I've been meaning to visit this establishment for some time, and so stopped by a few weeks ago. I'd seen the menu in advance and was intrigued by the Jerk Mushrooms. On arrival, I was confused where the host stand was, so I meandered until someone spoke to me. There was a brief wait before I was seated, then after checking the menu one last time, I did go with the Jerk Mushrooms. As I waited, I looked at the space I was in, which I'd been in before many times when it was Corks. Didn't seem like much had changed. There was a long wait for the food - so long, some rando checked on me. Another 20 mins after that I received the entree. Overall, it was pretty good but not what I thought it would be. I tried Yard for the first time last Saturday. I think this place has a lot of potential but there's some menu items that personally fell flat for me. But my experience as a whole was a good one. First I'll start with the Service, the staff and the owner were great honestly. They were kind and very hospitable. The restaurant itself has a cool set up. The dining area is smaller and more intimate with great lighting, however the back lounge area is a lot larger and there is outdoor seating. So it perfect if you want to eat and then hold a vibe later on. You can do it all in one place. And it's BYOB which is great. Now let's get to the food. For an appetizer we ordered the Scotch kissed Brussels which were delicious. For my entree, I ordered the curry goat. The goat meat was good very well to my surprise, however (and it could've been because it was later in the evening) the bone to goat meat ratio could've been a lot better. I don't want to have to pick apart my meal just to find the goat meat. But because it was good I'll give them a pass. The steamed cabbage and plantain were also very good. The plate would've been nearly perfect and my rice & peas was not undercooked. And it was incredibly bland. It would've also been nice to have the option to swap for white rice. I love rice & peas (when cooked right) but I prefer white rice with my curry goat specifically. Next was the fried red snapper (escovitch). While I did love the presentation, and the fish was cooked well, it was devastatingly bland and the escovitch was not escovitch. It was a tiny garnish of sauteed veggies. I need spicy pickled veggies on my snapper. So you know, there were some winners and some losers but I was intrigued by the full menu and will definitely be returning to try more food. At first glance from the outside it doesn't look like much but once you're inside and seated it's gorgeous! Such a cute date night restaurant. Everything was clean, including the bathrooms. We started with the beef patty which was amazing! I love a good beef patty. It was nice and soft with ample filling and flavor! Super fresh. I got the jerk chicken plate with rice & peas, cabbage and plantain. Idk but the jerk taste more like barbecue sauce then jerk sauce to me and the chicken wasn't falling off the bone like it should have been. Almost like it wasn't cooked long enough. Everything else was delicious. The cabbage was cooked to perfection. My husband got the Rasta pasta and he wasn't impressed. Instead of the meat being mixed into the pasta, it was placed on top and also tasted like barbecue sauce. He also complained that there weren't enough noodles in his dish but that they were very flavorful. Lastly, the waitress we had wasn't the greatest. Seemed like she had an attitude. Perhaps because it was a little late, or maybe it's because my husband wasn't pleased with his food. I've had a lot of jerk chicken in my life and this was my least favorite. Amazing!!!!! This is a real authentic Jamaican restaurant. The jerk chicken meal was delicious. It comes with cabbage, plantains, and rice and peas. The portion sizes are great. My friend and I visited Yard on a Tuesday evening and it wasn't crowded at all. We ordered the Jerk Chicken meal that came with rice & peas & cabbage and the Jerk Chicken Pasta. Both meals were well-seasoned but especially the pasta! The chicken was tender and fresh and I loved the pasta sauce (although it was a little oily) we enjoyed the food. It is BYOB at the moment so I had a ginger beer to drink, but the staff told us there is a liquor store right next door if you'd like to indulge. When the chef is the one taking your order, you already know the food is about to be a 10/10. We originally planned to eat elsewhere, but after arriving to find it closed for a private event, we ended up at The Yard thanks to a TikTok recommendation. Best detour ever. We were torn between the Rasta pasta and the snapper escovitch, and the chef suggested the pasta topped with snapper escovitch. Incredible call. I had never had warm escovitch before, and it was absolutely delicious. The chef explained they slow-simmer the fish in the escovitch sauce so it fully absorbs the flavor, and it shows. We started with fresh ginger juice and the brussels sprouts, both of which were phenomenal. The fish was tender, flavorful, and so good we left nothing but bones. For the table I ordered an array of different options. For starters were the brussel sprouts, oxtail, beef patty and Mac and Cheese. For entrees we went with two Jerk Chicken (Yard bird)'s and Fish (Escovitch). The beef patty was good. The pastry shell tasted homemade and was soft. The filling was flavored. The oxtail sandwich was okay. The cocobread was soft that it was wrapped in. The Mac and Cheese didn't have much flavor at all, though it was made of three cheeses. They had this hot sauce that I used on most of the food selections. This imparted flavor for the Mac and Cheese. The entrees, unfortunately were underwhelming. Both the rice and plaintains were burnt. The Jerk Chicken was the saving grace. The cabbage was flavorful too. Overall the meal was ok. I may return in the future but I'm not sure when it will be. This was the worst experience of my life. I placed an online order at 7:30pm through toast for pickup . The order receipt said pick up would be between 8:19-8:24pm. I arrived at the restaurant at 8:30 to pick up my food. I wait in line behind two people. I tell the cashier