I haven't been back here for ages! I can report that their coffee is still fantastic! Went here with my family and tried their bird of paradise (guava foam matcha) and hojicha caramel latte and they were delicious. The Guava foam matcha was sooo delicious, I'm definitely getting this next time I come back again. The hojicha caught my eye when I saw it. I love making hojicha tea so getting this hojicha caramel latte hot is . Its a very nice light blend. Pair this with sitting in front with their spectacular patio and you'll have a great time. Another item on the menu that caught my eye was the matcha sua dua, so a vietnamese matcha coffee. Very interesting! As always with this area, I hate parking around here. There is a small lot if you can find parking. If not good luck finding some street parking nearby. Their space inside is spacious paired with a front and side patio to enjoy the nicer weather. Overall I recommend this coffee shop!
a solid spot to hang out or get some work done (albeit not very spacious), and the service is super friendly. i got their seasonal strawberry malt latte and it was really smooth and strong. i do wish the strawberry flavor came through more, since it was heavier on the chocolatey sweetness, but it was still enjoyable. i also really liked their house-made almond milk and love that there's no upcharge for it :) the pastry selection was a bit limited when we went, and the lemon poppy loaf was slightly dry. i'd love to come back and try their food items and more coffee tho!
Came for breakfast- ordered a biscuit w/crème fresh & jam, and the plancha cheese egg omelette- both were delicious. Parking lot out back with on duty security guard. My coffee was weaker than expected and not very hot. Hubby's latte was good but tasted funny not expecting the different taste. Service was good, clean dining area but dark interior.
Coffee is always great. Love getting the Texas bourbon caramel latte and now the cold brew with the vanilla cloud. Food is delish. Tacos are a bit small if you're planning on sharing. Any pastry is great! Workers are super kind and chill. And it's usually pretty quiet and relaxed inside
Planned to come in for breakfast but we got here around 11. Got a tropical something drink that was pretty good, and a caramel latte. I'm not a coffee guy by any stretch of the imagination but I could tell this was better coffee than I've ever had before. I got the green tomato blt with an egg added and the person I was with got a biscuit sandwich. I enjoyed my food and they certainly don't skimp you on the bacon. The biscuit was a bit dry and crumbly and fell apart pretty easily, but you could tell it was homemade and tasted good. Overall not a bad time.
When I visited for Sunday morning breakfast, the atmosphere was lively and representative of a classic local coffee shop for both conversations and work. I loved the interior decor, including the designs for the menu and seating by high-top, outdoors, and standard tableside. I ordered an iced matcha latte, which I enjoyed as it struck a balance between its sweetness and the natural matcha powder the staff used. The biscuit was also tasty, mainly for the apricot jam that came with my order. I felt it could've been flakier, as the bottom was also a bit harder than I would've liked. The prices run marginally higher compared to other Montrose coffee shops I visited in the neighborhood, so note that when ordering larger sit-down or brunch dishes. Overall, I had an enjoyable experience but would credit the atmosphere more than the food and drink itself.
Blacksmith is an adorable little coffee shop in Montrose! I love their vanilla lattes and I also love their huge parking lot. Which is a major plus in downtown Houston! This is my go-to coffee shop for me and my friend when we get together. The service is fast and everyone is always so nice.
Blacksmith has that vibe--the kind of effortlessly chill atmosphere that hits you the moment you step inside. Warm lighting, the low hum of conversation, and the incredible smell of fresh coffee and food drifting through the air create a space that feels both inviting and energizing. And floating through it all was the faint sound of Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young in the background--soft, nostalgic, and absolutely perfect for the moment. We came in early for a football game, slightly hungover and desperately needing something comforting but quality--and Blacksmith absolutely delivered. This place just hits right when you need a reset.The team here is all smiles--genuine, attentive, and unmistakably kind. Their service is impeccable, the kind that makes you feel taken care of without ever feeling rushed. I ordered the Blacksmith bowl with an egg and a corridor, and shared one of their legendary biscuits. The bowl was vibrant, flavorful, and beautifully layered--comforting yet elevated in all the best ways. The egg added that perfect velvety richness, and the corridor was smooth, bright, and the exact kind of pick-me-up your body says "thank you" for. And that biscuit... buttery, warm, flaky perfection.From the ambiance to the aromas to the music to the service, everything at Blacksmith feels intentionally crafted. It was exactly what we needed, and we walked out feeling alive again. Already planning the next visit.
Have always heard great things but we usually do breakfast and coffee at home. We popped in on a recent Saturday morning. The space is larger than I was expecting and had a nice merch selection upon entry. The woman behind the counter was friendly and helpful. My normal go to order is a bone dry cappuccino but I decided to try the competition cappuccino along with the yogurt and toasted granola. My husband got a drip coffee and the breakfast tacos. My cappuccino ended up being a little too sweet for me but I loved how it came with a side car espresso shot and my breakfast was a little heavy on the yogurt and light on granola. Overall this was a cute coffee shop but I find that I am happier in my own kitchen on a Saturday morning.
Blacksmith has always been a favorite coffee spot of mine in the Montrose area. They have a designated parking lot which I appreciate, and also have a decent amount of table space to study or work if necessary. The coffee here is strong, and this was the first coffee shop that made me truly love a flat white. I will say that my flat white tasted just the teeeniest bit burnt at the beginning of the drink, but otherwise still a great drink. They do also offer food and breakfast options for those interested. Blacksmith remains one of my favorite spots to study and coffee sip here!
Came in for Sunday brunch date and had a good time Dress code: casual Food: 5/5 I got their skirt steak bowl with an egg added and my partner got the smoked salmon dill scramble. Bowl was super flavorful with plenty of steak and a creamy egg on top. Salmon was delicious as well. Partner also got a cappuccino with oat milk which was beautiful and delicious. Service: 4/5 like most brunch places, order at counter, pick your seat and food is brought out to you. Took a bit for food to come out and almost had food cleared when both of us stepped away for a second but no major complaints Ambiance 4/5: fairly tight fit and some of the tables didn't seem dirty per se but not super clean either. Got pretty crowded as the place filled up and pretty loud. Value: 4/5 generally pretty good value on the food, likely would come back every once in a while to get the bowl again. Parking: parking lot, had plenty of spots when we got there but I imagine might be a bit harder to find spots as it gets busy.
Really really enjoyed this place. I got the dill scramble and subbed the bread for a croissant, it was delish! Staff was very nice about the substitution. They had a great coffee of the day as well. The have a surprisingly large parking lot for Westheimer. My friend and I worked in here for a bit after eating and enjoyed the ambiance.

