I was drawn in by the live band I could hear playing on the patio. I hit the bar downstairs first for a draft cider then found out they were out! I don't drink beer, I drink cider. I was really disappointed. The bartender gave me a sample of Shiner Blonde to try and I decided to give it a true to and get a pint. Beer in hand, we scored a seat up front to see Ben Cena. This kid has some serious pipes! The way he and his band did variations of 90's music was unreal. I never thought I could hear a remixed Montel Jordan followed by Damien Rice. I was disappointed when some employees came through and said that it was getting too crowded so they were taking away the tables and chairs. This bar robbed us. After barhopping a bit, we came to The Blind Pig. Someone in the group wanted to play a video game in the back, so he put in the cash, the video game didn't work. We were nice about it, asked for a couple of extra drinks for compensation (there was 6 of us all together, and all we wanted was four dollars in drinks to balance out what the game stole from us). Instead of being good about it, or even just giving back our cash, they caught an attitude, surrounded us, and threatened us. This was after we dropped over $50 in their establishment. The management is poor, they have an attitude, and they don't listen to their customers. If you want a really good time, go to the Jackalope or even the Casino El Camino at the end of the strip. Solid place right on 6th with 2 floors and lots of space, they had a crawfish boil there last saturday. The biggest benefit is all the space, you may have to stand but it can hold a lot of people, I've been there 3 times now when visiting Austin. It always is a solid time. Per recommendation of all of my UT Austin alum friends, the Blind Pig Pub is a must visit on 6th Street on a weekend. The seeming chaos of this bar is part of the fun. Probably the divey aspect of it to the live music to the cheap drinks makes it seem all too much fun. Upon walking into the Blind Pig Pub, there is the upstairs that you can automatically go for that has the rooftop area. There was live music, the mural on the wall, and a space for people to get their groove on. There's actually plenty of space here for people to mingle and hang out. Looking over onto Sixth Street, you're able to enjoy the people watching and seeing how time passes with everybody walking to their next fun destination! read more

The bouncers are incredibly rude. The man in the picture was disrespectful to me and my friends. He was calling me offensive names like "fat" and had an extremely insolent attitude, telling us to go to other bars when I simply had a question about the dress code. Used to love going here for the music but the uninviting atmosphere was repulsive. I'm letting everyone know. Completely ruined my night because of his animosity and lack of professionalism. Okay Ya'll this is going to be long but its important. This bar has been reported to the proper channels for not following State ordered mandates from our government regarding Covid-19. I myself am among one of the ones who reported and this is why..... I will start off by saying I fully support people still going out and trying to live a somewhat normal life. Which is why I myself do. I do however feel that it is vital for everyone's safety that we all do our part to stop the spread of this deadly virus. We can do this simply..... Stay 6 feet away from people outside your household. Wash your hands Sanitize surfaces frequently before and after use Wear your mask Its not hard. It can be frustrating and obnoxious but this is life now. My fiance and I took an overnight trip to Austin as we had both never been we are new to Texas and we wanted to get out. So we went to dinner and decided to walk down the very lively street this bar is on. We were wearing our masks staying apart from strangers thoroughly enjoying ourselves when we happened past Blind Pig Pub. The door man at that time stopped us and told us we should check it out. So we did. We went inside the staff was wearing their masks, tables were being sanitized and were placed appropriately apart so as not to interact with others in an unsafe manner. They were still serving AT the bar which is not supposed to be happening but it wasn't super busy so it didn't seem to be an issue. We find a table upstairs where they are playing live music. Our table was small maybe 2 or 3 feet wide just enough for 2 people. It was also placed out of the way and far from others it was nice. We sat and enjoyed the music and the people watching and were having a great time. The bar by this point was at capacity there were NO open tables and I assumed they were limiting patrons as they should be during a pandemic but boy was I wrong. After about 1 maybe 2 hours we were approached by one of the staff members followed by an unknown couple and were told they were going to be sitting with us. I politely declined stating that the table was not a safe width for us to be sharing especially since masks were not being required while sitting. I even pointed out that their POSTED rules were to socially distance yourself from others. I said we were not comfortable being seated with strangers. The staff member said he would go find a manager. To which the manager said if we didn't like it we were free to leave. This upset us we were enjoying ourselves we had purchased drinks we did nothing wrong this really couldn't be happening......it was. I then went downstairs to the main bar and again asked to speak with a manager to explain to him what was happening upstairs and informing them that what they were doing was in DIRECT violation of the mandate. This "manager" proceeded to tell my fiance and I that they were not allowing only two people per table. Regardless of who got there first..... that they were "just too full" to be limiting seating in that way. I was appalled and because of this I have filed a complaint with the city of Austin. This bar is in violation of safety standards regarding what is happening in the world and needs a wake up call. This virus is not something to joke about and should most definitely not be taken lightly like this. I was more disappointed in the fact that the staff this night seemed more worried about the bottom line than keeping their patrons safe.... that is shameful and deplorable. I hope the owner of this establishment reads this and does something before the state steps in and takes action that way. If they were to follow the rules as they are stated then maybe more bars could open. But its places like this that will keep the country shut down for months to come. We will not visit this place if we find ourselves in Austin again, and I hope that you out there reading this stay safe and avoid places like this that care more about money than they do lives. read more

