This place was a huge let down. I was SO excited to try this place out after hearing people brag about how good it was... but then I left upset... We let a few weeks pass by after the grand opening and we let the hype die down before we even considered stopping by. We finally visited on a weeknight and the line wasn't too bad. We opted for the bar area seating as there were plenty of chairs available. We sat down and the bartender quickly dropped off menus. The menu isn't hard to read and it's pretty self explanatory. There aren't too many items on the menu so its easy to make a selection. I opted for one of their most popular selling sandwiches which was the crispy chicken grilled cheese and my sister had the uncle Jerome (Nashville hot). We also got a side of fries, one mac and cheese, and two large drinks. One sweet tea and one lemonade. The food didn't take long for it to come out. The presentation looked promising and everything did look delicious. I was excited to try out the mac and cheese so I opted to try that first. The mac and cheese was cold on the outside and inside was a tad bit warm. So disappointing. It was very basic and I can honestly say that frozen mac and cheese from the grocery store tastes better. Next were the fries. The fries were also disappointing. They were very soggy and flavorless oh and cold.. Next was the sandwich. The sandwich was actually hot (temperature wise) but not my fave. It has a weird sweet kick to it which is a no for me. The chicken was also very dry and the breading had no flavor. The Nashville hot sandwich was also sweet and a definite no. It was more sweet than actual hot. They both had weird tastes and just thinking about it makes my stomach hurt. The only thing I liked was the sweet tea. Sorry Shaq but this failed me something serous!!! The MD sandwich which looked like a fish filet was salty as heck and probably raised my blood pressure to stroke status. Sheesh, why so much salt dude??? Did not like this at all!!! The staff here made me uncomfortable as they kinda stood around in a group as if they were having a meeting or gossiping about someone...I was confused for a sec. The only people who appeared to be working hard was the Lady cashier and the Male bartender who spoke as I stood waiting for my meal. They were very nice employees. For a place called BIG Chicken the food was anything but. Only went once and was late so maybe we got the short end of the stick but for a place called BIG chicken I'm hoping we're getting BIG. The sandwich was honestly slightly smaller or about equal to the size of other fast food places premium burger/sandwich (McDonald's/Jackinthebox etc) the food was still pretty good but not sure if it's worth the price. (I think I got the Original Sandwich) Service was about what you'd expect for a closing shift about an hour til close so I personally am not too upset about the lack of service but I mean me and my friend WERE the only ones there and the person who took our order still ended up giving us the wrong stuff so we had to do some swapping on our trays. Again a nitpick but I guess that's what this platform is kinda for and up to YOU to decide. Nice place and in a good location. Was dead when we showed up due to it being super late but the surroundings were still pretty active and I could totally see this place being lively/packed due to the influx of people roaming about. Overall I was disappointed with the size of the food (mainly due to the name being misleading) Service was meh but again was late at night almost closing. Hubby & I had lunch here today. The food & sauces were delicious! Hubby got the Shack and loved it. I got the classic and added American cheese. I'm not a fan of pickles on my sandwich, I'm glad I didn't have them leave them off. They were really good; not the regular dill pickles. The American cheese is white. I really liked my sandwich too. The chicken breading had a good flavor & the chicken was moist. We tried all the sauces. They were all good, but the Carolina BBQ & the sweet & smoky were my favorite. They both were so good. We also got the Mac n cheese and fries. The Mac n cheese was excellent! It's super cheesy. I was skeptical about the Cheese Its on top, but it gave the Mac n cheese a crisp, and was really good. I really liked the vibe of this place. It feels very modern and open for a fast food style restaurant. The service was okay. At first, we walked inside and started looking at the menu. Someone came up to the cash register, but I couldn't tell if they were ready to take our order because they didn't look our way or say anything. Someone was present, so I am being nit-picky in that regard towards service I will admit. We also ordered a margarita. Not bad, and pretty decently strong in a good way. Now, onto the food. Honestly, I hate to say it because I like Shaq and we drove down from Phoenix, but the food did not have much flavor. Uncle Jerome is supposed to be spicy, and as a spice lover, I would call this borderline mild. There was no heat. The chicken was crispy, and the sizes were not impressive. I didn't find the meal to be particularly filling. I actually did enjoy the fries, but they too could also benefit from some additional seasoning. The sauces were not particularly unique, in my opinion. My overall review is this is not a restaurant I'd come out of my way for and unfortunately the fried chicken sandwich game is so strong that I can't say this would be at the top of my list to return back to. Ordered through their website and for delivery. $60 for 20 boneless wings, a sandwich, and 2 fries. 1.5 hours later call restaurant to find out their manager and staff aren't aware they deliver. I asked to speak to manager and he says he is the manager. First off, the place was very cool and open to the outside. There was an L shaped bar that separated indoor & outdoor. Lots of places have that, just a minor note that this place does too. It's not missing anything really. The staff were really on top of it and super nice. The food beats any pub style, dinner, food stand, fast food, ect for chicken sandwiches. I tried the Shaq Attack (get this!), and the Uncle Jerome's Nashville Hot (good as well). Went last weekend and it was fantastic! New owner that came around to make sure we were happy and the food was really good. I am a huge fan of Cane's chicken but this was so much better! The sauce (similar to Cane's) but more flavorful, same with the tenders which were huge, juicy and fresh and had more flavor than normal tenders. I also liked that while it was fast/quick food, we were also able to have a beer and the atmosphere felt more like a restaurant. My wife and I went in to Big Chicken for the first time today and we left satisfied, surprised and happy. The idea is basically designed around fried chicken sandwiches with a varied selection of toppings and sauces. Doesn't sound very impressive but that's where everything became surprising. We both just had to basic, original sandwich. A bun, a single piece of battered and deep fried boneless chicken breast accompanied by a mayo-based sauce and a couple of dill pickle chips. All in all similar in concept to Chik-fil-a (which I like) but elevated a little in that every single component was selected for quality and prepared close to perfectly. The brioche-styled bun was fresh and flavorful but surprisingly light. The chicken was perfectly breaded, not too much breading and not too little, but then cooked properly , done but not dry. The dill pickle chip was substantial and didn't get lost and the sauce enhanced the flavor without bringing too much heat. In short, it's just a really good chicken sandwich for a very reasonable price. It turned out that the guy behind the counter was the owner and he was exceptionally helpful and nice. We'll definitely be back when I'm jonesing for fried chicken. read more

The staff was very friendly and so helpful. It is set up like a fast food restaurant, with a full bar. The bartender was terrific. She was fun and quirky and poured a man drink. Back to the food... yummy. Hubby ordered the Nashville Hot Chicken sandwich combo... it was a sizeable sandwich, and flavorful. I ordered the Dunks (Popcorn Chicken) and fries. The amount of chicken was enormous. The chicken was crispy and yummy. They had dipping sauces that were made fresh... not bottled. The fries were crinkle cut, crunchy and delicious. This is not a typical chicken fast food place. They have forever changed my idea of a fast food chicken restaurant. Portion size is epic, and what a great price for the amount of food. The location is great, downtown Gilbert. An excellent location. And prepare to walk the sites of downtown Gilbert after the great food at Big Chicken.
