Blacksauce Kitchen is well known around the city for dishing up those big buttery biscuit sandwiches we've all seen at the farmers market. I finally had the opportunity to try their brick and mortar location in Remington for a delicious early afternoon bite. Blacksauce is a quaint little shop with limited seating options to enjoy your food. I decided to grab my food to go and pop a squat down the street at R. House to eat my lunch. The staff at Blacksauce were welcoming and very friendly. I decided to go with the Cider Braised Chicken Biscuit, Sweet Potato Donut, and a Smoked Apple Cider. The chicken biscuit was yummy, especially with the addition of the onion jam which seemed to appear more prominent and even more flavorful once the sandwich was cold. I enjoyed the sweet potato donut however, I wanted more of a sweet potato flavor to shine through. And the smoked apple cider drink was just what was needed for the cooler weather. I follow Blacksauce Kitchen on IG and they always seem to have some really creative dishes they make on a weekly basis. I have been dying to try this place, but the lines are always crazy long and I haven't been sure it would be worth it. I was so wrong! I finally tried a short rib biscuit and it was delightful. The biscuit was the perfect combination of flaky and dense and chewy and the short rib was juicy and decadent and slightly sweet with some kind of jam. It was a truly great breakfast sandwich. Also - it was that good after it had been sitting on of a tray at an event they were catering, so I can't even imagine how good it would be made to order and piping hot. I've now tried Blacksauce Kitchen twice: once at their storefront on a Thursday and once at the Saturday farmers market. The tamarind duck sandwich with crispy leeks on the Thursday was phenomenal, service was fast and warm, and the portion size was generous. The farmers market was a very different experience: super slow service for a mediocre-at-best duck scrapple biscuit sandwich (just a bit bland, sadly). And maybe I got a bad biscuit, I don't know, but that part didn't really impress me much either, which is sad because I heard such good things and waited 40 minutes. I will definitely return for the Thursday menu soon, but I'll give the farmer's market stall a pass from now on. Whoa my breakfast biscuit was phenomenal! I was in town visiting my foodie bestie (@amandatheepicure) for her birthday. She has a collection of places she wants to visit and this was on it. Blacksauce Kitchen is a catering spot that is only open on Thursdays and Saturdays for normal takeout. The menu is constantly changing. On this visit, during the first weekend of November, we enjoyed an incredible barbeque lamb with free range egg on cheddar thyme biscuit. The lamb melted in our mouths and it was an explosion of delicious flavors. The cheddar thyme biscuit complimented the whole dish and really brought it together. It was so yummy. It was also a huge serving that had me saving half of the sandwich for later. Our other friend ordered a normal biscuit and their potato hash which was also yummy and unique with bits of apple in it. i continue to check out their food at the farmers market, but i have graduated to visiting their brick and mortar location too. they have a different menu every week, so check their instagram on wednesday afternoons if you want to know what they're dishing up for the week. i am still obsessed with their biscuit sandwiches, but i have also tried some of their dinner options on thursdays as well. their brick and mortar location has limited seating, but on a cold day there has always been a spot for me to chill and eat my food as most people take it to go. the most recent thing i got was the fried chicken box, which comes with a biscuit, mac and cheese, and your choice of dark or white meat with a hot honey drizzle. they do an excellent fried chicken here, both dark and white. it's perfectly crispy and compliments the biscuit so well. i don't like cheese so i can't comment on the mac, but my friend says their mac and cheese is next-level. as always, the service is amazing and the people working the counter are so pleasant and i look forward to chit-chatting with them when i come in. i have made it part of my wednesday routine to check their menu, and i will continue to patronize them until i am physically incapable of it. read more

I've been waiting to catch this place forever! I finally did today. I had the fried zucchini biscuit with a pepper jam, the peach limeade and an add on sweet potato biscuit. My cousin was adamant about getting here because they operate on a 2 day schedule. She ordered us a few biscuit sandwiches. We ate in the car because we were on the move that day. It's a small setting, was clean inside, service was decent. The biscuits were delightful. Soft, buttery, crumbly, moist. Fresh to order. We had some steak, some bbq lamb and a sweet chicken type. I tried every single one and could not stop the expressive ooooohhhss and yummies from coming out my mouth between bites. The steak was savory and slightly overdone for me but very good with the egg and biscuit. Bbq Lamb was the most interesting pairing well in a breakfast sandwich. Every time I am in town, I order from this place every Saturday morning. However, every Saturday morning, the customer service continuously and consistently gets worse. Like seriously, horrible! I don't even understand it. It makes swallowing the food extra hard because you know that you just left having a horrible experience. I finally stopped in after getting a recommendation to come here years ago. I'm so glad I did because the food SLAPPED. I got a skirt steak sandwich, mezcal glazed ribs, and wood roasted broccoli as well as a ginger sticky bun. What a meal! I liked the flavors of the skirt steak the best. A few weeks ago, I tried blacksauce KITCHEN for the first time. Before I get into what I ordered, let me just tell you that I'm looking forward to the next time I can visit here! After rehearsing what I wanted to order before I got out of the car, I walked in and almost forgot what I wanted because seeing the menu again made me want to buy it all, but financial responsibility kicked in. Darn it! Oh, and recalling that I'm vegetarian kicked in - so yeah no