I couldn't reconcile the Italian "Belzoni's" name with "Catfish Cafe", so had to check this restaurant out to see what it was about. Turns out Belzoni is a town in Mississippi, and it claims to be the Catfish Capital of the World. This information is displayed on a large picture in the restaurant's small dining area. The interior is unremarkable but seems clean and well maintained. Chairs are surprisingly comfortable. The owner and cook, Mr Cooley, was friendly and you can tell he takes pride in preparing great catfish. Our server was also friendly and attentive. We ordered the catfish filet basket and the whole catfish basket. Our sides were corn, turnip greens, and onion rings. The server explained that each fish order is prepared fresh and will be extremely hot when it is served. And it was. After allowing a few minutes for the fish to cool, we found it to be excellent. The outer coating was crunchy but the fish was moist and flaky inside. Delicious. The fish is served with a tartar sauce that has a lot of flavor. The sides were all good, but there was nothing special about them. I recommend Belzoni's if you're looking for great catfish. read more

Been wanting to try this place out since they opened. Finally made it in a few weeks ago. We arrived right as they opened so we were the only patrons for most of our meal. Our waiter was super friendly, not overly knowledgeable as he recorded part of our order wrong, but we corrected it before he submitted it. My husband had heard they have good burgers here, and I'm a sucker for a good burger. We both ordered a burger with okra as our sides. He also placed a to-go order for a catfish plate. It took a little time to get our good. While the presentation looked good, I could immediately tell my burger was over cooked. Tried my first bite and yes, it was over cooked. The burger was dry and almost flavorless so I added some salt and pepper. Hubby and I both think the patties are frozen - not sure, but they definitely didn't taste fresh. Our mistake maybe for ordering a burger at a fish place. The okra was also over cooked and just didn't taste that great. I see a lot of other reviews talk about old oil, so that could possibly be the reason. I ate half the burger and took the rest home to the kiddo. When we got home, we tried the catfish. That was the real star of the show! It was still warm, the outside was perfectly breaded, the inside was flaky and tender. Stopped in for the post church lunch run. The customer service here is 5 of 5! My drinks were never empty, and they were glad to help out with menu decisions! Today was my first visit, I won't be back. Order the Double Catfish with okra and coleslaw. One piece of fish was thin so the outer edge was crunchy. The second was a larger piece. When I broke a piece off to eat a slimmy string pulled away and when I tasted it it wasn't pleasant. I smelled it and there was an odder to it. The okra and hush puppies were greasy. The grease tasted old. The coleslaw was edible but not spectacular. I don't like writing bad reviews, but I felt I should tell my experience. read more

Great little place, we ordered 2 single meals, each meal came with catfish and 2 sides, we chose 2 okras one mac and cheese, and one Cole slaw, we also ordered the Catfish rounds all to go. Well' I was a little disappointed, the service was great. We getting it to go and were going to eat in the car heading to Granbury to our lake house. The catfish was slightly fishy and the grease they fried it in had slightly unpleasant taste, I mean It was still good, I had better tasting catfish from there in the past. The fillets were large and the batter crispy so all said they have done better. It was near closing time so maybe that had something to do with taste with oil there were using. As soon as I came here, we were welcomed by an amazing group of people. They cannot have too many people in the restaurant so call in advance and let them know you are coming. By far this is the best catfish that I have ever had. The crust is so crispy and seasoned soo well. Mac and cheese was excellent as well. I wouldn't order the turnip greens they were too salty. I didn't personally like them. Stick with the green beans if you want vegetables. The sweet tea was also phenomenal! Since they have been located here in the area I have eaten here a few times. The fish is always fresh! I usually go through the drive thru but recently we ate inside and the customer service was so great. I walked in on a Tuesday a little leery as there wasn't car in the parking lot and i was the only guy in the place.. I was greeted by the friendliest folks ever. Like they just came from an Al Green concert. An awesome blues mix plying on the stereo and i knew i was going to be OK. It may have been the most perfect lunch ive had in years. After running some Saturday afternoon errands I got pretty hungry as I was surviving off a cup of coffee. I pulled into Belzoni's and was warmly greeted and welcomed in by the proprietor. The staff is so friendly with genuine smiles and conversation. And it's bright and clean which I always appreciate. I ordered the 2 piece Catfish Platter to go. The menu options are fried or grilled, I chose fried and they season their batter really well which makes me happy. I always crave an actual flavor not just plain corn meal batter, know what I'm saying. With the platter you select 2 sides. I went with turnip greens and fried okra. I enjoyed the greens the most. My daughter and I went to get us each 2 piece fish with 2 sides and corn sticks. 2 teas in small strip foam cups. 1 small single serving sweet potatoe pie. $47 We ordered ToGo since it was an hour before they close. Get home.. no sides in bag. WTH. So I go back to get sides. Get back to house The 2 pieces of fish weren't any bigger than the palm of your hand, the Mac and cheese was so over cooked it was mushy, okra was burnt, greens tasted like they were from a can and cornbread was frozen corn sticks. Okra and fries look like they were cooked a week ago in dirty oil, then reheated for each new order. The owner doesn't like to slice lemons either because it's too much work (quoted), so your catfish has to come with lemon juice packets. Oh, and don't ask him for a refill because he only fills up your cup half way, and if you ask for it to be filled up all the way you get an eye roll and a snarky remark. This place has made me a very happy woman! Unfortunately, I can not eat any of that often missed wondrous food made from wheat. This puts a lot of foods you wouldn't think are out of the picture - in the forbidden zone. Fried catfish has too often been one of them because many places muck it up by adding flour to their cornmeal. This place does it right!! Simple, perfect cornmeal purism! What I got was okra that was as dark as stained mahogany wood (extra dark). The catfish was fresh. Greasy fresh. When I asked for less darker okra I was told it would be more RAW...how about less overcooked...(I want to enjoy eating it). The service was good. I was greeted promptly. The place is clean.
