When I say I will never forget Shannon and Laura from the Beehive salon for the rest of my life, that is not an exaggeration. THESE WOMEN SAVED MY LIFE AND MY HAIR. First caveat, this is the weirdest accident that has ever happened to me and it was awful. To make a VERY long story short, I had a fluke accident when a pronged home decor item on my bathroom wall got caught in my hair while I was washing my face. When I first realized it was stuck, I figured soaking my hair in the tub with conditioner would loosen it. It did not. In fact, it made it so much worse and matted that it wound tighter to my head and I had to wait overnight until any salon was open the next day to assist. It was mortifying and very painful. The knotted up matting was so tangled at the crown of my head and I was positive I'd have to cut my very long hair off, something that I absolutely didn't want as I am one of those ridiculous people that has a very strong emotional connection to my hair. I called many salons in the neighborhood for help and the one that did have an appointment was a male barber shop and I just knew that wasn't the right place for me as I was having this total mental breakdown at the thought of being bald. I called the Beehive salon and talked to the ANGEL that is the front desk receptionist Daniela. She told me there were no appointments that day but she could hear the anxiety and sadness in my voice so after we hung up, she immediately texted me asking for a picture of the tangle and what it was stuck on. I sent it over and once she saw it, she informed me that Laura would be able to try to help. I was so thankful. Once I headed into the salon, Laura assessed the situation with such kindness, compassion and patience. I could tell from the look on her face that this tangle was BAD. But, she told me she is an avid jigsaw puzzle enthusiast so she would apply that expertise to this delicate situation. She then spent the next 8 hours meticulously pulling each strand of hair out of this tangle. She had to strategically snip some pieces and had to enlist the salon owner, Shannon, to help as they needed a second set of hands because this knot was so bad. Again, I was an emotional WRECK and the prongs were digging into my scalp so the physical pain was not helping either. Laura and Shannon spent time just talking through what was happening, being positive about the outcome, and patiently being supportive while I cried as I saw heaps of my hair on the floor. They even made sure to sweep up the hair every 30 minutes so I wouldn't see the copious amount of hair on the floor and have a full on panic attack. I think I asked them both if the decor item was going to come out of my hair about 32541 times and their response was, "You won't be leaving here with that on your head". The comfort they gave me was something I'll NEVER forget. Laura and Shannon worked TIRELESSLY standing on their feet in order to strategically cut strands to minimize me having to cut off all of my hair, and combing out the tangles once the hair was free from the prongs. Seven hours after I got to the salon, they were successfully able to remove the piece from my hair. All of the patrons at the salon who had been witnessing me crying with pain and anxiety all afternoon erupted in applause and that moment was something I'll never forget. Laura and Shannon then washed and deep conditioned my hair. It was only then that Laura told me that this tangle was one of the worst she has seen in her long career and when I walked in, she was certain I would have to cut my hair. I was so thankful that both her and Shannon kept their cool and were so patient in taking this out because they knew just how traumatized I was. By nothing short of a miracle, once my hair was brushed and conditioned, it turned out I didn't need to cut my hair at all. I was in awe. Truly. All of this is because of Laura and Shannon. I will never forget their kindness, compassion and patience. These two are true hair guardian angels and the gratitude and appreciation I have for them simply cannot be put into words. I think I told them I loved them about 20 times that day and I still don't think that was enough to express how thankful I am. Laura, Shannon and Daniela at Beehive are the most wonderful people and while I am sad we had to meet under such catastrophic circumstances, I'm so thankful that I walked into Beehive that day. I know no other salon would have been able to fix this nightmare both tactically, but also emotionally. Beehive Salon, I love you forever and always. read more