smoked meat for me. But still, I had options! The woman working the cash register was really sweet. She was also patient and kind enough to talk me through the options and make suggestions. I ordered the coconut milk braised collards, the zucchini bread, the blueberry bread pudding, and the ginger limeade. I loved the greens so much that I was upset that there wasn't more. But in all seriousness, I wish more greens came in the order, especially given the price - still worth buying every time though. The zucchini bread was out of this world amazing! The flavor profile was unique, and each time I tried not to take a bite, I couldn't help but go back in for more. I'm a big fan of bread pudding and the version here is pretty good. Possible, helpful tip: I suggest if you order both the zucchini bread and the bread pudding to truly wait to eat the bread pudding. Ya know, treat it like the dessert it is and not like it's a part of your main meal. (I was so excited to try the bread pudding that I didn't wait and ate it right after the zucchini bread. Don't be like me lol I was stuffed). Also, the drink was quite refreshing and was a great way to wash everything down. I been ordering from this spot since they were selling primarily out of the parking lot. I ordered for Thursday takeout from the storefront. Driving all the way up from Upper Marlboro. On the way, I get a text even a little before pickup time that my order was ready. Exciting! I arrive while on a business call and park illegally because legal parking spots were full. I was anticipating I would run in and out with my order. I arrive and am told it was not ready. I think they just need to pack it up. Since I got the text. Minutes pass by. I walk up and ask if the text was just a suggestion cause I really need to go and return to my call and my car. Stressed. I am given major attitude by a woman with black and blond natural hair who was working the counter. She glanced back at the cooks and it was then I knew I was not going to be given a single solitary fugg about. My fault for wondering...what happened to customer service? I showed her the text and she barely acknowledged it other than "I believe you. I don't know why it was sent." Which told me this was a regular occurrence. Cause your business did and you probably gave my food to simeone else. Didn't take any responsibility for it being sent. Didn't apologize for the delay. Which was all I needed really. Nothing. She proceeded to serve every person in there before me (people were already there obviously waiting a long time when I entered--not sure if they were pre-orders like me) Including someone who came in after me. I am almost sure we ordered some of the same things. The shop was intentionally left empty before I got my order. More than 20 minutes after I had selected for my pre-order. I regrettably must give a poor review in order to warn others who may be considering catering an event from Blacksauce Kitchen. I organized a 250 catered dinner for healthcare workers at my hospital during COVID. I coordinated the logistics including full price payment with the office manager 3 weeks in advance reminding her 3 times what time we needed the meals delivered for the event. On the day of our event, no one was reachable by phone or email and the order arrived 45 (yes, you read that right) minutes late. There was no apology, only that the office manager forgot to relay our delivery time to the chicken. She herself delivered the meals late and didn't make any effort to express remorse. 250 physicians were inconvenienced by this as they are caring for sick patients. The chicken biscuit sandwiches were well received but would have benefited from a jam. The pumpkin flatbread was an embarrassment to serve, just a piece of bread in a box. I have never been more disappointed in a business and will not support this establishment going forward. In a time when local restaurants are struggling I imagined our support would be appreciated. We hired Blacksauce Kitchen for a work catering event, the owner was able to create a menu for us (cider braised chicken, mushroom rice risotto, broccoli, baked Mac and cheese, biscuits), my mouth is watering just thinking about the food. It was a huge hit, everyone loved all of the dishes. The biscuits especially are big and you can taste the butter in them. The flavor of the chicken was super intense without being too salty or overpowering, I had it with the rest of the items, but others were grabbing leftovers to put on their salads the next day. The Mac and cheese. THE MAC AND CHEESE. I don't know if I'll ever recover from the cheesiest, most flavorful Mac I've ever tried, everyone was easily able to get some of the baked-on, cheesy goodness that sticks to the sides of the pan. I've eaten Blacksauce food two times and I can say these people know what they're doing. Yesterday, Blacksauce had a setup at the Monument City Brewery one-year anniversary party. I noticed they had chocolate cake on the menu and took a chance. I'm so glad I did. It was the best cake I've had outside of baked goods made by my family (very good cooks). The cake was moist and the frosting was light and whipped and delicious. I made the mistake of sharing with my friend and he ate half. It disappeared so fast, I was unable to get a picture. I will be going to Blacksauce JUST for that cake. Otherwise, I ordered the fried oyster sandwich, which came on a homemade biscuit. The sandwich was well prepared given Blacksauce was set up in a parking lot that day. The biscuit and oysters were really good, though I wasn't a fan of the sauce. I'd order it again, just minus the sauce. My other Blacksauce visit was to their actual brick and mortar location. It was packed in there and there really wasn't anywhere to sit and eat, but the ribs were worth the wait and relocating elsewhere to consume it! I also liked the greens quite a bit. They churn out delicious biscuits with wicked combo's. They now have a physical location thats the good news, but they are only opened on Thursday-(11am-8pm) as they navigate this new avenue of having a physical location. Their menu as they stated on insta will rotate weekly, which frankly is my preference. They opened last week Thursday i had a patty brisket melt, that was delicious $9.
