I ordered a 12 oz iced black raspberry matcha latte. The menu states that the drink is 12 oz. When the drink came out, I looked at the cup and asked, "Is this a 12 ounce cup?" To which the gentleman behind the counter replied, "Yes, I didn't believe it either until I poured a 12 ounce can of soda into the cup." Still skeptical, I took the cup home, emptied out the ice, and measured it using my Pyrex measuring cup. 10 ounces filled it to the brim. It is a 10 ounce cup. I am greatly disappointed that when I asked about the size of the cup, the gentleman flat out lied to me. I find it hard to believe that when he tested the volume of the cup he didn't notice that 2 oz of his soda overflowed from the cup. The Picnic Cafe--please change your menu to reflect that you are selling 10 oz drinks, or change your prices to reflect that you are serving a smaller size. It is disrespectful and dishonest to continue doing business this way. read more

I always like to focus on the positives first! This place is adorable. I had the Turkey sandwich and a lavender matcha and the matcha was one of the best I've had. The kids meals were adorable and my kids loved them! This would totally be a 5 star review except the service was HORRIBLE. We were here at 11am on Wednesday April 8th we stood for 10 minutes before the girl working even came over to take our order there was no acknowledgment or just a second or any kind of greeting ... no one else was in the shop except us so it just seemed very odd to me. When the girl working finally came over to take our order she just said "what do want to order" with a sigh no eye contact it just felt like we were irritating her. She then proceeded to tell my mom what she wanted to order was going to take awhile to make and so my mom just canceled her food order all together. I saw a family of 4 leave after not being acknowledged and that is money that I'm sure this new business needs. My daughters begged me to get some gelato and though I was very reluctant to try and order I went back in because it's spring break and who doesn't like gelato. I waited for 7 minutes and the girl just washed dishes said nothing to us so I had to carry my crying children out of the store with no gelato. Again just a loss of sales. I loved the concept of this business and I really did enjoy what we ordered. I hope this is just a one person issue or maybe a bad day but I would strongly encourage the business to take some time for some additional customer service training with this particular staff member. read more

Cutest place ever and the staff is so nice! There are so many great gift items. I bought cards I love but my favorite things are the coffee and the sandwiches! My very favorite sandwich is the Turkey Apple Brie (DELICIOUS) and the Fin bagel but you can't go wrong. The Logan's Catch And Italian Summer sandwiches are great too. I was searching for coffee shops to try while I am in San Clemente and was super excited to try this place. I opted for the flowers & cup combo which is supposed to come with a mini bouquet and a 16 ounce coffee for $14. I was surprised when the staff asked me if I wanted a 12 ounce as I'm trying to get the bang for my buck! I ordered an iced salted honey latte and they gave me hot. And had I known they were going to give me 3 roses I would have just gotten the coffee by itself. I'm also not sure what salted honey is supposed to taste like but it tasted like a regular latte. It's a cute little place but I just left disappointed that's all. But don't get me wrong, the staff were friendly. I think I was just more sad about the 3 roses. The cutest cafe nestled right on Del Mar!!! We stopped here this weekend after noticing how cute the aesthetic was. It's small inside but easy to walk up and order. There are 4 or 5 small tables outside so we found a seat pretty easily. The menu isn't huge but they have yummy sandwich, salad and charcuterie options. We got a latte too. The best was the kids menu. They have a pb & j (cut into a star), a turkey sandwich, banana Nutella toast and a kids charcuterie board. My kids loved the options!! We ordered 3 to share and they thought it was so fun. They came packaged in a cute box with a juice, fruit and a little bubble stick. The kids said it was their best lunch ever. The person taking our order was really nice and made a point to ask how everything tasted. He even gave the kids a cookie to try. Really fun experience and good food. The real star of this restaurant is its location, right on Avenida Del Mar, and its ambiance, with tables and chairs right on Avenida Del Mar. It's a beautiful spot to sit, eat and people watch. The inside of the restaurant is charming looking and has a light, breezy feel to it. The woman who served us at the counter was very nice and the friendly owner came out to check on how we're doing, which I appreciated. My wife and I split a Turkey Apple Brie sandwich. It was very good --- but I think it could have been better. The ingredients were high quality and fresh, and the sandwich was put together nicely, but the quantity of food was a bit lacking. I have mixed feelings about this place ! I don't like to bash newer local businesses because I know it's not easy to have a successful business , so I just want to give a few suggestions! I will start with what I liked- The guy working the counter was friendly and nice. I love that they offered half sizes of things (not many places do this ) Here are my suggestions : -For the kids charcuterie box, please cut the grapes ! Since this box is for kids and grapes are one of the biggest choking hazards, please cut these. The strawberries were cut in half already so it would be one extra step so parents don't have to cut them all themselves (like I had to do). The box was also missing the salami that is listed on the menu for this box. -for the bagels, the toppings are delicious but the actual bagel tastes old/taste like a bagel from a shelf at the grocery store. Having fresh bagels would really elevate it! -for the strawberry matcha-it needs more strawberry flavor . Beautiful presentation but flavor is lacking. I think adding a muddled strawberry syrup or jam to the drink would make it delicious. The store itself is very aesthetic! I think with a few tweaks this place could be a new favorite of mine (and other locals) ! read more

