I can't believe I haven't done a review here yet! I've been here plenty plenty of times, and have enjoyed many of their sandwiches and their bread. Today I tried the avocado toast, which was perfect for a brunch item. The bread was delicious and included a flavorful mix of avocado, tomatoes and a drizzle of vinaigrette. I was intrigued while visiting Tucson to see this restaurant on yelp while doing a search for vegan options near our location. If you've ever been to Panera this place is somewhat similar in layout and offerings. We got their for a take out right before closing but everyone was happy to help us and served us with a smile. I chose a vegan veggie option and so did my husband, and we were both pleased to see how much variety there were in our options. I'm sure if you wanted to get baked goods this spot would be ideal to try as everything looked and smelled amazing. However we were thinking lunch for the next day so instead stick with sandwich options. I'm sure it is much fresher on the day made but we both loved our meals and were glad we tried them. They had just enough sauce to make it not dry and a car it merry of veggies to make it a full meal. I appreciated their consideration in wrapping as they kept the bread separate so as to not get soggy! Thoughtful! Beyond bread is a Tucson institution. I am so jealous that there are multiple locations now as when I lived here there was only one and it was always packed and lined out the door. When I found out I was going to be in Tucson for a week this was at the top of my list of places to go because it just may be the best bread I've ever had. I decided to meet my friend for brunch one morning and I really had the worst time deciding between breakfast food and lunch food and really didn't know what I was going to order until I got right up to the counter. I ended up ordering a breakfast sandwich with ham and egg and cheese and green chilies and it was so good and the bread was just soft in the center crispy on the edge perfection, in addition to their many sandwich options, they also serve a breakfast quiche which I'm dying to try. But truth be told I could be really happy getting some toast and jam here, like it's that good. They also have a selection of coffees, teas, and lattes. They also have a collection of pastries, a slew of different breads that you can get sliced to take home and don't sleep on their cookies because their cookies here are really good. Honestly the food wasn't amazing. The service wasn't amazing. The girl working the counter who took our order was friendly and personable. However I ordered a quiche, went up to the counter after everyone at my table had gotten their food and asked the girl hey where's my food and she looked at me and said "well I don't see anyone with your order." A gentleman comes up to me and I tell him I just ordered a quiche he pulled it out of a microwave because they forgot it. The quiche wasn't anything amazing. Hardly any bacon or cheese. I think the bread here is great. There are a lot of traditional styles and everything is baked fresh. I would caution people ordering vegan food from this location. I got the vegan version of the Unreal Ruben. It came out with cheese initially, so I asked the staff to remake it as a vegan sandwich. I'm fairly certain there was Russian Dressing and/or butter on the second one. It tasted like there was more than just sauerkraut and unreal meat in my sandwich and I felt sick on my way home. There are one or two strictly vegan options on this menu, I'd stick to those to ensure you don't end up with dairy/egg products in your food. read more

I go here all the time but I also order delivery pretty often. Everything is always so good and accurate to what I ordered. I make a few modifications to my Rex's revenge sandwich and not once has a mistake been made. This evening I ordered my usual delivery order but something was a bit different. Upon opening and checking to see if I received everything, which I did, I found a handwritten note on my fruit tart. This made my whole day. To who ever wrote this, thank you. My friend has come to Beyond Bread for years and took me yesterday. Everything on the menu looked good but I decided on Kalid's Kurry: curried chicken salad in a pita. From the first bite I was impressed. The sandwich had so much flavor. The ratio of ingredients was perfect, and the raisins were super plump, which I always enjoy. For my side I chose the vinegar slaw that looked like it may have been a day old, as it had a lot of water in it from the cabbage, but I did not mind it. As I was too full to eat the vinegar slaw with my sandwich, I took it home with me and mixed it with some other vegetables, making a perfect side dish! The desserts also looked too good not to try so I ordered a carrot cake to go. The cake was great, though I did find the frosting too sweet for my liking. Overall, Beyond Bread is a great spot to satisfy anyone! I definitely want to come back to try more items on the menu, and hopefully raise my rating! read more

Just got back from picking up sandwiches for lunch. I ordered the chicken salad sandwich. My first bite indicated that they had not put the ranch dressing on it. So I got out some mayo to use and opened the sandwich to put it on. I saw that the chicken salad was chunks of chicken with at least half chunks of apple. No dressing mixed in with onions and things that you like in a chicken sandwich. It is way too much apple for my taste and not the way chicken salad is supposed to be. I would never have ordered an apple sandwich which is what this tasted like. Bummer about the dressing too. But I gave 4 stars because I have been here many times and like about 80% of what I order. I ordered a sandwich on the pretzel bread which was warm and crispy and flavorful and couldn't possibly have been any better. The chicken was fresh and tasty but I would not recommend the cream cheese chipotle dressing. A