Side of bacon and a freshly made espresso, woohoo! Everything was freshly made to order. Never disappointed in anything we order here. Service is always accommodating. Service was immediate, we were greeted and seated once we walked up on a Sunday afternoon. We sat on the patio cause it was a warm day and inside was too toasty for us. I see the ratings on this place and I wonder why? We ordered two steak plates; one Steak and eggs cooked rare and another steak and frites cooked medium. They were both terrible. Chewy and cooked wrong. The medium was cook rare and the rare one was goey. No flavor at all. I instantly regretted picking this location for brunch. I bagged up the steaks for my dog and headed out disappointed. For 62$ I wish I could say I was full and satisfied but I'm unfortunately not. Just lacking overall in taste. The breakfast potatoes tasted like free potatoes from a motel breakfast and the side salad with the steak frites just had a red vinaigrette dressing on Roman lettuce, no character at all. If you just want mimosas I guess this is a good place for that, they had a range in flavors from original orange juice to blueberry. Went for breakfast on Sunday morning, right when they open at 8 o'clock. Had to wait a few minutes for a whole party to be there before they seated us. Our server was very friendly, funny and attentive. Coffee and water were refilled frequently. We had steak and eggs, chorizo scramble, and Croque Madame. I've always wanted to try Cafe Mimosa and today was the day! Went for a beach trail walk down the street and we worked up an appetite. We were able to find a table out on the patio to enjoy the beautiful day as well as satisfy our appetites. They serve breakfast/brunch here and I wanted to try their traditional Eggs Benedict. Their sauce is different from the traditional hollandaise sauce since I believe they add paprika to the sauce. I ordered it with a side salad versus potatoes and it hit the spot. My only complaint is that one of my poached eggs was a little overcooked as it was not runny but it was still tasty. Service was amazing as well! I went there today with my daughter and friends and got the eggs Benedict that I have gotten many time before and it was delicious, this time I came in the the Benedict looked totally different very dark orange. It's totally fine if something changes but you should tell people. I went to ask my waiter and this other female employee said it's been like that since it opened. Which is not true she was basically gaslighting me and made me feel stupid but I just kept my mouth shut. Okay first this cafe is so cute and cozy !! The ambiance is very small shack on the corner in a small down but you're in San Clemente. Servers were so nice and down to earth. I had the eggs Benedict, the hollandaise is non traditional sauce, instead it is a smoked paprika hollandaise. To be extremely honest, I was not a fan. To me it tasted like red guajillo chilli and paprika seasoning. A little overwhelming to the pallet. The taste doesn't fit well with the dish. I told him I had communicated with his wife who indicated they did allow service dogs and would train their staff. He immediately said, "I remember you." I have the right to refuse service to anyone for any reason. Do you get that, for any reason!" Then he reminded me that in my exchange with Brittany, I had requested 4 free meals for the 4 of us who had been refused. I had asked for this to see if they truly mean what they said about their policy. He continued to state, "I can refuse service to anyone for any reason." Really, so can he refuse service because I am disabled with a service dog? Or because I am a minority or for whatever reason. Where is the line drawn!? Here's the facts. No, a business's generic "right to refuse service to anyone" does not allow them to deny service to someone solely because they have a service dog.Under Title III of the federal Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), private businesses that serve the public--including restaurants, hotels, retail stores, and theaters--are classified as "public accommodations". The ADA explicitly prohibits these businesses from discriminating against individuals with disabilities, which includes forcing them to leave or denying them entry due to their trained service animal. Federal civil rights laws strictly overrule a business's internal policies or standard "right to refuse service" signs. She texted the owner, Antoine Price, but he did not respond while we were there. When I asked for her name, she refused to provide it. Another employee then stated that the restaurant had been there for 19 years and that the owner had never allowed dogs under any circumstances. I explained that I had previously been there with my service dog, but rather than listen, he continued arguing and told me that could not have happened. We were forced to leave. I have reported this incident to the appropriate authorities. This was not a simple misunderstanding. It was a refusal to respect the rights and dignity of a differently abled