Abuelo's Dip Sampler
John H.

Dined: 3 people on 3/21/26... We came to sample their Steak/Chicken fajitas, Cheese/Chicken/Beef Enchiladas and Chicken/Beef tacos for our banquet... plenty of open space seating which allowed us to talk at a reasonable noise level. Everything was very well seasoned and tasty! The free chips and 3 salsas are worth it! The Abuelo's dip sampler is an excellent starter! We ordered The Grande sampler & Steak/Chicken Fajitas Combos. We ranked the enchiladas chicken, beef and then cheese. Steak and Chicken fajitas are well seasoned. We did book our banquet and will be back for other occasions!

First time here. They give you 3 types of salsas with chips complementary. Menu is pretty big. The portions are big too. I got the steak quesadilla. It was okay. Tasted like it had beans in the quesadilla. Came with rice and beans on the side. They do pina coladas. It was okay.

Great food, great service and great prices. It's our go-to for Mexican food!! I usually get the Tilapia Veracruz, which I love love love. Went off, menu this time and and was not disappointed.

I had an incredible experience at Abuelos Mexican Food in the Phoenix area! The atmosphere is simply magical--like stepping into a charming old Mexican village, with pillars, statues, and a ceiling that feels like a partly cloudy blue sky. The food was outstanding--two of us had the Mexican Stack, a deluxe tostada bursting with flavor, and one of us ordered the pork chimichanga, served with rice and beans--both plates were beautiful. The homemade salsas that came with the chips were fresh and vibrant, and the guacamole was incredibly creamy and flavorful. The drinks were a highlight too--you could really taste the alcohol, strong but reasonably priced. And the service was spot on--not too intrusive, but always attentive. I can't wait to come back!

Our second time to this location. Again I got the chile rellenos. They messed up my order and brought rice instead of the papas con chile, so they brought me some as a side. Food was good, but service was a little hit and miss. I could've used more iced tea but didn't get a chance to order more. I'm guessing we'll be back next time we're in town.

We've been to Abuelo's a few times, and it's always good! I came here for lunch this time, and I really like how open and nicely decorated the restaurant is. The statue, the sky ceiling, and all the paintings make it feel really unique. The portions are huge, and the food is delicious. I got the Shrimp Fajita Salad, and my son had the Green Chile Chicken Quesadilla, we both loved our food! Their salsa is super good too. Definitely coming back to try their happy hour and Family-Style Feast next time.

Abuelos hits different! Chips and 3 complimentary salsas: roasted chipotle, Roja and a pineapple verde. Happy Hour daily from 11 am to 6 pm. Great $5 cocktails and apps like guacamole, queso, chile diablo and beef empanadas. We love the huge helping of queso and the fresh and bright guacamole. The Grande is huge: share it between 2 people: Crunchy beef taco, chile relleno, cheese, chicken and beef enchiladas, beef tamale served with guacamole and two sides. The papas or cheesy potatoes is to die for so we always get both papas. Save room to the magical tres leches cake!

Really nice "high-end" Mexican restaurant. We had a lunch special- and I had a margarita. Their salsa is amazing - 3 different varieties of deliciousness Service was great!!

Wow! Came to Peoria for Dodgers Spring Training and this place is across the street from our hotel. Such a pleasant surprise! Wonderful service, thanks to Paul. $5 happy hour daily from 11-6!

We have been in Arizona for about a week . We finally found Mexican restaurant that brought us Chips and 3 kinds of salsa . My husband ordered Shrimp Fajitas and I had beef enchiladas . Yummy and satisfying

1/2 of this chimi had to travel home: so good!

Update 9/25 Tried their empanadas and was very pleased with the flavor of the filling and the dipping sauce. My friend loved the chimichanga and had to take 1/2 home. I still can't get enough of the murals and that great central courtyard area with the clouds ceiling, but hard to get good angles of the murals because of the way they have the light shining off them. Once again the server was superb! My out of town friend remembered the old fountain in the center and missed it. I had to laugh since my review last time stressed that too! *******

Very disappointed our two appetizers plates weren't clean but, with crumbs and stuck something. There was food stuck on the menus on every page so We asked for new ones. My husband asked for a new soda glass because he could scrape food off the inside. Because the other restaurants were all booked we gave it a try. 3 of 7 had an issue.

