I was going to walk past West Toast Cafe because I figured they would have the usual hamburgers, hot dogs and fries. I'm glad my husband suggested checking out the menu. I was surprised to find that in addition to burgers, they had breakfast bagels and breakfast burritos, avocado toast, açaí bowls and Venezuelan arepas - a stuffed cornmeal patty. They use organic, locally-sourced ingredients and are plastic-free, using 100% biodegradable products. The breakfast burrito ($14.99) had organic eggs, bacon, hash browns and cheese and came with a side of salsa and guasacaca sauce (avocado, cilantro and bell pepper). It's on the smaller side and not one of those gut busting breakfast burritos. I tried The Queen arepa ($14), which was stuffed with a mixture of chicken, avocado, onions and cheese. They also have one with tuna and a vegetarian one with black beans. The ingredients were all fresh and it was a refreshing change from the normal beach food. Food is probably closer to four stars, but I'm giving West Toast five stars since food of this quality is totally unexpected for the location. They have several tables where you can sit and enjoy the lovely view. read more

I have to assume that this is a locals secret BECAUSE WHY DID NO ONE TELL ME. West Toast Cafe is my newest obsession. This coffee shop has the best beach cafe vibes in Southern California and sits directly on the sand. They specialize in caffeinated goods, smoothies, acai bowls and Venezuelan food. Since we hung out for a bit, I had a chance to sample a large majority of their menu, including: the green juice, acai bowl, the Queen Arepa, and the vanilla latte. No menu items were found lacking! Personally, I adored the acai bowl. This was made with all the freshest ingredients and their coconut/agave pairing was to-die-for. The seating is absolute perfection. There's a number of picnic tables under a shaded awning covered with pink bougainvillea. A cuter venue does no exist. Parking can be difficult depending on the day/time period. There's a number of metered spots available if you're lucky enough to snag one. Heads up though, this spot is not handicap accessible. read more

This is a MUST try when visiting San Clemente. The food is delicious and the vibes are perfect literally on the sand on the beach trail, just south of the San Clemente Pier. The staff is always friendly and helpful with food options. My personal favorite is the avocado toast with tomatoes, pickled onions and herbs (I add a fried egg for extra protein). Breakfast with a view, heck yeah! We had a party of 12 adults plus 4 small kids. Patience is key here if you visit WTC on a weekend. Order your food and enjoy the view while you wait for space to sit. There are 5 large tables. We had various items and each one was fresh and tasty. This cute little cafe on the beach is exactly what you need for your beach day or even just a walk on the beach like I took. They have a few tables to eat at or a standing kind of bar that folds up and down. They have quite the selection on the menu but it was after my walk in the morning so I went with a bagel sandwich. It was almost $17 total for just the sandwich. It was good bacon, egg, cheese and avocado on an everything bagel, but you are paying for the great views! Super convenient since it's right by the beach. Tried the El Mariachi burger and club sandwich. Both were good and satisfying, though I found the burger to be a bit too greasy for my taste. Still, a solid spot for a quick breakfast, lunch, or beachside bite. read more

Mixed feelings: Yummy food and great location! However, they do have small portions for how expensive it is. We each got a mini burrito and coffee. The burrito is on a tiny plate. We ordered the regular sized coffee drinks but they both looked like the extra small kids size cups from Starbucks. Wish I took a photo! I get it, food prices are crazy right now! But I got 2 breakfast burritos and 2 coffee drinks, it came out to $50. The burritos were $18 each and a whopping $7 for a teeny tiny mini iced mocha (which wasn't the greatest). Steep prices for a walk-up beach hut in my opinion. Staff members are 50/50. The cashier was very friendly but the barista was pretty rude. I asked for a water cup and she refused to give me one because the ice machine was broken? I even asked for hot water but she said no and bluntly told me I had to buy a water bottle. The strange thing was, I ordered an ice coffee which came out a few minutes later and she tried very hard to ignore my gaze while I grabbed it. Kinda bummed they wouldn't accommodate a free water cup, after paying $50 and giving the staff a generous tip. The burritos (and whatever the green sauce is) was really tasty at least, which made up for it a little. Aside from that, it's a beautiful location! Love love love! If you are looking for breakfast right on the beach, you found the right spot. We went on Christmas Eve and everyone was so friendly. The service was quick and the food was amazing. They have burritos, açaí bowls, waffles, all the breakfast essentials. They also have a full coffee bar. Seating is all outside so make sure to go when it's decent weather. Cute little coffee shop/cafe on the beach. I like that they have Venezuelan food on their menu, which is often hard to find in my experience. I ended up getting a large coffee and some tequenos. I guess you're supposed to ask for cream and sugar or sugar substitute when you order.. I had asked for sugar later and they didn't have any. When I asked for creamer, they handed me a carton of half and half, but the cup was filled to the brim so I couldn't put much in. The tequenos were delicious, but they only give you 4 midget sized tequenos and a small amount of guasacaca sauce for the 8.99 price you pay. Service was friendly and decent. I am giving 5 stars for the "experience" . Seeing San Clemente was on the to-do list while staying in San Diego and after seeing West Toast Cafe, I thought we needed to add breakfast there to the itinerary. While prices are a little on the high-side, it's the location and view that make it worth it. Poor food service delivery guy had to step by step it with the dolly down all those stairs, so remember that while soaking in the sun, watching the waves and feeling the breeze as the Surfliner cruises by. I had an iced coffee and burrito, I personally like shredded hashbrowns in a breakfast burrito, and was happy to see that is what they used. If you do experience it for yourself and don't need the whole table, slide down and let another party join you. They have 4 tables that probably would sit up to 8 people and a bench by where you pick up your food that could hold maybe 6 people. The waffle and Açaí bowls looked good. West Toast catered my birthday party and everything was fabulous! There was a long table set up for the food with two beautiful umbrellas and also a big tent with a small table was set up with a very Moroccan feel. All of the food was delicious high-end, organic and freshly prepared. The arepas (a special Venezuelan corn cake sandwich) were so delectable, crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside, filled with cheese and shredded chicken and a green spicy salsa on the side, so delicious! We also had the burgers made with Wagygu (so juicy and delicious), the acai bowls, Nutella toast, avocado toast with and without smoked salmon and octopus ceviche. Everything was amazing. Stopped by here while walking on the beach and it's the cutest cafe I've seen on any beach! By the time I came they were all out of cold brew but they offered to make an iced americano which turned out great. They have a few tables to eat your food and drink your coffee while listening to the waves in front of you. It's so peaceful and they have music that fits the ambiance so well! Covered seating at side of restaurant puts you on the beach to enjoy a snack and watch the surfers at the same time. Kid friendly. This place is in an amazing location. It's right on the beach in San Clemente. But BEWARE of the parking police. You have to pay a meter on an app. It was very confusing to figure this out. In fact, both my friend and I got a parking ticket that day (along with probably 10 others.) Besides this, it's a great cafe serving Panther coffee (roastery from Florida which I have been to)...they also have acai bowls, breakfast sandwiches, toasts, juices, and many other treats and foods. My friend and I had a lovely breakfast with a stunning beach view (park, walk down the hill, plant yourself on the beach, enjoy! Do be aware that you are paying for the lovely views. I think it cost close to $18 for a breakfast sandwich and a coffee. But, I get it. It's a great little spot! read more
