Decided to drop by on the way down from a doctor's appointment in Carlsbad. It's along the coast in a nice downtown Main Street of Encinitas so no real parking but I was able to find street parking right in front. Service was really nice here but the food was underwhelming and lacked a lot of flavor. Majority of it did and I only tried 2 items and both lacked flavor. My son had pho and kept having to add condiments. We ordered the house special noodles which is khao piak. Very bland I had to ask for fish sauce. I did like the texture of the noodles. The glass noodles salad was bland and sour. It also tasted like it could've been more softer in some hot water since it was still a bit hard. My son's pho was bland. I didn't try the chicken drunken noodles I ordered for my nephew. My mom had the khao poon nam pla which is weird its called that since it consisted of shrimp. I saw a lot of Lao dishes on the menu but tasting the basics of the Lao food was not cutting it for me. Veryyy pricey for food that needs work. Maybe tailored to the taste buds of that area for their guests/tourists in that area. Nice views and breeze going through since it was like an open garage. read more

The food is always so good and the service is even better. I want to give a special shout out to LUIS. He was so friendly, helpful and we all really enjoyed him as a server. The wild salmon in panang is delicious but skimpy on the sauce ..The first time I ordered this dish, I asked for more curry so that I could put on my rice and they said I would have to pay for extra! I went there again the other day- and ordered the same dish, and again there was not enough curry to eat with my rice and the portion was smaller.... I've been going there for over a year and the food's always been great. The problem is sometimes you'll get your food in 15 minutes and sometimes you'll get it in an hour. The staff is awesome and attentive, but they are well aware there's a problem in communication. They either need more kitchen people or to have less tables. I hope the owners make a change and it would make this such a perfect experience. We love Birdseye because the Thai and Asian cuisine is so authentic and flavorful. It is completely Gluten Free which is why we go there, I'm a Celiac so totally safe! No MSG either which is so great. Sydney our server was so friendly, kind, attentive and just a joy! We hope we are sested with her again when we go back. If you are a Celiac, this is the place for you. They use onky gluten free ingredients like gluten free tamari sauce in place of standard soy sauce that contains wheat (who puts wheat in soy sauce anyways?!). Check it out! read more

This was our first time here. The only problem we had was deciding what to eat . When we did finally decide my friend got the pad Thai with chicken and I got the green curry with chicken also. My brother and I stumbled upon this restaurant and were glad we did. There was a wait for table service, but we were able to get two seats at the bar without a wait. Or bartender's name was Matt, and he made the experience of dining here so much better. The kitchen mixed up our order and he offered a few ways to solve it, all of which were great. The food was also great. We ordered a variety of items and noticed that they offer Roti, which is a fried bread - similar to naan, but better - which few Thai restaurants offer. It's fairly inexpensive and pairs with almost everything on the menu, so I highly recommend it. We even had others at the bar asking about, then ordering it. We'll certainly be back for the great food, service, and cool atmosphere. read more

The wait is almost always long here, and sadly I didn't feel like it was worth the wait. The pad see ew was good but I wasn't impressed. The dried rice was too oily for me, and the shrimp didn't taste fresh. They told us they were short staffed after we waited for 30 already but would've been good to be warned in advance. I understand the circumstances and it's the holidays. In terms of the food, it was solid. We ordered the pad see ew, veggie pho, and chicken satay. The chicken satay was cold when served and the. Decided to give this place another try after many many many years. My first visit was lackluster and unmemorable. Came back last week and was reminded why I wasn't a more frequent visitor. Despite the Panang Curry with duck (why they're even getting a 4 star) being surprisingly good as I knew it was gonna be a safe bet, charging an atrocious $36 for it is just wrong. I've never felt so robbed eating Thai food in my life. Base price of curry was $18 (high but reasonable), wild salmon or duck add on was an additional $18 (this better have been organic free range well picked duck) The menu is quite confusing ranging from Vietnamese, to Lao, to Thai cuisine, with a little bit of Chinese in there (chow fun). It's basically overpriced "elevated" Asian food. I say elevated based on the premium on my duck price. I don't know if I'd ever come back a third time. It's an OK establishment but I just know what authentic Thai/lao/viet food should taste like AND cost and neither hits the spot for me. read more

It pains me to have to write this, but unfortunately I feel I need to in hopes the owner receives the constructive criticism. We waited for quite some time to be seated at 5pm this evening. It was not that busy when we arrived. Then we waited even more for anyone to acknowledge us at the table. Ordered a beer and a Thai Tea. The thai tea came out quickly but it had half melted ice and was most likely sitting around for a while. The flavor was NOT what it should of been. VERY watered down and already mixed. Beer took FOREVER! Then we tried to order our to go appetizers. No luck as they were out of the fried calamari and the chicken wings. The waiter said it matter of Matter-of-factly as if we were putting him out. Ended up with the fried shrimp not great and the imperial rolls which were yummy! Waited more for water and another beer. Ordered our entrees. The Curry Noodles, and the Gai Lan pork. The Gai Lan was very tasty but the serving size should of been a child portion. SO SMALL!!!!!!!! I get cutting waste but when you leave hungry? Really? Now on to the curry noodles. Disgusting. Hands down the worst meal I have ever had there. Watered down and COLD................ Seriously what is going on with Birdseye. They need to figure it out before it is too late. Super bummed out! read more