Beautiful restaurant! Service was very good and my margarita was great. I had a steak special that was also very good.

Not good at all. The food wasn't hot and the steak was cooked barely rare. This has happened the last two times. This was the third strike.

Their clam chowder is the absolute best in the state and since we went to Seattle, acriss state lines too in our opinion. Mom's too. When she was in the hospital after a stroke and refused to eat anything they helped us out with thinning the chowder down a little for her because we were worried it would be too thick. And this was the only thing she regularly ate besides frostys so we were so appreciative of the staff for helping us with that. It's a great memory we reminisce on, now that she has past. But as always love the food and recommend the fish and chips, get your cod grilled or fried both are amazing. Their calamari is amazing too!

I tried to avoid an all fried meal, so had their broiled cod, steamed veggies plate. I didn't want the seafood pasta salad and substituted with hush puppies (oh well so much for not wanting anything fried). The broiled cod was pretty terrible, rubbery and overcooked and tasteless. I really had to try and finish all of my meal. The steamed veggies felt like they were frozen and just steamed up. Hush puppies were solid but then again you can't go wrong with the taste of fried, right? They have a soda fountain here and seltzer water and lemons available. Place was clean and bathrooms were fine. Also, had an outside patio space too. Sadly, I really wanted to like this place, but everything was pretty lackluster here minus the excellent service. I doubt I'll be coming back here, unless I may want some hush puppies...

The waitress was attentive the whole time, bathrooms were clean, and I really appreciated how mindful the staff was with my deaf friend. That always stands out to me. The calamari was okay. I liked it, but my friend said she's definitely had better. I also had to ask for lemon with the calamari. Last time I came with a friend they were completely out of lemons, so I was glad that wasn't an issue this time. I'd probably try something different instead of the calamari next visit though. We got the Pier 88 combo crab boil with the "All of the Above" seasoning in mild. It came out super quick and was very well seasoned. I personally thought it leaned a little salty, but I also saw other tables adding extra salt to their food, so I guess it just depends on your taste. Portions were good and everything tasted delicious. Very kid-friendly spot, pretty loud and lively inside, and honestly a great place for hosting bigger groups, family get-togethers, or even just catching up with a friend over drinks and seafood. I've been here before and would definitely come back again.

We started with the clam chowder, which was extremely watered down and completely lacking in flavor. It tasted more like soup that had been diluted than a proper chowder. We also ordered shrimp with the Pier 88 seasoning, but the spices were barely noticeable--there was almost no seasoning at all, which is pretty disappointing for a place that markets itself around bold flavors. The service was just okay--nothing terrible, but nothing that made up for the food. Overall, the experience didn't live up to the hype, and we won't be returning.

Houdini), was almost impossible to find. It honestly felt like he had a timer set to check on us every 20 minutes. Sit down, water. Disappears. 20 minutes later, takes our order. Gone again. Food arrives, quick check-in. Then... gone. We sat there another 20 minutes just trying to pay, basically held hostage waiting for the check. At one point, we flagged down another employee, a woman with a choker and a forearm tattoo, and asked if we could pay. She said, "I'll find him." Spoiler, she didn't. Meanwhile, Houdini magically reappears to drop off dessert at the table next to us, then pulls off a tactical spin move to avoid eye contact with our table entirely. Impressive, honestly. Eventually, a new table gets seated next to us and suddenly, poof, he's back. But instead of helping us, he goes straight into a pitch about the lobster queso (which, by the way, wasn't very good). We finally had to flag down a host who literally told our waiter we just wanted to leave. After about two hours in what can only be described as mediocre restaurant purgatory, we were finally able to pay and get out. Bottom line, slow service, poor attention, and food that doesn't make up for it. Not worth it.

I also got their spicy honey ranch salad (tomatoes, cucumbers, fried onions, corn, pepper jack cheese) with falafel, same base. The second salad comes with a ranch packet *and* a spicy honey packet, very generous. I enjoy the mix of flavors and textures of both of these salads.
