This place was packed, and while we had a 5:15 reservation, we weren't seated until about 6:00. Normally that would've been a dealbreaker, but the way the staff handled it completely changed the experience. The manager, Mickey Folgheraiter, was absolutely outstanding. He checked on us repeatedly while we waited, kept us updated, and continued to make sure we were taken care of throughout the entire dinner. His attentiveness, professionalism, and genuine concern for guests really stood out, especially on such a busy night. He's the kind of manager that makes you want to come back. Our chef, Alex, also deserves major credit. There were a few issues that were not his fault--some food came out incorrect or not quite enough at first--but he handled everything with grace and professionalism. He stayed upbeat, kept the experience enjoyable, and did an excellent job cooking and entertaining with what he was given. Busy nights happen, but great service makes all the difference. When we asked if employees had gone to a nearby competing restaurant, he confirmed this and then stated that although they might try to return, they would not be allowed back. Additionally, I had an uncomfortable interaction with the manager earlier in the evening while ordering drinks at the bar. During this interaction, she checked my ID and began sharing a story about another customer, stating that he was "creepy," that he said she was going to come find him, and that she had been looking at his address. While saying this, she came around the bar, grabbed my arm, and touched my shoulder while speaking to me. This physical contact was unexpected, inappropriate, and made me uncomfortable. She continued to hold onto me as I was walking drinks back into the dining area, maintaining physical contact for approximately 15 feet through the bar area as I attempted to return to my table. For clarity, I was consuming non-alcoholic beer, and my date had only a glass of wine and a single martini. Despite this, staff made an inappropriate comment suggesting that my date was "tipsy," which was inaccurate and unprofessional. Overall, the experience was disorganized, unprofessional, and disappointing from both a service and hospitality standpoint. Benihana's is always such a fun time. My kids call it their version of a dinner and a show. I have been going here for 20 years. Our most recent trip was great as usual. It's a lot of food, all meals included soup, salad, shrimp, grilled veggies- onions and vegetables and rice along with your entree. Also green tea is included if you order it. It's a longer dinner service so I would suggest planning for at least 1.5 hours. We always order the hibachi chicken fried rice (instead of white rice) which is fantastic. They have a great kids menu. My kids tend to always get the hibachi steak and also add the white noodles which are really good. All kids meals come with either soup or salad, white rice, and ice cream with their entree. We were seated right away on a Tuesday evening (with reservations). Service was great, our waiter was attentive and friendly. Our chef was good, but we have had better in the past. The food was really good. If you join their friends with benefits program you get a $50 voucher to use in your birthday month. They bring out a sundae with a lit candle and sing happy birthday. Tonight we get there for my wife's birthday for a party of 6 and find out your 1.5-2 hours behind for a 630 dinner. Really? We were there at 610. This isn't limited to just this location, I've seen the same complaints from other states as well, especially since the restaurant was acquired by a new company. OVERBOOKING & TIME MANAGEMENT *Even with a reservation, expect to wait anywhere from 30 minutes to 2 hours after checking in. *Reservations don't seem to be managed realistically, which leads to long waits and frustrated customers. PRICING & TRANSPARENCY *You're asked whether you want steamed rice or fried rice, but it's not clearly explained that fried rice costs an extra $8, while steamed rice is included with the entrée. The fried rice also only comes with a couple of small chicken pieces. *A single glass of wine was $25, despite the same bottle retailing for around $11, which felt excessively marked up. OVERWORKED STAFF & RUSHED SERVICE *The chef appeared very rushed, likely due to tight scheduling. As a result, the egg trick didn't go as planned and a medium-rare steak and medium were served to the wrong guests. *I especially felt bad for the receptionist, who has to deal with understandably upset customers every night. Three of us ate there, chef (grain of salt) named Max, new and poorly trained. We were visiting to watch a granddaughter play at Lewis & Clark. Common theme we ate here, continuing theme we all got very sick. The food was all cross contaminated due to the poor preparations. I have left two requests with Benihanas corporate complain webpage. Guess what I have heard back, absolutely nothing. Poor location, worse corporate oversight, avoid at all costs. $220 for severe food poisoning was quite the bargain, thanks again! As others have stated a reservation just enables you to have a 45-minute to an hour wait. One of the 3 worst dining experiences I've ever had. I wish I had read more recent reviews before going, as the ones mentioning long waits with no food are spot on. Our family of 4 made reservations to go here for my 40th birthday. We arrived early and were seated with 6 others (10 total people at the table), of which 2 others were coincidentally also celebrating birthdays. The service started fine...the server explained the menu, got our drinks, and we had our soup in a reasonable amount of time. Then came the waiting. Our server eventually came back to ask if we wanted more drinks but had no update on our chef. One person asked her about our salads and she responded "I'm waiting until your chef comes so you have something to eat while he's here". This