Came here for brunch on a Saturday. Ambiance is nice. Seated right away, which was positive. Water cups were old, scratched, and the size of a large shot glass (but some tables had larger glasses which is odd.) Service was slow as tables around us were served food before us even though they were seated afterwards and had larger parties. As I'm writing this review I had to ask my wife what we ordered as it was *that* unremarkable...Ordered Salmon Benedict and the Croissant breakfast sandwich. Neither plate had any flavor. The croissant was half the size of an average croissant and tasted stale. Potatoes were soggy and lukewarm. Their prices do not reflect quality received so hopefully they will implement changes to improve. *Our dining experience felt like two stars is warranted but I added a star since they are still in the first 6 months of opening. read more

The ambiance inside was a bit loud but was good outside( since no one like to eat outside) The food was okay... the hanger steak was okay, it wasn't season properly so cannot really taste it, the french onion soup was so, so... probably because it wasn't cooked as much ‍ I ask for a basket of bread without them letting me know that I had to pay for it... so had to pay $6. My wife and I came here for lunch. We love French bistro food and decided to give it a try. My wife ordered the Angel Hair pasta (fire-roasted tomato, garlic confit, basil, extra virgin olive oil), and I ordered the French Dip (roast beef on a baguette, au jus, spicy aioli, onions, house greens with a side of horseradish). Both dishes were very good and the ingredients were fresh and well prepared. The roast beef on my French Dip was very tender and flavorful. The portion sizes were adequate. Definitely not large. The ambiance was cozy with comfortable tables and chairs, with an abundance of natural light. I would describe our waiter as efficient but a little brusque and not all that friendly. Delicious solid French food at this chic restaurant. Having lunch here feels like being in Paris, I guess! It's bright and airy on a sunny day. The French Dip with salad was hearty. Bon Appetit Cafe is a nice addition to the Dana Point restaurant scene. The cafe took over the previous Maison location, retaining much of its charming decor, while brightening up the space and opening up the seating. It too has a French inspired menu, along with Mediterranean inspired dishes, including the Poulet Roulette, which appears to be an homage to the new owner Stephanos' Greek Heritage, with its spinach, feta and dill filling, along with a French beurre blanc sauce, is delicious. We heard about this super cute new brunch spot and drove all the way from Irvine. Def worth the drive. We had coffee, mushroom tartine, egg croissant, pancake soufflé , French toast, horchata drink, and an almond croissant. Everything was great. The ambiance was very Parisian. The staff were friendly. My date and I walked in and quickly noticed that it was very busy, we anticipated this since it was a Friday evening, however, what we didn't expect was the restaurant seemed crowded due to its relatively small size. However, the staff here were hustling and working hard, they even managed to sit us down within 5 minutes of walking in. We were seated in their small patio area which was cute and nicely decorated, keeping us away from the loud indoors. Our server was prompt and attentive, despite the chaos going inside the main restaurant. With that said, we ordered water, their elevated margarita, beer, humus, steak and salmon. The water was nothing fancy, nor cold, kind of tasted like faucet water. The elevated margarita was very strong and delicious, the beer was light and crisp, the humus was delicious which came with pita bread and what seemed to be chickpeas on top of the humus, the steak was a bit underwhelming, however, the salmon was rich and plentiful. Overall, we had a nice and enjoyable dinner despite it being so busy and crowded. A nice gesture was when the chef came out to greet us and thank us for dining in at their restaurant. 5 stars for their service. read more

I visited with a large group of friends and was quite pleased with this new restaurant. I ordered the Beef Bourbignon and found it to be quite delicious. It was cooked to perfection, my only beef with it was the lack of pearl onions. I ordered a Grand Marnier Souflet also, waited the requisite 30 minutes for it, and was quite pleased with it. It is hard to find French onion soup that doesn't taste "sweet". Everyone around here seems to make it that way. These people make it super differently but really good. It doesn't taste sweet, thank god, it has a great onion/beef taste and it is delicious. We also had the salad with berries and it was fresh and the dressing light but still flavorful. Bon Appetit Cafe is a new and welcome addition to the vibrant Dana Point dining scene. Decor is light, airy and calm, as is ambient noise. The restaurant is open for all meals and features pastries from Pandora Bakery. I went for dinner (party of four with a reservation) and were seated warmly and promptly. Our server (from a small town just outside of Rome) was engaging, attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. We started with goat cheese fondue (accompanied by slices of Granny Smith apples and caramelized shallots) and French onion soup, garnished with green onion, both quite satisfying. Three of us ordered penne with wild mushrooms, thyme and shallots in a sherry wine cream sauce, while our fourth diner enjoyed chicken with spinach, feta and dill in a citrus beurre Blanc sauce, accompanied by asparagus risotto. Both dishes were well presented and very flavorful. We finished by sharing in tiramisu and bread pudding, both made in house and delicious. Steve, the owner, stopped by and we had a nice discussion about his background and experiences, lending a personal touch to our experiences. Lastly, prices were quite reasonable and their corkage fee is $25, so if you bring your own wine, make it a good one. I look forward to coming back for other meals, especially breakfast. read more

Wow, what a gem! This place is great and just opened up about a few months ago. Went with the wife trying to find something different and were we surprised and happy! I was excited to try this place out when I heard it opened but I wouldn't bother going since they are operating on a "skeleton crew". There is only one person handling the entire bar, one person answering the phone, seating people, and making drinks all during peak hours. Management has clearly decided that saving on labor costs is more important than workplace functionality. I saw the teenager at the front being yelled at by customers because they were sat right away. While being yelled at there was no manger to step in and de-escalate the situation. The staff are exhausted, unsupported, and used as human shields for management's poor decisions. Unless you enjoy watching people have mentalbreak downs over a side of ketchup, spend your money else where. read more
