This review is strictly for my to-go experience at Benihana. At first, I did not know if they had this option available. I was around the area and thought it might be nice to grab something from here to have on my way home. I forgot how busy they are; people were waiting for a table and people were waiting to be put on the waitlist. I patiently waited my turn to get to the front to ask if I could make a to-go order. Yes, yes they do, but it would be at the bar. Went to the bar, waited a couple of minutes to be acknowledged, then was transferred over to the lady at the sushi area. Apparently, they have a designated to-go person. After chatting with the to-go lady, it was smooth sailing afterward. I ordered something easy to eat - steak fried rice (serves 2) $21.00, add egg $2.00, add chicken $2.00 and the grand total was $25.00. Waited a little bit for my order to be cooked and packed ~10-15 minutes. The portions were decent and fed the 2 of us. Fried rice was okay; it was a bit on the greasy side and did not have much flavor, very bland. Thank goodness, she gave me some teriyaki sauce to go with my dinner, or else it would have been a sad dinner. There is plenty of parking, shared with other shops, but it could be tight. By ordering to-go, I felt like I bypassed the wait. It wasn't a bad experience, but I was expecting the food to be tastier. But then again, this was my first time ordering to-go here. "A Second Chance?" -- I gave it one. Unfortunately, I won't be giving a third. After my first review, I received a call from the manager personally asking--really asking--that I give Benihana another chance. She explained that changes had been made at the restaurant as a result of feedback like mine, and she genuinely encouraged me to come back and see for myself. I explained that I don't live anywhere near the area and that it would likely be quite some time before I chose Benihana again. I was assured that I would be "taken care of" on my next visit and was even given a personal number to contact. Fast-forward about two months. I happened to be in the area today, so I decided to give them that second chance. Unfortunately, my experience was still far below what I would expect from a restaurant at this price point. The food was still underwhelming. And once again, the people at the table were far too polite to say anything, which honestly made me wonder: Do you ever go back and watch the cameras or listen to what is actually happening at the tables? The drinks I decided that since I normally stick to wine or sake, I would try an actual cocktail this time and give that a fair shot. Unfortunately, the cocktail was essentially sugar syrup. I would have asked to switch it, but there was no one around to do so when I needed them. Eventually, Teddy, the manager, came over, but at that point the situation had already become uncomfortable enough that I simply didn't feel like making an issue out of it. "Comments and states like I'm I like shiny things......." Cocktails: negative zero. Wine: excellent Pinot Noir. The food At the moment, they are offering a limited 5-6 course experience, so I cancelled our other reservations and decided to commit to the full experience here. Unfortunately, the rice was still bad. Juan, the chef, was absolutely amazing. Better than the last by 100000% He was personable, attentive, and did a great job with what he was given. However, the overall experience still felt extremely systematic and lacked the consistency and attention to detail I would expect. I also happened to see the server we had during our previous visit working at the table next to us. It was almost like watching a completely different person--she was much more engaged and attentive this time. Unfortunately, there was also an incident where an entire tray of soup was spilled onto a 400-degree griddle, creating a huge amount of steam directly around the children and adults seated at the neighboring table. That was concerning to watch. Was it better? Some things were better. Some people were excellent. But overall, the restaurant still didn't deliver the experience I was hoping for after being personally asked to return. My bill was $175, with $40.40 comped. And honestly, that's the part that keeps coming back to me: I would have spent that $175 somewhere else. It's not just the money. It's the time. Getting dressed, making reservations, sitting through dinner, and spending an entire evening somewhere is an investment too. I genuinely wanted to be able to come back and say, "They listened. They made changes. It's worth going back." Unfortunately, I can't say that. Would I come back? No. Would I recommend it? No. I appreciate the manager reaching out to me after my original review and making the effort to bring me back. I really do. I gave it another chance specifically because of that conversation. But after tonight, I feel like I've given my feedback, given them another opportunity, and given them my business. At this point, I'm moving on. And again needed to start off with no toilet paper before dinner. Pay $200 for dinner and wipe with seat covers? Pass. I don't want stuff for free ever, but if someone harasses me and calls and pleads for a second review, well here it is. I'll pay no problem. With reservations we were seated upon walking in. All of the staff were cheerful, helpful and kind. Our waitress lacked patience, was pushy and reached across us often; and was sassy and disrespectful when green tea was requested ("it will be a moment I have another table"). She struggled waiting for us deciding our order and just stared at us; very uncomfortable. We don't know if there was dessert so we had dessert elsewhere. The hibachi chef was wonderful and entertaining. The food for us was a little salty; but I'm sure if I requested low sodium it wouldn't have been an issue. The food was cooked to perfection and we had a great time. The restaurant is noisy so I don't recommend if you plan on visiting. I don't believe with her attitude and lack of professionalism the meal for four was worth $230.00. read more

