Original wall decor item
Kay K.

When I say I will never forget Shannon and Laura from the Beehive salon for the rest of my life, that is not an exaggeration. THESE WOMEN SAVED MY LIFE AND MY HAIR. First caveat, this is the weirdest accident that has ever happened to me and it was awful. To make a VERY long story short, I had a fluke accident when a pronged home decor item on my bathroom wall got caught in my hair while I was washing my face. When I first realized it was stuck, I figured soaking my hair in the tub with conditioner would loosen it. It did not. In fact, it made it so much worse and matted that it wound tighter to my head and I had to wait overnight until any salon was open the next day to assist. It was mortifying and very painful. The knotted up matting was so tangled at the crown of my head and I was positive I'd have to cut my very long hair off, something that I absolutely didn't want as I am one of those ridiculous people that has a very strong emotional connection to my hair. I called many salons in the neighborhood for help and the one that did have an appointment was a male barber shop and I just knew that wasn't the right place for me as I was having this total mental breakdown at the thought of being bald. I called the Beehive salon and talked to the ANGEL that is the front desk receptionist Daniela. She told me there were no appointments that day but she could hear the anxiety and sadness in my voice so after we hung up, she immediately texted me asking for a picture of the tangle and what it was stuck on. I sent it over and once she saw it, she informed me that Laura would be able to try to help. I was so thankful. Once I headed into the salon, Laura assessed the situation with such kindness, compassion and patience. I could tell from the look on her face that this tangle was BAD. But, she told me she is an avid jigsaw puzzle enthusiast so she would apply that expertise to this delicate situation. She then spent the next 8 hours meticulously pulling each strand of hair out of this tangle. She had to strategically snip some pieces and had to enlist the salon owner, Shannon, to help as they needed a second set of hands because this knot was so bad. Again, I was an emotional WRECK and the prongs were digging into my scalp so the physical pain was not helping either. Laura and Shannon spent time just talking through what was happening, being positive about the outcome, and patiently being supportive while I cried as I saw heaps of my hair on the floor. They even made sure to sweep up the hair every 30 minutes so I wouldn't see the copious amount of hair on the floor and have a full on panic attack. I think I asked them both if the decor item was going to come out of my hair about 32541 times and their response was, "You won't be leaving here with that on your head". The comfort they gave me was something I'll NEVER forget. Laura and Shannon worked TIRELESSLY standing on their feet in order to strategically cut strands to minimize me having to cut off all of my hair, and combing out the tangles once the hair was free from the prongs. Seven hours after I got to the salon, they were successfully able to remove the piece from my hair. All of the patrons at the salon who had been witnessing me crying with pain and anxiety all afternoon erupted in applause and that moment was something I'll never forget. Laura and Shannon then washed and deep conditioned my hair. It was only then that Laura told me that this tangle was one of the worst she has seen in her long career and when I walked in, she was certain I would have to cut my hair. I was so thankful that both her and Shannon kept their cool and were so patient in taking this out because they knew just how traumatized I was. By nothing short of a miracle, once my hair was brushed and conditioned, it turned out I didn't need to cut my hair at all. I was in awe. Truly. All of this is because of Laura and Shannon. I will never forget their kindness, compassion and patience. These two are true hair guardian angels and the gratitude and appreciation I have for them simply cannot be put into words. I think I told them I loved them about 20 times that day and I still don't think that was enough to express how thankful I am. Laura, Shannon and Daniela at Beehive are the most wonderful people and while I am sad we had to meet under such catastrophic circumstances, I'm so thankful that I walked into Beehive that day. I know no other salon would have been able to fix this nightmare both tactically, but also emotionally. Beehive Salon, I love you forever and always.

Just moved to the neighborhood and went to Beehive for the first time. It was really easy and straight forward to book and choose your stylist online before I went in. I love the fact that we don't have to wear to masks inside if we are vaccinated. For their cute deco and friendly staffs, I am coming back.

My hair before was orange, damaged, spotty, dry.

Charlie did an incredible job transforming my hair! Thank you We did a 4 hour color correction and these were the results. Couldn't thank you enough!

I moved back to Seattle after 30 years in NYC and luck lead me to Tristan (I followed him to Beehive from another salon). Tristan is skillful and creative. He shares ideas and then asks what I want. I love hearing about possibilities - sometimes I go for a new do or color, sometimes I don't. I always leave Tristan's chair feeling fabulous, delighted with my look, and pampered. Red is a difficult color to maintain, so all you redheads (or red-curious!) folx out there, your mane will be gorgeous after a session with Tristan.

erika is a master of fine hair. she gave my straight, fine, thin and limp hair a lovely, easy-maintenance look. when i told her i do not like to style my hair, and prefer a wash and go cut, she delivered. many stylists have used product, tools and techniques to give my hair a great finished look...but one that i cannot replicate at home. erika used a dash of aveda volumizing tonic and a diffuser to gently dry and scrunch my hair, producing a finish that mimicked air drying. i was able to recreate the look at home easily. although the "fantasy" look is fun, i appreciated her focus on reality, so that i did not end up disappointed a few days later. thank you, erika, for your attention to my preferences, and beautiful detail!

Lauren in the West Seattle salon gave me a flattering cut and highlights that turned out nowhere near as warm as I feared! Stylists usually tell me that my color will be "warm," which for me translates to "sparkly pumpkin." This color is so natural and in some light actually ice cold. Lauren is a genius with color and coarse hair. Her background in art really informs her understanding of weight, motion, balance, and color. And she is really nice about it if you show up with covid hair! I'll be able to grow out some grey in a cute, fun way.

