Food was okay. Waitress was a hot mess. Focused On the fact her twin sister worked there and was able to assist as well. Thought we'd have good service for two girls helping & it was barely enough. They forgot our appetizer & ended up taken it off the bill. The chef was cool & did a good job. They sang happy birthday to my husband without a dessert. wouldn't go back. read more

Benihana - Edison - Japanese Near Me - Edison, New Jersey

My first time coming to Benihana, I heard a lot about the experience & can honestly say they live up to their claims. From the service to the food. Drinks were really good! The chefs put on a really good & fun show, & not to mention the food is delicious. But the best experience was definitely the server, his name was Anthony. If you can request Anthony I suggest you do! He actually cared about the table, not just worried about the tip. He checked up on us & We never needed refills because he always made sure our cups were filled. I will definitely be coming back for the steak & shrimp ! read more

Very awesome experience. David and Romoeo was awesome Very clean and friendly. Come and try this place out you will not be disappointed.

My husband and I went here last night for dinner before our movie (1.5 hrs before the movie started). This place has gone downhill the new menu is very confusing. We wanted hibachi so we sat down. And it took the waitress 10 mins to come to us and serve us our drinks. Also, she did not clearly tell us that we have to pay extra for hibachi rice that they cook for you. Also you pay extra for it ($4 per person). Then she didn't put the order in correctly and when they hibachi cook came , he had to ask her to bring extra noodles. Also, we didn't get mushrooms or seasoning for our food because she did not add it to the order for the chef. It took her at the end to give us our checks (20 mins),. For hibischi for 2 , it cost $80 !!! What a rip off!! Mahzu , 15 mins away is sooooooo much better and reasonably priced. read more

Last night went for some Japanese hibachi. Good food and good service. Mia was great server!!!

Extremely disappointed. I had minimal hopes for this restaurant given the prior reviews and, therefore, bypassed the hibachi and ordered sashimi. The fish was extremely thin and there was no yellowtail. I was, however, excited that I was given a double portion of salmon (my favorite) only to realize it was smoked. Who the **** serves smoked salmon sashimi?? Let alone, I was already home when I tried it, so I couldn't even send it back. Absolutely absurd. Shameful actually... read more

We've been enjoying meals here for years, and yes the service and chef varies from time to time, but sometimes they get everything exactly right. Tonight was that night, with Peter providing us exceptional service, very attentive, engaging and personable. He checked on us often, and never failed to notice something needing either a refill, to be removed, or to be attended to in some manner. Following his exceptional service was the most impressive Chef we've ever enjoyed at this location. Ronald, from Chile, proved to be the most entertaining, talented and focused chef we've encountered over the years. His presentation, conversation with guests, and most of all his exceptional skills with the tools of his trade make him worth asking for personally on subsequent visits. We had to share our experience with the management, and tell them that because of Peter and Ronald we will be asking for them by name upon our return. I've worked in restaurants and retail, I get the frustrations associated with both and need to share with management that both Peter our server and Ronald our chef set the bar exceptionally high for customer care, satisfaction and reason to return time and time again. I've read the negative reviews and certainly understand that not everyone will have the evening we enjoyed tonight, but let it serve as a goal for the others in this field for if attained it makes a lasting impression and builds a loyalty with your guests. Looking forward to enjoying the service of Peter and the culinary artwork of Ronald...sooner than later. read more

i really hate to write a bad review when the service was good but i have to. i've been to a handful of hibachi places where i feel okay with being such a hard critic. first off, the decor to this place is great. it was very nice and there's even a fancy bar place to chill and watch the games. we went on a sunday night and the wait was 10 mins. not sure why because there were so many empty tables, this place is bigger than some hibachi places i've been to. anyways, i got the shrimp and NY strip steak. it was good but nothing spectacular. i know that they do add butter to almost everything but i need more flavor than that. i believe it was just basically butter, soy sauce and a bit of pepper on the food. you get one zucchini, a bow of rice (not completely full), some onions and sample shrimps. i had felt like the portions aren't as generous as other hibachi places i've been to and the flavors aren't comparable to those other places. unfortunately, we had ordered the special combos or whatever that was a little bit more expensive with small additional items like tea and ice cream. tea was never offered and i had to ask for ice cream lol. our waiter was pretty nice but it kind of felt like he just finished his first week on the job. our chef was friendly as well but the hibachi performance was a snooze fest. barely any show or tricks that had our attention. i was falling asleep as he had slowly cooked our food. i had to eat the food separately (zucchini, fried rice, onion, shrimp, then the protein) in that order. the chef was so slow i couldn't enjoy my meal together. i don't think i would return here as the prices are pretty high for the quality of the food and performance. there's just too many options in the state that this one does not interest me to return. thank u, next. read more

