Miguel died recently and whomever replaced him was very nice, but one of the keys he made did not work.

Miguel is the only person in the store who can copy car keys and even when we call in advance to make sure he'll be there, we show up and he isn't there. Tried for over a month because he's the only person in the area who can do this and we were given the runaround each time. Just really disappointing as I'd read from so many other reviews that the service from here is great. Unfortunately I can't say the same because I never got the service. read more

They seem to use cheap products that break or do not work, still charge full fare, and ignored my many requests that they make things right. In August 2022, I called Miguel's to ask for two car keys with remote. Miguel's sent me a contractor to do the job. He gave me one remote key with working remote and one remote key that only worked manually. The young man who made the keys insisted that I pay the full price because he tried with two different keys to get the second key to work as a remote as well. He said he suspected the problem was my car - that my car was why he was unable to make the second remote key work as a remote. A couple months later, in October, the one key that worked as a remote stopped working as a remote. I called and texted the contractor, Sharbel, who did not answer or reply. I took the key to Miguel's and they changed the battery, but the key still didn't work as a remote. At this point, I had two keys that looked like remote keys which did not work as remote keys. The keys only open the car when I put the key in the driver's side or trunk lock, and they do start the ignition. I called the store. I stopped by the store in person. Noone helped me - they always said the person I need to talk to isn't there and come back, or call back. I left my number. Noone called. Then, in November, the other key, that looked like a remote but never worked as a remote, completely fell apart for no reason - it came apart sitting in a pocket in my purse. So now, I have these two keys (which only work manually, not remotely) which I paid full remote-key prices for. I have now gone by the store and asked for help 3 times. They always say call another day. I have called and left my number. Noone has called back. I have also directly texted and called the contractor who made the keys. He does not answer the phone or reply. I am at a loss - and would not recommend this business. read more

I definitely need to update this review to 5 stars after my last visit. I stopped by to get a spare set made and they had three of the four key templates available. The last one was an older style that they didn't have anymore, but they said they could try to take a shorter one and just file off the end to make it seem longer. I agreed and they said to come back if I had any issues. I live literally a block away. That one key had some issues, so I went back and told them it wouldn't fit in the deadbolt because of some metal covering I had on the door. He took off even more of the head of the key so it would fit and I went back to my apartment. Key didn't work. So again, I went back and this time, the guy asked where I lived and then brought a file with him and walked me to my apartment. With a little trial and error and some on-the-spot hand filing, he got the key to work perfectly. Now that's quality service! read more

Just had a terrible experience with Miguels. Surely they farmed my work out to an outside contractor who charged me $685 to change two locks during business hours. Called Daniel at the office, and I was shouted at when I questioned the work and the insane price they charged me. Like a true scam artist, he refused to listen to my inquiries and acted like I was the one wronging him, when I had paid him nearly $700. This was the most uncomfortable and unsettling business interaction that I have ever encountered. The front half of the lock cylinder to my house entrance fell off. The back half was intact. After reading the yelp reviews, I contacted Miguel Locksmith Service. I spoke to Jose who stated that he would not be available to the next day between 9:00 - 10:00 AM. Around 8:00 AM he called to say that he would arrive between an hour to an hour and a half. He arrived promptly within this window. He said the repair would cost $145.00. I thought this was steep but I am not at my best because I am home recuperating from surgery. He proceeded to repair the cylinder by inserting my key and screwing it back on. It took 3 minutes. I felt that for what was done the price was excessive. He then said he would write out a receipt on the back of his business card. AFTER COMPLETING the job, he then stated, I ONLY TAKE CASH; I do not take credit cards or checks. I advised him that I did not have sufficient cash in the house. I also told him that this is information that he should have told me last night when we spoke. This would allow me to make an informed decision IF I want to deal with a cash only business. He then stated: I will drive you to the ATM. I now feel compelled to leave my bed, get dress and have this man drive me to an ATM. When I arrived at the car, there was another man sitting in the back. This is the stuff my nightmares. Needless to say I never use them again. read more

I had a lock that was sticking badly in an iron security gate. I was not locked out, but the lock needed repair. A few months ago, I called another locksmith who worked on it for 15 minutes and gave up in disgust. Today I called another locksmith, highly recommended on this site, whose website guaranteed a 20 minute call back... which did not happen. Then I called Miguel. A person answered, not voice mail. A locksmith named Henry arrived at my door in 30 minutes, even after I told them it was not a rush job. Henry rocked that lock like the champion he is. What a pleasure to do business with someone professional. I called in this morning to have my basement door lock changed. Called these guys on a Saturday afternoon when the lock wouldn't open on our back door. You wouldn't think that would be such a big deal, but not being able to get that door open means no access to the backyard or washer and dryer, among other things. Anyway, they called me back right away with an estimated time, and the guy showed up right within that estimate. He worked quickly, got the door open and replaced the lock, which he had with him. This is my neighborhood locksmith and I feel really lucky cuz they're SO wonderful. Had the handle of my lock fall off in my hand the other day and called Miguel. They had someone here within an hour of my call to look at it and it seems the entire lock had to be replaced. Shortly after, Juan came to change the lock. He seemed very meticulous, checking and rechecking that everything lined up properly. When he was satisfied he had me try and retry the lock and key to be sure I was comfortable with it. Great, right? Well, then he noticed that the door hinges were coming out and he fixed that--it took more than just a screw. Then he noticed that the latch to the doorknob wasn't working properly, so he fixed that. For the first time in over a decade, the door works the way it ought to--it was like getting a whole new door! I have to add that the price was more reasonable than I expected, too. Locked out last night. Wife said last time it happened it cost her $350 and waited almost 2 hours to get in. They swapped out locks the whole thing. I thought she was ripped off and last night I was thinking we may be getting into a similar situation that may lead to confrontation. I own a multifamily brownstone and have been using Miguel locksmith for at least 5 years. Recently, because of several events which caused me to change locks on our front door and my apartment which has 3 doors, I had Miguel change the locks. The keys which came with the new locks were very peculiar and strangely shaped. When I asked about the strange keys, I was told they were high security keys. Well, they are high security keys. High job security for Miguel's locksmith. ONLY MIGUEL'S CAN DUPLICATE THE KEYS! So, if you need keys for a dog walker, baby sitter, friend, housekeeper, etc., you HAVE TO GO TO MIGUEL TO GET DUPLICATES. My house is not near Miguel's shop and this is a serious inconvenience. The positives: they came within the hour. I misplaced my keys while on vacation, and came back on Labor Day. I also live on Eastern Parkway where the Labor Day parade takes place. So it was kind've doubly difficult for them to get to me. My only issue was that I was quoted one price ($195) and was told cash only, so I deducted that amount plus a little more. After all was said and done, the bill came out to $290. So after having to deal with traveling, the nonsense on my block, and being locked out, I had to scrounge up more cash. It just seemed unfair, as I was quoted one price, and was told that price was the standard fee. Why the extra $100 was added on is beyond me. At the end of the day, the guy was very nice, repaired my lock quickly, and I'm happy as a clam to be back in my apartment. Just make sure you ask in advance if the price could change depending on outside factors and be very clear about how much you're going to pay in advance. read more

My lock was a mess - broken inside, the doorknob was broken, and the deadbolt didn't go into the wall correctly - all fixed in under an hour by a very nice man who also gave me 5 keys for the lock.