My botched haircut "before" picture

Jessica fixed my botched haircut from a different salon and made me feel amazing again! Two days ago I had the horrible idea of getting a cheap haircut from Greatclips and lesson learned, when it comes to hair, take the high road and come to BeeHive for quality and expertise. It will be worth it every single time. When I walked in, my hair was flatly chopped at the bottom and the "layers" looked like Edward Scissor hands had a go at my hair after he had too many drinks and a nasty eye infection. Jessica listened so patiently about what happened, asked questions of how I wanted my hair to be and then followed up with a final "is there anything else you wanted to tell me about your hair or style". After and hour the WORLDS BEST SCALP MASSAGE (no joke) I walked out feelin my oats and strutting like queen B herself. Just kidding, but see before and after pics.

Does bleach include bleaching and dying my black hair hair to a specific color I want? Also can I get a silver balayage after bleaching it? Thank you.

My first impression of the facility was that it was clean and reminded me a little of Scandinavian style with light wood finishes and simple, classy design. There was a cozy place with chairs and a couch and a fireplace to lounge in, with turmeric ginger tea, strawberry water, regular water, and a few snacks (I didn't have any, I think it was nuts and dried fruit?). The locker room was spacious with a sauna, two huge showers, two toilets, and a changing area with lockers. some toiletries were provided as well. I appreciated that the lockers had a keypad so I didn't have to carry around a key. You can change in the changing area, but if you want more privacy, you are encouraged to go behind the door of the shower, where there's plenty of room to change. The sauna was nice and hot. Loved it. We both opted for the Om package which included a facial and a massage with one enhancement of choice. I have to say, the massage tables here are the most comfortable ones I've ever experienced. They are heated for your comfort, although they can turn off the heat if you run hot. My massage with Allison was lovely and super relaxing. Afterwards, I was brought back to the lounge area where I met up with my friend again and waited for my facial. The aesthetician, Kat, immediately gave off warm and friendly vibes, and I knew right away that she was going to be great. Her recommendations were spot on and her technique was fantastic. Again, so relaxing and I wish I didn't have to leave. Hands down the best facial I have ever experienced. We were allowed to check in an hour prior to our appointments and stay as long as we wanted it afterwards We ended up staying and talking for a couple more hours and enjoying the atmosphere. Every single person we encountered was kind, helpful, and seemed happy to be there. They have product recommendations at the end, but no hard upsell which I appreciated. I will 100% return. My friend and I both loved every minute of our day today.

Can't really recommend based on my experience.

I got lost trying to find the parking lot because there is a Hyatt across the street as well, I called and she followed on the map and told me exactly where to turn and how to get into the parking lot and the $13 valet parking was great in the building!! the only suggestion I have is to maybe use terry cloth robes instead of the heavy Sherpa lined older robes. Booking is super easy on the website, and they let you know the specifics of the different services and the costs of them all right there on the site. I booked a 60 minute deep tissue massage (my first ever deep tissue), and Taffy was AMAZING. I was literally left speechless at the end of the massage because she explained step by step what she was going to target and some areas I needed to draw my attention to. We literally worked together to find and release knots, and Taffy made it known that my feedback and response to certain areas was highly valued. I loved that the massage bed can be adjusted, the blankets were plush, the robes are fantastic. The music is there, and it's not distracting. -- For those who'd like a step by step: Enter the spa, get checked in. Locker rooms back out and to the left. These are the same locker rooms that hotel guests use for the pool. Sauna, steam room, bathroom, showers are here. They give you slippers and a robe to change into--take your time! There's a reason why they say to come 30 mins before your appt. Go back to the front desk, you'll be directed to the lounge area with lounge chairs, blankets, small snacks, and beverages. I took my time looking at the Eminence catalogue and just enjoying the ambiance. Bathroom is here, too. My only grievance about the lounge is that the chairs have dirt / oil stains on the head rest part. I think a sanitary towel or regularly washing this part would be great. Your technician will find you in the lounge at your time, and you'll go together to your room! This was pricier than what I've ever paid for a 60 min massage, but you get access to the pool, jacuzzi, sauna, steam room, etc. and discounted valet parking. Totally worth it! Would love to try a facial and a longer deep tissue massage sometime soon!

I'm afraid that's not why I'm leaving a review. I'm leaving a review because I've never left a massage feeling less relaxed than when I arrived. It wasn't anything I could ask my provider to adjust, like pressure level, it was just very poorly executed, awkward, and uncomfortable. This was a $325 massage and I would hope the therapists are trained well enough to keep their nails from interfering with the therapy and send you home feeling better than when you arrived. This was my second time visiting and both occasions were similar. Different therapist each time. I'm also disappointed by the owner's responses on reviews here where accusations are made regarding the truthfulness of reported experiences. My sale ID from my receipt is 470227. Penelope is a mismatch for its location. I wish it weren't! What a great opportunity Penelope has here. I'm afraid they should let someone else with more experience operate the space and relocate to somewhere along Aurora where they don't need pesky things like certifications, training, credentials, and amenities. Edit: I received an email response where the business chose to double down on the same type of feedback they provide to others on Yelp. Very dismissive. When all you can do is point a customer to your website as if that resolves issues, I don't know how you continue to attract new customers. Dropped the rating from 2 stars down to 1 star for that reason. !!! 2ND UPDATE: Hoist by their own petard I suppose! They sent a multi-page email threatening me with "defamation, business disparagement, and tortious interference" if I did not take down my review. They scrutinized my booking history (debating whether this was my first or second visit, as my previous visit was booked under my partner's name) and even admitted to digging through my Yelp history to criticize my other reviews. Does this seem like a good response to negative feedback to you? There are other spas at hotels in downtown Seattle, I'll certainly be visiting one of those next time and I recommend you do the same if you don't want to be threatened with legal action if you don't enjoy your massage.