So mad we waited for almost an hour for the burrito. My burrito had burnt flakes in it like when they scraped the grill when they're done cooking. The flavor for me was horrible! It just tasted burnt. Even my shrimp crunchy roll was off. The burrito was dry and just VERY disappointing. The first time I had it ....was good...Don't know if the cooks were tired or what and they need to cook it with the garlic butter and sauces then wrap it but they were so wrong for giving me like 3 shrimp in that whole burrito. I drove all the way from Vancouver in traffic for over an hour to get there plus you can ONLY order the burrito online?!?!! Which was having trouble and they couldn't accommodate me for their website having errors. Thankfully the manager finally came over and she comp the burrito which was nice but I would've been even more angry if I had paid which I was trying to do. Won't ever order that again and it'll be a while before I even go back if I go back. Me and my family have been going to Benihana for over 20yrs and things have changed so much and not for the better I might add. Sorry not sorry this was just not a good experience. Benihana's is always such a fun time. My kids call it their version of a dinner and a show. I have been going here for 20 years. Our most recent trip was great as usual. It's a lot of food, all meals included soup, salad, shrimp, grilled veggies- onions and vegetables and rice along with your entree. Also green tea is included if you order it. It's a longer dinner service so I would suggest planning for at least 1.5 hours. We always order the hibachi chicken fried rice (instead of white rice) which is fantastic. They have a great kids menu. My kids tend to always get the hibachi steak and also add the white noodles which are really good. All kids meals come with either soup or salad, white rice, and ice cream with their entree. We were seated right away on a Tuesday evening (with reservations). Service was great, our waiter was attentive and friendly. Our chef was good, but we have had better in the past. The food was really good. If you join their friends with benefits program you get a $50 voucher to use in your birthday month. They bring out a sundae with a lit candle and sing happy birthday. This is a great place to go as a group. You can sit 8-10 to a table and its fun environment. Overall rating would be 3.5. read more

