I was in downtown Glendale the other day for business and we decided to walk over to Bitzee Mama's for a quick lunch. Well, it was anything but quick. They really weren't that busy, and we waited 10 minutes to be seated, then 15 minutes to put in our order. Needless to say I was rushed at the end to eat and return to my meeting, gratefully the chairman was with me for lunch. The menu offers a nice Mexican and American dishes, but I would suggest the Mexican side, come on, that is obviously their thing, specials of Tamales and such, you can go to McDonald's and get a hamburger (without the wait of course). I ordered the Burrito Enchilada style, which was good and authentic. Once the food arrived, it was hot and had the typical Sonoran taste that you get in Phoenix. The food was good and kept this review above 1 star which is where the service was putting it. They really need to come up with a new culture of customer satisfaction and quick pace to keep their reviews from continuing to decline. read more

We went to Glendale to see Glendale Glitter and dinner. Great location and Mexican food in old town Glendale must be good right? Wrong! It was terrible. It didn't smell right and none of the five of us liked it. Food tasted old. Avacado bad pretty hard to screw up rice but they managed to do it. read more

A very busy place we came in one server for like 2 big tables and 4 smaller tables. Got Our Drinks fast though. Food was good I got the steak and eggs but the steak was very thin and I like mine mooing and it was cooked all the way which is easy to do since the steak was thin. Getting refills took awhile. Finally more servers came on but service was just decent afterwards. Pancakes was amazingly good. Overall I do like the place alot and our server was nice. read more

Terrible service! Waited 5 minutes just to be seated and there was plenty of seats available. The staff stood around instead of helping. When seated we were forgotten about for 25 minutes while the waitress was on the other side of the room drinking a soda, checked her phone and texted, then proceeded to complain about another employees performance to another co worker who was sitting down eating. When finally was able to place our order nearly seconds before I was going to just leave the complaining waitress was pleasant to us. Food came quickly. Tamales had barely no filling mostly masa and sauce. Waitress asked if i wanted some of their famous hot sauce I said yes. Well lets just say the waitress went back to complaining and I never recieved that sauce. I've had better Mexican food in Alaska and that says a lot considering I'm in Phoenix! If you find yourself in downtown Glendale looking for a great restaurant this is spot. Its a place for comfort food and an easy vibe. I have been coming here for years, the owners know I order off menu and don't disappoint with the food. Yes, the tables show some miles, the booths are not where you want to sit the whole day, but its a place where you take the future in laws to show 'you get them' and your are not about the offerings of the wine list. Went here for dinner because it's right across the street from Murphy Park where the holiday lights are. We all wanted a Margarita but we learned they DO NOT have a liquor license!?!? Oh and the sodas on the list they didn't have either. Our waitress was rude and would not admit that they got the order wrong and would not remake the dish. The other staff rattled the dish cart across the bare concrete floor several times during our meal. My chicken burrito was just that, 100% chicken, no rice or beans or cheese inside. I also couldn't believe they LOCKED the door at 7pm!!! It's very heartbreaking to see a Main Street die. There's no reason a Mexican restaurant should be this bad at this location. Have not been here for a couple of years. First impression, the place looks run down and old. The place was half empty. Found out that they let go of half of the building because the just weren't doing the business. After 10 minutes here I know why. Most dishes are between 10 and 12 bucks. On the top of the menu they say the first serving of chips and salsa are free. Refills are 1.99. How petty, most restraunts give you all you want as long as your paying for a meal. And the salsa, really more like salsa flavored water. Not many vegetables in it. They were selling tamales outside to draw business, but there is only one dish on the menu that offered tamales. Combo number 6. Oh, and unlike most of the competition out there. The combo's only come with rice, no beans. For the same money, you would get a better deal at philibertoes. read more

The food was alright, my biggest complaint was the waitress we had was super rude. Barely talked. Never checked on us, the other waitresses did. Never smiled, and when asked for hot sauce she passed by and set it on the far end of the table that wasn't even in arms reach. Every one else was friendly and breakfast was good. read more

