3 hours to change my oil...?!?! I lost hours of my life here. Unbelievable. I don't have words.

So, I needed a simple oil change, googled near me, and I decided to make an online appointment with Big O tires. Called to confirm, Jackie answered the phone. Immediately impressed with her, couldn't wait to take my truck in for an oil change. She was very pleasant on the phone. Drove a few miles down the mountain to the Baseline location and was immediately greeted by Jackie and another gentleman. Forgot his name, but his greeting was very inviting. I explained that I made an online appointment for 9:00am, spoke with Jackie and she told me to come in per my online appointment. Here comes the "upsell and corporate shenanigans". He immediately pulled out his "trifold corporate upsell pamphlet" and began his sales pitch. I told him that I simply needed an oil change and his response was that they'll do a complete overview check of my vehicle for free. And yes, I did tell him my "check engine light" was on. I asked how long it would take and he told me a couple hours. I told him that I didn't have a couple hours as I had other appointments that day (conservatively, with an appointment, I figured an oil change would take 30 minutes). He then asked me to schedule another appointment in the future, and I agreed for two days later. I left Big O Tires feeling a bit discouraged, but I wasn't about to lose sleep over this. As I was driving home, westbound on Baseline, I decided to stop at Take 5 oil change. Was immediately greeted by a young man named Jose. Told him that I needed a simple oil change. He said he could do the work within 15 minutes, great! As I was pulling up, I went online and retrieved a $25 coupon that I applied. Fast, simple, satisfied! That's all I wanted for Mr. Big O's, but no. I completely understand that the business climate these days are extremely difficult and that businesses like Big O Tires have goals to meet, I get it. But the way a business earns your trust goes like this: 1. Proper greeting 2. Ask questions to uncover the guests needs 3. Offer solutions to their needs 4. Keep them connected to the brand Simple. Taking care of the guests' initial needs is paramount. Then, when all is said and done, you can offer/suggest other mechanical services and really detail what their business is all about. I totally get the corporate world; doesn't mean I have to agree with it. I'll never go back to Big O Tires Stores. Five hours after I made my online appointment with Big O Tires, I received a confirmation that my appointment is set, five hours ago, at 9:00am. I had a very sudden minor problem with my car, but major enough that I couldn't drive it without a quick fix. I called the nearest mechanic business to me when my car broke down which was this Big O. Isiah answered the phone and immediately knew what the problem was. He invited me to bring my car right over and that it would be fixed and good to go in less than a half hour. Isiah was RIGHT! I was on my way 15 minutes after I arrived. Isiah was absolutely amazing and the other staff working were great! This is where I will return for all my mechanical car and tire needs in the future! I've been here multiple times with multiple cars and they're always very kind and honest which I appreciate. today I had a nail in a tire and they were honest about trying to fix it but not guaranteed if the nail went into the side wall. they also always have snacks and water which I also appreciate. read more

I had a surprisingly amazing experience here! I say 'surprisingly' only because of the nature of mechanic shops & how I feel they usually treat customers, but, I have been to this shop before & it's been great. No complaints. However, this time was def review worthy. I was having trouble with my Audi S5 giving me false notifications on the dash & Isaiah advised me to drive it just a bit longer that day close by to see if it happened again before he charged me for work. The problem stopped. He gave me peace of mind & wasn't trying to make a quick buck. Then, several weeks later I was being notified my coolant was low & based on what I was seeing on the level dropping, I was worried there was a leak. Isaiah asked me several questions & advised that based on the age of the car & mileage, it may be the water pump. I asked for a quite idea of cost & he said he could ballpark but didn't want to mislead me, "let us check it out first, it could be a lesser problem". After informing me it would be about $1,300 for the water pump replacement, knowing mechanic shops, I figured there was no way it would come in lower than that or at least not be that problem now. After researching myself, it seemed that was going to clearly be the problem & how would I be able to know otherwise? Made sense & I was betting it would be that problem & they would find more work that needed to be done. I asked how long & he said it would be bout 30 mins until he could get the car in a bay & another 30 to get the coolant pressure tested for leaks. The car was in the bay in 15 mins & the shuttle driver that took me home was SUPER nice. I arrived home (I live about two blocks away) & Isaiah was already calling to advise that there were no leaks at all, this was merely a need for a flush of fluids. They couldn't see any other issues with the coolant or the car itself. They checked brakes, pads, rotors & didn't try to sell me on anything. He simply advised that I allow them to do the flush to be sure it's clean, cycled & refilled. They then ran the car & tested it again. No problems. Out the door for a FRACTION of what I would have guaranteed they would try to charge me. Jackie, the store Manager, was also heavily involved in the communication as they were slammed that day & she was super pleasant, quick & they work well together to handle customers. I don't often write reviews but mechanics can be shady, car work can be expensive & customers can be scammed. This shop & these two people do it right! I will be back & trust them going forward. Thank God they are close to my house & I can feel like I am not being taken advantage of. Thank you, Isaiah, Jackie, the mechanic who worked on my car & the two shuttle drivers. Much like many others I would give this big o tire 0 stars if I could, when going to get my 2014 Mitsubishi mirage checked out for a tire leak, and rotation. When going I also got the free break inspection. Which I thought couldn't hurt, until I got a phone call saying that my breaks were so worn down the cost to replace all the breaks would be anywhere around $1,400 to $2,000. Which would have been on top of the $45 I paid for my tire repair and rotation. After that quote I had them reassemble my car and I drove 3 miles east of baseline to Brake Master where I was quoted a quarter of what Big O Tire had told me. ($500.) GO TO BREAK MASTER, it makes all the difference. (They also said the parts for my breaks were discontinued) UPDATE: turns out my breaks were 100% fine, they just needed to be adjusted which is just around $90-$100, NEVER go to Big O Tire read more