Tried the chilaquiles today - fantastic! The green sauce is spicy but not hot to take away the taste. I usually get the oatmeal which is also great, but decided to venture out. Coffee of course is the best. Lastly - staff is the best read more

I finally got to step into Blacksmith for a Sunday brunch/lunch, and it did not disappoint. I started my order off by ordering the Coconut Almond Chai, which is chai with coconut water and almond milk. I'm not much of a chai drinker because I find it overly spiced. However, this drink was so incredibly good and refreshing! The coconut water was the perfect touch. Who knew?! I then ordered the croissant with crème fraiche and jam. Yum! I recommend as a little side or snack. My main course was the Vietnamese Steak and Eggs! It was delicious, and I'd easily order it again. It's more of like a steak tips stir fry, but it's yummy nonetheless. I made a mini banh mi with the French bread and pate I was given. Sooo good. I'll definitely be back to Blacksmith. read more

It's a good place to hang out and have a cup of coffee. The ambiance is cool and the people who work here are nice (even most people who enter). However, I don't believe it's the kind of place I'd be rushing back to tomorrow. The food was decent and the menu was pretty small. The place was a little crammed but, I do love the industrial look and feel to 'The Blacksmith'. The decor fits perfectly with the name. I also LOVED my mocha latte, delish!!! Another plus is that it is about 1:30 p.m. and although there are quite a few people here, it's not overcrowded with chatter. You can really just sit back and relax for an hour or two. read more
Total hipster joint. Love that they have powder soap in the bathrooms (throw back to elementary school in the 80s). But something about the cafe setup and menu wasn't totally easy to navigate. The biscuits and marmalade were fantastic. Thought the steak and eggs was over-salted; needed some fresh fruit to complement it. Private gravel parking but it's not great. Unshaded wooden patio like 5 feet or less from the street so it's not so great either. Dim and small inside. Walk up to the bar in the center on the place and order from the tiny short menu. I wanted to try everything but since it was breakfast, I had the green tea donut, the biscuit with the raspberry marmalade and creme fraiche and a flat white coffee. Tiny serving of coffee but it was good. The donut was pretty good and the biscuit wasn't warm but it was still crusty goodness. It was bigger than I expected. The coffee shop has found its ultimate expression in Houston. From its expertly prepared drinks and hearty (if a bit pricey) fare, I am a big fan of Blacksmith. The spartan elegance contrasts with the great care and precision of its offerings. Although I found the steak & eggs to be a bit salty for my liking; I have since tried everything else on their simple menu. If you're looking for a place with great breakfast, and coffee, then look no more! You have found it! Their coffee is by far some of the best Ive had in Houston (top 5). I tried the biscuit and red eye gravy, and boy was it ever so good! One the best biscuits, and gravy I've ever ate. The place is kind of small so there's limited seating. When I went it wasn't that crowed, but it could've easily got full in any minute. They have outside sitting as well, and there's plenty of parking so you won't be looking all day just to get inside. In just one visit this place has become my favorite place to have a Saturday brunch. The prices are affordable. It's an overall great place to chill, have breakfast, have a date or even start your day out at. read more

They have pretty limited hours, but it's worth coming here for the beverages, venues, and people! I usually come to do some work/study because it's generally pretty quiet (from my experiences) and there's wifi. Of course, big groups come in sometimes because they have some nice big wooden tables, despite the small venue. It's also good for kids here. It's very chill, and I always manage to find a seat and parking! I've never had the food here, but I like getting a mocha or latte here. They have a large variety of drinks, but I'm pretty boring when it comes to my coffee fix. read more