I'm here to pick up she looked at me strange like she didn't know anything about the order. She says it ain't ready and goes to serve some food to another table. The woman cashier said they were starting it now. They were just starting my order at 8:30 instead of at 7:30 when I ordered it. I wait for to come back because I'm parked three blocks away and my elderly mother was at cross street market waiting for me to pick her up. I go get my mom. I attempted to call the line to see if my food is ready no answer. I go back to the restaurant at 9pm. The food is ready I am basically pushed out the restaurant with my food bag stapled up. I'm still parked 3 blocks away so when I get to my car and open the bag I notice I'm missing two sodas I paid as well. I go back to the restaurant for the third time. I'm met with watch your voice watch your tone. Not once did anyone apologize to me for making me wait at this point a hour and half for two chicken platters 3 beef patties and two sodas. The customer service was piss poor. No apologies or empathy for their customer. If your a popular restaurant don't take online order if you only have three chefs or update your online orders to say 45-60 wait for food I might not have ordered at all. I am not sure if the dark skin man that I spoke with the last time was the owner but he tried to put me out the restaurant without my sodas. He was too busy lecturing me on my tone and did not care about my frustration of being here three times and my order still not being right. I'll start with the pros.... I love the store front style of the restaurant, it sits in a row of businesses. The design was inviting and I love this style of dining that is becoming very popular of which is the close knit of seating arrangements. We sat in the back part of the restaurant of which was a bit more spacier, also was located by an outside seating area and I love a restaurant with the option to sit outside. There was music playing of which added to the over-all experience. My daughter ordered oxtails, my other daughter ordered goat, and my husband ordered pasta (not sure of the name, it reminded me of Rasta pasta with shrimp). The pasta had huge shrimps which were a plus and the pasta along with the sauce was really good, I would've given the pasta alone a 4-Star. My daughter expressed that the oxtails were good, but not the best she's had , although aesthetically it was very pleasing. My daughter expressed that the goat was aesthetically pleasing as well but disappointing. We also ordered two orders of wings and the street corn, the wings were cooked really nice and were flavorful, but my street corn never came out. Now the cons and reason for this rating : Upon being initially sat down at the table, it took well over 20 minutes before anyone came to our table , said hello or acknowledged us at all. Finally we were able to order drinks and food of which I had to go next door where alcohol was sold because the restaurant is BYOB (Bring your own bottle) of which for a restaurant selling Caribbean food was disappointing alone, I was very much looking forward to having a rum punch. It was well over 45 minutes before we received our food, the waiter did not stop past our table and check on us while we waited nor did she provide an update on our food. Maybe there were short staffed or the amount of orders were overwhelming, but simply communicating would've solved that issue! If it was not for the fact that my daughters really wanted to try this restaurant, I would've left!!! Finally the food comes out , we're eating the wings and everything and just talking. We noticed that the corn never came out, nor did she come back to the table to check on us because I wanted to place an ordered for an entree. Another table was sat next to us of which were getting regularly checked on and provided service. Eventually I asked about my corn and the waiter attitude was very nasty and unbecoming, , as if she was bothered about being asked where was the corn I ordered. Her attitude alone was uninviting, unpleasant and not customer friendly. Her lack of professionalism and attention to detailed lacked greatly. The Chef came over and proceeded to tell us that he didn't charge for the corn and that he will speak to his staff (our waiter), regarding her rude attitude, behavior and lack of professional. I also pointed out to him as I previously pointed out to her that the table that was sat afterwards were attended to regularly, we were told that those two individuals came from the bar seating. Overall I was very disappointed by the service, and the subpar tasting of the food, I will not be returning. What could be improved : "Customer service skills and Effective Communication". Lack of customer service and or poor customer service will deter individuals from returning to an establishment!! Communication is important, it keeps the customer aware of what's going on and also provides a space of understanding if the food is taking extremely long, no communication results in customers having no idea what's goin on. Instead of the server taking the time to explain to us they were swamped with orders and or operating with less staff, she continuously walked past our table to provide service for the other tables in the same vicinity! I had a great time talking with the owners and hearing their story on starting this new restaurant that opened 3 months ago. Ambiance was very nice. It is a well lit restaurant with very cute cozy decor. They also have a private space in the back of the restaurant available for private events. Most importantly the food!!! It was veryyyyy good! My faves were the island street corn, run down snapper and the rum wings. The snapper was covered in a some kind of coconut sauce and it was very delicious. I really wanted to like Yard. It has all the potential to be an amazing meal but I think all the dishes were all just lacking something for me. First of all, the restaurant is really cute and cozy and I was greeted as soon as I walked in. Everyone I encountered was really nice and friendly. We ordered the Bigga Oxtail and the Jerk Mushrooms (both dishes came with rice and beans and cabbage and plantains) and an extra side of plantains because I love plantains. The plantains were 10/10 but everything else was really sadly bland. The rice and beans were well cooked and fluffy but had no seasoning. That's fine, it's rice and should be flavored by the main dishes, but some salt would have been nice. The cabbage was also well cooked but again, not very seasoned. The oxtail was also well cooked and almost fell off the bone and had a lot of jerk seasoning but no salt! It was so bland! What a shame. The mushrooms, again, amazing textures, but it was a sweet coconut curry flavoring that was also lacking in salt. I was expecting a jerk seasoning so the sweet coconut threw me off. Overall, a little salt would have earned 4 stars and jerk seasoning on the mushrooms would have made this place 5 stars for me. I would go back for the plantains though! read more

