We've been here two times now. The first time was excellent. But yesterday it was barely okay and the counter service was gruff and abrupt. SB Hans is located in the K International Market Food Court. You place your order at the counter and they give you a beeper to inform you when your order is ready. There's quite an array of dishes. We went with the Beef Bulgogi Combo and the Spicy Squid with rice. These dishes were high-end bento boxes. Other than the meats, these items are identical. Each dish contains, in addition to either the squid or the beef, dangmyeon (Korean glass noodles), rice, various banchan and an onion and beef soup. On our first visit, the delicious , slightly sweet beef bulgogi was the best I've ever eaten. On the second visit they dumped the bulgogi on to a lettuce leaf and mixed the bulgogi with strips of red bell pepper. And it no longer had the great flavor. I was noncommittal on my first bite of the dangmyeon, but with each subsequent bite, it rapidly grew me. Loved the thin little slices of scrambled egg that topped the noodles. I also really liked the slice of scrambled egg that had a bit of seaweed-wrapped fish (pollack or squid?) in its center. They didn't include this item on our second visit. The little scallion pancake was just okay. The onion soup (with had a couple tiny bits of beef) was okay. I poured some of it on my rice to add flavor. Speaking of the black sesame seed topped rice, it had an excellent moist texture, easy to eat with chopsticks. Actually, on our second visit they didn't adorn the rice with sesame seeds and it was a purple, not white rice. They didn't give us any banchan this time around. So based on our second visit, we won't come back. Man, SB Hans - you were our favorite in the K Market food court when we were craving for some good Korean food, but the past few dining experiences has been pretty disappointing. Their mul nengmyun, which was probably one of the best around the area, has drastically gone down in terms of quality and taste - the broth is not flavorful, the noodles are not prepared well, and the hot mustard sauce that is provided is watered down and has an off taste to it. Even one of the owners mentioned that the patrons who had ordered this dish did not finish it and was concerned in how the kitchen preps for it - but, there hasn't been any improvement whatsoever, so not sure what's the hold-up. The galbi jjim is good, but sometimes it can be a bit too sweet or too much cartilage; same goes for the dol sot bibimbop, where the prices are the same whether you get galbi or bulgogi as your protein choice. It's more cartilage and fat rather than the tender galbi meat, and sometimes, there seems to hardly be any meat in there. The prices are definitely on the higher end, as most meals seem to have skyrocketed in terms of pricing lately. Great Korean place in food court inside the K Market. Got lucky and it wasnt crowded. The big bone soup is as advertised, that is a BIG bone. To have naengmyun featured in a food court, I do think that you have to be a standard deviation better than the packaged ready to cook meals sold at the grocery store. I ordered Tteok Mandu Guk (떡만두국) which I had many times while I stationed in Yongsan, Korea. This was water with three dumplins, rice sticks with green onions for $17-$18. I complained & the woman on the counter & she told me that her restaurant was the best. I was in Korea & I know what a good Tteok Mandu Guk (떡만두국) tastes like. We also ordered Galbi-tang (갈비탕) slightly better but I would not eat in this place again. Then she came to apologize later & offered me a coke. You can't compensate a customer with a coke for your poorly prepared food. I lived in Korea for five years & enjoyed plenty of well prepared food so don't get defensive when I tell you that your soup is hot water & dumplings. I bought food from another restaurant which was good. I do not recommend this place; bad food and bad customer service from the younger woman at the counter. read more

Was a very pleasant lunch at the K Market international food court. This was one of newer stands and have wanted to try it ever since it popped up. Had a chance to try today and was not disappointed. Got the Number 1 which was a seafood noodle with tofu and seafood. It also came with a bowl of rice (which felt unnecessary) and 3 mini banchan dishes. Everything went very well together and for $13 the portion size was gigantic. If I wasn't starving, could've easily brought half home and had it for lunch the next day. The flavor was well done, the tofu and noodle texture was soft and pleasant, and the seafood added a depth to the broth that was welcomed. Only knock against it is some of the dishes were very pricy (in the $19-$23 range). I will say after this experiment will be back to try out the more expensive dish to see if they're worth it. Back in the food court of the K-mart in Annandale is a collection of Korean food stands that deserve a look. SB Hans is relatively new and they serve up a standard Korean menu of various soups, stews, and meats. Although they have decent standards like ddoekbokki (spicy rice cakes) with cheese, Tonkatsu and jjamppong (spice seafood stew), my favorite was the Spicy Soft Tofu noodles. A close relative of the jjamppong, but with more noodles and a bit less seafood. It's probably best described as Soondooboo with noodles. If you frequent Korean restaurants, you know what I'm talking about. Steamy, savory and just spicy enough, I'd say you gotta give this a try - it's not available at most Korean joints. I'm new to Korean food and, being new to Annandale, have a lot of places at which to learn. I'd been wanting to try Ms. Han's since I started shopping at the International Market, in whose food court SB Hans is located. I randomly ordered the "Cold Noodles", (buckwheat noodles, beef broth, beef brisket, pickled radish, cucumber, and (half a) boiled egg). It was served with a tray of banchan (3). When I ordered, I told the proprietor I wasn't familiar with Korean food and he said it would be a good dish to start. It did take a little longer than expected but, fortunately, I wasn't in a hurry. When it arrived, the proprietor showed me a clear sauce in a squeeze bottle that he said was typically used to season that particular dish to taste. It was an extremely fresh and vibrant bowl of very tasty (cold) broth. The buckwheat noodles were somewhat gelatinous, but the texture was not off-putting and actually seemed apropos to the temperature of the dish. Each individual ingredient had a separate and distinct taste from the others in the bowl. The banchan added texture and new flavor with each bite, and included a particularly tasty kimchi. Overall, it was a very pleasing dish and one I would order again. The proprietor asked if I liked it, and when I told him that I liked it very much, he suggested a spicy version on my next visit, "Spicy Cold Noodles", that has an addition of red chile sauce. Was excited to try their big beef bone soup after seeing it featured on IG. They threw a big bone in there along with a questionable big piece of meat. I don't believe the meat came from that bone as it was already separated and the bone was super clean. The meat had questionable colors in it, like a greenish/blue hue that I thought may have came from the green onions, but after a while, I couldn't keep convincing myself it was fine.
