Avocado Toast

I was in Dana Point for 4 days and each day found myself back here. Their coffee is sooo good and the vibes are so great. I worked from here for two days and came the following two days for a cup and to relax and read outside. My friend and I got food one of the days and it was perfect. The food is fresh and light and delicious. I'll definitely be back if I'm in the area again!

Love a coffee spot that serves an horchata latte! Very good horchata latte and nice location to walk around.

Seriously good coffee without the pretentious vibes. When I'm in a different city, I always look up any roasteries, and Bear Coast represents the laidback Dana Point culture well. I had a vanilla latte that was impeccable with housemade vanilla syrup, and I convinced myself to grab a bag of beans, which also came with a free cold brew that had great rich notes of dark chocolate and some ripe fruit. The folks at the counter were really nice and were happy to engage in a quick conversation about their specialty beans.

Horchata latte was nice but could have been a little more flavorful.

This is a charming little coffeehouse located in Dana Point (they have other locations). While it is small, there is still seating inside and also on the patio. Don't ask me why but they have a bear theme here and there are cute bear decorations here there and everywhere, if you look. I mean, who doesn't like a bear as long as there isn't one coming at you full speed in the woods. The coffee drinks are very nice here but I would note that the flavors are not necessarily as strong as you might expect. The horchata latte was beautiful but just had a hint of horchata flavor. A little more flavor would have been perfect. On the other hand, the iced dark chocolate mocha was fantastic. Apparently, all the syrups/flavorings are made in-house, which I truly appreciate. They have food here, too, and the avocado toast, with red pepper flakes, was very nice. It is a very cute and homey shop with good coffee and good food. Tons of free parking in the lot.

Good coffee. Clean environment. Friendly staff. Decently priced iced latte ($5) Fast service. Can't ask for much more than that.

Bear Coast is a cute spot! Love that they have seasonal flavors, tasted like great quality ingredients. The vanilla nutmeg latte was great, not too sweet. The gingerbread latte had a bready and earthy flavor but not very gingery in my opinion. It's a small inside with limited seating but has some tables outside too. Definitely a good spot to pickup a coffee to go!

Love this spot! Stumbled upon on during the weekend. Was able to find parking on a Sunday in the lot, pretty easily. I was bummed out about the breakfast burritos being sold out but the breakfast sandwich did not disappoint. There's a variety of fresh pastries to choose from and yum healthy dessert balls served. The pistachio croissant was a hit and really liked their ice matcha late. Service was great and food came out super quick. Seating is limited inside and there's a couple of tables available for outdoor seating. They also have cute little corner of gifts to shop through : hats, mugs, beanies etc. Will definitely be coming back for that burrito!

Good place to drop in to grab an iced tea or iced latte. No bathroom inside but there is one outside available with a key. Friendly staff.

Just not too far from the water in Dana Point, Bear Coast Coffee is the kind of spot that makes you wonder why every coffee shop doesn't come with an ocean breeze. Whether you're stopping in for a quick caffeine fix before a heading down to the harbor or settling in for some people-watching, this place delivers on both ambiance and quality. Shop front - https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=O6EBodP3Fgu_n67efSKnBQ&select=6kH8FegyN0mTTm7wJM8uHw I've only been to Bear Coast Coffee DP a few times, but each visit has left a good impression. It's a small, unassuming spot - nothing flashy, just solid coffee done right. The only reason I even discovered this place was through AR, who is particular about her cappuccinos and swears by theirs. (And honestly, she's not wrong - it's tasty.) Front counter - https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=O6EBodP3Fgu_n67efSKnBQ&select=gv_bVi4n9HW5LBcFqWqO_A Bear Coast Coffee DP takes its coffee seriously, and it shows. Their espresso drinks are smooth and well-balanced. On our most recent visit, AR stuck to her usual cappuccino, while I ventured into their Dark Chocolate Mocha, which turned out to be a great choice. Rich, smooth, and just the right amount of sweetness, definitely something I'd order again. Photo - https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=O6EBodP3Fgu_n67efSKnBQ&select=-jLZwHuIvVGkcn-l7MNr5w If you're in the mood for something refreshing, I heard their cold brew is smooth and strong. Another yelp*er mentioned the oat milk latte as another standout - creamy & rich. (Addl $1.25) While coffee is the star here, their food options hold their own. We also tried the Feta Egg Sandwich, and it was surprisingly good. (AR has had it before and really enjoys the sandwich.) Photo - https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=O6EBodP3Fgu_n67efSKnBQ&select=ZUAsbboU4Pky-1SNUOPtVg Casual, beachy, and effortlessly cool. The staff is friendly without being overbearing, and you get the sense that most people here are regulars. Seating can be a bit limited, especially during peak hours, but if you can snag a spot, the view makes it worth it. Menu - https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=O6EBodP3Fgu_n67efSKnBQ&select=eut4FWg3uDnAPuUntTqgHQ Now parking can be a challenge, especially on the weekend and more so if the Farmer's Market is going on. The Dana Point Farmers Market takes place each Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in La Plaza Park, which also happens to be where Bear Coast Coffee DP is located. Our recent visit was on a Sunday, just after 10:30 a.m., and there was plenty of parking available. (Thumbs up.) I'm not a coffee snob by any means, but I appreciate a good cup when I find one. AR, on the other hand, knows what she likes and keeps coming back here when she's in the area. That alone says a lot. If you're particular about your cup of joe and find yourself in Dana Point looking for a solid coffee stop, Bear Coast Coffee DP is worth checking out. Now that's a good cup of coffee! - Big Aloha! We really enjoyed our morning coffee here!! The staff is so sweet and has really good taste! Per recommendation of Garrett, we had the dark chocolate orange cardamom latte and it was Amazing! The notes of cardamon really highlighted the chocolate. Yumm!! We order two extra to take back! He also recommended the pistachio croissant and that was also amazing with pistachio bits on the top and a pistachio cream inside! Perfect morning breakfast! Such a sweet place. We come here often on vacation so this will be our main coffee spot!

