Well, as a Beyond Bread devotee, I couldn't let my last bad experience sour me on a place I've loved since college. Within a few days after posting my previous review of my disastrous Betty's Brie with an obscene amount of honey mustard added to it, the manager contacted me and gave me a gift card for the balance of my ruined sandwich. They really went the extra mile to make it right. So, I was in town over the holiday, and am happy to report my visit to Beyond Bread was as delicious as I remember it. In addition to a Betty's Brie (sans honey mustard), I even got some delicious carrot cake as well. Welcome back, Beyond Bread. I'm actually convinced you never left and last time was a one off. This is a local bakery in Tucson and worth seeking out if you are in town. Most of the time, we come here for breakfast pastries, but you have to get there early before the really good stuff runs out. We were running a bit late on this trip and all of the cinnamon buns were gone. My kids were heartbroken. I told them that if they'd have gotten out of bed earlier they might have had a chance! Fortunately for me, there was a kouign-amann with my name on it. That and a cup of Peruvian coffee made me a happy guy. The pastry dough was tender and buttery on the inside and the outside was crunchy and flaky, with a nice coating of a salty-carmelly goodness. Winner! The kids were disappointed that the big croissants were out, but I swear they made it through 5 of the petit pan au chocolat in just a couple of minutes: it took them longer to pay for them than to eat them (and not because they are that small). In addition to the prepared pastry options, they also have a full menu of made-to-order breakfast choices, although I can't recall that I have ever made it past the pastry case. The "cheese pocket" has been my favorite for years, and their "new" (sadly, it has been about a year since I have been back) pinwheels look to have built on that by adding some fruit jam on top of the sweet cheese. We have had the breads from here before, and I have ben very happy with my choices. Some of them have a thick crust -- ciabatta is one with a very traditional texture -- so you have to watch out if you have dental work. But, the flavors are fantastic and I would be here all the time if I lived in town. For lunch, they sell sandwiches made with their bread, and I think they have scratch-made soups as well. I swear just about every seat in the large interior was taken, and there were even more people arriving all the time. The signs at this location indicated that they now serve mimosas in the morning. It wasn't that kind of day for us, but good to know if that's your thing. read more

Love this place, miss the complementary bread but still a great spot. Usually get the Curry chicken salad or the Reuben. Good selection of soups and pastry's, service is always prompt and plenty of seating. Don't sleep on the hibiscus ice tea. read more

After spending a couple of days in Tucson, we were heading back home to Scottsdale and thought we would stop and have some lunch at this place. Upon walking in, the selection of homemade breads was amazing. You would think you were in bread heaven if you didn't know any better. My wife ordered a turkey sandwich and I ordered the Reuben sandwich. For our sides, my wife ordered the pasta salad and some chips (the chips were not included since she had the pasta) and I had chips as well but I also ordered a cup of tomato basil soup. Here is where things went sideways. My wife asked for some cranberry sauce on her sandwich since they have another turkey sandwich with cranberry sauce. To our surprise, the young man at the counter said "we can't do that, I don't have a button on my register for that". I asked if they could do a "miscellaneous" charge and again got the big veto. How can a place say no to adding what the customer wants? We didn't care about an extra charge. Anyhow, we went and sat down in disbelief and waited for our food. Once the food arrived, the pasta salad had cheese in it which she is allergic to and it was not listed on the menu as an ingredient. They also forgot her chips. The Reuben was good but not great. Could have used a bit more meat. Underwhelming was the word of the day here folks. Doubt we will be back. We are both still shaking our heads from the veto on the cranberry sauce. read more

Food is overpriced and is low quality. The food tastes like straight sodium. The staff are unfriendly. The staff seemed unhappy to be working there and were completely unenthusiastic. Also, the furniture, decor, and inside of the restaurant is very rundown and looks outdated. With the high price of the food that only gets you a low quality meal, it is better to spend your money and time at an actual restaurant with appetizing food. read more