This was such an amazing experience. Philepe was wonderful and made the night even better! Great food, great service

I come here every year for my birthday, but this years experience was lacking. The wait time after we sat in our seats were ridiculous. I order one thing and go served something. I was so mad, I didn't have the energy to complain. I very disappointed. read more

Would not waste your time here. I love habachi places and this is the worst I've ever had. Food is nothing special. Portion for habachi is very small. And when you pay $25-$30 you want to be full. I could seriously eat a whole nothing meal. I'll probably stop for mcdonalds after this. They don't serve noodles with Dinner too! Make you pay extra for fried rice. Drinks are way to expensive. read more

Let me just say don't do it, I've tried Benihana four times before I left this review and all four times were terrible I've tried two different locations. This was an expensive just not good meal. For hibachi I prefer Arirang the food is a thousand times better and you have a better variety and it more cost effective. The fried rice always taste crunchy food not flavorful it's just not good. $100 for two people this money would've been better spent at Ruth Chris on a nice NY strip. This will be my last time coming back to any Benihana. read more

I have been here 6 times . The food is expensive and not that flavorful . Everything tastes the same , must be the oil they cook with . My grand daughter loves the show , that's the only reason I keep going back . Steak , chicken, rice same taste . Weird flavor . Shrimp is always over cooked . Chewy and hard . read more

Benihana introduced many to the Japanese communal grilling style called Teppanyaki in the mid-60's. The appeal was one of wildly flashing cutlery, flying raw eggs and steam-spouting rice hearts and volcanos; a lot of fun, but not a platform for stellar food. Saki and beer flows freely, and if fortunate to be seated with interesting and outgoing table-mates, the entertainment trumps dining substance. The prices are high, the quantities are plentiful and whether abundance is a plus or a minus is a matter of the chef's skill and seasoning hand. While Benihana is the pioneer, the local spots often offer better food, although Benihana has the floor show mastered. Fun and a novelty; good for group gatherings. read more

We came to celebrate my husband's birthday with my two children. We were able to deal with a slight wait as we were late for our reservation, but once seated, I had to get up and look for our soup and salads. In fact, the chef arrived before any appetizer. Once the chef and the appetizers arrived, the table became overcrowded, and there was no room for my kids' appetizers of edamame and sushi. The chef did not interact with the table, especially not the children. He had no personality and barely smiled. The only reasons that this gets even two stars is that the food was good - not great, but good, and our waiter was really trying to be accommodating despite a busy night. We did speak to the manager who adjusted the bill, but overall I will never come back here again. Edited to add that the chef spent more time talking to the chef behind him than he did to our table. And as slow as they were to bring everything out, they rushed us right out the door to turn the table. read more

Ivan was working the whole private section AND the bar all by himself on Monday & he was killing it! He was being pulled in every different direction and still kept a smile on his face. Worst experience ever. Had to give 1 star, regretfully. Celebrating uncle's 83rd birthday with party of six. 1) White rice never served til chef told waiter to do so after entre' 2) Never served ordered Irish wiskey 3) Never served green tea 4) Never served ice cream desert 5) Steak was tough 6) No egg spin or toss, chef did minimal 7) Waiter returned check without returning credit card. Had to find waiter who retrieved it at desk. Advised manager who never said anything but returned with coupon giving free ice cream on next visit after ordering entre'. As if we will return... tried giving coupon to people at other tables but no one wanted it. Gave coupon back to manager & wished him a good luck in life. read more

Before you read this review please excuse me if you feel my review is rude, distasteful, or racist. I mean no disrespect at all but I feel a little funny eating at a Japanese Restaurant when there are NO Japanese people ANYWHERE... Not the employees not the customers...I guess that's what you get when you eat at a chain restaurant.... Basically to sum up the experience we left here and went to McDonald's on the way home. read more