Just moved to the neighborhood and went to Beehive for the first time. It was really easy and straight forward to book and choose your stylist online before I went in. Beehive Salon is no longer in Tangletown. I have gone to them twice - each experience was pleasant. One time was before COVID, the second time was during. Both times I was promptly greeted by the receptionist and offered water. The salon smells amazing, they have quality products for sale in front (the same products they use on their customers). I've only ever gotten my hair cut, I've never used their other services. I love hearing about possibilities - sometimes I go for a new do or color, sometimes I don't. I always leave Tristan's chair feeling fabulous, delighted with my look, and pampered. I go to both the Queen Anne and West Seattle locations. They are both awesome. I see Shannon at Queen Anne and Lisa at West Seattle. I have naturally wavy-straight hair. Pretty straight forward hair, but they do a great job with my long hair, long + elegant (soft) layers. Simple cut, but believe me, other places have messed that up by being too 'choppy.' Happy with this salon and will keep coming back! The layers grow up really well too. I like that you can also book different artists based upon your budget too - so if you can't afford the most senior person, go for a junior person and still get a great cut! erika is a master of fine hair. she gave my straight, fine, thin and limp hair a lovely, easy-maintenance look. when i told her i do not like to style my hair, and prefer a wash and go cut, she delivered. many stylists have used product, tools and techniques to give my hair a great finished look...but one that i cannot replicate at home. erika used a dash of aveda volumizing tonic and a diffuser to gently dry and scrunch my hair, producing a finish that mimicked air drying. i was able to recreate the look at home easily. although the "fantasy" look is fun, i appreciated her focus on reality, so that i did not end up disappointed a few days later. thank you, erika, for your attention to my preferences, and beautiful detail! read more

Just had my first visit to Beehive Salon a few weeks back and I had my haircut by Candice. She did an excellent job! I've been going to the same hair stylist for the past few years and she recently moved out of the country. My mother recommended Beehive and i'm so glad I came in. I was terrified to try a new stylist as my hair is long/very thick and I've had some pretty terrible experiences in the past. She did very good job on hair cut and gave some great suggestions on what to do about my damaged hair. She spends time trying to understand what you want and provides great suggestions. Lauren in the West Seattle salon gave me a flattering cut and highlights that turned out nowhere near as warm as I feared! Stylists usually tell me that my color will be "warm," which for me translates to "sparkly pumpkin." This color is so natural and in some light actually ice cold. Lauren is a genius with color and coarse hair. Her background in art really informs her understanding of weight, motion, balance, and color. And she is really nice about it if you show up with covid hair! I'll be able to grow out some grey in a cute, fun way. read more

I have been seeing Elliot for my hair needs for some time now. She has colored my hair, cut my hair several times, keratin treatment and also done multiple hair spas and blow dry. I really recommend her, she does a great job and is very honest. She tries to understand what you want and works with you to make sure you are happy. She also recommends products that are useful but doesn't try to sell you products you don't really need if your current hair care routine is fine as is. Jessica fixed my botched haircut from a different salon and made me feel amazing again! Two days ago I had the horrible idea of getting a cheap haircut from Greatclips and lesson learned, when it comes to hair, take the high road and come to BeeHive for quality and expertise. It will be worth it every single time. When I walked in, my hair was flatly chopped at the bottom and the "layers" looked like Edward Scissor hands had a go at my hair after he had too many drinks and a nasty eye infection. Jessica listened so patiently about what happened, asked questions of how I wanted my hair to be and then followed up with a final "is there anything else you wanted to tell me about your hair or style". I made an appointment here based on the fact that my close friend goes here. I'm in from out of town. They called me 1 hour before my appointment asking me to come in later, then told me that it would take 3 hours, which I've never heard of for this service. When I said that I could not come in later, they told me to reschedule, which makes zero sense because I am here from out of town. I work FT and am a parent I have zero free time so it's highly annoying when I take the time to make an appointment and the other end is not held up. I would imagine that Beehive is a great salon for women's haircuts. Came here on the suggestion of my wife. Called beforehand to make sure they do cuts for men. Price didn't appear to have been mentioned prior to getting my cut or posted anywhere. $55 seemed a bit on extravagant for a simple cut. It's probably the area. Had to do a little trimming myself the following day. The salon is very spacious and nicely decorated. It smells nice and clean. Herbal tea is served piping hot. Only one esthetician on staff according to the description. Staff seems heavily tattooed. read more

