They also have food but this girl just wanted her coffee:) It's not very big inside but they have a few tables and several out front. The view is lovely over here! A recent Yelp Elite Event was held in Carlsbad. I joined other Elites in the trip to San Diego County. We stayed in a hotel and had coffee the next morning in the beautiful City of San Clemente. I enjoy going to the pier and grabbing a drink at Bear Coast Coffee Cafe. It's in a prime location and very popular. My friend, Te-see, treated me to a Vanilla Latte with Oat Milk. It was perfect with a nice mild flavor. The menu includes Americano, Espresso, Cappuccino, Chai Tea, Lemonade, Matcha drinks, and breakfast sandwiches & burritos. Also, I ordered a drip in a cold cup of ice & was told I couldn't have it, that I had to order a cold brew- but that's a different brewing process & I didn't want that; I just wanted hot brewed coffee poured into a cold cup of ice, which really shouldn't be hard to understand. Spotted this coffee shop on our early morning walk to the pier. Very clean minimalist atmosphere inside and staff are sweet, friendly and know the locals (they recognized a few families ahead of me in line). Their menu is not extensive, but they do offer seasonal drink flavors. There is a small pastry case in front next to the cashier as well as food menu. We tried the Vanilla Nutmeg Latte (highly recommend), Horchata Latte and Americano iced versions. Coffee was smooth and well balanced. The Americano was strong but not bitter. We had just finished lunch but I really needed a caffeine fix. I saw Bear Coast earlier and since we were walking past, why not stop in! It's a great little shop that has a lot of seating! Friendly workers and greeting! I ordered a horchata latte which had a great flavor with a touch of cinnamon. Some places, the flavor can be overpowering, and you can't taste the coffee. I had questions on the menu and the barista (male with orange hair; I believe his name is Joshua according to my receipt) seemed very annoyed and answered my questions with sarcasm & one word. When redeeming my free drink, he punched it in for the regular small coffee and said it has to be for the cheapest item. I asked to make the regular coffee a specialty coffee in that case, and he literally rolled his eyes. A bit of a different review, although the coffee was amazing! My wife and I spent the morning of our wedding together and decided to get coffee at Bear Coast. When we arrived, we mentioned to the barista that we were celebrating our wedding day, and with thunderous applause and excitement, she not only gave us her best wishes, but also surprised us with a wedding day discount! It was okay to me, coffee itself was good, but I didn't feel like the vanilla or nutmeg were potent enough for me to taste. Maybe it's supposed to be more subtle, but I was looking for more of those flavors in the drink. They have such lovely baristas even early in the morning that I enjoy chatting with. You can tell they have regulars and I hope to become one myself! Great location - can see the beach and people watch - and friendly staff but the coffee was entirely forgettable. There's some seating outside (a big plus!) and they do have a bathroom on site for customers so you can avoid the beach public restrooms.