Giving this place 3 stars because the wait staff member tried her best and that's all we can ask for. And also because I'm a lover of family owned and operated business and all about investing in local mom and pop restaurants/businesses. Visited this venue after hearing that is was a hidden gem during Glendale Glitters. The first time we stopped in, there wasn't a hostess at the front of the house. We waited around for about 5 minutes before we were approached by someone and advised that the restaurant was hosting a private party, that evening and not available to other diners. No worries, at all. We tried back again a few weeks later. The food quality does not match the cost. The selection is limited but our wait staff member was really sweet. The cheese crisp starter was super oily. You couldn't pick up a piece to eat or even plate without a stream of oily cheese falling off of the tortilla. The fish tacos were pretty much frozen then fried fish sticks, on a corn tortilla. Not freshly battered fish. The second plate had more lettuce garnish than anything else. Very small portion of rice and beans. And the beans are also topped with the same oily yellow cheese product, as the cheese crisp starter. The venue decor is really run down unfortunately. The seats in some areas are pretty worn down and uncomfortable to sit in. This matters because the time from initial sit down to check time is about an hour to an hour and a half. Definitely make your own opinion about this place and post a review after visiting. I definitely won't be going back. But I still highly encourage investing in local and independently owned/operated. read more

So glad I came action this little Mexican restaurant .. Was shopping in the area with a party of 8.. Greeted immediately and served delicious complimentary chips and salsa.. they have a great lunch variety and I noticed on the menu they serve breakfast as well.. we had delicious taco salad, enchilada, tacos and their refried beans and rice were perfect.. Great service and clean environment .. the inside is not fancy but you will love the food ... we will definitely return!! read more

Went to eat with a friend and they ran out of what I ordered and substituted it without telling me and when she served it she asked me what I ordered, this or that, and then went on to tell me that they ran out of what I wanted. I'm not sure if she was just playing dumb. So, I told her, next time you run out, the guest would appreciate to know before you serve the food, because if I had known, I would have ordered something different. She apologized, came back, and said she told the manager, and it was free. So I said thank you I appreciated that. So all I paid for on the bill was my friends food and our drinks, and I did tip her because she communicated my issue with the manager. But because of how she handled it by serving me food I didn't order, it wasn't a very enjoyable experience. I felt like she had a cold, negative attitude, so I'm never going back. I left feeling really bad. I don't usually have money to go out to eat at a nice restaurant, so I just feel really disappointed. I'm not going out to a restaurant for a while over this. I don't want to waste my money on something like a server putting a damper on my experience that is supposed to be enjoyable. Oh yeah, and the food I received was terrible. read more

Last Saturday after the parade and listening to the Sounds of the Southwest Singers in the park. My family (including two children) and I walked over to Bitzee Mama's. This is a family owned restaurant with a lot of history, it is moderately priced the food is authentic, and very good. In addition, contrary to some of these reviews we found the service to be excellent. Some would say this is a whole in the wall. If you are looking for fancy, to impress because of the interior decorations, a romantic atmosphere, and an expensive restaurant this is not your place, but if you are looking for my above description Bitzee Mama's is a five star in my opinion. read more

DISGUSTING. From the atmosphere to the food. Old, run down, holes in chairs, wobbly tables, dirty restrooms... Immediate turn off from the get go. I thought maybe the food would be ok, it was not. I had the two shredded beef taco combo. The shells were store bought, not homemade. The tacos, beans, and rice were soaked from a ridiculous amount of liquid on the plate, I am assuming from the shredded beef. It was less than mediocre food. Here's the kicker - the waitress even screwed up our tab! She did the math completely wrong. She totaled up food, tax, and gratuity (6 or more you get 16% gratuity added) and it was $176!!!! Whaaaat?? The real total was $82. Ugh. Got it fixed and left. This morning I am layingj in bed feeling incredibly sick to my stomach. Started last night... Worse today. Do not eat here!!! I visited this restaurant as part of a civic group annual meeting in the private back room. The meeting was slated to start at 7:00 PM Friday night. Bitzee Mama's had all that I desired in a restaurant. Delivery of my dinner was not delayed, the food was warm, quite good quality and well prepared. Once I had eaten, my dinner plate was promptly taken away. Traffic was low. I can say I had no complaint and would recommend the experience and the establishment. read more

