We come from out of town for the Christmas weekend and we're passing thru and were really excited to go to the Black Bear Diner. It looked very cute, cozy and festive so we decided to go with our two kids. When arriving we waited about 10 mins to get seat ( which is normal for a popular cute location) Upon sitting down our drink order was taken and my daughter accidentally spilled her hot coco and we asked for napkins. Long story short I had to go in search of napkins myself. Our food comes and we are just sitting there waiting with our food getting cold because we were never given utensils until we asked for them and they also finally brought napkins. We had a nice breakfast after a lab we had done for Granny up the street! Our server was kind and attentive, food was good. However, the woman's restroom wasn't very clean. The toilets and walls were dirty and you could tell they hadn't been cleaned that day. It was around 9:30 am on a Tuesday so that is unacceptable in my opinion. It really hurts to say this but very true it was very low key for our Christmas dinner just the 3 of us my mom & son & I 2 prime ribs one turkey meals I had let the lady know that my mom is on dayisis cannot have pototo so they gave extra stuffing instead the stuffing was like they poured & kept pouring salt mom can't have salt she had to give it to me instead she loved the green beans her steak was perfect my son said his turkey tasted like it was processed meat he was disappointed with the pie extra small slice no whip cream me that stuffing that my mom gave me along with mine had to throw it pug out I love salty foods but that stuffing was so salty beyond beif the meat was 100 percent prefect so for Mt 33$ plate it was for the meat so disappointed over all and alot of money just won't be doing that again at all the black bear restaurant in madera has changed not great as they used to me at least for big holidays on meals I think they were overwhelmed and we paid for that in more ways then once again we learn a lesson of where not to go for such meals read more

If you're looking for a nice sit down dinner, this is one of the best in town. Every time we've gone it's been busy. The most we've waited for a table is about 5 minutes. The food is good and the prices are reasonable. Their pies are great, my fave is the Blackberry. Best thing for me is they have an order/pay online app now!! This is one of the nicest Places of the Black Bear Diner. Inside and out its huge and clean. Despite it being extremely busy and full. We were seated promptly. And coffee was brought to immediately. Sunday mornings just a lot nicer! The staff at Madera Black Bear are exceptional. Bringing such a warm friendly and family vibe. My husband and I decided to go on a wing and sit at the bar, a spot usually for the "regulars". Although we have been a few times during the evening we were far from a regular. It was our very first time on a Sunday morning. No real reason mainly because of the crowds on a Sunday we try to avoid. Walking into the diner it was no doubt very busy. The wait time was none to very little as people were quickly greeted and seated. Picking the seats at the bar gave us front row seat to what a happy, healthy, team working environment looks like. The vibe and energy were unmatched and not like any other diner we have visited. The Madera location is our new Favorite Black Bear Diner. I am a regular user and contributed to Yelp so when I read reviews I trust they are accurate and most are spot on. I'm sorry to say Black Bear is not even close to the rave reviews it has received. Now all places can have bad nights but when it's fairly quiet and it takes 45 minutes to get three meals. they come out cold and there are waitresses chatting in the back rather than at least making drinks are needed that's not a bad night that's a bad restaurant and staff. Oh and the manager was no assistance either nor checked to make sure anything was wanted because if the wait. I come to this place at least once a month for work and at least I can mark this one been there done that. read more

I had a wonderful experience at Black Bear diner yesterday. a few days before I got a special online and I thought I would try it out. I had just spent the manager and assistant manager and told them that I was planning on coming in a few days They were very pleasant while I was standing in line in a local store I also added that I was going to be dressed as a Santa Claus I was handing out candy canes on a couple of campuses so when I showed up, I got some of the most exciting Hospitality responses I could get anywhere they were very hospitable and wanted pictures with the staff, etc. They really went over the top to welcome me when I did not expect that. They served me a wonderful meal, and the food was excellent but everybody in the store was very pleasant The assistant manager was very kind, and she deserves so much more. I couldn't have had a better time at the restaurant and many of the patrons came over and greeted me or gave me a hug It was just a pleasant experience that I would recommend to anyone in Madera. read more

We have dined at several different Black Bear Diners, and they are usually pretty good. They give you a lot of food! Even the smaller portions are pretty decent in my opinion. The day we ate at the Black Bear in Madera, I tried the chicken enchiladas. The chicken was moist and very tasty! I opted to have the sauce on the side in case I didn't like it, as I am picky when it comes to sauce. Next time, I would order it without the sauce, but everything else about the dish was really good. My suggestion to Black Bear would be to have the taco salad as a smaller portion. I really enjoy the taco salad, but I can't finish it all. It would be nice to have a small portion of the taco salad. read more

Eaten there four time in the past two weeks. Twice I had breakfast and that was ok. Twice I had dinner and thus was the worst dinner I've ever had in a diner. I had a he meatloaf dinner and it was burnt and had ok a hockey puck and it came with onion rings that were burnt. The next m al I had there was a burger with chili. My hotel was across the parking lot from this diner, so I thought I'd try it out. The place was PACKED for a Sunday lunch. But there's really not a lot in mandera, so maybe this is it. The place reminded me of Denny's, just with nicer staff though. I got the steak and eggs. For the price it was good. Steak was decent. Hash browns were quite overlooked, but it was pretty filled up already with the eggs. Good portion size. Nothing fancy, but f you're hungry for breakfast/brunch, then you'll definitely have some options. I was going to come the evening before to grab a beer but it didn't seem like they had any.