Bad experienced, overpriced and taste horrible compare to other one in the area. Less quantities, more expensive and talk about quality ? you can get better quality somewhere else. Not recommended at all. Is that so expensive to add fried rice or fried noodle to the meal without extra charges? Well, a tiny spoon of butter abd one pinch of vegetable to make my fried rice, it shouldnt cost over $3. A little strip of steak and you told me you have the best quality of food ? I saw the color changed on my steak, brown and green spot. I was gonna said something but dont want to ruin the whole meal with my daugther. The service is good though but wont come back unless its free. When I went outside, there are so many people waiting in the front but they dont know its empthy inside the restaurant. It shows bad management and they dont really care abour thier customer. Ive been in so many hibashi, by far this is the worst one in the area. read more

My husband and I ate here for the first & last time last night - walked in at 8pm and was told there was a 15-20 minute wait for hibachi with a completely empty restaurant - our first mistake. We sat at 835 with party of 6, waited 20 minutes for a soda and water because the bar was backed up. After taking our food order we waited another half hour.... Chef comes out and ruins everyone's meal! All steaks were cooked wrong temp, tuna steak wasn't cooked correctly and the shrimp tasted like ammonia - spoiled. When I approached the manager regarding the shrimp he offered to make me another plate generously ... And I obliged until he came back and said to us "I had 4 people taste your shrimp and they were fine". So you ate off my plate AND called my a liar.i graciously declined a remake & just asked for the bill which took another half hour. For average hibachi food, a subpar experience and poor customer service I would NEVER recommend this place. If you want fresh sushi & good food drive to Woodbridge and eat at U-Yee. read more

Was excited to try it out after everyone alway says good things, I wasn't expecting much for a franchise anyway...and I wish I could rate the food but WE NEVER GOT OUR FOOD. hahah it was awful I felt like we were on MTV's boiling point. We placed our order then after about 30 min of no food we ordered drinks, then another 30 min rolled around and they started to close up. (it was late mind you) :-( so finally we found our waitress again and she said oh sorry we gave all your food to a different table. Didn't offer us anything for our troubles. So we went to gabrieles and got chicken fingers. wah! *pout* read more

I just finished dinning at this place I would just like to say the service sucks donkeys dick the waiter kept getting our orders wrong my sister is very allergic to shellfish and I am very allergic to ginger the chef put ginger sauce right in front of me and cooked the seafood first so my sister had to get her food cooked at the back the table was dirty it really was just a waste of time going I've been to Benihana in New York and the food and service was amazing so I thought here would be just as good boy was I wrong I wouldn't recommend a dog to eat at this place just horrible I mean who makes habachi food with no Damn I mean just the worst never again read more

Very dissatisfied. Not only were the prices outrageous for the amount of food your receive but also made us pay extra for thing that should be included in the menu. I been to many hibachi restaurants and never in my life have I had to pay extra. The shrimp was terrible and not tasteful at all. I was so disappointed that I did not even bother getting dessert. Definitely the last time I will be coming to this establishment. Better hibachi places out there! Would skip. read more

Been going to Benihana for as long as I can remember. Not sure whats up with the quality over the last few years. The service is as it has always been, but the food not so much. It seems as though the flavor has lost its appeal. This particular one is close and we go here a few times a year. Today was pretty bland. The chef, Antonio put on a good show as the chefs normally do. I ordered the steak imperial which is a 12 oz NY strip, it was TOUGH!! I can't remember even having a steak that tough cooked at Waffle House, AND it was $35. My son got white rice and the kid's shrimp- shrimp was flavorless. I understand that they serve sauces for dipping, but shouldn't they just be a complement to the food? They need to get back on their game with the seasonings as other no-name steak houses in the area have been serving better quality food with better flavor. read more

The reason for the poor rating is the wait times. Went there with mine and a friend's family ( a total of 2 girls below 5 yrs old ) after having made a reservation for 830pm for Hibachi table seats. We were eventually seated at 910 - after all of us were tired and irritated , not to mention hungry. The kids were falling asleep before they could eat. The chef took another 15 minutes to arrive at the table, which sealed the deal for me. I used to bring customers to this place - which meant big spending. Never again. If there is no respect given to customers' time -they are not getting my business. In all fairness the food was great - despite the atrocious wait. read more

Now I'm no food critic but some of the ratings here do not match my experience. First off, slow service? It's supposed to be slow. It's supposed to be an experience. Would you rush the melting pot or want rush service at medieval times? Food is salty? Yes it's called soy sauce! Portions? Our portion was so huge we brought the rest home. Taste. It was one of the best hibachi I've had in a while. It was very flavorful. Highly recommend if you do hibachi and want more flavor, ask for garlic butter. read more

