Massage quality = OK/fair Business practices = questionable Today's $159 lesson: if you want to be reimbursed by insurance for a medical (doctor referred) massage, go somewhere that is equipped to bill and code for insurance. I was asked to pay up front and then make a reimbursement claim through my insurer. I did do that but the claim was DENIED because MDB "doesn't do coding." HOWEVER, My Insurance requires a diagnosis code in order to pay a claim. Make sure to check if YOUR insurer requires this code BEFORE you schedule or prepay for a session at MDB. And whatever you do, do NOT pre-purchase a multi-session "plan" unless you know FOR SURE where things stand with your insurance. The folks at the clinic are not at all interested in facilitating any dealings with insurers over reimbursement. read more

This place definitely gave the ultimate treatment! I was in Seattle visiting family which I do from time to time. My back and body have been sore lately, especially after getting out of bed so I thought I'd try this place out. Somewhat lengthy review but I want to be thorough, as I feel this was a fantastic experience from start to finish. Look no further, this is the place to go for a massage. I spent quite a bit of time on yelp reading reviews and trying to find the "best" massage which is clearly a subjective topic. However, I am SO glad I found this place. After browsing yelp for way too long, I was somewhat "over it" and just had to book a massage somewhere. I sort of blindly booked here, as there is not much information on their website and no introduction of staff. I booked with David, and was a little hesitant because the prices are a bit steep, BUT usually in my experience premium prices equal premium products, so I went for it. They have a small office in a large building, fully equipped for COVID. I was greeted by one of the owners who was super sweet and took the time to talk and get to know me. I filled out some paper work and was quickly introduced to David and brought to my massage room. THE MASSAGE - David was very welcoming and professional. He took a few minutes to check my balance and posture, which no LMT has done before to me, and I have had *dozens* of massages, almost never from the same place twice. I expressed some tension in various places of my body which we briefly discussed. The massage was genuinely unlike any other I have had before. David really worked into my scapula (chest/back muscles) unlike anyone has ever done before. I am 32 years old, very active at the gym and work on my feet 45 hours a week. The point being - my body gets beat up and needs recovery. David addressed all the issues and REALLY spent time in the areas I mentioned, not a quick once over like I am familiar with from other massages in the past. I WANT intense, deep pressure and David was able to deliver. He clearly is very knowledgable and passionate about what he does, he took his time and was very calculated and precise in his pressure. I wouldn't call it trigger point therapy but he definitely knew the spots to hit and how to position my body to open up those spots. Had the worst massage of my life here, went in for stress relief, came out needing a chiropractor visit and a follow up massage elsewhere. First of all, prices are high, and I had to pay for parking (which I would be ok with if the massage was good). Was notified a spot opened and I could upgrade to 90mins, sure no problem, usually I end up wanting more table time. To the massage, asked for medium pressure which turned out to be too much, so I let her know, and it was still painful. I get massages/acupuncture/chiropractic care frequently, and the body work was terrible, just awful. On top of being painful and not relaxing, she hardly used lotion, so there was a lot of painful tugging. Also you can hear the garages near buy exit signals throughout. I mean take your chances if you want, I would highly recommend skipping this spot. read more

His manager calls and tells me the appt I made showed up canceled 30 minutes after making the appt and I have two accounts showing: he can't confirm this is true. It's not true. Not a good morning for me or Massage MBD. The issue is business practice rather than quality of service. I called Massage MBD because of an injury. I'm visiting Seattle and found this business through the map service on my phone. I made an appointment for the next day. When I realized I could not make this appt, I called to cancel and explain. I was told by a different reception person that I cancelled less than 24 hours and the policy is on the website. I pointed out I did not go through the website and there was nothing on the map app listing; I just pressed the number. I was not informed of the cancellation policy when I made the appointment. In trying to clear things up, I said I would come if I could. I arrived 20 minutes ahead. Door was locked and no one was here. I called and the reception person said she thought I cancelled and told the therapist not to come in. The receptionist could not make a business decision. The owner was not reachable until afternoon, though the receptionist had a number for him. My flight leaves midday. So I'm out the cost of massage and gratuity, with no apparent recourse. I have a 24-hour no refund policy for my business, but accommodate special circumstances. All I can think is, despite the ratings that got my attention, business can't be that good. read more

Massage MDB was definitely a 5-star experience. I opted to have my massage at the downtown Seattle location, which is very convenient and the treatment room is pleasantly quiet, even as it sits atop the hustle and bustle of urban life. I ran a few minutes late heading into my appointment right after work, but Sheila greeted me with a warm smile and instantly made me feel relaxed. Her calming presence allowed me to take a deep breath and get settled. The treatment itself was excellent! Her pressure was strong and firm, which is how I prefer my massages, but she was very receptive to adjusting pressure and technique based on any feedback (I didn't really have to give any, so all the better!). The table was heated, linens soft and fresh, and there were even some really nice touches that I haven't really experienced in previous massages, like hot towels during and after the treatment to refresh the skin and absorb excess oil. All in all, I would highly recommend Massage MDB to anyone who needs to decompress and enjoy a little rejuvenation. It's well worth it! :) read more