Oh sixth street, you silly silly place. I've been to blind pig more than most of the dirty sixth bars though it's just an average bar. Here's the skinny: -- Drinks are cheap -- Huge rooftop bar -- Relatively attractive bartenders -- No cover -- Two floors of live music (usually cover bands) Great for a lot of other cities but in Austin it's just A OK. Shoutout to Joe Vega who plays downstairs consistently doing crowd pleasing covers -- everything from Coldplay to Tom Petty. I have been to Blind Pig on numerous occasions and have never been very impressed with their drink selection and prices. The last time I went here, I ordered a drink that the bartender did not know how to make and so he chose to ignore me for the next 15+ minutes while serving other patrons. Finally when I got his attention again to mention that he had not yet served me, the bartender verbally and physically assaulted me calling me drunk and threatening to fight me. He and his buddy then proceeded to attack me and drag me down the stairs while I was facing backwards. They intentionally ripped my shirt and bruised my arm. I was never asked to leave or given the option to leave on my own accord, which is the stated policy from bar owner, Bob Woody. I tried to speak with management/the owner regarding this incident and have been lied to and ignored. One of the bartenders tried to tell me that HE was the owner when I attempted to find out who was in charge. I would stay away from any business owned by Bob Woody as it seems that he promotes a culture of violence amongst his employees and does not hold them accountable for anything they do. The Blind Pig always has a good crowd and something fun going on. Joe Vega is a staple here and has been rocking this place forever, combine his music with the best outdoor patio in town and you have a pretty popular place. LOCATION and BUILDING: Located right in the middle of Sixth Street this place is a good starting or ending point for any night. The bar is decent size but can get a little crowded when the big crowds roll in. The upstairs bar is huge and draws an even bigger crowd than downstairs. They could use some additional bathrooms and a stall would be nice. MUSIC: I have heard a ton of different types of music here, from country bands to sublime cover bands and everything in between. Joe Vega is still the best thing to happen to this place and maybe to Sixth Street in general, he plays a great show, takes requests and even lets the drunks sing a long every now and then. DRINKS: Drinks are poured well, poured quick and a priced great. The bartenders here are super friendly, professional and they are great to party with. Came here late on Saturday for a drink after dinner. Went upstairs and it was empty and cold. Downstairs, ordered two drinks - both served in plastic cups and mediocre at best. There was a live musician on the guitar downstairs who was incredible!!! We only caught his last 3-4 songs but he was outstanding and the highlight of the bar. I always seem to end up here during SXSW and certainly appreciate the roof top stage and bar area which offers up a great space to enjoy shows. Great flow throughout the venue itself and the sound engineers are top notch. What is not so cool is the leering and inappropriate bartender downstairs (older/heavier set fella) who not once, not twice, but three times made inappropriate comments and gestures to me and about me. Don't get me wrong, I can handle a cat call and come-on line like the next broad but this guy is a bit much. His attitude and presence just irks me out motivates me to leave immediately after the bands that I am there to see are done with their set. read more

By 2am, I had a better idea about the 6th street:-D It really doesn't matter how old and beat up the bar is......if it's got booze and roof top, it's packed. For some reason, there is no live music here (what happened to the live music capital?) But they do have a large and packed roof top. Ended up dancing away most of the night here. Fantastic bar. Loved the upstairs patio in the open air, whenever I can be outside and enjoying good music, good drinks, and good friends, I am there. The crowd was great, too, young and fun and out to have a good time. We stayed right on through til the very end, which was a problem after as we tried to get a cab after and it was pretty miserable. I love the Blind Pig Pub. I live nearly forty blocks away, but thanks to the orientation of the speakers on the upper deck, when the wind is just right, it turns my living room and bedroom into the Blind Pig Pub Annex. I really thought by living such a long way from the entertainment district would mean that I'd no longer hear live music on the weekends and odd weekday nights. What a happy day to find that I was mistaken! Now I can rock out in the privacy of my own home all the way until the early morning hours of 2AM! read more

Dirty Sixth isn't much on my radar anymore, what with not being in my 20's. I usually only make it over there to hit a show at the Drafthouse. We went for a send off party for a friend who's moving out of town. Blind Pig is much like the other bars on East Sixth -- but Joe Vega earns an extra star. He plays some fun covers, and will often mix in some of his own lyrics, which were pretty funny when I was actually paying attention. We stayed downstairs, had room to dance, and easy access to the bar. The $4 Shiner in cans was a bit much. read more

