Just bought a 1998 Boxster and wanted to freshen it up so I had no surprises. Scott walked me through, actually under the car, and showed me what the best things to get done. Christina in the front office was always super friendly, great communication, scheduling, and detailed pricing to get the work completed. This is a family owned business that has been in the car business in AZ for a very long time. The price to fix a few things were a little shocking but I feel it's a way better value than a Porsche dealership. It is also the price you pay for a dependable mechanic especially a Porsche mechanic. The Boxster is running smooth just like brand new. If anything comes up with the car I know where I'm going... read more

The air suspension on my Cayenne GTS failed, and after reading positive reviews of McIlvain on Rennlist, I decided to reach out to them. The local dealer quoted me around $9,500 for the replacement, but McIlvain estimated they could do it for about half that price. Since this is a common repair they have extensive experience with, I felt confident moving forward. We scheduled a time, and I dropped off the car. The repair was flawless--completed on time and exactly on budget. From now on, I'll be using McIlvain for all my service needs, including routine maintenance. read more

I called three Porsche specialists to get quotes for a lowering spring install on my 2009 911. Carol answered the phone on my first try and obtained my information for an estimate. Posting this review for my husband Evan; It's all about being genuine, honest & the extremely positive attitude to listen & work with their customers. Recently moved over from another state to Phoenix, it was nerve wrecking trying to search for an auto service shop to maintain a Porsche 997S & an Audi Q5 that are no longer under warranty. We're so thankful that we came across Mcilvain Motors. Scott, Ben & team are just exceptional. Again, it's simple, customer is really taken care of through diligent diagnostics backed by their extensive knowledge & experience on these brands, and then items that require work are the only ones recommended for service or repair, and the prices are very reasonable. Thank you very much Mcilvain Team! read more

I know when my car goes to Scott and his crew, I will be treated fairly and the work will be correct. Once again they came through with a speedy diagnosis for my gas tanks' refusing to be filled. They will always have my business. Oh, and the people are great. read more

Brought my Boxster in recently to get the Roof fixed and some other issues like the water pump and coolant tank and oil change. Can't say enough about this entire team! They are extremely customer oriented and make it all about you. Great communication and very patient especially when working with my crappy warranty company. Their pricing and the combined technical experience brings superior value. They're integrity is second to none. They are extremely passionate about that they do and are more than happy to share with you. My baby will not be going anywhere else and she is all ready for top down cruising when the weather breaks. Thanks so much to you all! read more

Recently used McIlvain Motors to perform a pre-purchase inspection on an automobile I was looking to purchase. Needless to say being out of state and not being able to personally inspect the car,I had to trust McIlvain can do the job and they met that standard in fine fashion. Ben performed 2 PPIs with great description and care and I can see in their work that they take pride in their craft. After receiving my vehicle post inspection everything the PPI showed was right on the money, which I already knew would be the case because they communicated it to me so well. Couldn't have gotten my dream ride without these guys. Highly recommended read more

I recently had Scott and team refresh the suspension on my car. My car is over 25 years old and between time, mileage, and the Arizona heat the ride quality was meaningfully diminished as compared to new. They installed a new KW coil over system, control arms, sway bars, shock mounts, drop links, bushings and bearings... as well as corner balancing and lowering the ride height. They did an awesome job! Communication was frequent and the job was done on budget. I could not be happier with the new stance and ride characteristics. When I took delivery Nate had all my parts laid out so I could see the "before" and the "after." Great job. I highly recommend! read more

I have an Audi S5 that I love and had some bad experiences with a local dealer's repair department. So I went to Mcilvain and I'm so glad I did. Ben and Scott were both very friendly and service oriented and Ben took the time to show me both what is wrong and right with my car. When I picked it up, i felt like it drove better than it has in a while. I had to work a bit to get an appointment but it's so worth it. I'll be back here for all my Audi service. read more