Parking: since it's in downtown San Clemente, it's mostly street parking. There are some public parking lots nearby, but it can be a short walk. It's definitely a nice area to walk and browse. Service: my visit was alright, the cashier was neither friendly nor unfriendly. I ordered my drink and it was quickly made. Ambiance: the cafe itself was very decorative and beautiful. Loved the pink + green aesthetic. No table seating, but there was a bench inside to wait for drinks/food. There were a couple 2-seater coffee tables outside for use. Drink: strawberry matcha latte 6/10- it was alright, not bad. Matcha was definitely on the more grassy side (for those who enjoy that flavor). Strawberry flavor was decent, but probably not my favorite. It was also $7.95 with milk sub, which was definitely on the pricier side. read more

Really great spot for a yummy breakfast! My husband and I loved the blue coconut smoothie and enjoyed a lox bagel and sandwich. The cafe is super cute and has nice outdoor sitting. I did notice that they had charcuterie boards on their menu which seemed enticing, so maybe next time we'll try that. I really want to like this place. It's very cute and a great concept. I do like the charcuterie boxes, but they barely give you any meat. Same with their salads. $20 for a salad with added chicken and it's maybe 2oz of chicken. The avocado on my salad was inedible because it's was so unripe and hard. I honestly can't believe they even served that to me. Their drinks are so sweet that I can't taste the espresso or the matcha, even when I get half sweet. Some of their drink syrups have artificial colors which sucks. I wish they had gluten-free bread so I could try their sandwiches. This place is a SCAM. They make it look so cute on all the social media sites but it is tiny. Very limited seating. They took forever to get my online order together. I came last week and was greeted by two wonderful young ladies. My coffee was good & even cared to asked me how I like my coffee I.e. sweet / bitter.. super friendly. I went for a coffee today and decided to get their tiramisu latte. Coffee was actually awful. Older blonde guy was awful at customer service almost seemed like he didn't care to greet my friend and I when we walked in. I asked for a small latte and he decides to fill the cup all the way proceeds to tell me to take a sip out of it before putting the lid on. Like how about you just don't fill it all the way. I try to do that and spills on my boots. The place is beautiful his vibe wasn't. I hope to come again and give it another try. read more

We drove all the way from anaheim hills to try this place out and it did not disappoint! The location is absolutely wonderful & the coffee is even better! We had the BEST cashier, Sophie, who shared with us her favorite drinks. She was able to customize my drink for me (maple sea salt-YUM) & was so so nice and welcoming while doing so! New San Clemente gem! First off, the inside is beautifully decorated & stylish. Love the pink tile + all the other cool details. The charcuterie boards are very delicious. Everything was super fresh, high-quality, and beautifully presented. They also sell some really cool items like cookbooks, unique gifts, and kitchen goodies. Prices are totally fair for the quality / quantity you get, and the staff and ownership are genuinely kind and welcoming. We ended up just eating our board on the patio but next time are taking it to go and headed to the beach for a charcuterie date night picnic at the beach.
