Review for Catfish & Company On Friday, March 13, 2026 around 1:00 p.m., I experienced some of the most inattentive service I have ever encountered at this restaurant. I was seated in a section where a waitress appeared to be focused on a large group of "Red Hat" ladies. She brought me an Arnold Palmer and hush puppies, but never returned to take my order. When my friend arrived, I informed her. She acknowledged us and said she would be back in a few minutes. What happened next was astonishing: she proceeded to serve multiple tables around us while completely ignoring our booth. Not once did she stop by to take our order, apologize for the delay, or even acknowledge that we had been waiting. Watching every surrounding table receive service while we were treated as if we were invisible was beyond frustrating--it was simply unacceptable. What makes this even more disappointing is that my family has a long history with this restaurant. We have celebrated birthdays, anniversaries, and retirements here over the years, which is why this experience felt so out of character and frankly disrespectful. To their credit, the assistant manager stepped in and reassigned our table to a male server, who immediately provided excellent service and salvaged the situation. However, the fact that a paying customer had to be rescued from being ignored at their own table suggests something is broken in the service culture. A refresher in basic hospitality--acknowledging guests, managing sections, and communicating delays--might be overdue. If I return, I will absolutely refuse to be seated in this server's section again--even if it means waiting. Because good food should never come with the side dish of being ignored. I was told they they do not sell real catfish, but swai fish which is much cheaper. It is illegal to market swai fish as catfish. I went back and ordered a full filet. Sure enough, it was swai fish. It had the indenture down the center of the filet and the round tail. Catfish does not have these features, but swai fish does. I even kept a sample and had it checked by a lab and they confirmed it was swai fish and not catfish. This is an illegal practice they are doing just to save some money. read more

It was another phenomenal visit to Catfish and Company with our dining out Toastmasters Club. Our group loves meeting at the restaurant. They've got a great private room and service is GREAT! Jessie, our server for the evening, greeted everyone as they arrived and took drink orders. My wife, who isn't a big fish lover, ordered her usual salad topped with chicken. I decided on the combination platter with catfish, stuffed crab, and fried shrimp, accompanied by a loaded baked potato. As we waited, we munched on Catfish and Company's incredible hush puppies. Been coming here for many years but sadly, last night was not good. Ordered fried green tomatoes as an appetizer. While waiting for that, the table in front of us got the waiters attention and said they needed to send their food back to the kitchen because their fried catfish was not cooked all the way. I think it could be updated a little bit but I do love the stained glass windows and giant fish tank , beautiful touch. The service was outstanding. Our waitress was informative, attentive, and kind. She made sure we were well taken care of and answered my menu questions. We ordered fried mushrooms for an appetizer, baby boil with extra crab clusters and fried white fish with fries and green beans. All of the food was great! I noticed the hush puppies that are brought out complimentary are balls instead of the sticks, that's kind of a bummer! But they were still tasty. Been going here for years. And pretty much the restaurant experience is a function of good management. I asked if the oysters were good(a valid question for oysters). Waitress said yes... She brought them out and the odor of them reached me long before they hit the table. They were flat out spoiled and rank. Sent them back with no apologies or acknowledgement. Ordered a Pepsi that never showed up so I walked around the restaurant and bar area to get something to drink....not a single emloyee in the front of the house. They brought out the salads and two minutes later they brought the entrees making everybody shove their salad to the side. Another birthday dinner ruined. They have two options: Cajun and regular. I went with the Cajun, and while it had a little flavor, it wasn't anything spectacular. The catfish tasted authentic, which I liked, but it didn't really stand out. Same with the hush puppies--decent, but not memorable. Prices were moderate, so no complaints there, but if you're going to make the trip, I'd definitely recommend doing the all-you-can-eat to get your money's worth. We went looking for a new catfish place and thanks to Yelp we decided to try Catfish & Company. Very nice atmosphere walking in the door. Clean, nice theme and friendly greeting. The hush puppies came out with our server. They are as addicting as the reviews suggest. I had the gumbo to start and it was good. Nice roux and just right amount of heat. Main course was catfish strips with fried shrimp. Light coating, crispy and fresh. Very nice. We also had a peach margarita that could serve four and was fantastic. I have been eating here for over 20 years. I moved from Hurst many years ago to a nearby city. Went over for Christmas dinner. Popcorn shrimp and grilled catfish for spouse. Service: OK. Catfish: just ok, edible. Popcorn shrimp: way overcooked and dark brown. Small shrimp hard, like the had been re-cooked. Sides: Okra- very good. Cole slaw- watery milk. Fries- really weird undercooked with lots of dark eyes.. Hush pups- round little over-cooked balls now, not the previous long one's that were very good Silverware: had to get up and get more, original had baked on food on the fork. yuk. Waaay overpriced for the quality. $42+ for 2 entrees, no drinks, no sides, and before tip. With drinks and a side, would have easily been over $60. This will probably be my last journey over there. It used to be good. It has slipped. I hope the owners read these reviews. Some corrections should be made. The cook and initial food quality are the main culprits. If it is not possible to make a consistent quality entre for the over-priced asking, make adjustments. I know things are expensive, but unfortunately, it is not my responsibility to support this as a charity. Back off the pricing, get a good cook. Consistency is they key. All the reviews made this place sound great. It was not yesterday. My catfish was very dry and tough - worst catfish I've had in I don't know when. Wife's "chicken breast" was 2 very thin slices of a chicken breast - not a whole chicken breast, served on top of a little tasteless rice for $20! Server did as well as he could, looked like he may have been the only one, but the food was not good, and certainly not worth those prices. I remember a Catfish and company being on White Settlement Road going towards River Oaks 40 or so years ago - it was good. Our families are long time patrons of this restaurant but were disappointed as this Sunday we asked for a specific server and was told he only had booths available and as both of my parents are handicapped and one is in a wheelchair; sitting in a booth was not an option. We were refused accommodation to have our usual and favorite server wait on us sitting at a table 3 ft from the section he was working. This was one of the worsts presentations and flavor i've ever had. The experience wasn't great either overall as well. I attached a picture of the crab legs and I was very underwhelmed when they came to the table but I was hoping that they would taste better.... unfortunately they didn't. The food was so salty! Not flavorful....SALTY! There is a big difference! The waitress was fed up with us and you could tell by her face, now we did have a large party so I somewhat understood, but we weren't being hard to deal with. We were a party over 8 so she was getting her tip no matter what so maybe that is why she didn't try.