I've been to Beehive Salon twice now, and I have had a pretty great experience during both visits with Desiree. In Eugene, back in May, I started the progress to transition from my dark brown-blue hair back to a light, bright blonde. I saw an Aveda colorist a few times in Oregon before moving to Seattle. Desiree has done an excellent job at matching me with the right color & tone that I'm looking for. Because I have been pre-booking my appointments, I've received complimentary deep conditioning treatments during both of my visits. She's also given me the option to do a scalp treatment. Desiree has been using the balayage technique on my hair, and I love the natural-looking result. My ONLY complaint is that last time, she didn't do so hot with my roots. A few days later, I realized that the roots were painted in a pretty straight line which has made my grow-out really obvious. Before ever visiting Beehive, I did a great deal of research on Aveda and non-Aveda salons in the city. I found that Beehive received steadily good reviews, and the prices here are a little lower than other Aveda salons (like Habitude). I'm writing this review during a time of uncertainty. Seattle, the nation, and much of the world are currently practicing social isolation and trying to limit the spread of pandemic. As a result of this, many businesses have had to close their doors. Many of these businesses are pillars of our communities. They are places we visit because they offer goods and service we're looking for, yes, but we also continue to visit them either because we identify with their values, we make strong connections, or they simply make us feel and look good. Beehive Salon does all of these things. I started going to Beehive Salon in Tangletown shortly after moving to the neighborhood in 2008. I honestly don't remember who my stylist was, but I do recall a friendly environment, a nice vibe, and excellent haircuts. Fast-forward a few years, and my husband and I opened our own hair salon in Seattle. We have continued to cross paths over the years with Shannon, the owner of Beehive, through forums and get-togethers of other salon owners in the area. We have always admired her warmth, gregariousness, and ability to lead her team and business. We were also very excited to see Shannon open a 2nd location for Beehive in West Seattle. Occasionally we have received resumes from stylists that we didn't have a position for, and without hesitation directed them to Beehive and Shannon's excellent leadership as a great place to build their careers. Who knows when we're all going to reopen, and what that might look like, but right now, we're all turning to our computers to stay connected. I've been seeing several great ideas about what we can do to support our local businesses during this shutdown, one of which is to leave a great online review in order to help them get more customers when they reopen. So this evening, I've decided to turn off the news for a bit, and recognize Shannon and her team for their stellar work. If you're reading this review, and have ever visited Beehive Salon, whether it was yesterday or 15 years ago, give them a bump and a shoutout. Oh yes! Its true. You can trust the reviews. After finally finding a great stylist, he got up and moved to (of all places) my old home town of San Francisco. NO !!! I was in a world of hair hurt. I floated by for months and months and months, but now I am happily buzzing around Beehive Salon, and finding that the stylists. the prices and the services here are excellent, AND they serve that delightful Aveda tea you get at the Aveda store. I can't tell you how many times I've wandered into an Aveda store with a tea craving, jonesing, and just hoping to score some of that highly addictive Aveda tea. This is a far, far better option, as the tea comes piping hot, in a large steaming mug and you can sit down and enjoy it (how hard is it walking around the Aveda store with that tiny little cup sloshing around? Gesh!) At the end, walk out a great cut and color and some friendly service. I have to say I was initially put off that the front office staff was completely unwilling to recommend anyone specific for cut or color. I mean they went seriously Switzerland on me. "Well...all our stylists are good. I really couldn't say if one was any better than another. I really depends on you." Ggggrrrrr!!! But I checked a few Yelp reviews for names and stumbled into a good cut, then tried someone else for color, and yes, I was very happy with the result. Switzerland wins! (Tip: Buy a gift certificate at the Aveda store downtown or in UVillage, and take this to the salon if you want to earn Pure Privilege points based on your salon services, including tip!) Did I mention I use Tisha for color, who offers a hand-massage while she rinses your hair? You can thank me later! I went in for a hair color. I was extremely nervous since I hadn't colored my hair before but, was looking for some change. I have been to beehive before for a haircut and was happy with it so thought of trying to get my hair color done here. Big mistake! I showed the stylist pictures of what I wanted and she recommended partial highlights, though I wanted a partial balayage. The color is very uneven and patchy and the partial highlights give it a very ugly look. I am extremely disappointed in the work that was done and sad that I'll port have to spend more money to get it fixed now. I am very upset because this is something I am going to be looking at everyday now. 2 stars because I still like the haircut. I would not recommend this place for color based on my personal experience. You are welcome to take a look at how badly my color turned out and save yourself time & money. read more

I've been seeing Schona here for at least 3 years for both cutting and coloring. She also did my hair for my wedding, and I loved it. She always has great advice about what to do with my hair, and can help reel me back from some of my crazier ideas. Even though this is an Aveda salon, I never feel pressured to purchase their products, but they do always leave my hair feeling clean and smelling (and looking) good. The salon is lovely inside, it's always very clean and the decor is very cute. The staff are always friendly and offer coffee, tea, etc. Parking is surprisingly easy in the surrounding neighborhood as well. read more