little too heavy and a little too spicy. But maybe that's just me. We were on our way out for the day to hike and do a jeep trail and we wanted to support a local business. We love Beyond Bread anyways and it was perfect to try their pick up. I normally call it in, but thought hey what a great way to save some money and support an awesome local business. I placed my order within minutes and it told me how long it would be. We drove and had to wait a little bit for our order, but was glad to see it was study with people going in and out. All the employees were wearing gloves and seemed to doing well with everything going on. We got an oatmeal cookie while my husband waited and brought it to the car. It was super yummy. It was soft and exactly how you would want your cookie to be. Once we got our food everything was individually packaged since we had 3 different orders. I will start by saying I love this restaurant. It's my favorite amongst any in the entire world. If I had one last meal I could request to eat before I died it would be the Maddy's Madness on rustic! I moved away from Tucson in 2015 and I miss this place me and more everyday. The food at Beyond Bread is really unmatched anywhere in the world. I've traveled to so many places and have ate food from hole in the wall to $600 steaks (yup! I've had a $600 steak) and yet this is really the only place I dream about and crave. Great place for lunch! The portions are huge. Everything I have tried here has lasted me for 2 meals, and are great for splitting with someone else. On top of it, everything is also delicious, although on occasion I think some of their food is kind of bland. Yesterday I felt the urge for a salad and picked up the south by southwest (about $10) which has their southwestern turkey salad, cucumbers, cherry tomatoes, red onions, a mix of greens, ranch dressing, and two slices of bread. Like everything else, it was huge and definitely worth the cost. I've tried many of the sandwiches and am a fan of avi's avo, mollys crisis, and Carmela's caprese, to name a few. So, Beyond Bread used to be a weekly go-to for me, and one of the reasons was the amazing turkey they used on their sandwiches--it was delicious without being over-seasoned, which is important for sandwiches. Then, during the pandemic, I noticed that the turkey had changed: it was highly seasoned, to the point that its taste conflicted with other elements of the sandwich, and had a very processed texture. Yes, Beyond Bread offers more than turkey sandwiches, but they were some of my favorites, so I stopped going there for quite a while. Cut to today. I decided to go back and give it a try, and ordered a Joel's Jolt which is supposed to be made with...you guessed it, turkey. You can imagine my surprise, therefore, when I unwrapped the sandwich and found *ham*. Yep, ham, even though, according to the menu, it should be turkey. Now, I don't particularly mind ham, but it didn't work with the flavors of the sandwich. Also, there are plenty of people who can't or don't eat ham, for health or religious reasons. To plop it onto a sandwich it's not supposed to be on and hand it over with no mention of the change is pretty much inexcusable. The sandwiches were delicious. My husband had a BLT. I ordered a Muffaleta which was way too big for any one person to eat at one meal. Ridiculous. We managed to deconstruct it so we could get past the bread to the good stuff inside. The olive spread also could have been more of a player on this sandwich. It soaked into the bread until it was indistinguible. I like the olive spread to be chunky and an obvious part of the sandwich. Your mileage may vary. Within a few days after posting my previous review of my disastrous Betty's Brie with an obscene amount of honey mustard added to it, the manager contacted me and gave me a gift card for the balance of my ruined sandwich. They really went the extra mile to make it right. So, I was in town over the holiday, and am happy to report my visit to Beyond Bread was as delicious as I remember it. This is a local bakery in Tucson and worth seeking out if you are in town. Most of the time, we come here for breakfast pastries, but you have to get there early before the really good stuff runs out. We were running a bit late on this trip and all of the cinnamon buns were gone. My kids were heartbroken. I told them that if they'd have gotten out of bed earlier they might have had a chance! Fortunately for me, there was a kouign-amann with my name on it. That and a cup of Peruvian coffee made me a happy guy. The pastry dough was tender and buttery on the inside and the outside was crunchy and flaky, with a nice coating of a salty-carmelly goodness. Winner! The kids were disappointed that the big croissants were out, but I swear they made it through 5 of the petit pan au chocolat in just a couple of minutes: it took them longer to pay for them than to eat them (and not because they are that small). In addition to the prepared pastry options, they also have a full menu of made-to-order breakfast choices, although I can't recall that I have ever made it past the pastry case. The "cheese pocket" has been my favorite for years, and their "new" (sadly, it has been about a year since I have been back) pinwheels look to have built on that by adding some fruit jam on top of the sweet cheese. We have had the breads from here before, and I have ben very happy with my choices. Some of them have a thick crust -- ciabatta is one with a very traditional texture -- so you have to watch out if you have dental work. But, the flavors are fantastic and I would be here all the time if I lived in town. For lunch, they sell sandwiches made with their bread, and I think they have scratch-made soups as well. I swear just about every seat in the large interior was taken, and there were even more people arriving all the time. The signs at this location indicated that they now serve mimosas in the morning.