If I could give no stars I would. The service was terrible, we were told it would be 15 minutes before we could be sat and there were 6 tables open. After we sat they took our order and after 40 minutes it came to the table slightly warm. The food was bland and I could have done better at home. I would go to Denny's over this. So - I've given this some thought. The food was okay - not spectacular but not awful. The service as well was okay - borderline marginal. The reason for the 1 star review is the waitress took it upon herself to add a 22% tip to my bill. Now, I'll leave a tip - even for marginal service - but I don't appreciate being dictated how much I should leave. A tip is something I give freely - not something the server determines. If the service had been exceptional, I likely would have left a 20% tip - it wasn't so I was going to leave 15%. Needless to say, I won't be going back. read more

Ok I had a tamale at the annual Glendale Jazz Blues Fest, I did not actually go inside the place. But the red chili tamale I had was bland and dry with shredded beef brisket at both ends but none in the middle! Where was the red chili? Three stars because these guys aren't even trying to be more than average. Not sure how anyone could rate them higher. I used to eat here with my family as a child. Literally my whole life. Grandpa was a building contractor and remodelled the interior three times I think... it is a shame to see it looking so bad now. The others nailed it when they said its a dump. The floors are trashed, the upholstry is a mess and the china is chipped, cracked, and stained. For me the service was fine, not great but certainly not bad. Food arrived in a timely manner and was hot. Had the red chili beef burro, taco and tostada. All three were good. The hot sauce was excellent. The salsa looked old and nasty, didnt try it. Giving he place 3 stars because the food was good. The owner should be ashamed of himself for letting such a historic place go to hell the way they have. read more

Our nine person group stopped in while experiencing the "Glendale Glitters" celebration for dinner. We tried to call ahead and make reservations but they informed me that they did not take reservations. I have eaten here from the 1980's forward to today, so I was familiar with the menu and layout. It wasn't very busy and the hostess got us right in and let us pick out where we all wanted wanted to sit. The menu felt abbreviated in relation to what I remembered from years past. Maybe this was a limited holiday menu? Anyway the food was "good" but nothing "popped". I got the feeling the chips came out of a big bag, not warm/hot...the salsa was "ok" but a little thin, nothing on the menu that you couldn't find at any generic Mexican style restaurant.... Overall the meal was good and the price was reasonable but I was hoping to show the place off and I was sort of let down. They did have live music and the guitar player/singer wasn't bad. Would I return? Yes, for a quick lunch. But I really think this place is performing below it's potential. read more

After the server realized that part of my friends order hadn't been served we had to remind once again, while the food was getting cold, to bring the rest of the order. I ordered the country skillet. It was pretty bland. The sausage gravy should be renamed to milk gravy due to the lack of sausage. Another of our party ordered the "special", steak and eggs with the steak order rare. His meal was served with well done steak so it was sent back. he received his meal once again but the rest of our party was pretty much finished with their meal. The coffee cups were refilled regularly. Our party of 12 was taken for breakfast without reservation and within the half hour of our phone call. Breakfast pricing was under $10.00. the hubs and I went here this past Sunday for breakfast. Our waiter was realllllllly slow, like we sat down and sat and sat for a good 10 minutes when a lady walked by and asked if anyone had taken our drink order, we said no she asked what we wanted. When she came back she gave us the drinks and said she wasn't our waiter but would go find him. He arrived and was nice. Took our order that was it. The food came out pretty quick. I had the biscuits and gravy. The biscuits tasted frozen but the gravy was good. The hashbrowns were lacking. Hubs got the special which had the most heavenly pancakes ever! Soooo good and so giant! Also I stole one of his sausage links which was very good as well! I will order this next time. Also at some point a freaken lounge act started playing! They weren't any where near amazing, BUT they totally made the experience awesome, we totally dug on the live music while eating our breakfast. Its not the worst breakfast joint, but not the best. Bitzee mama's has been a family favorite restaurant for as long as I can remember. Their breakfast is where it's at. Large servings, friendly and attentive staff and inexpensive. They are always very accommodating to large groups. Their staff is very involved in the community and it makes for good business. read more

Terrible terrible service! We wanted to support a local restaurant while visiting Glendale Chocolate Fair across the street. We were seated immediately, but waited over 15 minutes to have someone take our order.! Asked for someone to take our order but after repeated delays and being ignored, we walked out.