Beyond happy with Ben and Scott. They diagnosed my 2004 Cayenne Turbo knock sensor issue quickly and for a reasonable price. Their extensive knowledge saved me from an expensive guessing game of parts and trial and error. I will never take my Cayenne anywhere else. A great honest shop that does amazing work. Can't say enough good about Scott McIlvain. Known him for 2 years, and been a Porsche owner for over 30. If you want sophisticated, excellent, reasonably priced service on a Porsche,.........get an appointment with Scott. You will know who is doing the work, how, why, when, etc. You won't get a latte and a loaner, but I'll take knowing WHO'S working on my car anyday. Scott did a great deal of work setting up my 2007 base Cayman for the track. Suspension, brakes,......a lot of upgrades. The car drives beautifully and I couldn't be happier. Scott himself is a frequent attendee as an Instructor at local PCA Driver's Education events. I love the fact that my mechanic is also a DE participant, is at most events and has a ton of knowledge and experience that my car andI can benefit from. The shop is conveniently and centrally located in Tempe just off the 202 and the 143, not far from Sky Harbor. You and your Porsche will be well-served by McIlvain Motors. read more

I can't remember the last time I put a review where I said I can recommend without hesitation, unequivocally, etc. but I have to say if you want a fair and honest shop that will never upsell you on things you don't need or overcharge you for work that is done, this is your place. Over the years Scott has been consistently a great resource. And when mysteriously weird things came up (and they have) he has had no problem hanging out for a few minutes and poking at the car to help figure out what might be going wrong. And he won't take money for taking a few minutes out of his schedule which I find to be an amazing degree of service. So, like I said, this is the very rare review where I can really say you can trust these guys and I can recommend them without any reservation whatsoever. read more

Wanted a Porsche certified technician not affiliated with a dealership to keep my Carrera S in mint condition. Followed up on a neighbor's recommendation and am thrilled with the experience. Scott personally checked out my car and made recommendations for improved performance. Left it with him and considered it in great hands. Just picked it up after several mechanical and performance efficiency repairs...and it purrs like a kitten driving and roars like a lion (almost) when accelerating. Couldn't be happier with my Porsche care! P.S. Carol is the voice of the company and the glue that holds it tightly on schedule. Scott, Carol, and the techs that all had a hand in my car care are THE best! read more

It has been a surprise to find someone that is trustworthy and competent in doing work on my vehicle. They have great care in how they work on our vehicles because they understand we have a passion for our cars and appreciate a shop that does not damage the vehicle because they do the job correctly. I look for a shop that is honest and trustworthy and the work done correctly and Mcilvan Motors has exceeded my expectations. If you have a car that they work on you can be assured it is done correctly as the factory intended it. CK read more

I had my car taken to McIlvain for a Post purchase inspection. I was very impressed with Scott's thorough work. He took many pictures and spent an hour with me discussing his impressions. After a number of years of owning air-cooled Porsches I decided on getting either a 986, 987 or 996. In my search for the car I spoke to my old shop that did the service on my air-cooled cars and just never felt comfortable about their knowledge of the water cooled cars. After purchasing the car I wanted to get a few items addressed on the car. I found McIlvain motors and gave them a call. I spoke with Scott and immediately felt comfortable about his knowledge and decided that this was the place to my Porsche taken care. After having McIlvain Motors complete a number of service items and most recently help install the hardtop I can only say good things. I have always felt I got good value for my money (not easy to do on a Porsche) with outstanding service (free pick service!) and advice, I would highly recommend Scott and his shop to anyone with a late model Porsche. For me the big plus is Scott not only services Porsche but he is also a enthusiast. read more

