The place has a lively atmosphere that teenagers would enjoy a lot, and I saw so many teenagers there that day. They were taking pictures by the water, laughing together, and fitting into the environment so naturally that it made the whole restaurant feel even more vibrant. The marina view looked almost like a postcard, and teenagers especially seemed to love taking photos with the boats in the background, which made the place feel even more fun and creative. It was my first time visiting Proud Mary's, and I did not realize how much there was to enjoy until I walked around and took in the whole scene. I really appreciated how easy it was to have a good time there without feeling rushed. The staff kept everything moving smoothly, and the upbeat energy made the experience feel even better than I expected. I never doubted that the visit would turn out the way I hoped it would, and it honestly ended up being one of the most refreshing places I have been to in a long time. I have only visited Proud Mary's one time in my life before making this review, but it left a strong impression on me. Food was not good. We originally went there for brunch but they still serving at 12, so we were stuck with the lunch menu. The clam chowder was horrible. Tasted like bad flour gravy with little to no potatoes or clams. Don't order this. My Cesar salad came with chicken, anchovies, croutons, and like 4 cherry tomatoes. The anchovies were whole and there were 3. I like that they asked if I wanted them (I did) but I wish they were chopped up instead of whole. The cheese on the salad was hard like it had been sitting out and the chicken seemed like it was some cheap breast defrosted. They could have grilled the chicken, had fresh black pepper to make it a lot better. The French fries on my son's plate were honestly sad looking. Cold and soggy. My husband ordered fish tacos and chili and admitted he's had better meals in his life. We drove pretty far to try this place and honestly wish we went next door for better food. Service was ok, our soups came out before we got our drinks, which I didn't like. The food is super overpriced for the quality. The best part was the view.... Hence the second star. I was very excited to come here as the place was busy with people. Not sure if we ordered the wrong thing, but food was below par. Always like to meet up with friends here to catch up on our lives and travel. Today I decided to order something different instead of my " go to" salad. I ordered the tuna salad and avocado sandwich on squaw bread and a side salad. I liked how they filled it with lots of tuna salad and sprouts. The big down side for me was the bread, it was so stale it fell apart after taking a bite. What makes a great sandwich is the bread quality and unfortunately the bread missed the mark. Had the lunch menu as the breakfast menu ends at noon. I ordered a Bloody Mary and the Steak Burrito. Both were excellent and I ended up taking half the burrito home. Service was quick and the wait wasn't bad as we had a party of 5. The restaurant is located in Dana Point Harbor therefore there were a lot of boats moving all around. 5/26/2025 Went for a lovely stroll along the harbor and ended up at Proud Mary's for breakfast. We were greeted by the owner who was doing his dog barking impersonating and he was quite good. Sounded like a small retriever. We were seated at a nice table for two. Valerie was our amazing server and was attentive and kind. The other helpers were all efficient and friendly as well. My wife had the vegetable omelet and I had the chili omelet. Both dishes were great. The coffee and OJ was good as well. This place is popular with an upbeat ambiance and terrific location. Got curious on how to get to Catalina Island on my day off and chose to check out Dana Point to catch the Catalina express. I wanted to find out how to catch a ride without online reservation and where to park. I happened to ask the bartender where I could physically get tickets. We met on a foggy Friday morning. Because of construction, one of us did walk a distance. Just keep driving forward and you will be able to park in the lot shared by four restaurants. I had the delicious Doheny omelette. Gorgeous to see and eat. I'm going to cook it like they do. The raw spinach leaves are laid in the mostly set egg (which gently cooks them). It's filled with mushrooms , cheese, and bacon. One of my friends has special requests. (We all have that one person). All of which were honored readily and graciously. Our go to breakfast place when camping at Doheny. When we walked in from day one, we're always greeted and made to feel welcomed. Right on the harbor boardwalk, we enjoy sitting outside to watch the boats. The food is nothing less than perfect! Great hollandaise on my eggs Benedict, tender flavorful ham and fabulous home fries. I'm always torn as to what to get every time I come! Always love the lunch burrito with steak or shrimp, burger is good, but went with the tuna melt again. I cannot resist it! We ordered cinnamon French toast and avocado bacon omelette. The French toast is OK. The egg of the omelette was dry and the bacon hard. There was sour cream in the omelette which did not blend with the overall flavor which was bland. I was disappointed. But the coffee was good and the service was great. If you can make it past the less than kind hostess...it's fabulous There was a line out the door. My party patiently waited...several times the hostess mentioned to other parties arriving after us (or returning) about their "names on a list". When we tried to enquire about getting our name on said list she waived us off and asked us to stand in line (which we did, even tho I was confused). Then yet another party asked quite shortly after about getting on the list and she started to add them - while we were standing right next to them. We asked again if we could get on the list (stating we had been waiting prior to the larger partys arrival) and she showed us the list but refused to take our name yet again. Then a few minutes later after her mentioning there was only 1 table big enough for the party that arrived after us anyway, we finally were somehow deemed acceptable to be on her list - for a 35 minute wait minimum. The larger party, (hearing and commenting to us about her rudeness) decided to go elsewhere as discussed several other parties that had been on the list ahead of us. The wait was much shorter than expected, yay. Our server, Beck was amazing, attentive and very kind. The food was fabulous.