Yard in Federal Hill attracts you with its fresh, vibrant and energetic vibe and charming staff--even the chef greeted us when we came in. I ordered the oxtail with cabbage and rice and peas and the scotch kissed brussel sprouts. The portions are ample which, for the price point, you'd hope for. Other Jamaican spots could take note. The highlight were the brussel sprouts which were flash fried but still felt healthier than other fried brussels I've had. The oxtail was pretty good though I didn't love the sauce. I'd be curious to try their other options though. The owner, Najee, was extremely friendly and approachable as he waited on us, despite obviously being busy with carryout orders as well. Overall, Yard is a great new spot in the area, and I'd definitely come back for the flavorful food and warm atmosphere. 8/10 read more

I will say 3.5, let me explain. Their jerk chicken is probably one of the best in the city, i like it a lot, and probably their most affordable meal. Honestly i think most of the items are way over prized, but i guess its Federal Hill so thats that. Service is nice. I recently had their oxtail it was ok, not bad, meat was tender, i just was not a fan of the gravy. The beef patty was interesting, not something i will order again. I don't usually like doing these sorts of reviews, but sometimes an experience stands out for all the wrong reasons. This was one of those times. We found Yard by accident after the Caribbean Festival in Baltimore a couple weekends ago. My family and I had no particular expectations, just the usual hope that the food would be good. At first glance, the mild crowd suggested it was a know spot. That seemed promising until we were seated. It took roughly 20 minutes after sitting down before anyone even acknowledged us. That was also when we learned it was BYOB, something that would've been helpful to know earlier. It wasn't a dealbreaker, but basic communication goes a long way. My wife and I actually had time to walk next door to grab a bottle of wine wait in line before anyone ever came to take our order. Our order: * Two orders of wings * Remix Pasta (their version of Rasta Pasta) : mine * Curry Goat : my daughter * Oxtails : oldest daughter * Street corn (appetizer) : my wife The food took quite a while to come out, and staff interaction during that wait was minimal. When it finally arrived, the food was decent, but not nearly worth the wait. Of all the dishes, the Remix Pasta stood out the most with good flavor and a nice presentation. Still, nothing extraordinary after that kind of delay. The street corn barely made it to the table, and by then we had already shared what we had and were mentally checked out of the experience. Normally I don't comment on how other tables are treated, but in this case it was hard to ignore. A group seated near us had been moved from the bar seating to a table and received immediate attention, friendly service, regular check-ins, and quick food. The difference in treatment was obvious. You would think it was intentional. When we mentioned the missing corn to our server, her response was vague. This was when her professionalism really began to unravel. We weren't being rude. We were frustrated, calm yes, but rightfully so after an hour of lackluster service and missing food. What made it worse was her defensive tone her deflection. "Well he didn't charge you for the corn". What's you point, because in this moment there's no acknowledgment. No apology. Just attitude. For what? It would have been a problem if any of us popped off however we still offered the sort of respect we would want in return. All my wife wanted was a little honesty and communication. Something simple like, "I'm sorry for the delay, we're short-staffed." That's it. A little respect goes a long way. We've eaten at plenty of places all over the city; where things go wrong, life happens and we always give grace when people are sincere and professional. Instead, the server stormed off and returned with the owner. To his credit, he tried to deescalate the situation, but his solution a single slice of rum cake for a table of four. Honestly, that felt more insulting than generous. No shade I can bake a better rum cake myself. We weren't looking for handouts we just wanted someone to take accountability. Final breakdown: * Wait time: Nearly an hour overall * Yard Wings: Basic, but fine when you're hungry * Remix Pasta: Good portion nice size shrimp and flavorful, still not worth the delay * Curry Goat: My daughter said it was the worst she's ever had * Oxtails: Just okay * Island Street corn: Took to go arrived on time * Service: Disorganized, defensive, and dismissive I can overlook an off night in the kitchen. Those happen. But when you combine average food with poor service and an unprofessional attitude, the result is a complete miss. What disappointed me the most was how the experience reaffirmed a harmful stereotype. I might go to out of my way to support Black-owned businesses, but pride in ownership must extend to customer service. In this case, it did not. We will not return. If you choose to visit, keep your expectations low. I didn't bother taking photos because presentation wasn't the issue. Food can be average if the atmosphere and service make up for it.
