Yeah, pretty sure they filmed a scene in this kitchen. My Thai basil dish looked less like a meal and more like a bowl of bone broth with three lonely green beans doing the backstroke. If I wanted to leave a restaurant hungrier than when I arrived, I'd just go on a diet. But wait--here's the real kicker. The manager (or owner?) had an attitude so spicy it put their food to shame. No apology, no concern--just a whole lot of, "It's our main chef! If you didn't like it, order something else." Ma'am, how does a restaurant make it this far with that kind of customer service? Wow! At one point I had to have this weekly. It was a beautiful addiction between me and their pad see ew noodles with their house made chili oil. Sometimes when I do take out, the portions sizes vary, which I'm not I love with. I usually order extra noodles (yes it costs more but I'm a hungry gal!) and a couple times the portion seemed to be a regular size. This is my only concern. However, Apple is great. She is very nice and the others also provide good service. I like to call my order in priority as they do get busy, as they are VERY good. The establishment is large and has a ton of seating. Loved what I ordered here! One dish in particular, "cabbage fysh wraps", reminded me of this dish I would get at my favorite Laotian restaurant in DC. The wraps have the vegan fish (or tofu) with fresh dill, lemongrass, garlic, rice noodles, and green beans. They come with this INCREDIBLE Laotian pineapple sauce. Came here later on a Friday for an 8pm reservation and was met with really kind service. Our food came out almost instantaneously after ordering (which felt a little sus) but tbh, the food was delicious. Seeing a lot of negative reviews on taste - we had some really great options that packed a generous spice even at the recommended medium/mild 4 level. High key the duck three flavors (decent size share plate), the basil fried rice (perfect spice), and the pad thai (great serving size). Wildcard choice: the calamari (not just fried rings, but proper strips of lightly fried octopus) and the lao sausage (flavorful and with a nice crisp/char). My family gets Birdseye takeout at least 2-3 times a month, my mom is obsessed with it. We have a lot of dietary restrictions and they have been just above and beyond with their service and catering to our needs. Their staff are very friendly (and funny!), and the atmosphere is incredible. I love the decor and the dim lighting. I've only gone and ate inside the restaurant a handful of times, but when I have it's been great! I would say if you are sensitive to noise, it may be a little chaotic, but overall it is still a very family-friendly atmosphere. I was impressed by how many non alcoholic drinks they had available, I am always disappointed when I can't get a fun virgin drink and I've never had this problem here! They have a plethora of vegetarian options as well. We have had a couple of experiences where the orders are wrong, but they never fail to make it right by offering a solution. I would recommend ordering ahead of time, or coming in to the restaurant earlier than you actually want to eat, because they are very busy. Seriously we had delivery and the wings were a wet soggy mess and the satay was like chicken jerky , the pad Thai a rubbery glob of ugh ... had it not been so late I would have driven the entire order back to the restaurant . I have been to Birdseye Kitchen several times and always had a great experience. I almost always would order the thai basil chicken dish because it was so good! Recently, I decided to order takeout for the first time from the restaurant. The restaurant was busy and told me it would take 1.5 hours for the food to be ready. I was willing to wait, but when I didn't receive a text after 1.5 hours, I tried calling the restaurant several times and no one answered the phone. I finally drove to the restaurant to inquire and the food was still not ready. By the time I received it, it had been 2 hours since I had placed the order. The workers blamed it on the boxing fights on TV. Finally I brought the food home and noticed that the thai basil that I always order had so little food in the container, I was sure that someone made a mistake. The "meal" was literally 6 bites of food. I was so hungry after eating the meal, that I had to make myself something else to eat. I waited to complain until the following day (something I almost never ever do, but I was so sure that a mistake had been made). I went to the restaurant and the owner was there and informed me that no, a mistake had not been made and that the reason my meals had been larger in the past was because the cooks were accidentally giving me too much food and that she was now requiring them to weigh the food prior to cooking it. She also was quick to inform me that in thailand, thai basil is not a big meal. In thailand, food also costs $2, not $20. She told me that if i was unhappy with my portion, that i should order a different meal in the future that contains more vegetables (since the protein will always be weighed in the future). She never once apologized and made it seem like my experience was my problem, not hers. She also told me that this "one time" she would reimburse me the cost of the meal. I received a receipt that looked like the meal was reimbursed. I waited DAYS for the money to go back onto my card and it never did. I was never reimbursed for the food and was treated like I was trying to rip off the restaurant. Even though the food is decent at this restaurant, I will never be back because of the way I was treated. read more

