So, I was supposed to have an appointment this afternoon. I am a 100% disabled veteran and it takes a lot of effort to get to an appointment. The VA sent letters for authorization, I have copies. I was told they do not take any insurance nor VA referrals.. That's fine, I don't blame them for that. I called several times, days before my appointment, their voice mail says do not leave a message but to email them. I sent 2 emails, on 6/27 and 6/23. With no reply. I left a message on the phone the last time I called the week before my appointment. No reply to email not voicemail. First thing Heather (who seemed very nice) asked if I called and left a message, which I had to laugh inside when she asked since the message says not to. On my way out Kate came out and I asked her to please return emails. She knew about the messages I sent and just never bothered to reply to me nor the VA. I cannot say anything about there massages but the costomer care or just plain human courtesy is sorely lacking. read more

I have an autoimmune condition that causes chronic pain, seeing Kate weekly has been one of the most significant therapies for me and much better than physical therapy, believe it or not! I love Kate and Heather so much. I just moved to CA and moving away from Kate's Day Spa was one of the harder parts of that move. In my 4 years in Seattle I probably went monthly and would alternate between seeing Kate and Heather (usually just based on availability). They have different styles of massage but both are great in their own way. I'm also someone who doesn't like making massage appointments very far in advance and I was usually able to get in with 24 hours notice. I was so pleased with the massage I got at Kate's Day Spa that I decided to write my first review on Yelp, though I've read many reviews here as well as on other review sites. I was surprised to see a recent negative review so I'm glad I came here to do it. An acquaintance recommended the spa when she found out that I've been getting massages since the 1970s. I loved the flavor of the spa as soon as I entered the small, comfortable, lobby. More like a sitting room. Relaxing. Smell, decor, colors, lighting, antiques, etc. Perfect for my taste. I've noticed that as massage has grown in popularity over the years, places have sprung up that more resemble a medical clinic lobby and treatment room. Minimalist decor, bland colors (noncolors), and a sterile feeling to things. In addition to a great massage, atmosphere is everything to me in this venue. My massage was exactly what I expect from an experienced therapist and I was able to have deep tissue work done on my lower back. I'll be returning for a massage, but I've scheduled a facial in the meantime later this week. No complaints. read more

I booked an appointment same day and it's my first time going here since they are the only one that's currently open. I normally go some place else. I definitely needed some massage but I admit my mistake that I forgot my appointment as I'm not used to going out due to the covid situation. I called in to say sorry that I missed it by 20mins (I know it's a lot) but I got more stressed after talking to the staff and then Kate as well. They were saying that they don't know if they trust me enough to reschedule me just to forget and Kate said "we run a tight ship here". Come on give me some slack! I like a nice good. Good service tells me stability and sometimes that is what we each need. This was my first experience here after seeing and hearing about this shop. What I like most about this shop is the hours of service. Its difficult to find evening hours on a weekday, and that is what I found by one of their practioners. I appreciated not only the evening hour, but I also called the day before and got in! Pretty great! Its located in the Madison Valley, which means some of their treatment rooms may be near the main roadway as mine was. This was a bit distracting, but not terribly bad. The room I was in was nicely decorated and had lots of dark shades to keep the room dim, which was great. Tiffany, my massage practioner, did a good job and was friendly and open to my feedback. Kate is knowledgeable and responsive. She truly understands the muscles and how they work together. I've had a few massages here and I feel like her warm, caring nature and willingness to try different things (scraping tool, massage gun) has helped me with my chronic anxiety and tense muscles. W.o.w.... How do I say this nicely. Ok -- I can't.... probably the worst customer service I have ever experienced from a spa. It was a Friday after work. I am pregnant. I have pretty extreme lower back pain and I was looking forward to a great massage, judging from the Yelp reviews. First of all, I rescheduled my initial appointment due to a work conflict. Totally my fault, they graciously let me move it, but then said they couldn't confirm the Friday 6pm slot, but would call me back before the appointment. By Friday afternoon, no one had called me. So I called and left a message. I received a voicemail back at 5:40pm confirming my 6pm massage so I booked it over there. I arrived 15 mins late, there was no receptionist. I rang the bell at the receptionist desk over and over. I called and listened to my call ring endlessly. Over 10 mins later, the other therapist ran out, apologized, and said she was in the middle of the massage but called my therapist Heather for me. Heather on the phone -- did not apologize, ask to reschedule, or explain why there was no one here... was not friendly at all, and went straight into accusing me of being over 10mins late because she "had just walked out the door at 6:10". (couldn't you have dialed me to see if I was on my way?) I said "yes, I am sorry, I just got the message that it was confirmed until 5:40, so I drove over right away" (they close at 8pm, so I had no idea I was her last appointment) Heather - "Well we're going to work out a better system where we can rely on each other. Because I'm not going to sit around waiting for you" Me - "That is a great attitude for a new customer. Thank you. Bye". We're not friends. We don't rely on each other. I'm a customer who is paying for a service. I don't need that animosity from a spa. Taking my back pains elsewhere, where I don't get a pain in the ass attitude as an add on service. read more

