I was 35 weeks pregnant and locked out of my apartment in 30 degree weather with my 2 year-old and my dog. My key actually broke off while I was trying to unlock my door. Never been in their store but this review is about their kind and extremely generous employee. A man who works here was making a delivery in another key shop where I was trying to get a key duplicated. I asked the man working there if they took plastic. He said no, cash only. They're so good you don't always need them! I came in for help cutting off a padlock in an outside space, but instead of taking lots of money to do that, he suggested WD-40 to see if loosening it would do the trick. It did, and I now know they are helpful, honest, and definitely someplace I'll go back when I'm stuck again. Better service than the lock manufacturer! read more

Few days ago while I was having a brunch in greenpoint I decided to have my building keys copied, because my usual locksmith don't copy keys I went to Billy's . I must say that They guy was really nice and they made my keys really fast ( although they are hard to copy ) . When I came back to manhattan and tried the keys unfortunately they didn't work;( I'm sure I can go back and try to get the money back , but it doesn't worth the travel time. read more

These guys really helped us out. I had trouble with a key that we could never get a working copy of. I brought the same key to Billy's and the same thing happened. I went back the next day and they asked me to bring the lock in as well. He was able to diagnose a problem with the lock that any key but the original non-functional and fixed it for free! Beyond rude!!! to say the least. I went there to copy keys and all I needed was 6 keys. My total was $9.50 and their credit card minimum was $10. Really for .50 you'd rather lose a customer? They said either I buy something else or they can charge me .50 extra. I don't really care about the .50 but its the principal. I told them to give my key back and they said don't let the door hit you in the ass! i never expected this and they seemed like a reputable store. Than you!! I called around ten am with no asap and you were here before twelve noon to take care of a of a simple yet older building replacement on a lock. Your technician, HH, was awesome. He checked everything from the tumbler to the door jamb. My door as well as my lock worked perfectly when he finished and he reviewed what he had done. Awful attitude and service. If your business cannot manage to follow its own (limited) scedule, Billy, and closes on random Saturdays because they are "particular"(?!), the least you can do is answer the phone politely. I would encourage people in need of a locksmith to go ANYWHERE else. read more

These guys are the best! They fixed my impossible to open lock on my apartment door and made me 6 sets of new keys right on the spot. Craig was awesome! He even was so kind as to come back the following day to repair a jam in the entrance of the building entrance. Being 9 months pregnant I was concerned I would not be able to leave the building in case of an emergency. From the time I called to the time they arrived, not more than 5 minutes had passed. Despite the minimal nature of my purchases, he was totally helpful and generous with his time - even donating some materials for use by my students. They completely wasted my time! Here's what happened: I called to set up appointment, the guy didn't show up. I called back and was told how about the next day? I said OK. The guy showed up this time. I told him which locks I wanted installed and he said he"d send me an estimate. Days go by and no estimate. I call them and they sound confused, as if it was my first time calling. After talking to both Billy Sr and Billy Jr, I was assured that they'd send an estimate and do the work. These guys are great. No BS whatsoever. Let's just say that there is very little likelihood that anyone WANTS to ever call a locksmith. I returned from a great Xmas in Philly to my apartment, only to realize that I had left my apartment keys at my parent's house...cue the yelling, short tempers and holiday cheer, right out the window. I figured that a locksmith would be cheaper than family therapy. I called a number before Billy's and they were ridiculous. Always get a second opinion...I had someone on the line immediately, they were kind, accommodating and the prices were, (and I am no expert..) but they were what they should be. Anothony was at my apartment in 30 minutes and was an absolute godsend. He had a very calming nature about him. He did the job in no time and I didn't feel bad about handing over money to him since he did a job well done and he deserved it. Glad to know that in this day and age, that there are still some mom & pop shops in williamsburg/greenpoint. I have been to Billy's to get duplicate keys made and they have always worked (unlike any other store I have ever been to.) Yesterday, I went to find the perfect little piece (a swivel spindle) for my door handle so that I could fix it inexpensively instead of replacing the whole handle expensively. One man that worked there sold me the right piece after he inspected the door handle, but when I took it home, it was too long. Today, Billy himself took a lot of time to see exactly what needed to be done to make the piece fit. He cut it for me perfectly. He didn't just do a quick job to get me in and out. He took his time in diagnosing the issue and finding the right solution. I also appreciate the kind and friendly conversation with both him and his wife. They are really nice people and you don't get that everywhere in service industries these days. read more