customer. No one should have to defend their disability, explain why their service animal "looks legitimate," or be publicly challenged just to enter a restaurant. I cannot encourage anyone to spend their hard-earned money at an establishment that treats differently abled customers this way. All dishes were will prepared and flavorful. I asked for low salt on everything. I liked this level of seasoning. They have excellent sea salt and pepper grinder on the table. Steak frites with herb butter. Excellent flavor. Ordered medium rare. Probably medium. I recommend coming the steak with high sear medium rare. Creme Brulee french toast-great flavor. The custard really elevates the dish. Eat with bacon from frisee salad. Frisee salad with salmon. Great, runny poached eggs, crisp bacon. Salmon was tasty but would have cooked less to medium. Hard sear one side medium. Eggs bene with steak. Sauce flavorful. Eggs cooked properly runny. Again prefer more rare steak. Gravlax-salmon tasty. Prefer sauce on side. I ordered the traditional eggs Benedict. Traditional indicates to me, poached eggs over toasted bread with ham and hollandaise sauce. Here they served it with a smoked paprika sauce. I dislike smoked paprika. The sauce disguised the entire egg dish. I found it not at all to my liking. My husband didn't like it either. If I had been told when ordering it was not a traditional eggs Benedict but had a smoked paprika sauce I would not have ordered it. We said okay what about 7 people they said yes but there's another party of 7 arriving as well who was not there, but they don't accept reservations? So I'm confused on why they brought that up. Then another lady who came out of no where, didn't say hi or acknowledged us in any way, just said "whoever comes first gets the seat then it's a 45 minute wait" yikes lost our business real fast and we went to south of nicks instead. They allowed the 3 people at that table to simply sit there and would not ask them to move to any other table that was available. We left and when we drove by 10 Minutes later those people were still there. I guess they were more afraid of offending the 3 people than trying to serve us. The food we saw didn't look good anyway! Update... The owner responded to this review claiming we are rude because we asked a table to leave. We did not. We were given a false expectation that we would be seated in 45 minutes and waited an hour. There were empty tables and they never addressed us or apologized or made any attempt to accommodate us. They allowed 3 people to keep the large table when they were no longer customers. We asked staff to find us a table and they did not. We didn't ask anyone to leave but we expected management to "find a way" They chose not to and we left. Happy we did because this owner clearly does not deserve our business. We weren't notified 5 people would be any sort of problem in advance and that would have been really simple for them to do, right???? Another update! The owner saw my updated and changed their initial response within minutes to include a note about space limitations for larger parties! This makes my initial point.....they didn't tell us that. They let us stand there for an hour and 15 minutes. They didn't offer 2 adjoining tables. They didn't care about us. But they clearly are monitoring yelp for bad reviews! Well Mr owner, do better instead of making excuses and changing ten narrative of what actually happened. Your staff dropped the ball, own it. If I could give it less than one star, I would. I used to love this place, unfortunately I'm never coming back, and won't recommend it anymore. I came in with my tiny service dog, proper vest and licenses and was told she couldn't be in the restaurant. I didn't feel like making an issue of it. However, I hope they understand that's illegal. Reading all the reviews I personally highly approve of no dogs allowed. However no animals allowed does not include gigantic cockroaches! I understand it's a restaurant with an outside patio but still - having a huge roach crawling on the floor whilst wearing sandals is very disconcerting. When we mentioned it we received a lecture about various cockroaches rather than a simple apology which would have sufficed. And then when my friend joked about a free drink for her birthday the waiter came by with a glass of champagne, said "Happy Birthday " and proceeded to down it. Funny? Inappropriate and offensive. Loved the light dressing on the frisée. Husband's omelette was good. The green onions were chunky and could have been sliced finer. We had breakfast here for the first time on a Sunday morning. The wait was about 1/2 hour and they have a little seating area out front where you can sit and wait for your table. The ambience in the restaurant is really cute, you will feel like you have been transported to the south of France. Premises are clean and tidy and all of the staff are super-friendly. The food arrived plated beautifully. My brother was a chef and he always said "you can tell if the food was cooked with love", this definitely was!