Now that I am not so aggravated, I would like to add a couple things. Heather is an awesome massage therapist, and I highly recommend her. I have only had a massage from Kate once, but she was great too. I hate making phone calls, so online booking is a must for me. After this snafu with online booking, I would suggest just calling Kate's to make your appointment, so that really takes it out of the running for me personally. But if you don't mind calling, it might be just perfect for you. And finally, I think my main complaint was the totally blasé attitude of Kate (the owner) when she called me. I have been a client there for some time, so to call and move my appointment RIGHT before I was supposed to be there without a word of (understandable) explanation or any sort of "I'm sorry" just really does not sit well with me. It's no way to treat any client, but especially not one who has been with you for years. So with that said, the massages are great, but I personally will not be returning. read more

My massage at Kate's was good, but the broader experience was... Awkward. Really awkward at several different points. I should have known better. Before I even showed up, I didn't get a reply from the spa when I submitted a question via their web site. When I did show up, the awkwardness began right off the bat when the only one to greet me upon entering the building was the dog. The human at the front desk didn't address me until I - finally - addressed her. Only then did she even ask me who I was and why I was there. Why else would I be there? This was a common theme as my masseuse didn't know my name either. The steam room was out of service so don't get your hopes up there. Technically, their website is accurate: They do, in fact, have a steam room on the premises. My assumption that it would be functional steam room was my only mistake on that front. There would be no steam for me today. The massage was good, but awkward - like a lot of other things that I experienced at Kate's. In general, it just felt as though nobody at Kate's wanted to be doing what they were doing - like the hipster barista at your local coffee joint who's only working there until his blog covering vintage mustache grooming accessories finally takes read more

They take my insurance - both my current insurance and the insurance I had at my previous job. They have free parking in back. They have evening hours, which is fantastic for those of us who work during the day. And they give fantastic massages. What more could you ask for? read more

This place was exactly what I needed. I felt very welcomed by Kate and her dog. How adorable to have a dog greet you when you come in. She knew exactly what I needed, she listened to me and I felt so relaxed when I was done. The space is nice, and I was able to book a day a head of time. I live just a couple blocks away, but made it into Kate's for the first time this evening with my roommate. We booked a half an hour in the incredible private steam room, followed by massages. The steam room is amazing and comes with a shower, so you can cool off a bit in the middle of the steam if needed (I needed, multiple times). Our massages were great and the ambiance of the rooms was lovely. Kate is super cool and going here definitely feels like your supporting local, good business. I see Heather for massages, and she is consistently wonderful! I needed a massage but was self conscience about my eczema. Not only was she warm and professional but didn't blink an eye about the eczema. Since then she is my go-to-gal for massages! I had a facial with Kate for the first time this year, and she is a miracle worker! She could tell why I was having trouble in the same spots (tip: Don't touch your face!) and gave me some advice about my skin care regiment. Not only was she knowledgable but she truly cares about helping me get flawless skin. In short both ladies are warm, professional and very talented. read more

Kate's is my favorite place for massages! I've tried many massage providers, from the cheap introductory rated ones with newbie therapists to high end pricey spas, and have always returned to see Kate's. They provide fabulous service at great prices and also accept insurance. This is a 2-3 therapist spa tucked away from the main street in a cute shopping complex in Madison Park. They have several parking spots in the garage below them or tons of street parking makes it really convenient. The spa is cozy, inviting, and has a very relaxing ambience. They also have a steam bath, which I love to relax in for 15 minutes before my massge. It really helps me relax my muscles and allows the therapist to dig in and hit my tension areas. I always feel so much better after visiting Kate, both physically and spiritually. She's easy to talk to and has a therapeutic vibe that's comforting. I highly recommend Kate's to anyone searching for a massage therapist in the Seattle area. read more

You know when you haven't been to the gym in three months and you're just getting back into weight lifting and you turn your head to look at yourself in the mirror and you tweak your neck? Ha ha, me either! What a funny hypothetical scenario. If that ever DID happen to you, though, I know where you should go: Kate's Day Spa. I've been there three times now for massage (and it only just occurred to me that it has always been right after I return to the gym after a hiatus), and I love it. This most recent time, I took the latest massage slot (7:45 PM on a weekday) and arrived to find Kate herself and Lily, her sweet little dog, waiting for me. I was early so they ushered me into the waiting room while Kate made up the table. Every part of this small space relaxes me, from the stone floors and comfortable seating, to the sound of the little fountain (Lily's water bowl, actually, but the effect is the same). I've had three different massage therapists and I had an amazing experience with 2/3 of them. Unfortunately I can only remember Kate's name, because she was most recent. Kate has a warm, sure touch; I felt very nurtured by her. She checked in just enough to let me know that she cared about my comfort without interrupting my zen-like state. She even taught me something about musculature when she ran into a ticklish spot on my back, showing she knows her anatomy! At one point, she used a cool stone (I think?) to massage my soles and the knots in my shoulder; at another, she put a steamed towel around my face. I don't make very many sounds when I'm being massaged by a professional (because I don't want to creep them out), but I noticed with some amusement that I thought, "Hell yeah!" several times without meaning to, when something felt particularly good. I definitely fell asleep at the end. One of the best things about this spa is that they will take insurance, which means I can pay with my HSA card. I think I should make massage a more regular part of my wellness! read more