made no sense to us; we had already been waiting a long time and were hungry and unhappy, and salads would have at least been something to to eat and distract us. After this, the only entertainment we got was the magic of the server and her disappearing act. She virtually vanished, and we went without seeing someone for at least half an hour. One person at our table had spoken to a staff member who told her they were overbooked and didn't have any idea how much longer it would be. Not long after, I got up to go see the manager. The hostess pointed him out to me but did not tell him he was wanted. He was busy trying to entertain the lobby full of guests waiting, so I patiently waited for him to finish. I waited, close enough to touch him, without him either 1) noticing me, or 2) caring that I was there. I eventually gave up. While I was gone, the server finally showed back up with the tiny salads. One person asked her for an update and she told them it'd be around half an hour. She immediately turned to my wife (who overheard that comment) and told her it would be at least another hour until we saw our chef. At this point, we had been at our table for close to an hour and a half. We had just gotten salads and still had no idea how long it would be before we saw a chef. We felt ignored and lied to. Our entire table (strangers to one another) had enough, and all got up and walked out one after the other. The only redeeming thing we had all night was our server getting our daughter the food she ordered off the kids menu. We'd been waiting so long and she was so hungry, I asked the server if she could at least get the edamame for her. She came out with her entree as well, which meant she at least got some food. I've never walked out of a restaurant before like this, and we tried not doing it. We waited patiently, asked politely for updates and even tried speaking to the manager. Despite my misgivings with the last experience (see previous 2 star review), we were lured back by the $30 Birthday coupon and that fact that it has become a family tradition! So, came back we did, and you did a much better job this time! Firstly, on a Tuesday night, there was no wait with our reservation! Usually you have to wait at least 15-30 minutes with the reservation. Secondly, the chef was great this time, no inappropriate jokes and he did a great time with trying to entertain our 3 teenagers and 2 adults. The shrimp was a bit overcooked but besides that, it was a perfectly seasoned and flavorful meal. It was a lot of food, and we even had leftovers. Thank you to the great chef for making our meal very good and memorable. We got the Bday photo and the icecream and I will always love the loud birthday songs which embarrass the teenagers appropriately. Thirdly, the only miss was the $15 calamari appetizer. The pieces were small and for some reason someone put fresh habaneros on top our ours. Guess what fresh habaneros do to hot oily food?? It infuses each piece with painfully hot peppers. It was inedible, but thankfully my hot head husband was able to choke them down. If it was just me I would have returned them as it was really too spicy. Nowhere on the menu does it state that they are habanero infused. Overall, this experience redeemed Benihana for me. read more

Management informed us that this chronic delay has been happening for over a year, and corporate has yet to take any action. Unfortunately we had two back to back negative experiences and won't be back. Both times, we waited over an hour for the chef. Clearly they are short on chefs. In this case it was my son's 7th birthday and it took so long he fell asleep before our food was ready, and the whole experience took 2.5 hours even though we made a reservation a week in advance. When we got there the manager told us we made an illegal reservation... whatever that means... and that we were supposed to call an hour in advance to confirm we were showing up.. well what's the point in the reservation. I think in total we waiting like 2 hours for our reservation.... Again what's the point... then we got cut off.. apparently 3 beers is too many when you make us wait 2 hours for dinner and they were asking us where we had been before this and if this was our first stop of the night. I had one great experience here followed by a really bad one and I really wanted to give it another chance but they failed miserably. We went the day after Christmas but I don't think that's a good excuse for what happened. Imagine making a reservation for 5:30 for your birthday dinner, you get your kids ready to go, you get dressed up and ready to go, then drive an hour clear across town to eat. We checked in at 5:20 and the hostess said they were running a little bit behind and it would be about 25 minutes before we could be seated. No biggie, we can wait a few minutes despite having a reservation. We come back in at 5:50 and a different hostess says that they are still running behind and now it's going to be an additional 45 minutes to an hour wait....despite having a reservation. I ask to speak to the manager. While I'm waiting for them to come up a couple other people express their frustration on the wait and they also drove pretty far and had reservations. When the manager came up after about 10 minutes he was very apologetic and said he was going to walk the dining room to get a better estimate on the wait. When he came back it was still 45 minutes to an hour longer than we had already been waiting. He offered to do something for us if we chose to wait but we were hungry and the night was already ruined. He said he was fairly new and didn't understand how they were so over booked and to be honest I don't either. There is a reservation system, you would think that if the tables are full for the allotted time the system wouldn't let additional reservations. At first, we thought things were looking up because we got our soup and salad right away -- but after that, we were completely forgotten again. She picked the ramekin off the floor and never came back to sop up the mess, not even a "pardon me". I would have far preferred honesty about the wait and we could have made other arrangements. Now, at 9:45, we' don't have many options.. We were told repeatedly "20 minutes" when we inquired about progress. We should have followed the lead of all the other unhappy people leaving several hours before. My daughter is 14 today and requested this meal. I'm sorry to say I think last night was my last night at Benihana. In my previous review I noted there was a big delay, and I guess that persuaded me at check in of our reservations this time. We had reservations for 6:30pm but it was nearing 7, we were standing in their crowded doorway and it was packed, so I asked if we could change it up & sit in the lounge. (I am tired of spending hours at dinners here). The staff checked and in 3 different ways told us they were severely short staffed in the lounge, it was one girl who was running around like crazy, and they kept talking us into sitting at the bar. Bar it is...but that ended up being no better and by the end I was screaming inside to leave my seat & get the hell out of there. We arrived at 6:30, we finally left Benihana at 8:30. Our bill was $137 for 1 drink, 1 appetizer, and 2 entrees. No fun chef experience, just sitting at the bar... the knife in the coffin was being served what looked like cut scraps of fat & end bits from what must have been the good steaks they served to others in the restaurant. I tried 2 bites, nope. The poor bartender was running around solo the entire time and every ask felt like we were throwing stones at his head. It was just pure chaos the entire time. I understand being understaffed...but if you'd cut back on the capacity you'd make your staff and customers happy and coming back. Doing it this way makes staff AND customers leave. I remember this place as being fun entrainment while your meal was cooked. What we got was bland personality and barely any effort to do a trick or anything. The food was OK. 5 stars because they are open on Christmas Day. My family always gets Teppanyaki on Christmas. We went to Tokio Table for many years, but they are no longer open Christmas Day. We were happy that Benihana could accommodate us. Our chef, Andy, was fantastic and our server, Nick was also really nice. It was a busy night and they did a great job. My brother and his boys come here every year for his birthday, and this year a few more family members were invited. 91 degrees outside, and to enter a very dark cave like atmosphere took me into an altered zone. Love the seating around grill, and I was surprised when the SHOW began. Our animated chef, clad in white chef-wear, began twirling knives and metal spatulas. The smell of ginger, soy sauce, garlic & onions and the sound of clashing metal filled the air. Truth be told, I'm a vegetarian & was skeptical that there wouldn't be enough options for me on the menu. I ate every bit & drop of ginger dressed salad and light savory soup. Finally stopped and tried Benihana- restaurant is very dark inside and loud, but I guess that is part of the table side performance. Clearly stated several times we didn't understand the process/menu and once I asked directly how to order got a very short answer. Lunch for two (5course) option with 1 water and 1 ice tea came to $117 with tip. Chef at the table was struggling food ended up pretty much everywhere. Had to stop and scrape egg shell out of the eggs he was cooking for the fried rice two different times. Soup was very strong, salad was tiny and had way too much dressing on it. Fried rice was ok, and the rest was edible. In the end for my half of the bill I got a chicken breast, 1 slice of zucchini, 1/4 cup of onion and a tsp of mushrooms. Was very disappointed. Dinner from Panda Express x3 would have been a better use of our time and money. Sorry I can't recommend this restaurant. Expensive lesson to learn. read more

I've gone to Benihana's for mine and my daughter's birthdays every year until this year and we're no longer going. First we were seated awkwardly at the corner of a super crowded table. I got up and asked to move to another table that had 5 extra seats. The chef arrives and the guy is obviously new so no fault to him but it affected the whole experience. He was good at first but then was a mess making the chicken fried rice because he shaped it into a heart and then did a heart attack and food flew everywhere. There was one small chicken breast, so now that you've made it where we have to pay $7 extra for that, I'd expect more chicken. It wasn't seasoned well and wished I had more soy sauce. He then did a trick where he was flipping the bowl with fried rice to hand to my daughter and it all dumped out right in front of her. Ok, we forgave that. Then he cooks the shrimp, then he starts on the chicken breast. He cooked the chicken where he cooked the shrimp and I stopped him because I don't eat shrimp and hate the taste, so I asked him to cook my chicken on another place on the grill. He did. But then he ended up putting chicken on my plate that was cooked where the shrimp was and gave someone else the chicken breast that he moved away from the spot. He overcooked the zucchini, which is our favorite but we couldn't eat it because it was mushy. He cooked onions and no mushrooms, which we love the mushrooms too and saw other tables had that. The chef experience was just horrible. On top of everything, the sake colada I ordered was not drinkable. The ice was chunky and diluted all other flavors in it. I had to send it back. The waitress was amazing so no complaints about her. But yesterday evening was the last evening we're going to Benihana's. I tipped well and felt bad to even bring any of this up to not embarrass the chef but I am really not happy. Sad because we loved that place. read more