I've not even tried the food yet (my eye is on the Vietnamese eggs and steak) but I already am a fan. Walk in and you are greeted by smiling baristas. I ordered the iced tea and iced coffee to cool off from the blistering heat. Neither were amazing or special, but they got the job done. The ambience and lighting is a little dark for my taste - unless you can find a window seat. This made it hard to get reading done. I'm also not a huge fan of bar stools because they hurt my back after awhile, so I'll be sure to grab a table seat next time. However, the shop was populated by young and middle aged professionals, making the atmosphere pretty inviting. Add to that the jamming playlist and you've got a solid place for lunch / hanging out. read more

Settling in for some work grind around noon, I found that my decision to come to blacksmith was not well planned. The place was packed! Thankfully, there was ample seating for my car as parking was a breeze. Yet, there certainly was not ample seating for me unfortunately. Not exactly spacious, the line to the cashier reached the back door and I had to squeeze into a counter spot next to the windows just to claim a spot. Luckily, the lunch rush ended around 1:00 and I merrily tried the pate so sammy. Vietnamese inspired, the sandwich didn't pack a lot of Vietnamese taste. I think the establishment toned down the bold flavors of the fish sauce and the seasoning of the pork patty so that the general audience wouldn't be too shocked by the unique sensations. The flaky croissant-like bread supporting all the toppings was pleasant and buttery and the egg yolk slightly cooked to prevent overflow. Interesting experience, but definitely not the best food and not the ideal study location if you need quiet. However, ambience was solid if you ignore the crowdedness. Food lacked flavor. Perhaps, I should try coffee later to see if blacksmith can redeem itself, but otherwise, anticlimactic experience considering all the hype. read more

Need more plugs! :) I got tea and it was good. Good place to get some work done. I like the feel. Very intimate. I got the bacon egg and cheese sandwich on a biscuit. It was delicious. The other food items were just ok. The croissant wasn't warm. The jam was just ok. Good service. Super nice people read more

Cool interior and nice coffee. Location is pretty nice. The coffee is much better than southside espresso across Montrose but it's much more expensive. I've tried catalina southside boomtown and here. I think I'd go to catalina because it's cheaper and they have a very unique flavor to their coffee. I could even recognize their coffee by scent. One good thing about here (blacksmith) is that they have lot more seating than other places. Good wifi signal. Big parking lot. read more

Hipster, quaint, cozy. It's perfect. San Diego Northpark vibes in the heart of Houston. I had a most delicious honey latte, and my friend and I shared a croissant and a biscuit with creme fraiche and jam. They did not disappoint! My mouth is watering just writing this review! They had lunch options as well. I would return to try some other food next time. read more

After 5 years in Houston, I finally gave this place a try and so glad I did! Such a cute spot with great food and wonderful espresso and teas. The patio outside is lovely and a great spot to people watch. Will be back here for sure! The steel cut oats are amazing! read more

I cam here for lunch and ordered the blacksmith bowl along with some chai. Overall the atmosphere was good and buzzing. The chai was quite tasty and made fairly well. The bowl was pretty meh; there wasn't much beef or guacamole to make it worth it in my opinion. Overall, the drinks and atmosphere are good though the food is pretty meh. read more
The staff and ambience was great, can be busy around brunch time. The cold brews are actually pretty good and done properly, latte/latte art seems to be a signature for these guys taste pretty good, but the sugar cane can taste pretty neutral. The steak and egg is Vietnamese inspire, it was a little salty, but still pretty good and a good portion size. TL;DR: solid brunch/date establishment, coffee is pretty good can be pricey, but a must try if you're a coffee person. read more
Steak and eggs where too salty. The squared biscuit gravy was so thin it was like soup. The caramel latte was watered down and the Vietnamese coffee was far from it. What a disappointment and not to mention it was a chilly morning and the latte was cold.... This place is better for party of two and no more as there are limited settings. read more

First time here. Cortado has great taste and a smooth mouthfeel. Atmosphere was cool however, there wasn't a welcoming, this is where you order type feel. You kind of have to figure it out. I would come back and I would recommend! read more

One of my favorite breakfast hipster hot spots in Montrose. The food was elegant and tasteful. The decor and ambiance was classy yet casual. The seating arrangements promote socializing and the vibe is very modern and artsy. The lattes were out of this world and the delicate smoked salmon dill scramble melted in your mouth. The sides are interesting and I'd highly recommend them all. My favorite is the steel cut oats and the green goddess salad. The fresh scones and croissants are a perfect side to a fresh mocha and/or latte. The wait time isn't long at all and the service was very swift. The staff will even work with you to form a new concoction from the variety in the menu. Definitely will return next time I'm in the area! read more

Love this place. It has all the features I look for in a coffee shop (in addition to delicious lattes): -friendly service -relaxing atmosphere -ample seating -ample bike parking -free wifi -a milk alternative (in this case, homemade almond milk) Bonus: the breakfast menu includes more than just pastries. The sausage sandwich on the square biscuit is delicious! read more