Don't judge me but not a Thai type person so this was a different experience. The food was excellent. I had the red curry with beef which was very good, the calamari appetizer was very good and the pork belly was the best we had. The waitress was overwhelmed and service was sliw but wasn't her fault. She had too many tables. The only reason I didn't rate a 5 was that management has to work out a better system to better serve customers. Excellent food. I've ordered from this restaurant twice now. I love their food, but ordering through their website is a frustrating experience. Deliveries are handled through Toast and then passed to Grubhub, which seems to cause serious problems. The first time I ordered, my order was incorrect. Tonight, I gave them another chance. After waiting an hour and a half, I called the restaurant and was told they were still waiting for Grubhub to pick up the delivery. This is really poor delivery service. If you order delivery, plan on waiting at least two hours, and closer to three hours on busy days--and that's assuming the order is correct. Great food, but the delivery system needs major improvement. read more

I was really disappointed this time around. The portions are significantly smaller than they used to be, yet the prices have increased. A perfect example was the bowl of green beans -- $15 for a very small portion that felt more like a side than a bowl. the owner is extremely hostile. tried to place a phone order and she was extremely short tempered and shamed us for ordering on the phone. She got into a full on argument with us and when we walked into pick up our food refused service because we were upset about her treatment towards us. completely not ok and should definitely get take some hospitality courses because that's truly unacceptable. there was a nice employee who literally was apologizing to us on the way out, lucky that place has him I guess. read more

Extremely disappointing experience -- especially from the owner. My husband and I came to this restaurant tonight with our baby. We've been regulars for a while, and while the food has usually been good, tonight was truly unacceptable from start to finish. We were seated at 5:10 p.m. and waited 20 minutes before anyone even greeted us or brought water. When our server finally came, we ordered right away -- the same three dishes we always get which are two drunken noodles with beef and one yellow curry with beef. Unfortunately, it took an hour for our food to arrive, and when it did, everything looked and tasted off. Both drunken noodle dishes were shredded into tiny pieces like someone had chewed and spat them out. They were missing the usual vegetables and were cold in some areas. The yellow curry with beef looked even worse -- the beef was grey, chewy, and had an odd taste. Even the rice was dry and hard. We politely showed our server the food and asked if we could speak to the manager -- not to get a free meal, but simply to share feedback as regulars who care. The server came back and said only the owner was available, but that she didn't want to talk to us. That was shocking enough, but then right at that moment the owner stormed out of the kitchen, came straight to our table without introducing herself, and started grabbing our plates -- even taking one out of my husband's hands mid-bite. She said, "I heard you didn't like the food, so I'm taking your plates." We repeatedly told both the server and her that we did not want anything comped -- we only wanted to share our experience. Instead, the owner began raising her voice at us in front of our baby and other customers, yelling, "You don't like the food, I don't know what you want me to do about it. You don't have to pay, but I'm taking the food." This is not how any business -- especially a restaurant -- should treat its customers. We've worked in the restaurant industry and fully understand that mistakes happen, especially when busy. But what matters is how management handles it, and this owner's behavior was downright hostile and disrespectful. There was no apology, no acknowledgment of the issue, and absolutely no professionalism. I genuinely feel bad for the staff who have to work under such leadership. Sadly, we won't be returning, and I hope the owner reconsiders how she treats loyal customers who simply care enough to give honest feedback. read more

If someone were to ask me if Birdseye kitchen sounded good for dinner, I would instantly tell them to go somewhere else. To start the service here is incredibly unorganized. There are waiters running around frantically, one of them in constantly yelling, the server for my table refused to make eye contact with us nor give our table any attention. Water cups remained empty for over 20 minutes, waiters standing around ignoring calls over. The food took forever to come out, my partner and I are seated and watching multiple parties that came in after us getting their food 10-15 minutes before us. We ordered appetizers and two main dishes. It's took over 45 minutes for 2 summer rolls and they came out after our main courses. I even asked to cancel the summer rolls as our main courses were already in front of us. The waiter told us it could not be done and brought it out. The food is subpar, it is authentic as panda is Chinese. We ordered summer rolls, parram, banh mi and a panang curry. The summer rolls had no taste and were served with a peanut sauce and store bought sweet and sour spice. The param was mushy steamed broccoli and cold fried tofu with a peanut sauce just thrown on top served in a bowl filled with watery liquid at the bottom. The banh mi came with overly hard bread that was so tough my partner had to disassemble her banh mi to eat. My curry was the definition of subpar. Served luke warm with a tiny bowl of rice and filled with regret. Do not eat at this establishment, I would rather get frozen Thai food from Trader Joe's over eating here again. read more

I'm not gonna lie, two stars feels generous. The extra star is for the quality of the food -- otherwise it's a one star. We came in on a Saturday at 5:30. The restaurant was maybe halfway full. We stood for a solid two minutes at what I assume is the host stand while at least a half dozen employees stared back at us, but didn't ask what we needed aka a table. Mind you there was no line. Then the guy who did come over to us, mumbled about and finally sat us at a table. Once seated, we waited over ten minutes for a waiter to come over and acknowledge us at all. We placed a drink and single appetizer order. Our waiter was really friendly, but my guess is he was new because he seemed lost and like he didn't really know what he was doing yet. Before our appetizer came out, we placed an order for a salad and two entrees. Our drinks, appetizer, and salad all came out quickly and with no issues, and everything was delicious. But then we sat and waited and waited and waited. Finally our waiter circled around and asked what we were waiting on and/or if we were all done. When we told him our mains never came out, he was horrified. He quickly scampered off to the kitchen, came back, and explained they were out of an ingredient and therefore the kitchen was holding our meals aka not making them so that we could make a decision on what we wanted. Our waiter claimed he was never alerted about whatever they ran out of. Rather than continue to wait, we paid our bill and left. It was such a disappointing experience. We were so excited for a great dinner, and instead it was a disaster. The menu is beautiful and the food we did try was wonderful. The service was awful from start to finish though. Every person working seemed confused or new, or both. It was like they were understaffed and entirely unprepared for a Saturday evening. read more