Scott and his team run a class act shop! Fair on their pricing, and very honest ant trustworthy! Not your typical "overselling'! Don't say I didn't warn you. DO NOT RECOMMEND AT ALL! So after taking my car to the dealership diagnosing the problem I decided I would support a small business instead of going with my normal dealership service. Boy was I wrong. I decided to go with this shop to have some repairs done and and oil change. The shop was communicative so that was okay. My service was complete and it was time to pick up my car. I paid my $3600 for repairs and got in my car and headed home. Something was not right. My luxury car now sounded like a diesel truck! It was so loud and rough sounding, nothing like I left it. I called the shop and told them about the never before loudness of my car and let them know I wanted to bring it back because something was not right. So I drop my car back off couple days later and they look over my car and say they can't hear anything abnormal. It's very obviously loud and something is clearly wrong. So I tell them I will come in and show the mechanic what I'm talking about and they agree I should come in and explain. I get in the car with the mechanic and show him exactly what's going on and he says oh yes this usually happens with these cars around this mileage it's the motor mounts! I tell him this is absolutely not how I left my car this was never an issue till after this shop worked on it. He seemed not to care and said they have sent me a quote on what it would cost to fix it he then says is there anything else I can help you with I say no. He gets out of the car and goes into the shop. I sit in my car in shock about what just happened. This was my worst nightmare trusting a small business with my car only for my car to come out with more issues than it went in with. It's bad business and I wouldn't trust them at all who knows what they've done to my car, that I now have to go fix. read more

I have not used McIlvain Motors yet but did send an email to inquire about an alignment for my Porsche Cayman. Scott McIlvain responded very promptly and let me know that his shop doesn't do alignments except for track cars but he provided the name and contact information for the shop that he sends cars to and the shop that does the alignment on his personal cars. I called the shop he recommended, Network Alignment, and scheduled my car for service. The service was great and reasonably priced. Many thanks to Scott for providing the referral since he could not do the work. read more

Scott is the man! I've never even met him haha because my wife always takes the cars in. She raves about him. His labor charge is half of the north Scottsdale dealer and his parts cost have to be even less. He is always honest and only charges for necessary parts and labor. Thanks to azpca website for recommending him. If you absolutely need a not so great lounge and a loaner car then I guess go to the dealer and pay more than double! Otherwise, go see This man - he clearly values YOUR time! read more

I cant say enough good about this experience, Scott took my car right in, looked at it and even turned down a chance to sell me extra stuff my last mechanic said would be due by now. Everything was done at a very fair price, I will take my Porsche here from now on. read more

I can't say enough positive things about this place! Scott and the team did an awesome job repairing my VW Jetta this week. No one better! Scott is amazing. He is incredibly knowledgeable - not only works on Porsches, he drives, races and re-engineers them! He is truly one of the best in the business. He might not appreciate me saying this, but he has always been available to answer any questions I have had regarding my Porsche. Talk about honest, I took my wife's car in recently, and Scott checked it over, no engine codes - no problems... he refused to charge me! Really? Who does that - only someone who not only loves his job, but the product he works on. Thanks Scott! A customer for life!.. Steven S. read more

Can't say enough about Scott, his knowledge, his integrity, and his customer service. Scott has definitely earned a customer for life. read more

I usually leave reviews up to my wife but I wanted to write one for McIlvain Motors. Scott is great to deal with because he knows Porsches and is honest to deal with. My wife's '09 911S Cab was emitting some type of vapor from under the car near the front, left tire. I couldn't figure out what she did to it NOW so I arranged to take it to Scott, who's been maintaining the car for a couple of years. The moment we drove up and explained what she saw (the vapor had dissipated by then) I didn't even have to finish the explanation as he knew exactly what it the problem was. Sure enough, when all was said and done, a small rock caused a hole that damaged the filter for the a/c. I was given an estimate and when the repair was finished was pleasantly surprised the price came in under estimate! I get anxious when faced with car repairs, especially her car as Porsche repairs can be complicated and costly but because of Scott I know we, and the car, are in excellent hands at McIlvain Motors. I highly recommend them. Thanks for everything Scott! Sincerely, Joseph read more