I'd leave zero stars if I could. Why is this place still open? Judging from the other reviews I read, there is a trend of lack of communication, over promising and severely under delivering, and people's vehicles leaving the shop worse off than when they went in. My story is no different. My dad brought his car in for an oil change and Big O stripped the oil pan causing a severe oil leak. When we took it back to get them to fix it, they denied that they did it but no one else had changed the oil in the last year. The management staff would tell us that they were waiting for a part, then the car would be done by the end of the day, then they couldn't find a part and somehow no dealerships in the state had the part. When we asked for the part number, we were told there wasn't one. At this point, our car had been there for 1 week. The staff there is incredibly inept and lied to us repeatedly. I wouldn't have ever taken my car here in the first place but my dad is sick and took it when we weren't around to help him since it's close to his house. I'm running a $1000 rental car bill AND had to have AAA tow it to a dealership to get it fixed. It's going to cost us twice as much as it should have (it shouldn't cost us anything because they are the ones who did it) but I can live with that at least knowing we don't have to deal with such an inept staff. I don't even think their mechanics know how to do the basic services that they provide. This is the first of many reviews I will be writing because this experience was horrible and that place shouldn't be in operation. Save yourself time, money, and heartache. read more

Beware!!! They are doing some shady stuff. I went to get an oil change. The next day my check engine light is on and the car is sputtering. I took it back and asked them to check it. They wanted to charge $300 for spark plug replacement and tried to convince me the check engine light was on when I brought it to them the day before. I decided to change the spark plugs myself and found a hose disconnected. I believe they purposely sabotaged my vehicle to get more business. read more

The staff here is awesome! Juan helped me to get my oil changed and tires fixed. He was friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. He got me in and out quicker than I expected. I also spoke with the manager who was also extremely helpful and friendly. I can go anywhere to get my oil changed, but I like working with nice people. BEWARE CHARGED FOR WORK THAT WAS NOT DONE!!! I took my Jeep in for an oil change. They called and said my Jeep needed an alignment, engine filter, radiator flush, and some other items that totaled $1900. I had them do the alignment and oil change only for $200. The next day when we went to change the engine filter we noticed the oil filter was never changed. I went back to complain and found out they charge me for work that was never done. I got a full refund. If it wasn't for us changing the engine filter i would have never known the work wasn't done! read more

When back a few months for oil change and rotation the as me for my wheel lock that they lost and told me that they will still rotate it cause the have tools the manger there is full of shit look me in my eyes and yes we rotate then when I mark the tire and it was never rotate. They have made so many upgrades with staffing. It's amazing to see everyone happy, working together. I walked in for a flat repair and was shocked no charge. i saw the team communicating with each other, did you grab the filter ? did you order blah blah which i do not even know what they were talking about. No charge on a flat repair, asked for donation. which I gladly donated. Fruits, Coffee, donuts, super clean location! I am not sure about the awful reviews provide on here because honestly that was not the case here. Informed me of an inspection, checked my alignment. Gave every customer a welcome. Do not go here!!!! went for oil change and alignment. One person told me the alignment was not needed at all , it was pulling bc I need 2 new tires so I said ok just do the oil change today. They insisted car needed fully synthetic oil which I declined.. When I paid they had done the oil change and the alignment. I was told by another associate the alignment was really bad and they performed the service that I was just told was not needed at all. Of course I paid I didn't argue. This place is out to totally rip people off! I don't know if this was bc I was female but lesson learned, I'm never going to Big O tires again ! read more

