The restaurant has a really nice bar on the inside with lots of outdoor seating around a mini stage and fire pits. We ordered a couple of cocktails that were really good. For food we went with the Ahi Tuna nachos and the tri-tip steak. Both plates tasted amazing. We would have liked to had a little more portion of tuna on the nachos. New Year's Eve 2024. 6:45 reservation, arrived about 6:50. Greeted nicely by two young ladies at check in. Seated right away. Wait time for drinks , not too bad. We ordered our bottle of wine and dinner at the same time. My wife and I both ordered the salmon. Also ordered the chorizo with melted cheese nachos. Our waitress, name unknown, but wears a NY Yankees black cap brings out the chips and cheese appetizer. Although this sounded delicious it was so greasy. I'm not a chef, but maybe the grease could have been drained before adding to the cheese? Next. Dinner. Our waitress brings out one order of salmon and two plates. Whattttttttttt? We had made it perfectly clear we were both having salmon. 2 orders, not 1. She looks stunned. She says okay. Note, we were not angry, we were okay you didn't listen correctly. So let's just get the other order going. About 10 minutes later I asked a different waitress if she could take back the salmon on our table to keep warm since we had not seen our waitress. She did. About 20 minutes later, still no sign of our original waitress. I told my wife she was clearly avoiding us. Time to check out, we asked for our bill for our bottle of wine and greasy cheese and chips. The bill was $53 and change, brought over by another waitress. I left $54 in cash. We were really looking forward to a nice dinner before heading to Wilson Creek. Unfortunately it wasn't but it could have been different. Here's my advice. Waitress should have said, sorry I didn't hear the order correctly. Let me get this fixed right away. She leaves one plate of salmon for us to stare at. Take the salmon bring back two. Instead of avoiding us you probably could have sold us another glass of wine. Don't be mad at your customer we were not mad at you. If this is your career act like it. We didn't have an attitude we were just patient until we ran out of time. It was over an hour from sit down time to no more time. Sat here on a cold Saturday night. Ambiance seemed cool but besides that, there was a lot of glaring issues. Our server was very nonchalant to us, constantly going to the Host area to chat with her coworkers. We did notice her on her phone for most of the time. Almost all of us got our food promptly, however, one of us had to wait nearly 45 minutes to receive his sandwich; another person had to wait 20 minutes to receive his order of fries. That's pretty ridiculous. We're the type of party where we wait for everyone to receive their food and then we dig in, but after a long day, that rule went away because our food was turning cold. The funniest thing is that nearly our entire table was done eating our food before the last person barely received his food. It honestly felt like our server was doing the ABSOLUTE bare minimum for us because she knew she was going to receive the standard gratuity charge for big tables, so why go the extra mile when you're already receiving gratuity, right? Let's start with some hard truth, there were definitely pandemic comeback pains for our local favorite spot (who didn't?). We mentioned it, and they have roared back to full strength IMHO. Through all of that, a few of the long-time employees truly busted their behinds and did it all with a smile. They have now built the staff back up and everyone is very friendly and personable. Good additions. We typically frequqent the tavern on Saturdays for brunch. Outstanding Bloody Mary's and the wife enjoys the Mimosas. Food-wise, we can sometimes be creatures of habit but we've tried almost everything on the brunch menu. Notably, we always get the potstickers because they are just delicious. It wasn't particularly busy and there was a bit of a wait for some reason before we were seated, but service overall was ok. Didn't notice anything about a service charge until we got our bill. I don't get the 3.5 star review, should be at least 4 stars. Blackbird perfectly balances its food to match its venue and atmosphere. If you give Blackbird a low rating you are picky. Blackbird's venue is awesome. Not too much inside seating actually but the patio / outdoor area is beyond spacious - we came when there was live music. There are firepits, games, and an outside bar - it's paradise for families and kids. The food is not to die for but it is good. The potato croquettes and the brussel's sprouts made for outstanding appetizers. My chicken salad was good - nothing special but nothing wrong with it. My wife didn't love her steak frites and I'd have to agree, the meat wasn't great. Everyone else liked their items. All in all it is what it is with a bit extra. The food was mediocre at best ( and scratch type kitchens are usually fantastic) Pros: The ambience and restaurant decor and look was cool. -bacon infused bloody Mary drink was great Not a place I'd return to or even recommend. We were seated almost immediately and a server arrived at our table. The server had a trainer with them. The trainer communicated to our table that the server was new. (But it was a busy Sunday. Why put a new server on the schedule on a busy Sunday?) My immediate thought was "just great....we're going to get bad service". Our orders were taken and our beverages and food arrived in a timely fashion. It was all down hill from there. Any refills we asked for (coffee, beer, etc.) took about 20 minutes to receive. We asked for a knife to cut a large food item yet we were ignored. We finally asked the trainer who also ignored the request. About 30 minutes after the food had been sitting on the table, we got the knife we asked for to cut the large food item. The server kept apologizing. No discount was offered despite our repeatedly asking the server and their trainer for various secondary service items. We tipped well....but something should be done about the level of service. I was not impressed. I am pretty frustrated with the trainer because they left their new server without support and it negatively affected our dining experience. Secondarily, I ordered the Italian Eggs Benedict. It looked fun and different. Well, I was upset by the clashing of flavors between the hollondaise and the balsamic vinegar. These two food items do not pair well. The prosciutto seemed like a well-intentioned ingredient, but was gummy, gooey, and hard to chew. I would recommend an Italian sausage slice in the benedict. Take out the balsamic altogether. (It was really quite gross.) And add light dollup of pesto to the side of the plate for added Italian accents. Lastly, Blackbird should have non-dairy milk for coffee. It is a given at every other competing restaurant to have coconut milk, almond milk, or oat milk. read more