Thank you yelp for leading me to this place. I had a turkey sandwich that was outstanding. So much in it, that the ingredients were spilling out over the bread. And speaking of the bread, I had the multi grain and it was seriously some of the best bread I've had this year. So fresh and seemingly healthy with all the seeds and nuts. Tomato soup was also great and I appreciate the bargain of a half sandwich and cup of soup...around $8.50. Service was super friendly as well. My husband and I stopped here twice for a quick breakfast while staying in Oro Valley. The bacon and cheddar quiche, the breakfast sandwich, the glazed cinnamon roll, and the coffee were all great. I just love Beyond Bread, everything is fabulous! I lived in AZ many years ago and when I booked my trip for work for last week, I knew that I'd be coming back here! The bread is to die for, along with the sandwiches, salads and desserts. I went for Annie's Addiction on rosemary bread (which was the bread special this day) and also added avocado. A half of a sandwich is definitely a good size, I didn't need the other half but seeing that it was so fabulous, I went for it! You also get a side with your sandwich, I went for baked chips. Maybe I ordered the wrong item here. My wife and I came to this chain for a brunch based on earlier reviews. I ordered the Pueblo omelette. The description sounded yummy so I got it. What came out was something far far away fro yummy that one can imagine. The omelette was rubbery as if the eggs were microwaved. The cheese was slightly burnt. The saving grace was the rustic toast that I ordered. Very tasty and crunchy. However, it wasn't good enough to save the item that I ordered. The price wasn't that low either which added insult to the injury (we paid about $30 for the food we got; we paid $40 for a dinner last night at Cafe Desta). I am guessing, as the name suggests, one should stick to the "bakery" items. If you are looking for a affordable, no frills brunch, stick to a national chain such as Panera bread or Atlanta Bread Company (ABC). read more

I love Beyond Bread! I usually go to the one on Speedway, but I happened to be on this side of town, so I popped in. The quality of the food is absolutely on par. I truly enjoyed my sandwich. I asked for a customized veggie sandwich on pita, and they really took care to make sure I was happy with the selection. The freshly baked breads called to me, so of course I had to buy a loaf of rosemary which was the special for the day. It was amazing, as always!!! I only knock off one star because there were a lot of employees just standing around visiting while 2 or 3 people did all the work. I always love stopping here for a bite to eat! Their food for lunch is amazing and it's a go to spot to pick up something sweet for desert or to bring with you to a gathering. I ordered our dinner to be picked up at 6:15, however they had no record of my order. It turned out that I messed up the order and didn't get it sent . The manager was really calm and kept trying to find the order and get me taken care of. Once I found out that I didn't order it, I went to the drive through and placed the order. When I got to the window, the manager, I believe his name is Frank, gave me a nice discount because I was there so long. That was unnecessary because it was my error, but he gave me excellent customer service. I have tried to send a note to Panera, but their web site is not friendly enough for me and I couldn't find a way to get that done. Thank you, Frank. No doubt this is my favorite Tucson area restaurant. If I could give a 10 star rating I would. Every visit at this fantastic restaurant results in excellent, fresh food and bakery. No doubt care is taken in the details to ensure the food is appealing and tasty. Then there's the staff. What a great team of employees. The cashiers are happy and courteous. Even with masks on one can detect a smile. The servers and wait staff are always willing to go the extra mile. The restaurant is always clean, making it pleasure to enjoy a meal. I ordered the Cajun Shrimp Salad to go. Typically, Beyond Bread puts the dressing on the side. This salad came with dressing already added. There was so much dressing the lettuce was slimy. Next time I'll know to ask for the dressing on the side. The shrimp was seasoned perfectly, and there was plenty of it. There were a few specks of what I think was red bell pepper, croutons, and a couple of butter containers, but no bread. Tried this place for lunch yesterday and was somewhat disappointed. I ordered the curry chicken pita and a side salad. The curry chicken was somewhat bland, the pita was "dusty" on the outside and the cucumbers in my side salad were wilted. Probably a little nutritious but not so savory or fresh a lunch. Before I left thought, I would bring home a loaf of their multigrain bread for my husband, which turned out to be a great choice. Curt's Club - Man this thing is HUGE! Turkey, Bacon, did I mention BACON? Swiss, lettuce, tomato, mayo on the perfectly toasted white bread. Did I mention HUGE? Its a double decker! Im so excited to tell you about my favorite dessert that I am not even going to mention the sides, like baby carrots, chips, apples, salads and pasta's are slighty more $. I can only speak of one dessert because this thing is so good I've never been able to get passed ordering it. Do you want to take a trip back to your childhood? Then look no further than the OOOH SO DELICIOUS lemon bar. Beyond Bread was my favorite sandwich shop when I went to school at U of A, and it was so wonderful to go back and see that the quality is still there! My favorite sandwich is Avi's Avo (turkey, avocado, sprouts and cucumber sandwich), and it is still as amazing as it was years back. What I really love is that the ingredients are all very fresh and the portions are hearty. Very torn on this one... Pros: Great sandwich, really good bread (we had the Pauli's Pesto and the herb foccacia is wonderful!), great bread to sample so you don't get 'hangry' in line, cool patio to sit on, great location. Cons: We didn't have great luck with the girl serving us behind the register- seemed super annoyed to modify anything (put it on the side- she just deleted it instead so we didn't get it), and generally unhappy to have us there. I don't consider myself a rude customer to be fair, being someone who worked in service for a long time- so I'm not used to someone returning kindness with a scowl. It took about 20-25 minutes to get one sandwich when there were only 2 other couples in the restaurant, which seemed odd... When we did get it, it was great, so no complaints on the food at all! Just the service seemed off. We'll totally be back- the food is good enough that we try to even replicate some of their great sandwiches at home in Portland! You cannot be helped but be impressed with the open space, light colors and the huge windows. Generously padded seating and lots of tables greet you. There's a community table (bar height) that seats 12 people in the middle of the space. There's a inviting semi-enclosed patio area that has plentiful seating. Obviously the menu is the same as the other two locations, undoubtedly of the same quality. This day I had breakfast - a BCT (bacon, cheese, tomato) omelet with roasted red potatoes and sourdough toast - no surprises, it was cooked to perfection and delivered in a timely manner. For those not familiar with Beyond Bread, it's a bakery, sandwich and coffee restaurant. The baked items include a plethora of breads, cupcakes, cookies, danish, and cakes; probably a thousand sandwiches (not really, but a deep lineup), salads, and soups. There's a limited breakfast menu consisting of omelets and breakfast sandwiches. It's casual dining, which means you order at the register and main items are delivered to your table after preparation. I don't usually give out five stars upon an opening and until I've had several opportunities to visit a venue. But this is Beyond Bread. It has set the bar in Tucson for restaurants of this nature, and their new location is no exception. It's obvious that the staff here has been well trained, there seems to be good management oversight here this morning, and food was presented with the same care I've come to expect at the other locations. Ordered the muffelletta since I didn't see any on yelp. Having having it many times in New Orleans I've had my variety of good and bad versions of this delicious sandwich. Normally coming in their ciabatta they were out so they gave me the option of white or rustic. Well I'm not a big fan of ciabatta but love the focaccia varietals so I notice it on their bread wall and asked for it. The cashier looked at me funny but I said it was normal. In my humble opinion, Beyond Bread and Fortunatos are the best sandwich shops in Tucson (ever since Susie's on Broadway next to Nadine's closed down about 5 years ago). Usually when you walk in you'll be put off by the line all the way to the door. Don't fret though, as the line goes quite fast and you can sample some bread while waiting. The kitchen service though can be hit or miss. It's usually only when you order a hot sandwich that it slows them down a lot. I ordered the Brads Beef which is roast beef, provolone cheese, green chiles, red onion, Russian dressing on white bread. It's so bad for you yet so good. Isn't that normally the case? Important note to those who don't know. Avoid the Ciabatta bread at all cost. It comes standard on some sandwiches (though I don't know why). Those sandwiches have a tooth next to them on the menu. Why? Because you'll break a tooth on it, its so hard. There is nothing enjoyable about that bread. How many times do they have to be sued before it sinks in and they get rid of that awful bread or at least stop making it standard on sandwiches? (Tangent over) If you have room afterwards try some of their awesome cookies. They also do the best banana bread and chocolate babka (Fridays only). read more

