While we were waiting for our table at Truly Pizza, we decided to walk over to Bear Coast Coffee after searching for local coffee shops and getting a recommendation from the owner of The Fairy Garden Bookstore (go support your local bookstores!). There's not much I enjoy more than discovering a great local coffee shop, so I was excited to check this one out. The experience didn't disappoint. The employees were patient with us as first timers and were happy to answer our questions about the menu. I ended up ordering the Iced Lavender Caramel Latte, and it was delicious. It reminded me of one of my favorite local coffee shops back home, which is high praise. I expected it to be on the sweeter side, but it was perfectly balanced. It also wasn't overloaded with ice, so it never reached that watered down stage halfway through the drink. If I'm ever back in Dana Point, I'll gladly stop in for another one. read more

Stopped by today for a coffee and was pretty happy with it all. Bear Coast is located in the corner of the plaza loop, and has a really cool, minimal vibe inside. The staff were really nice too, and prepared everything quickly. I got the Orange Cardamom Latte w/ oat milk, and a Cold Brew w/ Vanilla Foam. The OCL was great, I would totally get that again. The Cold Brew was too acidic unfortunately, and just tasted more like an iced coffee. I'd skip that in the future. I also tried the ham and cheese croissant and the spinach and ham croissant. Both were pretty good, but a little on the oily side. Overall I'd say this was a 3.5/5 experience, but rounding up because service was nice and the OCL was great. Seriously good coffee without the pretentious vibes. When I'm in a different city, I always look up any roasteries, and Bear Coast represents the laidback Dana Point culture well. I had a vanilla latte that was impeccable with housemade vanilla syrup, and I convinced myself to grab a bag of beans, which also came with a free cold brew that had great rich notes of dark chocolate and some ripe fruit. This is a charming little coffeehouse located in Dana Point (they have other locations). While it is small, there is still seating inside and also on the patio. Don't ask me why but they have a bear theme here and there are cute bear decorations here there and everywhere, if you look. I mean, who doesn't like a bear as long as there isn't one coming at you full speed in the woods. The coffee drinks are very nice here but I would note that the flavors are not necessarily as strong as you might expect. The horchata latte was beautiful but just had a hint of horchata flavor. A little more flavor would have been perfect. On the other hand, the iced dark chocolate mocha was fantastic. Apparently, all the syrups/flavorings are made in-house, which I truly appreciate. Bear Coast Coffee Dana Point is a pocket coffee shop right in the popular Del Prado walking area of Dana Point. There's tons of street parking but be prepared to drive around the block to find some. It is located on the ground floor of the new apartment and restaurants complexes built on PCH. Bear Coast is a countertop coffee shop with a very small inside bar seating area and a small outside patio seating area. Be prepared to stand in a decent sized line to order food and care is taken with all food and drink so be prepared to wait a while for each order to be processed. This is not a Starbucks! The quality of the food and drinks are excellent and the prices reflect that - be prepared to pay around $5.50-$6.50 per drink. There is a limited food menu and a small pastries case. I personally had a delicious oatmeal and my boyfriend had a meat and cheese croissant. They were very filling and very tasty. This location is dog friendly. The vibe is incredibly casual, slightly contemporary hipster, and very open air. They do sell merch and it leans into the $20 for a trucker hat or organic tote pad category. Most recently, I had a vanilla nutmeg latte, which was just the right amount of spice and sweet for the holiday season. This isn't going to be my go to coffee shop, but it is definitely going to be one. I will visit when I am in the area. read more

Lately I've noticed quite a bit of coffee shops that lack good quality tasting lattes. Unfortunately BCC is one of them. I ordered a vanilla nutmeg latte that was very watered down, couldn't really taste the coffee beans, and flavor just wasn't there. A good coffee shop should be able to produce lattes where the flavor of syrup and coffee beans are well balanced.
