We were looking for a little breakfast snack and some coffee so we stopped at Plilz Coffee right on PCH. It has comfortable seating inside and some seating outside too. Our barista was really nice and friendly. We had a Mocha Tesora that had dark chocolate, caramel and cocoa - it was bit sweet but good (4/5) and the Caramel Coconut Cold Brew (5/5) - made you want to be in Hawaii. For a snack, we had the Turkey Sausage and Egg Sandwich - this is just a reheated sandwich like you would get from a Starbucks - 2/5. It was cheesy and had some hard spots from the reheating. They used to sell avocado toast, which was good, but this is clearly not a breakfast spot anymore. The food all looked corporate like at Starbucks so if that is what you like then you will like this too. We will come back for more great coffee but pass on the food. read more

Absolutely love this location! It's super close to my job, so it's become my go-to spot. Parking is always easy (huge plus). They nail my drink right the first time, every time -but I also appreciate that they always remind me they'll remake it if I'm not happy. The space itself is big, open, and really comfortable, with plenty of outlets if you want to get work done or study. Definitely one of the best coffee spots in Dana Point! Wonderful staff of young hard workers. Very friendly. One worker helped me pick out a delicious honey drizzled coffee and she gave all the reasons to choose it. I really appreciate a knowledgeable staff. Coffee prices are what you would expect, about $6 a medium specialty drink. There is minimal 2 hour parking around the back. Ambience...There are desks for plugging in your tech and getting some work done. Their is also a kids style area with books and crayons in a room which is away from the front entry doors. I love Philz Kouign Amann! It's my ultimate fav (thanks bff for introducing me to something I can't find anywhere else!!). THIS PHILZ GOT IT! we visit our grandparents nearby so I'm happy to learn it's here. My old spot used to be up in the Bay Area so I'm a long way from my favorite Kouign Amann until thisssss place! The workers are very nice and patient, if your drink isn't to your liking they will try and fix it! They are so helpful with recommendations in case you can't decide on two drinks and would rather not buy two drinks lol The location is great, right on the corner and walking distance from grandma's! First time at Philz. I was impressed by many things! This location is very spacious with tons of places to work. They have long tables, benches, couches. The vibe is somewhat urban and loungy and I love that. Also, they have some fantastic art as well as community boards with different businesses and events advertised. This little coffee shop just opened. I had never been to a Philz However , it is quite different than any coffee shop. I think that you will ever go to the level of quality of coffee is absolutely outstanding. The service was good . The complicated way you order your coffee is just not for me. Stopped here for a quick coffee before heading to the beach but it wasn't as quick as we expected. There were a lot of people here for a Sunday morning! I think next time we'd try ordering ahead on the app. We ordered the Gingersnap, Blueberry Breeze (a seasonal item), and the three cheese egg bites. The egg bites definitely give Starbucks a run for its money, very tasty. The Blueberry Breeze was quite refreshing! A little too sweet but that's okay. The Gingersnap was also delicious, such a throwback. Not in Dana Point often but this is a great spot for coffee if you are. read more

I would give it 5 stars but for a few things. I've been in here 2x now in the past month for a visit. The coffee is definitely really, really good, some of my favorite. I was not that impressed with one of the specialty beverages, but it wasn't bad-just a good way to spoil what could be an even better cup of coffee. On my most recent visit, first they lost the ticket, causing an unusually longer than normal wait. Then, when the manager or whoever it was apologized very politely, another employee remade the drink in a larger size than we asked for and iced, when I had asked for hot. So she had to remake it again hot. She gave us both drinks I guess as an appeasement for the error and extended wait time. I know it's busy and kind of hard in a place like this, but I would have preferred to have the beverage comped instead of being charged for it and another beverage which we were not going to be able to drink added. Or she could have given me a $5 gift card for the error-something like that. I just don't think getting an extra beverage and a larger size is the best way to go. I also noticed they say no dogs on the door, so the first time I went I waited outside while my friend went in and ordered for us both. Then, on that occasion and on today's visit, I see people walking in with multiple dogs and no one says anything. So which is it? These were obviously not service dogs. Please, enforce the rules or allow dogs. And now I see on Yelp it says dogs allowed. I'm so confused! I think she's the manager, there's a very petite, young lady who on the first visit offered my dog a treat as we were waiting outside, and then she was the same one who apologized to me for the drink mistake. She seems to be on top of things and attentive whenever needed. Kudos to her! I will go back, just hoping they will fine tune their operation a bit more and make the doggie rules fair for everyone. read more

I've been looking forward to this location opening and have already been 3 times since they opened, including being their first mobile order. I used to go here all of the time when I lived in the Bay Area so there's a nostalgia element for me. Anyway, ff you've never been to Philz before the thing that makes them a little bit unique is that each coffee is a pour over and they mix in sugar and cream to your liking. If you want one of their specialties, get the mint mojito. At this location the coffee is tasty as expected, staff are super nice, and the location is really nice - lots of comfortable seating + a cool little nook to hang out in. Admittedly, I was a skeptic about this place. $4.90 for a cup of coffee is a lot but I thought I would give it a try. After all, there are very good coffee shops in Dana Point yet this place was crowded. For the $4.90 for a 12 oz coffee you can get oat or almond milk added without extra cost. Nice. And the coffee was really first rate: I got an Ether, which had notes of molasses, dark chocolate and dried cherry. It was a first rate cup of coffee. I had some work to do and the common table was a nice place to do work. The music was pleasant and soothing and not too loud. The decor was nice, nothing too special but nice --- not funky or rustic. The staff were all very pleasant. And the people spending time here --- having a coffee, reading, working, etc. --- were all contributing to a good vibe. While I won't give up on my other favorite coffee shops in Dana Point I will add Philz to my list. read more

We ordered two pastries and two coffees. It was not very busy. Ordered at 8:20 AM and pastry came out quickly. 20 mins go by and we see the people who came in after us and ordered after us got their drinks before we did. Finally we said something and they claimed it was "busy" and magically our "drinks" were next in the que. We finally got our 2 coffee at 8:43AM. They did apologize but it was more of an annoyance/ not sincere for them having to say sorry because they were "busy". We did have them reheat the pastries. They did offer a free pastry for the wait. Not too impressed as each time we have been here we run into an issue like this and gave the store the benefit of the doubt due to being new and learning curve. We've visited and loved Philz in the Bay Area for many years so we were pretty excited that a Philz was coming to our town! We came for breakfast shortly after it opened. Of course the mint mojito was the first thing I ordered and my husband got some of their top flight coffee. We were, however, disappointed that this location did not offer more food options. The Philz we visited in the Bay had breakfast sandwiches, bagels, egg bites, and other savory food besides pastries. Needless to say, we got breakfast elsewhere, but the coffee was, as usual, heavenly. I hope they are able to add more food items soon! read more

We tried the new Winter Bliss Cold Brew and the Spiced Gratitude Cold Brew. Both were absolutely delicious and we can't wait to order them again.