Ordered two sandwiches to go and they were amazing! My boyfriend got Maddy's Madness with chicken, bacon, provolone, avocado, lettuce, tomato, mayonnaise on toasted Multigrain with baked chips. He really enjoyed it! $9.25 I got Enzo's Ending with pepperoni, ham, provolone, pepperoncini, lettuce, tomato, red onion, Italian dressing on Parisienne with house salad. The salad was AMAZING and its a great portion. My sandwich was equally amazing and I can see why this place is such a hot spot in Tucson. The Parisienne was a bit hard, I'm not a big bread person so I don't know if its supposed to be a hard bread but it was a bit difficult to eat but OH MY GOD it was SO good. $8.25 read more

Babbka to those of you who are not familiar with is suppose to be a cross between a cake and a croissant, all marbled and swirled filled with chocolate. The top is glazed and studded with chocolate chips. It suppose to taste like several layers of crossiant-ish cake spaced by chocolate and all sorts of sugary goodness. That said, what we bought at Beyond Bread (Ina brach) tasted more like bread, and not even a fresh bread. We bought our Babbka on Friday December 3rd 2021 and we were extremely disanointed. As said above it tasted like bread and even that it looked great on the outside, once we cut into it, it was a complete disappointment! Save yourself the aggravation. I am sure they make other things that are good but don't go for the Babbka. And for Beyond Bread -why? If you can't make it the right way, just take it off your menu. Shame on you. read more