After my last visit with Erika, Shannon reached out to me to come back get my hair fixed with Meg since she was so good with my hair. After consulting with the both of them they recommended I do a complete new balayage to make sure I will be happy with my hair so we rescheduled for a different day to come back. I love that Meg was so accommodating to make sure i was taken care of right away even though she was fully booked. They gave me a free olaplex treatment which was super nice since my hair is so damaged and she even styled me afterwards. I wasn't expecting to spend $200 but it is what it is and I'm glad my hair is fixed now and back to what it looked like before. Meg is amazing and her personality is awesome so I will definitely be back to see her in the future, thank you guys so much for all you did for me! read more

I live out of state now so I book an appointment whenever I'm in town and most recently booked with Elliot. So glad I did. I had not touched my hair for months after being a new mom and was desperate. She was so helpful and honest when it came to styling my hair. Her product recommendations have been amazing. I had my hair and makeup done here for my wedding/elopement on August 25th. We had initially just planned to do a courthouse thing, but then we invited our parents and siblings, and it seemed easier to get married in a garden with just family. But given we were getting married in such a pretty spot, we decided to get all dressed up and take photos, and that meant booking last minute hair/makeup. Bee Hive was close and affordable--much less than the more than $300 other operations wanted to charge--and they were able to squeeze me in last minute in the midst of wedding season. Both the women (I'm so sorry I don't remember their names) who did my hair and makeup were lovely and made sure to check with me at multiple points in the process to make sure I was happy with the way things were looking. I arrived with my hair wet (silly me) and they had to dry it before starting the updo, but they were incredibly gracious about it. I had a friend who made a flower crown for me, and the hair stylist was very thoughtful about arranging my hair so it would be compatible with the crown (hard because I didn't have the crown with me). Their makeup (Aveda) is fairly light and natural, but that's what I was looking for. I was weirdly picky about my lip color and the stylist was very patient and creative. This is a late review. I was there once in June and once in September at the Tangletown location. I was referred there by someone. In June, the experience was great except that the front desk reception required me to use their hand sanitizer that had a fragrance. Since I am allergic to fragrances, I asked if I could wash my hands instead. She would not let me because she said I would need to walk through the whole salon to the back which would defeat the purpose. Reluctantly, since I didn't want to cancel my appointment, I put it on my hands. I then asked why I couldn't have used my own in my purse. She then said that I could, and I wondered she didn't offer that option earlier since it was "too late". At this point, I was distressed and then had to wash it off. The haircut was fine and so I returned in Sept and used my own hand sanitizer that time. Although the hairstylist did a great job and even curled my hair, she sprayed on tons and tons of Aveda hairspray. I have very fine, soft hair and it took 2 full washes to remove it. Unfortunately, it was like glue in my hair and broke off some of it. It looked like balls of hair glued together that remained in the bathtub. I wrote to explain this and instead of investigating or even just apologizing, the owner wrote me never to come back. I then called Aveda and explained what happened and they listened to me in the way I expected the owner to listen. The Aveda agent said that a little goes a long way with any of their products. read more

After reading comments from fellow Yelpers, I decided to come in to Beehive Salon and see Anna. Anna was nice and pleasant. She asked me what I wanted and stuff. So when before I had my hair cut, I came in with my hair iron-curled. Anna thought that I should have my hair styled the way it was when I came in. From the way she said it, I totally thought it was supposed to be a complimentary service.However, it would take a lot of time. So I told her to just kind of straighten my hair a little bit instead. When I went up to the counter to pay, Anna told the cashier that I was supposed to be charged an extra $15 for it. After Anna left, the girl also snapped at me. She thought I should have let them know in advance if I had wanted my hair done after the haircut, so that they could arrange Anna's schedule. I was hurt by this. First of all, I DID NOT ASK FOR IT Second of all, I WAS CHARGED FOR IT And third.. I FEEL INSULTED I have been thinking over this and thought that I should just let it go, but I think people should know that this salon is not indeed the most perfect salon. Cheers! read more

I just got my hair cut here again today. And I wanted to restate my love for this place and Kirby. Really, she is amazing and does such a great job. Plus, she makes it fun to talk to while you get your hair cut - none of that cheesy small talk crap. The place is nice and clean, the ladies who work at the desk are always super friendly, and the other stylists seem to have just as happy of customers too. Between now and the last time I was here, I tried a few other places - mostly out of convenience and today reminded me why I shouldn't even bother anywhere else. I love, love, love my hair.