I picked up a crew of fellas last night in from out of town for a bachelors party in our City, one of them was denied entrance to this venue because of the shoes he was wearing ( a brand new pair of Nike Jordan's ) Even though one of the bouncers at the door was black this sure seems like racial profiling to me... I now have read other postings stating the same thing... This is a sad statement for our fair city. The fellow denied entrance was black, the others were not, but he was the only one wearing Jordans. I paid more for a can of bud light here than I did for a bottle of bud light at 219 west. Besides the fact that a collegey divey bar should NEVER charge more than a grown up trendy bar with real food and real containers to hold its beverages, I do love blind pig. For one, the rooftop. After being segregated from all the normal folk as a smoker, its nice to light up a cancer stick and exhale without caution. F.U healthy non-smokers, this camel's for you. Also, the plethora of young but legal men that serve for some very nice eye candy are an added plus. When I wanna go dance and drink my face off...this is where I go. They have an upper outdoor patio which is ALWAYS a bonus. During this time of year when it's a bit rainy...they put a tarp up keeping you and your drinks dry. Every time I've gone, the DJ has been playing a good selection of music, the drinks are always made well (bartenders are HOT) and I've always had a good time. Through out the night, the break dancers will bust out...always fun to watch. And my favorite...people watching. There's a good mix of people here...dress how you want, drink how you want, dance how you want...just be....and have a good time doing it! read more

It's hard to know which 6th street bar to visit with a bevy of live music blasting and drink specials being yelled on the sidewalk. On a warm night in the winter, the live music blasting from the open air roof terrace of Blind Pig called us in. Downstairs is a bar with a decent amount of seating, a few arcade games, and a pretty solid selection of beer. Upstairs is the expansive terrace with a stage, another bar, and a few tables. While the band played 70s hits, we got a round of Austin craft beers and played giant Jenga on a table. The arcade games, especially Mario Kart were also a blast. I used to really like going to this bar, has a nice roof top patio with a good view of downtown and the drinks are pretty decent. I used to go a couple times a month. However, I will not be returning here. After going here on Mardi Gras weekend the bartender took the liberty of changing my tip after I left, giving himself an additional ten dollars and altering my receipt. That is stealing from your customers, and just hoping people who don't check their statements will never notice. I had to contact my bank and notify them of the fraud this bartender committed. Awesome rooftop bar! Really cool Austin skyline view good opportunity for pictures. The live band was great (played a mix of rock and country, not old school country-upbeat). The drinks were reasonably priced and the bartenders were attentive. A lot of out of towners- aged around 25 and up I'd say. read more

The drinks are fairly cheap too and it's a cool place to kick back. The second night, I was downstairs enjoying some more live music. This guy singing/playing his guitar was really good! This became our standby bar during the ACL Fest b/c of the rooftop patio and cheap beer. No problem getting in and snagging a table around 9PM but prepare for UT-driven crowds/lines starting around 10:30PM. The DJ/dance floor is pretty weak and easy enough to ignore. The downstairs had a better beer selection (upstairs just has cans given the rooftop overlooks 6th st.) but that's about the only thing it offered that was better. Seemed like there was always a cover singer or band playing Matchbox 20 or crap like that every time we ventured down. Come for the patio and cheap beer. Stay in spite of the rest. read more

The service is slow, the beer prices are average. The only things I like are the fact that there are multiple music options in the same place and the rooftop patio is nice on a beautiful night. I really like The Blind Pig! It has three different areas to it. All with a different kind of vibe. The front of The Blond Pig immediately has a bar, that is always pretty busy. Crowded with thirsty guys buying drinks for literally thirsty girls. They have a small area carved out for an acoustic set to play live, typically country vibe. If you push through the crowd, you will pass the bathrooms (always clean) and Mario cart (always fun) and then get to the back of the bar where there is another bar. This area is covered, but outside. It is really chill and typically they have on sports or the GOP Debates, which we love. There aren't any barstools, so this is standing only. They also have some hoops to shoot over here. The rooftop is personally my favorite area. It has places to sit and stand. The bar is really big and spread out evenly. The stage up here is suited for live full bands, so we love to come up here to see friends play live. All around great bar and always a good experience at the Blind Pig. read more

Terrible place. I was in line to use to bathroom on New Years Eve and two women come in claiming that one is a bartender and the other is the owners wife. They yell at me telling me that the bartender needs to use the bathroom right then and there. I didn't let them skip me and went into the stall when it was my turn. When I came out of the stall the women have their phones out recording me and yelling " We're ganna get your ass kicked out" I ignore them because they were obviously drunk. I continue to wash my hands and leave the bathroom. When I turn around from washing my hands there is a male manager in the bathroom yelling at me that I need to leave the bar. I asked him why and he just grabbed my elbow and told me to get out. I pulled my elbow away from him and turn to walk back to my friends. When I look back I see the manager and the woman that was yelling at me in the bathroom following me and yelling at me to get out. I keep walking until I get to my friends I came with and the manager tells them that I need to leave. They asked him what I did and he responded "She started a fight in the bathroom with the owners wife" At this point I'm mad because I'm being harassed for go to the bathroom when I needed to. So I head towards the door to leave this piss poor bar and the manager is right behind me pushing me forward every chance he gets. The manager is telling me that he's called the cops and that I'm going to jail all because Marcella , the owners wife NOT the bartender, needed to use the bathroom. They couldn't even get their story straight. I wouldn't recommend this bar for ANYONE. I was bullied in the bathroom, stalked throughout the bar, and then assaulted on my way out. AND my name was slandered by them calling the cops. They changed me a $10 cover fee and then ruined my night. This place is trash. read more