My family and I came here to celebrate my mothers birthday dinner. I called the restaurant before we arrived, to confirm if our party could be accommodated and if we were able to bring a birthday cake. The young lady who answered the phone confirmed that they could accommodate us, she explained in detail, the hibachi group/table. When I asked if I could bring a cake, she said absolutely. She mentioned, If it's an ice cream cake, unfortunately they had no room in their fridge to hold the cake. I explained to her that it was not an ice cream cake and she said that that is no problem. She said we could bring the cake and we could hold it and bring it out for the party. Three members of our party arrive before us and waited in the lobby, waiting room area. When I approached the host podium, there were two young girls and a man in a blue button-down shirt. I don't know what was going on prior to me walking in but as I approached the podium he had a very nasty look on his face. They didn't even say hello. Before he said anything like welcome or hello, he said "just so you know we can't hold cakes". I explained to him that I spoke to a young lady on the phone and she said that they could not hold ice cream cakes because they did not have room in the fridge. The young lady next to him, who I have a feeling is the person I was on the phone with immediately inserted herself in the conversation and said "no , the cakes have to be left at your table we don't hold cakes . We only hold ice cream cakes so that they do not melt. " I explained that's not what I was told. It was somewhat of a surprise birthday dinner so it was not very convenient for us to have the cake sitting next to the table the whole time. I later found out that this was the manager on duty, and his name was Mike. We arrived at the restaurant at about 7 PM and left at around 9 PM. The whole two hours that we were at the restaurant this man was walking around with the same nasty look on his face staring at tables. He seemed very unhappy, I honestly did not even want to be there. Which is really sad because that waiter and the chef did an amazing job. I will never visit this restaurant ever again. That man seemed miserable, and was very disrespectful to my family and I. At one point when going to the restroom room he was standing next to the podium that I had to walk past, to go to the restroom and he was just staring at me walking towards the passage and he wouldn't even move, I had to go the opposite way . Where is the hospitality? Where is the customer service? read more

I have been a patron of Benihana's for well over a decade. I have great experiences and not so great experiences. Today was by far the worst experience I have ever had. I had a reservation for a birthday dinner party of 8. I had to wait nearly 20 minutes to be seated after my reservation time. I did not complain at all. It was busy so I totally understood. We waited an additional half hour for drinks, soups and salads, all of which we received when the chef arrived at the table. One of my guests had 4 eyelashes in their soup. They were offered another and it was declined by personal choice. I excused it. When the chef served the rice it contained a long strand of hair and again was served to the same guest. By this time I am furious. The manager was called to the table. She apologizes and offers to give the guest a new bowl of rice and whatever else was on the plate at the time she took it away. She also rudely stated before she left the table with the plate, that "no one in the back has long hair". Everyone that has ever been to this establishment knows that everyone's rice comes on a tray together. As a manager, she should have never made that comment and she should've replaced the entire tray of rice as well as requested for the chef to clean the grill. At this point it seemed as if she was accusing of us lying along with the fact that everyone is disgusted now and no one wants to eat their food. All patrons of this establishment once again know it is very expensive to dine at Benihana's. We were not compensated for a single thing which was repulsive. The manager was extremely rude and nasty and never has a pleasant demeanor despite the day or time. I am extremely disappointed. Both the chef and the waitress were more accommodating than the actual manager which is pretty sad. I had a conversation with the manager after the second incident asking for my guest to be compensated for something and she said ok with an attitude and walked away. We never saw her again. I know customer service has changed drastically with the high demands of staff etc but I never expected this from a restaurant I frequent at least once or twice a month. read more

I just left from here as me and my sister came out with my niece and nephew for Mother's day weekend. We had a pretty good experience except while the chef was cooking, a bowl of corn came flying towards me and my niece. Benihana did not discount our bill which I found to be a bit inconsiderate. I have been to Benihana in the past and have had great experiences. This was a bit of a disappointment. read more

Extremely expensive, which was expected. However they keep removing items. Now you pay extra for rice? The food was decent however not worth the hefty price! I felt like everything was an extra penny and not worth it! The only positive was that I was able to have a gluten free meal (I have celiac). They prepared it in the back. HOWEVER I paid the regular menu price. I wasn't given the salad because of the dressing containing gluten nor the soup. I appreciate the staff ensuring my allergy was met, but I paid $30 for shrimp and veggies - then extra for rice! Not worth the penny. Go to one of the many other resultants similar to this one in the woodbridge / Edison area for half the price. read more