Pretty frustrating that a 7pm reservation for two turned into waiting 40 minutes to then check with the host desk and overhear that they can seat a walk in party of four immediately. And then was told that they are busing our table and will seat us shortly. Were you really busing the table or did you realize that you needed to seat a planned party of two that had been waiting and just overheard you were seating other people walking in with no reservations. A family of 4 was sitting there and said they were still waiting for their 5pm reservation. While we talked it over, at least 4 parties stormed out, one chewed out the desk person. We chose Benihana to celebrate my son's birthday because we've always enjoyed the fun, memorable atmosphere and birthday traditions. Unfortunately, this visit fell far short of those expectations. Our chef, Andy, was the highlight of the evening. He was energetic, personable, entertaining, and genuinely made the cooking experience enjoyable. He deserves recognition for the outstanding job he did. Unfortunately, our waitress, Arlyss, left us disappointed. After we declined the optional add-ons and upgrades, her demeanor noticeably changed, and we felt much less attended to for the remainder of the meal. At one point, she pushed my son's chair in while he was still sitting in it, which felt unnecessary and made us uncomfortable. The biggest disappointment was my son's birthday celebration. We requested his birthday ice cream, but after waiting more than 20 minutes, it never arrived. No birthday photo was offered, and there was no birthday song or acknowledgment. We also noticed another birthday guest seated next to us who wasn't celebrated either. It was disappointing to see what has always been one of Benihana's signature traditions seemingly overlooked for multiple families. We chose Benihana because birthdays have always felt special there, and that's the experience we were hoping to share with our son. Sadly, this visit didn't reflect the level of hospitality we've come to expect. Thank you again to Andy for making the meal itself memorable. Unfortunately we had two back to back negative experiences and won't be back. Both times, we waited over an hour for the chef. Clearly they are short on chefs. In this case it was my son's 7th birthday and it took so long he fell asleep before our food was ready, and the whole experience took 2.5 hours even though we made a reservation a week in advance. Had a tough experience. Reservations were set, and we showed up 5 minutes prior to the time scheduled. Unfortunately we were told our table wasn't going to be ready for a bit, so we expected we would be seated soon. Had some nice service in the bar while we waited. Kinda loud, but the service and drinks were good. 45 minutes later, we decided to find out how much longer we were going to need to wait. Didn't get a specific amount of time, but said they were "working on it". I have gone to restaurants before and had to wait a few minutes for a reservation, but have always been seated within a reasonable amount of time. Waited a bit longer, but it became clear to us that the team had no clue how much longer it would be. There was no apology or concern - kinda like business as usual I guess. We decided to leave and go to another place we like nearby. After driving to the new restaurant, being seated, getting our drinks, had the appetizer delivered, and had already ordered what turned out to be a terrific dinner, we got a call saying our seats were available. This would have been well over an hour, approaching 90 minutes had we waited the whole time. When we told them we had already left, there was another opportunity lost for an apology, or at some level concern for our experience. Instead we were told we should have told them we were leaving. May I suggest you make good on reservations, and when you fail, at least try to make your customers feel better about the poor experience. For what its worth, the people in the bar were nice, and the drinks were solid, which contributed to the score of a 2 star versus 1 star. read more

I wouldn't recommend visiting this restaurant until they address their ongoing overbooking and reservation problems. This isn't limited to just this location, I've seen the same complaints from other states as well, especially since the restaurant was acquired by a new company. OVERBOOKING & TIME MANAGEMENT *Even with a reservation, expect to wait anywhere from 30 minutes to 2 hours after checking in. *Reservations don't seem to be managed realistically, which leads to long waits and frustrated customers. PRICING & TRANSPARENCY *You're asked whether you want steamed rice or fried rice, but it's not clearly explained that fried rice costs an extra $8, while steamed rice is included with the entrée. The fried rice also only comes with a couple of small chicken pieces. *A single glass of wine was $25, despite the same bottle retailing for around $11, which felt excessively marked up. OVERWORKED STAFF & RUSHED SERVICE *The chef appeared very rushed, likely due to tight scheduling. As a result, the egg trick didn't go as planned and a medium-rare steak and medium were served to the wrong guests. *I especially felt bad for the receptionist, who has to deal with understandably upset customers every night. Please be kind to the staff. I believe these issues don't appear to be their fault. The real problem seems to lie with poor corporate management and profit-driven decisions. read more

Despite my misgivings with the last experience (see previous 2 star review), we were lured back by the $30 Birthday coupon and that fact that it has become a family tradition! So, came back we did, and you did a much better job this time! Firstly, on a Tuesday night, there was no wait with our reservation! Usually you have to wait at least 15-30 minutes with the reservation. Secondly, the chef was great this time, no inappropriate jokes and he did a great time with trying to entertain our 3 teenagers and 2 adults. The shrimp was a bit overcooked but besides that, it was a perfectly seasoned and flavorful meal. It was a lot of food, and we even had leftovers. Thank you to the great chef for making our meal very good and memorable. We got the Bday photo and the icecream and I will always love the loud birthday songs which embarrass the teenagers appropriately. Thirdly, the only miss was the $15 calamari appetizer. The pieces were small and for some reason someone put fresh habaneros on top our ours. Guess what fresh habaneros do to hot oily food?? It infuses each piece with painfully hot peppers. It was inedible, but thankfully my hot head husband was able to choke them down. If it was just me I would have returned them as it was really too spicy. This was my first time going to Benihana in about 15 years. What a chaotic experience. - All of the chefs kept randomly screaming saying who knows what (except ours, he just kept muttering) - Food was flying EVERYWHERE - The "show" was messy and unprofessional - The chef kept aggressively slamming the ingredients on the hot table. He did the same with the butter, causing it to splatter - He kept bombing his tricks and insisted on trying over and over while awkwardly saying nothing. - I asked for no mushrooms and he joked the whole time about "accidentally" giving them to me. He even cooked them on the part of the hot table closest to me, and said he did it on purpose. Not a huge deal, it was just odd - At one point, he asked everyone's age at table - He also asked us all to guess his age. One lady seemed embarrassed and said she was overwhelmed - He and the chef behind him were literally touching back to back the whole time because there was barely any space between the two tables - Our chef "borrowed" a few of the other chef's items without him knowing and making his inventory short, so he'd yell across the restaurant for someone to bring him more - He knocked my daughter's drink onto her lap - The food was well under-seasoned. - And the tambourines. The damn tambourines. Our waitress Mercy was amazing. She deserves all the stars. This is a fun great place, but you must expect quite the wait when you get here, it's just part of the experience. We came with friends and still had to wait even though we had reservations. All good though they have a full bar so the time flew by with the awesome bartender and great selection of drinks. Once seated we had a great chef and amazing food. It is pricy here, but well worth it. Overall we spent 3.5 hours here which is about average so plan accordingly. This is a great spot for family gatherings and great food and experiences! read more

