On Thursday June 5th 2025, Rocco's played host to our celebration of our oldest daughter's graduation from San Clemente High School. The staff and management took a collaborative approach to creating a customized menu that met the diverse needs of our guests, both adults and children, within a reasonable budget. As one of the larger groups, with 30 in attendance, we appreciated the layout of the restaurant, which afforded us a sense of privacy, as well as the attentive service provided by the staff. Additionally, the generous food portions ensured that there were plenty of leftovers despite our guests' healthy appetites. We would like to thank the owner, Lorena , Heather and all the staff for helping make this a remarkable night that we will always remember.

Our favorite place to go for date night or company dinners. The food is amazing, and the atmosphere and service delightful!

    Stuffed artichoke

Rocco's in San Clemente is where carbs and happiness collide with a great, welcoming vibe! We kicked things off with warm, lightly grilled bread and marinara so good it should come with a warning label. The Caesar salad was crunchy, fresh, and dressed to impress. But the risotto? Total showstopper -- mushrooms, sundried tomatoes, asparagus, and the moistest chicken I've had in forever. The light, flavorful sauce tied it all together like a chef's kiss. The stuffed artichoke with goat cheese? A fun surprise -- rich, tangy, and totally worth trying. And Cesar, our server, was a rockstar: friendly, full of great recs, and checked in just the right amount. Highly recommend. Bring your appetite and maybe stretchy pants.

We tried the pork and the chicken arepas. He packed it with so much tender meat and sauce and the bread was so soft. A lot of flavor and served piping hot. It is a little messy to eat, but no biggie. I loved the plantain inside. Alan's customer service was so friendly and it was a pleasure talking to him.

The interior had barely any soft, pillowy spots. The arepa is huge though and they do give you the works. It was $10 for my shredded chicken arepa with $1 extra for avocado. The very sweet woman manning the stall at Duck Foot Brewing filled it with kidney beans, shredded cheese and some plantains in addition to the protein and avo. The chicken was marinated some and it was tasty. Still, I had just come back from Miami and was itching for an arepa fix which I did not find here. One would normally find this stall at the Mira Mesa Farmers Market on Tuesday as they don't have a brick and mortar. At the time, their stall schedule also included a visit to Duck Foot in Miramar on Friday's. They didn't have a physical menu during my visit and I was told verbally that they only had shredded chicken and beef but maybe they have more options when they are at the MM farmers market.

Service was friendly but this particular night there was only one server for the entire restaurant so we had to wait a while to get our order taken plus we were never checked on so we had to wait a while to ask for water later and a really long time before we got our checks. The interior is colorful with faux windows on the wall and nice "Colombia" letters above the register. The menu is extensive though prices NOT listed on the paper menus. Food is slightly on the more expensive side but portions are decent in return. We ordered empanadas, jugo de lulo, aguapanela con limón, mondongo, and bistec a caballo. I also sampled some of their arepa con queso, bandeja paisa, and picada dishes that our friends ordered. Unfortunately, the restaurant was out of many drinks and also sold out of desserts. The mondongo was excellent and piping hot, but I am a big fan of tripe; it was served with rice and shredded cabbage. The bistec a caballo came as a large piece of steak and was bathed in a flavorful sauce and came with rice, a cup of beans, and a fried egg. The drinks and empanadas were also tasty. Overall, it was an excellent meal other than slightly subpar service on this visit. I would love to return on Fridays for their ajiaco, and Sundays for their sancocho!

As a Colombian who has been craving authentic Colombian cuisine since my last visit to New York in…read moreDecember, I can confidently say this restaurant truly satisfied those cravings. Being nearly eight months pregnant, my expectations were especially high, and it is rare to find a place that meets them so well. From the seasoning of the food to the warm and attentive service, everything about this restaurant stands out. Although I don't recall my server's name, he was incredibly kind and provided excellent service throughout. The ambiance is also worth noting--the space is large, offers plenty of seating options, and even features a large TV, making it a great spot to relax or watch sports. To start, I ordered a watered mango juice along with a beef empanada. The empanada exceeded my expectations--despite being on the smaller side, it was packed with flavor. I enjoyed it so much that I ordered five more to go, which speaks for itself. They were served with fresh ají, a traditional sauce that complemented them perfectly. For my main course, I had the carne asada plate, which included steak, rice, beans, sweet plantains, avocado, tomato slices, and a small arepa. Every component of the dish was well-executed--the beans were flavorful, the meat was well-seasoned, and the overall plate felt authentic. It is often difficult to find truly authentic Colombian food, especially in San Diego, where options are limited or not genuinely Colombian. This restaurant, however, delivers on authenticity and flavor. The portion size was generous, and I ended up taking leftovers home to enjoy later. In addition to the empanadas (two chicken and three beef), I also ordered a buñuelo and a cheese arepa to go. Unfortunately, these items did not meet the same standard. The arepa lacked flavor and was overly greasy, and the buñuelo was dry and similarly oily, even after absorbing excess grease from the bag. Overall, I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for Colombian food, especially given how rare it is to find quality options in this area. Friends of mine visited recently as well and thoroughly enjoyed their bandeja paisa, further confirming the consistency of the food. I will definitely be returning--especially for those empanadas.
