bars, especially upstairs, reducing the amount of traffic jam you have to fight through to get your drink. There is enough room in the club for two bands. There are TVs everywhere with a mix of sports and movies. (I watched the last third of Inglourious Bastards and was happy to do so.) They have the normal run of bottles at the bar. * * * The night I was there, they booked "The Eleventh Pestilence" to play downstairs. No, the "Eleventh Pestilence" is not a metal band. It was simply a folk singer whose material was putrid. Worse - he was amplified. This made being on the ground floor intolerable. Fortunately, they have two floors and upstairs was pretty nice. And I couldn't hear a single note from you-know-who. My drink was well mixed and well priced. They had bar games. There was a spectacular view of Sixth Street for people watching. Upstairs, they had two to three people looking spectacular in their dating clothes. I am guessing on a Friday and Saturday night, the dating clothes population goes up. * * * How is the Blind Pig overall? A lot might depend on the quality of the band they book upstairs. With the right music this place could be heaven. With the wrong music, it could be hell. But its big enough and varied enough that you can probably find some corner where you can do what you want to do and look at whatever you want to look at or listen to whatever you want to listen to. There are only a few venues that I frequent on 6th and usually they are before sunset except of course for Steve's Irish bar. On Saturdays Joe Vega plays downstairs at the pig and he is as my buddy states "bad ass". Joe has a play list a mile long and for a gratuity Joe plays your song. Joe will add his own original verse or two to a song and it is usually R rated and leave you laughing. As Joe states don't be all flash and no cash toss a few bucks in the tip jar and have fun. My husband and I went out Sunday night (7/30) and against my better judgement I wanted to try this place and step outside the box. As soon as we go in the Door man were giving my husband the stare down as if he was a criminal of some sort. We ignored that and walked up to the downstairs bar and ordered 2 shots of Jack Daniels. After paying $10 for each and taking the shot I politely ask for a small cup of water and the bartender surprisingly and rudely said " CAN I HAVE MY TIP?!" We were blown away how rude he was and how he assumed we weren't going to give him a tip (like we did the other bartenders throughout the night) but when we said are you serious he tells my husband and I to "get outta her then" We were the only black customers in the bar and when I realized this it all made sense. This is my (new) favorite bar in Austin. If you are into the live (cover) music scene in Austin - this place is banging! This is one of the best Creed bars in town where it's all Creed, all the time during happy hour. The other good music they play is Dido and occasionally Train (if you're lucky). The other part about the bar I like is the Deep Eddy lemon vodka and Sprite. No one can make it like these guys - it's the perfect pour, in a nice plastic cup, and a plastic straw (don't come here if you're on team #metalstraw). Blind Pig is also home to two stories (aka stairs) which is nice and will remind you of a home - which is exactly what Blind Pig is, a home where you can take your shirt off, kick off your shoes, and relax with some Creed in the background Make sure you go to Happy Hour Wed - Sun if you want to try and hang out with the dude bartenders. read more

Absolutely TERRIBLE. Came to this bar a few times during my vacation and this past night my family and I were served at 1:55am when they're closed at 2am where we were pushed out of the door and I was assaulted where the bouncer PUSHED me and grabbed my drink out of my hand when I did nothing to provoke security. Because of this, my brother was upset and yelled at the bouncer where he PUSHED my brother as well for no reason intended (legal action will be taken) and kicked us out. Absolutely HORRIBLE experience after loving this place the past few days and completely violated as a woman who was pushed and degraded coming out of this place. Rumor has it that the weekends are crazy with frat boys looking to get their drink on. Lucky for us, we we went on a Tuesday, so it wasn't too busy and they had live music going on upstairs and down for anyone that cared to listen. Upstairs was a reggae, surf-rock group that did covers in that kind of style. Not keen on that type of music, but I did like trying to figure what song they were actually covering. Downstairs was more of a jam-sesh type, and was definitely a little bit more of a rowdy crowd. For drinks, they're cheap. Ordered our group a round that consisted of two beers, a Jameson and ginger, a glass of wine, and a vodka soda. All this goodness came out to a tab of $20 and I couldn't have been happier. Since the upstairs is outside, it was a great way to spend a cool Austin night with friends. Though we didn't play, patrons took their giant Jenga seriously as cheers and screams would frequently erupt as the big wooden blocks began to tumble. Weekdays, however, on a nice night with a solid group of friends (especially out-of-towners), drop in to Blind Pig Pub for live tunes upstairs, cheap drinks and many photo ops with their multiple Austin murals. You can def tell by the weekday crowd the demo tends to skew a bit older, a lot more "convention"-ey type ... like the folks in town for a conference just dying to get out and play giant Jenga. BTW, the giant Jenga gets really loud and annoying at Blind Pig Pub - and anywhere else for that matter. Again, drinks were cheap, barkeep was cool (and cute), and the wine wasn't bad. This place is like 2 different bars in one. It's got live music, more relaxed hipster vibe going on downstairs, and top 40/upbeat/sometimes 80's/disco music going on upstairs. I didn't spend much time downstairs, it was my birthday, and the bartender made me really bright fruity drinks. I have no idea what they were (really you expect me to remember these things? The fact that I even remember I was at this bar is an accomplishment in itself!) One of them was bright blue and huge, looked like an AMF, but it was super sweet. So sweet, actually, that even this girly-drink lover couldn't finish it. It just made me want to pee every other sip. Other than that, the bartenders are cool, the upstairs patio is awesome. Definitely worth a stop just to hang out on the rooftop. On our weeknight an acoustic duo was playing, so with the great temperatures it made for a perfect place to chill and have a few drinks. The Blind Pig Pub is a two-story dive bar on the busy 6th Street complete with a rooftop bar. You'll find loud music to be playing or perhaps a live band and you can play a game of Jenga while enjoying the rowdy festivities. One of my friends described this place as "frat friendly" which is definitely the vibe I got as well. I was definitely older than the average demographic who frequent here, but that did not deter me. Drinks are good, bartenders were nice and the atmosphere is fun. I think if you take it for what it is you'll have a good time. I always have a good time coming here. This place has so much space! I love being able to choose to either stay inside downstairs, or going upstairs to the covered rooftop bar. Plenty of music options from upstairs and downstairs. They typically have a live band upstairs that are pretty good. Huge dance space to get your groove on. Descent looking bathrooms that don't typically smell. Plenty of bartenders to get your drinks from. In the summertime they have huge fans upstairs, which is very important here in Austin. So you aren't melting your makeup off while trying to dance! read more