Do you serve gluten free breads or pastries?

I don't believe so, they might have one or two options but not a variety.

It made things feel easy and thoughtful without us having to figure it out ourselves. The sirloin was definitely a standout--really well seasoned, flavorful, and served with pesto and potatoes. We also got fries for the table and those disappeared quickly. The bread options (olive bread and sourdough with either olive butter or regular) were a great start too. I tried the French onion burger and while the meat was super tender and clearly good quality, I wasn't a fan of how sweet the onions were--they were very caramelized and kind of took over the flavor for me. The Greek salad we shared was good, just a bit more tomato-heavy than I expected. Drinks were great and everything came out smoothly. Overall, a really pleasant experience with some standout dishes. The birthday dessert at the end was a thoughtful touch!

However, the rest of our meal was 10/10! I got the chicken club, while my friend got the pastrami. Both sandwiches were so delicious and bursting with flavor! I also love that they have zero proof options on the menu. That's always a plus for me. Hunter ended the meal with a complimentary birthday treat and WOW...the chocolate cake was a small slice of pure bliss. I highly recommend it! Lastly, they even have complimentary valet. I will be coming back to Club 19 very soon to try more of the menu!

Food "was" delicious. Pricey, but you're at the Waldorf Astoria... Then I get home. And I had projectile (redacted) all evening from the time I got home, until about 11pm. I couldn't even hold down water. I was so dehydrated, I would chuck water + liquid IV, and 30 minutes later, I would be praying to the porcelain god. TMI, I know, but I just need to get across the severity of this stomach bug. The only other thing I ate this day was a bag of sour cream and onion chips my friend got on the course with his hotdog. So that leaves this. I know this is not common here, but I had to be honest with my experience. Other people got burgers and they were fine, so it's hard to pinpoint what exactly it was. I did have a side of Mayo. So maybe? It's now Monday night and my fever has dropped from 101.8 to 99.1. Overall it's hard to say I would ever come back considering the price to food... I've had two separate experiences at Raya this year, and both were unacceptable -- which is…read moredisappointing because the rest of the property has consistently been excellent. Kahani, the club lounge, and the Marketplace all delivered exactly what you expect from a hotel at this level: attentive, well-trained staff, seamless service, and a clear understanding of hospitality standards. That's why I've never focused on smaller issues before -- they didn't outweigh the overall quality of the stay. Unfortunately, Raya has now been the exception twice. The first time, back in January, the food quality wasn't on point-I ordered the blackened tuna tacos and they were completely inedible. I didn't complain or send them back -- I simply left it at that. Today was service from one particular server Taylor. I had just come down from the club lounge and remembered that I had a complimentary voucher given at check-in, which didn't specify what it covered on it. I first asked at the lobby bar and no one was able to provide a clear answer, so I went next door to Raya and asked again before ordering. The hostess told me I could choose anything and even recommended the skirt steak. She was kind and friendly. Taylor took my order, and I reasonably assumed there had been communication between staff. So I spent some time ordering and waiting and when my food arrived since I asked for a to go order, I grabbed the bag, tipped, and left. Then Taylor ran after me at the hotel entrance asking how I planned to pay -- in front of other guests. It was an extremely uncomfortable and bizarre situation. I didn't realize what has happened I was just handed the bill and I put my room number and name down. I was then told the voucher only covered guacamole, which directly contradicted what I had been told prior to ordering. As a result, I wasted approximately 40 minutes of my time, I was simply trying to head to the beach before departing, and instead found myself dealing with a situation that should have been handled internally and discreetly. When I handed the food back and said I did not want it, the response was "ok, I'll toss it," followed by no acknowledgment, no apology, and no effort to resolve the situation. At this point, this is no longer an isolated incident. For a restaurant positioned as fine dining, the lack of internal communication, consistency, and basic guest handling is surprising -- especially when every other outlet on the property demonstrates a significantly higher standard. Raya was the only part of the experience that felt misaligned with the rest of the hotel -- and unfortunately, it's the last impression I'm leaving with.