I guess it time for a review, I have loved Benihana for ever, other cities and always have had great service, love bringing people that have never been :) Benihana Beaverton has lost it, I don't know what has happened. Ive been going to this location for years as it my hometown. The last few times have not been good, very long wait times, like 1 hour past reservations. Not good service, can't find your waiter ever, the food or something has changed, it"s just not as good as it used to be. It pains me to write about it. I keep trying only to be further disappointed, not sure if Im giving up on BB but I look forward to another trip somewhere that has a Benihana. This place has the worst service during the day. Went in here for happy hour during the World Cup as they advertised a match day menu. It took us an hour to get a beer, a salmon roll and satay. We never got water and never got to see the match since I asked the server to change it to the right channel and he just left the remote in the register and forgot about us. Not one other person was in the bar with us and honestly none of the people working there looked like they knew anything about service. We had to stand up after not receiving our check. This place is a dump with wrecked out servers who look like they can barely make it another day. One of the 3 worst dining experiences I've ever had. I wish I had read more recent reviews before going, as the ones mentioning long waits with no food are spot on. Our family of 4 made reservations to go here for my 40th birthday. We arrived early and were seated with 6 others (10 total people at the table), of which 2 others were coincidentally also celebrating birthdays. The service started fine...the server explained the menu, got our drinks, and we had our soup in a reasonable amount of time. Then came the waiting. Our server eventually came back to ask if we wanted more drinks but had no update on our chef. One person asked her about our salads and she responded "I'm waiting until your chef comes so you have something to eat while he's here". This made no sense to us; we had already been waiting a long time and were hungry and unhappy, and salads would have at least been something to to eat and distract us. After this, the only entertainment we got was the magic of the server and her disappearing act. She virtually vanished, and we went without seeing someone for at least half an hour. One person at our table had spoken to a staff member who told her they were overbooked and didn't have any idea how much longer it would be. Not long after, I got up to go see the manager. The hostess pointed him out to me but did not tell him he was wanted. He was busy trying to entertain the lobby full of guests waiting, so I patiently waited for him to finish. I waited, close enough to touch him, without him either 1) noticing me, or 2) caring that I was there. I eventually gave up. While I was gone, the server finally showed back up with the tiny salads. One person asked her for an update and she told them it'd be around half an hour. She immediately turned to my wife (who overheard that comment) and told her it would be at least another hour until we saw our chef. At this point, we had been at our table for close to an hour and a half. We had just gotten salads and still had no idea how long it would be before we saw a chef. We felt ignored and lied to. Our entire table (strangers to one another) had enough, and all got up and walked out one after the other. The only redeeming thing we had all night was our server getting our daughter the food she ordered off the kids menu. We'd been waiting so long and she was so hungry, I asked the server if she could at least get the edamame for her. She came out with her entree as well, which meant she at least got some food. I've never walked out of a restaurant before like this, and we tried not doing it. We waited patiently, asked politely for updates and even tried speaking to the manager. This dining experience was undoubtedly the worst l've ever had. Our group of ten was seated 1.25 hours after our reservation time, which was the case for all parties waiting in the lobby. Management informed us that this chronic delay has been happening for over a year, and corporate has yet to take any action. To make matters worse, we weren't served our food by the 1.25-hour mark AFTER we were seated, so we left without eating. I had one great experience here followed by a really bad one and I really wanted to give it another chance but they failed miserably. We went the day after Christmas but I don't think that's a good excuse for what happened. Imagine making a reservation for 5:30 for your birthday dinner, you get your kids ready to go, you get dressed up and ready to go, then drive an hour clear across town to eat. We checked in at 5:20 and the hostess said they were running a little bit behind and it would be about 25 minutes before we could be seated. No biggie, we can wait a few minutes despite having a reservation. We come back in at 5:50 and a different hostess says that they are still running behind and now it's going to be an additional 45 minutes to an hour wait....despite having a reservation. I ask to speak to the manager. While I'm waiting for them to come up a couple other people express their frustration on the wait and they also drove pretty far and had reservations. When the manager came up after about 10 minutes he was very apologetic and said he was going to walk the dining room to get a better estimate on the wait. When he came back it was still 45 minutes to an hour longer than we had already been waiting. He offered to do something for us if we chose to wait but we were hungry and the night was already ruined. He said he was fairly new and didn't understand how they were so over booked and to be honest I don't either. There is a reservation system, you would think that if the tables are full for the allotted time the system wouldn't let additional reservations. We ended up at the Margarita Factory down the street and were able to salvage some of the evening. read more