Ambience was gorgeous as we first walked in. It had the airy Southeast Asian vibe that makes a charming environment to meet a friend for lunch on a Thursday afternoon. Service was pleasant. For food, my friend and I ordered a Stirfried Glass Noodles, Grilled Pork Neck and Vietnamese Omelette. The noodles were great, but I had issues with the Grilled Pork and Omelette. For example, the Grilled Pork was served with Sticky Rice that were hard and dry... like it's leftover from yesterday. We told the server and she offered to replace it with Jasmine Rice because they were out of sticky rice. Another unpleasant discovery was the wilted herb served with the Omelette. The Omelette stuffed with fresh bean sprouts and fresh shrimp iwas delicious but it was accompanied with lettuce and sad-looking wilted herbs. Man what happened to this place. The wait for the food is horrendous and the portions are really small. It took 40+ minutes from the time we ordered to the time our food came out. We looked around and everyone seemed to be having the same experience. It's a bummer because the overall vibe and atmosphere is still great and the staff is really friendly and attentive but sitting there for that long is ridiculous especially when you're getting basically half the portions you'd get at other Thai restaurants. The food does taste good but they need to give you more especially with what you're paying. We ordered 3 entrees and left hungry. Noodle soup on a rainy & cool day sounds perfect to me! This nice establishment is right off the 101 coast highway in quaint Leucadia. I had never been here before so it was a nice change of pace. The servers were all nice. On our visit we had interaction with three individuals and all were very polite. I got a house noodle soup. I just loved the description on the Menu...Bone broth, chicken, gluten free noodles (that are hand cut), Bok Choy and available vegan as well if you prefer that. Mine was topped with bean sprouts. I like that the noodles were pretty much bite sized so I didn't have to fight the noodles with every bite. The spice dishes/topping options were on the table already. Only qualms here is if you are claustrophobic and don't like being involved in conversations next to you or them involved in yours you won't really have a choice but feel uncomfortable. Since you'll be automatically sat, at a small two seater table for party of two, right next to an already occupied table. I don't really need to know what strangers are baking and that they are stating their sourdough shenanigans and who's still in Rehab...& because of proximity...I didn't linger with my meal and enjoy my soup there. I decided to take it home after eating only some of it. It tasted good. Though my husband did finish his fried rice dish. I did try it and it was pretty tasty too. Practically a communal seating arrangement. So if you're okay with that then don't regard my one star removal. The tables and seating could have been a tad bit cleaner. I had to wipe food off from the bench seat prior to sitting down and the tables and benches next to us were left like that too. They sat people next to us without surveying that it needed a better wipe down. I'm an ambivert so those who know me best know I'm a social individual that needs downtime after my extroverted self is exhausted. I couldn't wait to get out for some fresh air. Maybe if I came with a group of friends here I'd feel better about being the loud and annoying ones there. The food tasted great and there was lots of takeout being had and perhaps being delivered to customers. Maybe on a sunnier day, I'd like to sit on the outside patio, we'll have another visit in the future. *They didn't have chopsticks or Asian soup spoons for our dishes. Tried this place a few years later after my initial review. The online ordering was over 90 MINUTES. When I arrived 30 minutes later they told me "they are working on it" so I waited another 30 minutes. All the employees were standing around since it was 4:45pm on a Thursday, not doing anything. The manager was sitting eating with a bunch of people and even forgot to put in someone's order (at least the employees were calling her the manager). When the poor guy showed up, she had to run his order to the kitchen. After another 15 minutes - OVER AN HOUR later, I asked to cancel my order and they said "it should be up any minute" and wouldn't let me cancel it, They didn't offer me anything to drink. After all of that the food portion was SOOOO small for $18 noodles. I couldn't even share them. Such a mistake trying out this place again.