I don't usually do reviews, but when I do it's because I someone was awesome. My tired popped while passing up the tire shop and as I notice and heard a leak I turned back around knowing the shop will close in a few mins and I was afraid no one would be available. A gentleman by the name of Dorian walked up and asked questions about the leak and with so much positive energy he helped patch up my tire and get me back in the road to work. Dorian you're amazing! You walked up quickly and happy to help. And another gentleman by the name of Isaiah helped make me feel comfortable with some laughter. I usually use this location and schedule shards of time but this time it was an emergency and the help I got from Dorian. I love this tire shop and would highly recommend others. I have been sitting here for over 2 hrs waiting on an oil change for my Jeep...as I went outside I noticed there were 4 empty bays in the front and 3 empty bays in the back..WTF !!! Wish I got a call or a text or call from them so I could find someone else. According to this office, their online scheduling service is not accurate. Confirmed an appointment to change four tires with the exact tire brand/size provided. Upon arriving, informed they did not have the tire in stock and instead tried to sell an off brand tire...which they only had two in stock. Disappointed to say the least. Like the ability to make an appointment, but they are missing the link to close the deal. If you made an appointment for a specific tire, then the location should ensure the tire is in stock (shift from another store or from the warehouse). Appointments should not be confirmed until the service/goods can be provided as requested. read more

STORE #004169 IS DISGRACEFUL & ABOMINABLE IN SERVICE! 6/14/22: I relayed to Maximillian Beauvias that the vehicle had not been serviced since 2018 and, therefore, I wanted a complete diagnostic service. In addition, I requested wheel alignment, oil change, tire rotation, and balancing. About 4 hours later I was told the vehicle was ready. I arrived to discover that the oil change and tire rotation had been completed, but not the alignment or balancing. Francisco Nunez suggested I return at 7am to have other services performed. 6/15/22: I returned at 6:45am, was 3rd in line and requested the litany of services that were recommended and requested. I spoke with Herb Peterson at 11:09am and learned he had a series of recommended services. I expressed my shock because the vehicle supposedly went through a full inspection on 6/14/22 and all recommended services were ordered that morning. Therefore, I couldn't understand why he was recommending services 4 hours after the vehicle had been there and, by my estimation, should have been well underway for said services. He apologized and said he would take care of everything. At 4:04pm, I received a call advising that the vehicle was ready. I picked it up at 4:30pm and, after asking follow-up questions, I learned that the rear wiper blade had not been installed, but it was on the invoice. Francisco Nunez offered to deduct the cost, but I declined saying, "After spending $800 in services and having left my vehicle for a day and a half, why would I return for or go elsewhere to purchase a wiper blade?" He grabbed one from a floor display and replaced the old blade. 6/23/22: At 6:27am I was notified by the vehicle's driver, Mr. Carlos Johnson, that it had a gas leak and was still pulling to the right revealing that the wheel alignment had not been completed. He took it back to Store #004169 and I was called at 8:44am advising that it was likely a fuel line issue. I questioned if the Fuel System Tune Up they performed a week prior could have caused it. I was told, No. I agreed for them to fully investigate the matter and advise of next steps. I also asked them to re-check the wheel alignment and spark plugs because I could feel the mis-firing after I picked it up on June 15th. At 4:27pm, Herb Peterson advised that the fuel line would have to be ordered from a Ford Dealership, so they would have to keep the vehicle. I then asked if the wheel alignment and spark plugs had been checked. He replied, No, but he would ensure it was done while the vehicle was there. 6/25/22: Maximillian Beauvias called at 5:21pm to advise that the vehicle was ready. I shared that Mr. Johnson would be there before they closed to pick it up. Before hanging up the call, I asked if the wheel alignment had been performed and the spark plugs checked. He advised the alignment had not been performed, but they would get it done before Mr. Johnson arrived. I then expressed that I would be filing a formal complaint with the Corporate Offices due to the horrific experience I'd had with Store #004169. He proceeded to share that before he was assigned Store #004169, it was known for poor service and that he thought it was getting better, but it appears more work needs to be done. I let him know that it's unfortunate that Big O is a major automotive shop in an urban area of Phoenix and that it's disgraceful that Corporate Offices have a clear conscious having an incompetent staff that repeatedly waste customer's time and cheat them out of services. Ultimately, poor vehicle services can lead to vehicular harm to others or driver & passenger deaths. Additionally, it's false advertising and theft. 6/28/22: I spoke with Mr. Johnson to learn if the vehicle was performing as expected. He advised that he returned to Store #004169 to retrieve the vehicle and was told the spark plugs needed to be replaced. Please note, the spark plugs were replaced on 6/15/22 (Invoice 004169-170550). Furthermore, as noted above, I'd spoken with Herb Peterson and Maximillian Beauvias about the misfiring spark plugs after I picked up the vehicle on 6/15/22. 6/30/22: I called Store #004169 and was greeting by Herb Peterson who stated that he'd received the above-noted complaint that had been submitted online. He and I had a lengthy conversation and he attempted to explain all the errors, missteps, and ridiculously horrible service. Ultimately, he blamed the staff for poor communication, for not documenting services, for not reading the service record, for not having a clear understanding of the English language, and for lack of follow-through. He made a commitment to ensure the vehicle was properly taken care of if it was returned to Store #004169 while he was on-duty. 7/6/22: Vehicle was returned then picked up on 7/2/22. A few days later, it was discovered that the gas had leaked in the driveway and the check engine light on. Note, the gas leak that was supposedly fixed when Store #004169 had the vehicle from 6/23-25/22. read more

