    Light Rye Loaf
    Sara A.

Finally got to try their bread today Light Rye - contains 60% rye so for those who are looking for minimal wheat this is the one for you. It comes in 2 sizes: small and large. Great idea as sometimes it could a little longer the finish the same loaf. Love how the crust is not overly thick and the bread is soft and fresh. Almond Croissant - I love this! It was not overly greasy, slight buttery tasting but the texture is the winner for me. I used to like the super flaky type croissant but not so much nowadays. This one is slightly chewy, somewhat dense but in a very good one so there is a great level of satisfaction in every bite. I also appreciate the fact that it is not overly sweet. These guys only use organic flour. There are simply just too much pesticides, preservatives, unnecessary colouring from FD&C dyes in our food today. It is a great thing to seek out alternative to better ourselves. What better way to do so and to support a business who also cares what they put in your food.

    Turkey with cheese and artichoke

This petite neighborhood bakery is right next to the Alma East-bound bus stop, (#84, 44, 7, 4). Patrons often hitch their dogs to the nearby bench so that they can keep an eye on them while taking in their coffee and paper from the counter seating with floor to ceiling glass windows. I've been in a couple of times for the turkey sandwich with cheese and artichoke, heated, to go. It's a decent nosh, not huge, but still a satisfying layering of ingredients that read "housemade" rather than "factory prepared". If you're looking for a place to study, this might not be your best spot. There is a communal table in the center of the room, but the square footage is fairly limited.

Best Americano I've had... maybe ever. Smooth, full flavored, wonderful. We stopped by on our way through Vancouver one Saturday morning. Service was great. There were four of us, we had a butter croissant, almond croissant, cheddar and green onion scone & pain du chocolate - the scone was 4/5, ver close to 5/5. The croissants were all excellent... as croissants are supposed to be made, like in an authentic French bakery. One of us ordered the hot chocolate and it the best hot chocolate he had ever tasted, another of us ordered a latte made with house-made cashew milk and it was also a winner. It is tiny inside, one large communal table taking up most of the space + two 4-top tables and that's pretty much it. But charming and cozy inside. All of us were smitten and I'm sure we will be back again... for that amazing coffee and an almond croissant ... for sure.

After 10 minutes wait, the small and not hot sandwich finally was mine but left me hungry.

I came here for a 30-minute-lunch break with the idea of having something to go. The only vegetarian option in their sandwich menu is brie and pear. I'm not a huge fan of brie, but since it was the ONLY option... I asked it to be grilled. BUMMER: it took more than 10 minutes to get it! Plus I had to ask the cashier about it, who, by the way completely forgot who I was even though she took my order just a few minutes before (the place was not even crowded). When I finally got it, I ran to go back to work and ate it super quickly. Not the kind of lunch I like. The sandwich itself was rather good, but since I had to wait 10 minutes for them to grill it, I expected it to be hotter and the pear to have melt a little bit. For $9, I also expected it to be bigger/filling, which was not the case: I was still hungry after eating it and had to grab something else. I liked however that they put a real French pickle (not sweet) in my bag to go. Going back? I wouldn't say no, but a) the staff needs to work faster, specially at lunch time! b) it's 2016, where are the vegetarian options? c) it's too pricey for what you get.

    * New location with expanded offerings * The Transylvania Bread place from Broadway closed down and relocated to this new location with a different name and a wider range of products. They still have their signature hearty Eastern European style bread, but now also offer meals and coffee and desserts. I had the Transylvania Peasant Soup. This was a rich thick hearty vegetable soup filled with carrots, cabbage, beets, celery, potatoes, and celery. It was very well balanced. 4 stars. Photo: http://www.yelp.ca/biz_photos/P78gUElTZe5HJGLRjtouig?select=2DGv8_oZ89pjKFGCwVbAbA It came with a side of their classic bread which still has that same good crust and chewy dense crumb. 4 stars: http://www.yelp.ca/biz_photos/P78gUElTZe5HJGLRjtouig?select=vAwPhqh7o6M1T_YIUahH5A The sandwich had goat cheese brie, basil, pesto, and roasted red peppers on a housemade Eastern European style baguette. They grilled this after ordering. The bread had a good crust, but the chew was not as good as their traditional bread. It was perhaps just a bit underbaked. The fillings for the sandwich were reasonably good, but nothing that really popped flavour wise. It also was a fairly small sandwich for the price, so it didn't present great value overall. 2 stars. Photo: http://www.yelp.ca/biz_photos/P78gUElTZe5HJGLRjtouig?select=kkGdch9Fmej-K-2MUQYrLQ The sandwich came with a side of olives and sundried tomatoes. These were fine, but the combined saltiness of the side with the saltiness of the brie was a bit too much salt overall. Photo: http://www.yelp.ca/biz_photos/P78gUElTZe5HJGLRjtouig?select=KZNT_6F2cQHUXlqulNjpaQ So while their basic peasant bread and peasant soup were a strong 4 stars, I'd shy away from their baguettes. Perhaps I just have peasant roots!

Nice spot with great coffee and a broad selections of pastries and cookies. Comfortable seating and a bulletin board in the washroom. I like this place.

Conveniently located at the eastbound 4th & Alma bus stop

Best bread around! I come from Burnaby to purchase their peasant loaf and their baguette. The multigrain is delicious, too.

Best Bread and bakery in town! Great ambiance too - prices are a bit high but for good reasons.

Outstanding quality, combined with a willingness to work with special orders. Also a great spot to meet a friend for coffee.

A little on the pricey side, but great spot for a coffee and a treat or to pick up a delicious loaf of bread (I loved the potato stout!).

Usually for last few years I've been ordering from Esther at Dipnsip & Unni Pastries. I was…read morereferred at my friend's wedding as I was looking for cakes and pastries for in-laws. Well it seems ownership has changed and the new owner doesn't give two craps about prior customers, honoring discounts, replying back timely or being more friendly? Was playing email tag and finally submitted the 39 flavors and didn't hear back until after another week and then told they won't deliver only in morning when they know our reservation was for 730pm and they're open until 9? I even replied back and nothing. We own and run several business in lower mainland and in United States and this customer service from Unni Pastries is trash. At least you can do is reply back and apologize? For wasting time when I specifically told you it's for family and friends flying into town for a funeral burial. Will never use their business again. I highly suggest Mello. They replied and helped me out last minute. Shame on you! Learn how to run a business and treat customers esp previous customers who were supporting the business and fellow Krn but it's clear the new owner doesn't care about the customer or quality it's all about quantity. Maybe my 39 donuts which I offered to pay extra for time and packaging wasn't large enough but money is money. Especially during this time and economy. You should've at least replied back and even tried asking us to do pickup as the restaurant is down the road. Do better! Go to Mello which isn't too far and they bake fresh daily better pricing and reviews and consistency!