Horrible experience with this place. My wife booked a couples massage for us, called and cancelled a week in advance with the intention of rescheduling within the week. We called again on the morning of the day of our original appointment to reschedule for the following week. No one was there so we left a message saying that we had cancelled. Got a call back from them later in the afternoon asking where we were and why we werent at our appointment. Confused, we explained that we spoke to someone a week ago and cancelled and now wanted to reschedule. My wife was super polite and cordial (I was sitting next to her) when the woman on the phone called us liars and threatened to charge us because we didnt abide by their 24hr cancellation policy. I couldnt believe what I was hearing! She was incredibly rude and repeated calling my wife a liar as she calmly explained the sequence of events and that the intention was to reschedule. This obviously did not happen. In the end they attempted to charge us. I have never heard of anyone conducting business in this manner. The saddest part of this is that we live in the neighborhood and are frequent spa-goers. We typically like going to another place but wanted to support our local community and try Kate's. Now, instead of having a vocal advocate for their business they will have a local resident with a terrible experience. Good luck with your business. read more

The best massage I've ever had was at Kate's! The first time I went it was because I had terrible neck pain that was causing intense headaches. After talking to BOTH therapists, they helped me figure out that it was from a new shoulder rest (I'm a violinist) that I had just started using. I proceeded to get the best massage of my life and the pain was gone. It was like a really cool doctor's appointment. I've been going there for massages ever since. Kate's has been in business for over 20 years and it shows. There is no pretentious vibe - just a safe and comfortable atmosphere. They also have a private steam bath, which I haven't tried, but my husband adores. With free parking in the back, this place adds convenience to its long list of amazing qualities. read more

The massage was good, but the owner lacks the professionalism that one expects from businesses like this. During our massage, she insinuated that I was cheap because I asked if she had a program like Massage Envy that allows you to subscribe to monthly massages. A little dog was running around, which was probably fine, but again lacked a little bit of professionalism. I was late for my second appointment, and I rushed over when she called to let me know. When I got there, I texted, called and waited for 10 minutes in the waiting room, but I didn't get any replies. I got the impression she was ignoring me because I could hear someone in the next room moving around, and she must not have had another customer since I was the one to have that slot. When she did reply after I left, she insisted on knowing my reason for missing the appointment and not calling. She texted me four times asking why. I apologized for missing it, but she seemed to take it personally. I would have happily paid a fee for missing my appointment and ended up giving her the rest of a gift card balance as a concession, but I was left with a bad taste in my mouth from the interaction. I can't help but feel there are a lot of other massage therapists who have the experience and the professionalism. read more

I now have had the pleasure of being worked on by both massage therapists - Kate and Heather. Wow. I have had my share of massage in my time, and these people are outstanding. They know their deep work and treatment massage, and they are credentialed insurance providers - but from the spa side, they also know YUMMY. They offer a full range of body treatments as well as facials and waxing. The steam bath is a lovely complement to treatments. This is a true nurturing sanctuary, with no pretentiousness and all the heart and soul of the practitioners. read more

I have been to MANY massages in Seattle (like over a 100) ranging from fancy hotels to small boutiques, and i have to say, Kate is an awesome masseuse! I think doing this for 30 years lends itself to a lot of experience that newer salon like massages don't have. I rarely post reviews but had to make an exception. I was very disappointed with their service. I am pregnant and have been experiencing some lower back pain. Hoping to get some desperate relief, I called asking for an appt today. Was told that 4pm is available. When I showed up for the appt, I was told that since they had a power outage, they had double booked and that they could no longer accommodate me. Least to say I am extremely disappointed. There are many things that the staff who scheduled my appt could have done, she could have checked with the therapist to avoid this situation. Thanks to her incompetency, I have to suffer through the pain tonight with no relief. Even though they are 5 mins from where I live, I have no intention of returning to this salon ever again. read more

I am loyal customer to this place - been there more than 10+ times and have always used HSA (paid by company). While I want to say I think the massage is fine, the customer service is really disappointing. For some reason, today they cannot recognize an Insurance Card for payment as the place is newly classified as a Salon. While it is common sense that people choose places based on these insurance options, I shared my comment that now I will have to pay out of pocket. The response was: I know, you don't have to explain. but as I said, we cannot fix it. Giving a really jerk face. really disappointing. how can we trust a therapist who have talked to you like this, or will think they can talk with you like this, and have her work your pains. read more

I've continued to come back (even though now I live in a completely different city) for the simple reason that Kate hires competent practitioners and has reasonable prices.