I first met Scott at the local Porsche Arizona event, he has maintained and updated my Cayman the last 4 services (over the last 2 years) and prepped it for Track and long trips. Scott is an excellent instructor with access to the AMAZING Inde Motorsports track in Wilcox,AZ. If you own a Porsche you owe it to yourself to take it to the track for a private lesson. It will make you a better driver and you will realize how sophisticated. I couldn't stop grinning that day, and look forward to the next one! read more

Amazing service with the best rates in Phoenix! I took my Porsche 911 to McIlvain Motors for my 60,000 mile service. The owner, Scott, came to my office to pick up my car and dropped it back off when completed. Could not have been easier! read more

After moving to Phoenix, I was on the lookout for a independent mechanic who was knowledgable about Porsches. Scott came highly recommended from local Porsche Club of America members, so I called him when I needed some basic maintenance on my 2000 Boxster. Scott himself answered the phone and was happy to chat with me about the car and take it in for an oil change an an inspection. I dropped the car off on a weekend morning, went about some errands, and returned a few hours later to pick it up. He walked me around the vehicle while the car was still on the lift and pointed out the various components that I should be paying attention to, especially those that are known to cause problems and normal wear items like brake rotors and tires. It was helpful to see everything pointed out in person and honestly it was just a treat to see the mechanics of the vehicle. I think any car enthusiast would appreciate the ability to see the components from the mechanic's point of view. And this guy obviously eats, breaths, and lives Porsches. I was charged a very reasonable price for the oil change, inspection, and fluids and left very impressed with Scott and his shop. After a little more time with the car, I decided to upgrade the base suspension to the Porsche M030 ROW suspension and again gave Scott a call. He provided me some information on the virtues of the optional Porsche suspension vs. popular coilovers used by many track cars and gave me a quote on the labor ($80/hr btw... hard to beat that!). I decided that the ROW would be right for my street car, and Scott agreed to let me purchase the parts and have them shipped directly to his shop. After the parts delivered, he coordinated with me to pick up my car and even went out of his way to allow me to freshen up the brakes while the car was already up on his lift. Again, before the car was back on the ground, he pointed out the new components and the basics of the installation and also alerted me to watch out for a potential leak in the car's water pump (a known issue). With the wheels bolted up, he took the car out for a test ride to make sure that there was no unexpected behavior or clunks out of the suspension and then recommended a shop for the alignment that I will need. I've rarely left an auto mechanic feeling so confident that the work that was done to my car was: (1) desired/necessary, (2) top quality, and (3) value priced. Every part of my experience with McIlvain Motors was simply top notch... If you care about your Porsche and don't want to hassle with the dealership for your auto work, give Scott a call and see what he can do for you and your ride. I'm very glad that I did. Thank you, Scott! read more

So incredibly happy with the quality service I received at McIlvain Motors! Wouldn't dream of taking my Porsche Cayenne anywhere else. Scott, the owner, was so accommodating and knowledgeable! If you're looking for a good and reliable place to take your Porsche, then I would definitely recommend McIlvain Motors. You will not be disappointed! read more

I am very pleased with the work (new brakes, new clutch, 60K service and a few oil changes) Scott at McIlvain Motors has done on my 911 (997) convertible. He truly is a great independent Porsche mechanic - definitely very knowledgeable about all things Porsche and provides a quality product that is very fairly priced. Compared to other independent shops I have tried in the area (and to the vastly more expensive dealer), he is both better and less expensive. But Scott is so much more - he is also a super-nice guy that takes a real interest in his customers and their cars, always willing to provide great (often money-saving) advice on everything from water leaks, to future service needs, to weak points in a particular car and design and what needs to be done to minimize those weak points. I highly recommend Scott for any Porsche related work, try him out and you definitely won't be disappointed! read more

Highly recommend McIlvain Motors. Scott is Porsche trained and really knows his stuff. However he is honest so won't sell you what you don't need, and has very reasonable rates. And for us Porsche enthusiasts who love to learn things, he will chat you up. It's also very convenient as he offers pick up and drop off service. It's nice to speak with the actual guy who is working on the car unlike at dealers going through a Service Advisor. read more