Went in to fix a nail in my tire. Ended up in a worse position than when I came in. Despite it taking 6 hours, all they did was slap a flat patch on it. They didn't even plug the hole. This caused the tire to continue to leak air throughout the week eventually causing me to go to discount tire where I found out the tire is unsafe to drive on. Ultimately had to get a new tire (which thankfully discount tire warrantied). Would not recommend this location. read more

Told me it would be another 25 minutes and it still took another hour. They should've At least communicated that they were behind. I've had an oil change here twice now. Service is very slow so expect to wait a minimum of 2 hours. 1st visit I waited for my oil change to be done, took over 2 hours. 2nd visit, I booked an appointment for 10 am to drop my car off. Asked when it would be done, they said no later than 1:30. I showed up and didn't leave until 2pm. Idk how it takes 4 hours to do an oil change when I set up an appointment. I paid $68 for a full synthetic oil change as well... seems a little pricy for me though. read more

I have used the same mechanic for the last 7 years & haven't had anyone else work on my car. Last month I just happened to use Big O for a quick oil change because they were closer to home & the price was decent. After the oil change they gave me their recommended services that they felt I needed to get done, some of which described as urgently needing repair- over $700 of work quoted. Took it to my usual mechanic this week and they said 3 different techs verified not a single thing on that list was accurate or needed to be worked on. And the only thing that actually DID need work on it, was not suggested by Big O. An absolute scam of a business. read more

They do not enforce face masks. When I walked inside, people in the waiting room had no face masks on. I felt incredibly uncomfortable. The mechanic took his face mask off to speak to me while he WAS IN my car. I had to wear my mask while I was driving home with my windows down. Fortunately I had Sanitary wipes and disinfectant spray in my car, but I felt so violated. It is a Pandemic and our hospitals are full!!! I cannot risk getting myself or my son sick. Please! Wear a mask ESPECIALLY if the customer you are speaking with has an N95 on! We will only get through this safely and reopen our economy if we practice prevention and eradication. I can not go back to this location. Be safe! Wear your mask. They work! read more

After some good service recovery when my brother had an issue at this location, I was willing to try this location again. Unfortunately, their service is not as good as the efforts they made to make up for a previously poor experience. The service is extremely slow. The employees seemed more interested in up selling other services and products. I found myself having to question each charge and restate what services I wanted. As a female I am often treated differently than males seeking automotive services. Sadly, this location was one of the worst I experienced in recent years. I appreciate the convenience of being near my home - but the time it took and the manner in which I was treated mean that it is worth driving further to receive respectful, quality service. read more

I wish I could give 0 stars but unfortunately I had to give the one I did. I scheduled an appt online for today May 8th @ 1pm on May 7th. It was confirmed first thing the morning of the 8th (picture below). My daughter arrived about 5 mins early for her appt. I spoke to her multiple times throughout the time she was there but she wanted to handle it. When 5pm hit I was no longer willing to not intervene because I was livid. So at 5:23pm I called. I asked to speak to a supervisor and Terrance informs he is, so I began to explain that she had been there since 1, he then attempted to get smart with me, "is that what you called for"??? Excuse me, hell yea it is, what's the purpose of making an appt if you are going to spend half your day still waiting. He then went on to explain some irrelevant information to me about the number of people who called off, sir as the customer, that is not my problem, the fact that you were aware that you were completely short staffed, you didn't choose to inform your customers and offer alternative solutions ie, reschedule, come back in an hour or at the very least inform your guests of the tremendous wait time so they can make the choice for themselves. That is basic customer service, it's not even anything exceptional or going above and beyond, it's just good business. As a business owner, you don't hijack people's time without giving them a choice. It's inconsiderate, unprofessional, bad customer service, horrible business practice and amateur behavior for such a huge company. Lastly, when you realized the purpose of my call, instead of getting smart with me, you should've 1. apologized, 2. empathized, 3. offered something for the inconvenience!
