Green chili burrito and a regular margarita
Shauni S.

I'm reposting what I wrote on Google Maps since I have an iPhone: I come here literally all the time, so I figured I should finally leave a review. It's a place I take friends when they're visiting me, family on special occasions, and myself when I don't want to cook at home but want a good meal that leaves me feeling satisfied without breaking the bank, thanks to their daily specials. My partner and I are here almost every Taco Tuesday, and, while they always check, the staff remembers our order. On only a handful of occasions, I've ordered something I didn't love. As soon as I said something (though the staff did ask, too, because they noticed I wasn't eating as voraciously as usual), I was presented with options. I've been looking into an out-of-state move, despite being from here, and not being able to visit Don Juan's is a legitimate concern of mine, lol. My usuals are the carne asada street tacos, green chili burrito, and steak and shrimp fajitas. I also like the chicken enchiladas and the bean dip! Omg, the bean dip slaps. I would buy the salsa in bottles if I could, particularly red.

Second time here and it didn't disappoint. Service is always fast even when it's a little crowded. Shout out Ana our waiter, she is great! My wife got the taco bowl and I got the albóndigas. The soup was super flavorful and came with tortillas and rice. Not a fan of the tortillas but other than that, love love love this dish. My wife got the taco bowl for the first time with steak and she really enjoyed what the bowl came with in general. However, the dressing it comes it doesn't really match the flavor of what the bowl has so she was happy to ask for it on the side. We think this dish would shine with a cilantro like dressing instead or a southwestern creamy sauce. The one it comes with taste like thousand island dressing. Otherwise she was very happy with the bowl and added the green salsa which is another yummy thing here. Totally recommend if you are in old downtown Glendale

Ok, first time here on a Saturday morning for breakfast around 9:30 and we were the only people here, don't understand it and here is why. My wife read that they have Gallina Pinta caldo and she has never seen it before at a Mexican food restaurant and she grew up with this so we to try it. She said it was "damned good" her words lol. We tried their red beef tamales and they were delicious, I'm picky about masa and these were very good. I had chorizo and eggs and the chorizo was not greasy and was very flavorful. They are served with homemade potatoes and breads which were very good as well. Their "Early Bird" breakfast special is unbeatable. Scrambled eggs, homemade potatoes, pancakes and bacon for only $6.95, yes, I said only $6.95. We need to blow this place up with customers so please spread the word.

First time at Don Juan's Mexican Grill in Downtown Glendale. What a pleasant surprise! Ordered a cheese quesadilla with green chile strips to share with offspring. Served with a side of guac and sour cream. It was perfectly cooked and very tasty. Complimentary chips with both red and green salsa. The green salsa has onion and celantro and a bit milder. We ordered two red chili burritos, a bean and cheese burrito, and two shredded beef soft shell tacos to go for the rest of the crew. All were very good. The red chili burritos had tender chunks of beef. Sofia was out server and was great. Place was clean and had an open airy dining space. Lots of local folks dining for Sunday lunch. All good here!

Absolutely DELICIOUS! A Must-Try Breakfast Spot in Glendale!…read more If you haven't been to Jalapeños Sonora Grill in Glendale, AZ, you're seriously missing out! I ordered the Breakfast Steak Burrito with added bacon, and let me tell you... WOW! It was so incredibly good that I completely forgot about taking a picture. I was way too busy devouring every last bite! That's how you know the food is GOOD! The combination of savory steak, crispy bacon, and all that delicious breakfast goodness wrapped up in a burrito was exactly what I needed. Every bite hit the spot! I came in hungry and left a VERY happy customer. The kind of meal that has you thinking about coming back before you've even finished eating! If you're looking for a satisfying, flavor-packed breakfast in Glendale, do yourself a favor and give Jalapeños Sonora Grill a try. Bring your appetite, support this local gem, and thank me later! Five stars, no photo, no regrets... just an empty plate and a happy stomach! I'll definitely be back!

The pollo was my favorite: well seasoned, with a nice crust and char. The asada was okay but needed more seasoning and a char would have been nice. The pastor was a little goopy for my liking; some char would have really elevated it. The Sonoran taco, with asada, green chile, and cheese, was decent, but nothing out of this world. At $3.10 per taco, or $3.35 with grilled onions, the prices are reasonable. The atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming, and the staff was very friendly.

But last night I was mortified by the lack of service and embarrassed that I invited my friends to come for Taco Tuesday. I get it: 1 bartender on a busy night who got quickly overwhelmed and behind. And then couldn't catch up. So service was a failure. But when you have five older women who are so frustrated they are actually thinking of walking out on their tab? Ball has been dropped. We waited over 15 minutes to place our first drink order; waited for our drinks; bartender never returned so we ended up ordering our food in the other section; and then gave up on ever getting any more drinks. By the time I got my food order, which got lost on the line, the rest of my party had finished eating. Funny, when we started to complain about the lack of service? Our checks magically appeared which should have swiftly and politely have been comped. The food here is pretty good but it's not enough to bring me back. And that's unfortunate. When I was running restaurants we always put a premium on customer satisfaction and the customer experience. Our complaints about a lack of service should have swiftly been addressed with a gracious "you are right. Let us buy your drinks." Or "something." Anything. An apology. A recognition that "we could have done better." It's not the servers' fault, but they would benefit from strong leadership on busy nights. Note: after complaining they did cut our bar tab as some sort of compensation, which we paid along with what we paid for our food. I Hope management sees this and begins to ramp up staffing on their busy nights because it's not fair to staff. On busy nights you need a strong leader who is not afraid to take control - and expeditors! I also hope management empowers their onsite managers. For takeout, I will continue to recommend.