This place was packed, and while we had a 5:15 reservation, we weren't seated until about 6:00. Normally that would've been a dealbreaker, but the way the staff handled it completely changed the experience. The manager, Mickey Folgheraiter, was absolutely outstanding. He checked on us repeatedly while we waited, kept us updated, and continued to make sure we were taken care of throughout the entire dinner. His attentiveness, professionalism, and genuine concern for guests really stood out, especially on such a busy night. He's the kind of manager that makes you want to come back. Our chef, Alex, also deserves major credit. There were a few issues that were not his fault--some food came out incorrect or not quite enough at first--but he handled everything with grace and professionalism. He stayed upbeat, kept the experience enjoyable, and did an excellent job cooking and entertaining with what he was given. Busy nights happen, but great service makes all the difference. From the beginning, the evening was disorganized. We were initially seated and then moved between multiple tables several times, which created confusion and an uncomfortable start. The hostess appeared visibly distressed after being instructed by a chef to move us, which added to the lack of professionalism. Before the meal began, the chef informed us that the restaurant was short-staffed. When we asked if employees had gone to a nearby competing restaurant, he confirmed this and then stated that although they might try to return, they would not be allowed back. This comment created a negative and unprofessional tone at the very start of the experience. Service throughout the night was poor. Our server placed items on the table abruptly, did not provide drinks, and we ultimately had to go to the bar ourselves--twice--to order them. Despite the restaurant not being busy, we were largely unattended for extended periods. The food service itself was unacceptable. The chef appeared unprepared and disorganized, repeatedly dropping items, requesting missing ingredients multiple times, and struggling throughout the cooking process. Most concerning, although we ordered two meals, all of the food was placed on my plate. My date was not served her own portion and had to share from mine. When it came time to pay, we were again left waiting for a long period without assistance. After unsuccessfully trying to get our server's attention, I approached the hostess to request a manager. I was then informed that the manager was too busy to come out because she was in her office doing payroll. I made it clear that I simply wanted to pay in full and leave--I was not asking for a discount or compensation. This was not about money, but about resolving the situation and leaving after an already difficult experience. Additionally, I had an uncomfortable interaction with the manager earlier in the evening while ordering drinks at the bar. During this interaction, she checked my ID and began sharing a story about another customer, stating that he was "creepy," that he said she was going to come find him, and that she had been looking at his address. While saying this, she came around the bar, grabbed my arm, and touched my shoulder while speaking to me. This physical contact was unexpected, inappropriate, and made me uncomfortable. She continued to hold onto me as I was walking drinks back into the dining area, maintaining physical contact for approximately 15 feet through the bar area as I attempted to return to my table. For clarity, I was consuming non-alcoholic beer, and my date had only a glass of wine and a single martini. Despite this, staff made an inappropriate comment suggesting that my date was "tipsy," which was inaccurate and unprofessional. Overall, the experience was disorganized, unprofessional, and disappointing from both a service and hospitality standpoint. Great atmosphere, great food and great chefs. We love our waitress Tina, she was absolutely amazing!

We chose Benihana in Beaverton to celebrate our oldest daughters high school graduation, and unfortunately, the experience did not live up to the occasion--especially considering the price. We arrived at 6:00 p.m. for our 6:15 reservation and were told it would be another 45 minutes before we could be seated. Whether that was 45 minutes from our arrival or from our reservation time wasn't clear, but we ultimately waited about an hour before being seated. While we waited, our server brought us drinks and appetizers, which we appreciated. However, once we were finally seated with the other party at our hibachi table, everything felt incredibly rushed. The chef's performance was underwhelming, and the entire dining experience felt like the staff was trying to catch up after running behind all evening rather than allowing guests to enjoy the experience Benihana is known for. One of the strangest parts of the evening was the timing of the meal. We didn't receive our salads until after our hibachi entrees had already been cooked and served. I've never experienced appetizers and salads arriving after the main course at any Benihana before, and it made the service feel disorganized. Another disappointment was the timing of the commemorative photo. It was taken before the meal even started, before our celebration had really begun. Since the table was already crowded with food and drinks, there was nowhere to safely keep the photo while we ate, and mine even ended up falling onto the floor. In past visits, photos have always been taken at the end of the meal, which makes much more sense and actually captures the celebration. The biggest disappointment, however, was that despite letting the restaurant know we were celebrating our oldest daughter's high school graduation, there was absolutely no acknowledgment of the occasion. No congratulations, no song, no dessert, no special moment--nothing. For a restaurant that markets itself as a place for celebrations, that was incredibly disappointing. Overall, the long wait, rushed service, out-of-order meal courses, and complete lack of recognition for such an important milestone left us feeling let down. Benihana is an expensive restaurant, and we expected a memorable experience. Instead, it felt like just another table they were trying to get through as quickly as possible. read more

I've been twice and both times it was awful. At the holidays we went and they had massively over booked. We sat at our packed table for over 45 min with no one coming to check or cook. We had to find a hostess to help get someone. Then the chef hurried through the meal. The food quality was mediocre and way over priced. Today we took our kiddo for a celebration lunch after he'd achieved some milestones. We asked for the power lunch given limited time and kiddo not eating a huge amount. We were really disappointed that the chef chose not to do anything- no knife twirl, no show, nothing. Online does not say that the power lunch doesn't come with any part of the traditional hibachi show. I think with a kiddo they could have done something to make it special for him. We will not be coming back. I think it's awful to treat customers so badly, especially at this price point. read more

We had reservations for 5:30 and didn't get seated until 7pm. We were told it was delayed because guests were lingering at their tables after the meal. Found that to be hard to believe since we waited almost 20 minutes for water after seated and another 20 minutes before we got the first course. We never heard from a manager to apologize for the delay or check in with us - absolute nightmare of a night. read more

Victor was the best chef!! food tasted the very best, out of all the chefs that we have had there. Yvette was the worst server! felt like we were a bother to her (both times that we had her). can definitely tell that she doesn't like her job. also, super sneaky with the bill/menu/prices. charged me adult prices for my kids. never offered the green tea that was included in our meals. i would request to never have her again. also, change your recipe to include garlic butter in everything (rice, veggies, shrimp). victor did this for us and it was AMAZING. read more

Never been to one before. Wanted to try the happy hour menu. Was directed to a small bar area that had no ambiance except the blaring music. No bartender in sight. Waited for 10 mins until he showed up. Ordered a few items with drinks. Bartender kept disappearing. Food arrived but he forgot utinsils and napkins. Disappeared again. Had to flag down a waitress to get the utensils. She said I don't work this area and don't know where they are. I almost got up out of my chair and went into the dining room to take the utensils and napkins off a table. The food was beyond terrible and very disappointing. Would not go there again read more
